00:02Tell you what, this is hard. This sheep's definitely going to get bullied for a tackle.
00:07We've watched Reuben Owen grow up on his remote hill farm with his eight siblings.
00:12Do you want to do the honours, Sid? Buck her out.
00:14That was the old school way of doing it, Dad.
00:16That's where we used to start with the old sheers.
00:19Now he's building a business and a remarkable life in his Yorkshire home.
00:24We need a lot more in here, yeah. It's going faster.
00:26We're going. We're going as fast as we can.
00:28They're a great team, even on a job like this, where there's a bit of pressure to get it done.
00:32They're brilliant.
00:33We'll continue to follow him as he takes on new challenges with the support of friends and family.
00:38Do you want to give us a hand putting the wheel on?
00:40Right, I will do.
00:41I love working with Sid.
00:42He has always been helpful in his own little way.
00:45How do you get someone unstuck at the side of a pond?
00:47Brilliant, sonny. Just brilliant.
00:49And witness him at work.
00:51Get out of there.
00:52And play.
00:55As he leads a new generation of young people choosing to live and work in the idyllic Yorkshire Dales.
01:02No way I'd rather be.
01:03Oh, I love you too.
01:08My business has been going from strength to strength over the last four years.
01:12My brothers, Miles and Sid, are a real help, but they love farming too.
01:17Sonny and Kappa are a great crack to work with, and they're the muscle of the operation.
01:21Jess, my girlfriend, is from a farming family like me, and she can turn her hand to just about anything.
01:27And together, we're a great team.
01:35This week, it's autumn in the Dales.
01:38Oh, here we go. This is the victim.
01:41At a local farmer's quarry, Reuben plans to show the gang they can break up the rock without dynamite.
01:47We're just going to try and drill it, crack it, and then it'll be easier to pull off.
01:51Hopefully.
01:52We'll find out.
01:53I've never done this before.
01:54I think Reuben will be generally heartbroken if this doesn't work.
01:57But will they crack it?
01:59See what happens.
02:00Something's going to happen.
02:01Bang!
02:04At Jess's family farm, Reuben mucks in.
02:07So, I haven't really harnessed up a sheep before, I'll be honest.
02:11As mating season begins.
02:14Oh, now they're running.
02:17There's lamb number one.
02:19One down, 349 to go.
02:24The team's latest bit of kit proves a big surprise for Kappa.
02:29Oh, fuck!
02:32Ooh!
02:36I think we're going to have a cold night now, now we're going to have a heart attack.
02:40As bonfire night nears...
02:42Right.
02:42We're going to make a guy.
02:44...Sunny's quite attached to the trousers.
02:46We've got no movement whatsoever.
02:48I don't want to get...
02:50I don't want to get...
02:54Who went until I get my jeans pulled up?
02:58And can everyone pull together...
03:00...and make a fireworks night to remember.
03:05Oh!
03:08Beautiful!
03:09Yay!
03:11Happy bonfire night!
03:16Ruben's base of operation is in his childhood home of Swaledale, in the north of the Yorkshire Dales.
03:28Autumn drapes the magnificent rural landscape in hues of golden russet, trading late summer's warmth for a sharper chill.
03:40And for Ruben and his team, the new season brings fresh opportunities.
03:49Ruben, Jess and Sunny are at a nearby farm, where an overgrown tree line is damaging a fence.
03:57We're going to clear these trees away, so the farmer can put a new fence line in.
04:01Yeah, definitely.
04:02Then, in a couple of months, we're going to plant some more.
04:05That'll be good.
04:06Yeah.
04:07So, Sunny, you all going to be on throwing logs?
04:09That'll be, mate.
04:10Me and Jess are going to be chainsawing?
04:11Yep.
04:12The team are logging the trees for the farmer to use as firewood.
04:16But as it's the season of gunpowder, treason and plot, any spare branches will be used for a huge party
04:22they're planning.
04:23Have a little bonfire, won't we?
04:25Yeah, it's coming to that time of year.
04:26It is.
04:27Sunny, you'll have to supply the fireworks.
04:29I can manage that.
04:30Sounds good.
04:32Before they can start logging, one last tree needs to come down.
04:37I'll saw a little wedge in the front, cut a little bit through the back, and then once everyone's at
04:41a safe distance,
04:42we'll just give it a nice little pull and I'll pull it over without anyone being anywhere near it.
04:47That is the plan, boys and girls.
04:49Yeah, it's not too big either, is it?
04:50So, we'll rig it up.
04:52Do you want to drive the county again?
04:53Yep.
04:54And, yeah, we've got this tree down.
04:57We've done a little bit of tree filling.
04:59I am also taking our ticket in.
05:01We've got our safety gear on.
05:03Yeah.
05:04Yeah.
05:07Well, let's get set up.
05:10Tension on the 18mm safety cable will help control the tree's fall.
05:14And, as the tree is close to the brook, Ruben and his team need to make sure it comes down
05:19in the right direction.
05:22Just try and lift it up the tree a bit.
05:26Happy?
05:27Yeah.
05:28I'll keep tension on it.
05:29So, basically, I'll cut part way through it, and then it's the pull of the county that makes it fall
05:35over, right?
05:37From his vintage fleet, Ruben's picked the county, a tractor with more than enough muscle to handle the mighty tree.
05:45That's hooked on.
05:47Operation Tree Fell is in business.
05:53Fire up, darling.
06:00Go on, set off.
06:01Just want to see how fast it is.
06:05Are you happy at that?
06:06Yeah.
06:07Keep going.
06:08Ten attention up.
06:16That'll do.
06:18Are you happy?
06:19Yeah.
06:20Shout at me when you're ready.
06:24So, I'm going to go down, make the first wedge, which will direct it, and then we'll pull it the
06:28last little bit.
06:29And timber.
06:30And big timber.
06:39So, we'll pull it, and see if we've sawed enough.
06:44Yeah.
06:45If it won't go, I'll saw a little bit more.
06:47Right.
06:49Ready?
06:50Ready?
06:50Yeah.
06:55The decades-old tractor has made easy work of that.
06:59Perfect, darling.
07:01Do you want to pull it off the fence now?
07:15Well done.
07:16Well done.
07:17Perfect, love.
07:18For Jess, it's more than just a day's work.
07:21She's as fond of these old machines as Reuben is.
07:25Well done, darling.
07:26That went well, didn't it?
07:27It did.
07:28It's a good way to do it.
07:29I actually really like that tractor.
07:30It's lovely to drive, isn't it?
07:32Would you say that's your favourite out of my collection?
07:35Probably, yeah.
07:35It's got lovely gears.
07:36I think the thing I like the most is when Jess likes them as well.
07:39Yeah.
07:40Then you know you're allowed to keep them.
07:41I think, yeah, because that county is now safe, that tractor.
07:46So, the next thing is we're going to sew it up.
08:08Well, I think I've just about got all the logs out there, Sonny, and I think the rest
08:11are just sticks.
08:13Yeah, definitely.
08:13For a bonfire.
08:16And, of course, the team makes sure to collect their well-earned bonus.
08:20Yeah.
08:20Put them in the trailer and take them back home.
08:23Yeah, definitely.
08:24There's just some final debris to clear before the trio can call it a day.
08:31We'll get these last logs round up and then that's the job done.
08:34Yeah.
08:38Ruben will be back in a few weeks to replace the fence, but for now, that's a job well
08:43done.
08:47I've very much enjoyed working with you guys.
08:49Yeah, it's been good fun, hasn't it?
08:51I've really enjoyed my day.
08:52Yeah.
08:52Well, bye.
08:54It's a nice part of the country, isn't it, to work in?
08:57It is, definitely, yeah.
08:58No, I'd rather be.
09:01Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
09:19Looming large on Ruben's list of autumn work is a job digging out rock from a Cumbrian farmer's
09:24quarry.
09:25And for this, Ruben needs specialist equipment.
09:33So, the next morning, the lads have met up with Jess's dad Dave in his yard and Ruben's
09:39in his element.
09:40Big day.
09:42New ties in the workplace.
09:43Great.
09:43I'm excited to use them.
09:45We've got new drills.
09:46And in true Ruben's style, why buy new when you can lovingly recycle relics from a bygone
09:52era?
09:53That one has come out of a coal mine that hasn't been used ever.
09:57Ever.
09:58Ever.
09:58Well, the coal mine closed in 1987.
10:03Yeah.
10:03This one, I don't know.
10:06Ruben's hoping these heavy-duty pneumatic drills will help deal with a particularly hard
10:11seam of rock at the quarry.
10:13We've been pecking away at it.
10:15It is sort of coming out, but it's so hard, I thought, why don't we try and break it off?
10:21Because if we could put a few cracks in it, we could rip it out with the digger.
10:25Yeah.
10:25I've always wanted to try and use that expanding grout.
10:28So we're going to drill down into it with these relics, put expanding grout in it, and
10:33hopefully, given a bit of time, it should pop the whole lump of stone off.
10:37That would be a good idea, to be honest.
10:38It's just interesting to see how we go.
10:40And I've always been interested in, like, mining and that sort of old stuff.
10:43Yeah, it's cool, isn't it?
10:44What are we actually going to be doing with it?
10:46Crushing it, or...?
10:47So, it depends how it comes out, really.
10:49The majority of it will be getting crushed.
10:51Right.
10:52Just to go on the farm tracks for the customer.
10:54But we are looking for some big square stones from round here to do a job making seats in a
11:00bit of a park local to Kirby Stephen.
11:02Right.
11:03It'll be a good learning curve, won't it?
11:05It will.
11:05Stook between a rock and a hard place.
11:07Mmm.
11:09It's been a while since these vintage rock drills have been used, so they'll need to
11:13be thoroughly tested.
11:14We're just waiting for Kappa, as always, to turn up with an air compressor.
11:18Have a trial run.
11:19And we'll have a sea when we get them running here.
11:21Once in a lifetime chance to actually use something like this, innit?
11:24Yeah.
11:24And if we get good at it, we might end up doing it more.
11:26And then we'll have some wanted digger.
11:28So, if it doesn't work, we'll get the fireworks off sunny.
11:32Yeah, fireworks off sunny.
11:34Fire in the hole.
11:35Yeah.
11:35I don't know.
11:37Before Dave has any more explosive ideas...
11:40Do you hear that racket?
11:42I don't.
11:42Someone bringing a lot of hot air.
11:44Kappa makes his appearance, squeakily.
11:49It doesn't look very big.
11:51We have air.
11:52You have brought the air.
11:53I have brought all the air.
11:55Right.
11:55Right.
11:56This is all the bits.
11:58So, we bought this drill and pipe and kit and all this ready to go and air kit.
12:02I've just been 80 mile round trip for it.
12:05So, I hope it works.
12:07I really do hope it works.
12:10With kit this old, there are no guarantees.
12:12I am slightly nervous, I'll be honest.
12:16Right.
12:17Let's rip.
12:17Right.
12:18Turn the compressor on.
12:19The compressor pumps pressurised air to the drill, giving it the power to break rock.
12:24Ready?
12:25Yeah.
12:30Yeah, boy.
12:32Yeah, dog.
12:33We have flow.
12:35So far, so good.
12:41Heyo.
12:44I think we might be here a while.
12:49But the compressed air doesn't seem to be powering the drill.
12:53Try it in.
12:54It hasn't got enough air.
12:56Do you want a bit of oil put in, trying to oil everything up?
13:00We're all right.
13:06I jumped out of his shit.
13:08What did you do?
13:10Well, it works.
13:11A bit.
13:12I think it's maybe stuck.
13:16I don't quite know what to think of this situation.
13:20It's pecking, but it's not spinny-spinny.
13:22It should do as a drill.
13:24The first drill switches on, but it's nowhere near as powerful as it should be.
13:28And that's a real head-scratcher.
13:31Well, let's try and get the other one going now.
13:32Yeah.
13:33Get it on the workbench.
13:34The second drill is seized up, so needs to be dismantled for a good clean.
13:39You know, it's a good job we didn't go straight to the quarry with these.
13:42It is, isn't it?
13:43I think we've been laughed at.
13:44See if that'll pull out.
13:45What?
13:46I'm trying.
13:48You got it now.
13:49Is it going?
13:50Yeah.
13:51There you go.
13:54Right, that's out.
13:57So them little fellas there, they'll have to move, won't they?
14:02It looks like it's spent its life in a pond.
14:05It's got some rust on it.
14:06It's a bit mucky, isn't it?
14:07Yeah.
14:08It's just rust, isn't it?
14:09Yeah.
14:10It hasn't been used for a long time and not all the little tabs that should move.
14:14I see it's solid, so nothing's moving.
14:17It looks in good nick though, everything inside it.
14:19Hopefully, a clean-out will solve the problem.
14:25Right, we're ready to go.
14:26Will it work, boys?
14:40In Dave's yard at Brough Castle, Ruben's new rock drills are causing problems.
14:46Why do I have to hold this?
14:47And an entire quarry job depends on getting them up to full power.
14:51I did have hope, but it's not looking that good at this moment in time.
14:57But mechanically-minded Kappa has spotted something.
15:00Hey, Ruben, I think I've found the problem.
15:04What?
15:05Turn the compressor up.
15:08What's up?
15:08What does that thing need to power?
15:10PSI?
15:11120.
15:12Well, the most we're getting is 35.
15:15There's the problem.
15:17There's 160 on gauge.
15:19Yes!
15:20I was having it flat out though.
15:22That should have more flow than that, shouldn't it?
15:26With the air pressure far less than it should be, the compressor is the confirmed spanner in the works.
15:31Right, so we need to source a bigger compressor and then we're all good to go.
15:36On that note, let's have a tidy up.
15:44Late autumn at Brough Castle means breeding time for the rams, also known as tups.
15:50So at first light, Dave's ready to crack on.
15:53And as he helped Ruben with the drills, it's now Ruben's turn to muck in.
15:59Right, so this morning we're letting the tups out.
16:01Yeah.
16:03Well, what we do is we always put a couple of tups out together just to be sure that they're
16:07in lamb, don't we?
16:09And there's a colourful way for Dave and Jess to have a clear countdown to lambing time.
16:14We have harnesses to put on.
16:16Yeah.
16:16We've got the yellow crayon on because that's the first one for the first cycle, isn't it?
16:20Yeah.
16:20After 21 days you change colour, put a darker colour on.
16:23By changing the colour of the crayon on the tups every three weeks, Dave and Jess can tell exactly when
16:29the ewes mated and when their lambs are due.
16:33This is the hardest bit, putting the harnesses on, because they've got to hold them still.
16:38The tups have had a good rest this summer.
16:41They're looking in good condition, so they should be really fertile.
16:44And yeah, they've got to go to work.
16:45They've got a job to do and let them get on with it.
16:49Oh well, shall we get these harnesses put on then and let them out?
16:51Yeah, let's get on.
16:53So I haven't really harnessed up a sheep before, I'll be honest.
16:56He may be a shepherd's son raised among thousands of sheep, but this is a first.
17:01One needs to go straight over and one needs to cross over.
17:04Have you guys grown since last year?
17:08They definitely have, meaning the old harnesses need a refit, turning a simple job into a bit of a puzzle.
17:16Now that one, does that cross over?
17:19Yeah.
17:19One goes straight over his bag, the other two cross over.
17:22Although veteran farmer Dave has hardly broken a sweat.
17:25Mine's done.
17:27Mine's ready to go, my boy.
17:29Clip it on, Jess, and then tighten them up one at a time.
17:31Right.
17:32Happy?
17:33Oh yeah, it's alright, actually.
17:35Right, who's next?
17:36Now they've got the hang of it, there's no stopping them.
17:40That's what it looks like.
17:42Yeah, that's perfect.
17:43It's not too tight, is it?
17:45Right, you're done.
17:46Go on.
17:47Go on.
17:48This is the big boy.
17:52Hey, watch out Jess, you're in his firing line there.
17:56He's got sass.
17:58So I'll let these out, Jess.
18:00Bring them four in.
18:07Come wait here little guy.
18:09This is a nice boy, aren't you?
18:11With the last of the eight tups harnessed up to their yellow crayons...
18:16Come on.
18:17...its time to load and deliver them to the waiting ewes.
18:35come on
18:36with reuben due at the quarry jess and dave will take it from here right i'm gonna go check on
18:41sunny and kappa thank you for helping put them on no problem see you guys later in a bit bye
18:53there are four flocks to cover ranging from 30 to 150 ewes each and dave and jess are starting
19:00at the upper field with all their rams to choose from right which two do you want to let out
19:05of
19:06here dad a couple of strongens because we're a bit uh a bit colder up here in it him there
19:11yeah
19:12it's a big one and him at the back this higher rougher ground is exposed to the harshest weather
19:17so only the biggest tops have the stamina to cover the ewes right this one jess yeah that's a good
19:23one
19:23let him go right watch again no one else what about that one yeah you ready yeah i'm ready
19:30right let him go all right that's it that'll do look at him stood there she's showing off now he's
19:37a beast
19:44so far the ewes are being elusive go on boys
19:50oh there we are oh there what's this job
19:52oh now they're running
20:00there's lamb number one one down 349 to go
20:08gosh we've got to be lambing fairly quick at this rate dad yeah
20:13oh shall we get the rest of the boys out yeah before they escape look they're all looking out
20:17of the trailer a bit of jealousy going on
20:25while dave and jess head off to release the final tops
20:31ruben sunny and kappa have arrived at the quarry oh here we go sunny this is the uh
20:38the victim ruben wants to show them the seam of dense blue stone their drills need to conquer
20:46this is the hardest layer of stone in the quarry underneath isn't too bad but this top strip is
20:52incredible so if we can drill through it yeah and make a dent and make a dent jess is bringing
20:58the
20:58bigger compressor so hopefully that'll make our drills work much easier look at the thickness of
21:03the band rock it's a daunting task so everything hinges on the bigger compressor delivering
21:15here she is having finished releasing the tops jess has picked up a hopefully fully functioning
21:21compressor to unleash full drill power how are you doing i've got it
21:29they'll need all the oomph they can get to make a dent in that seam of blue stone
21:33big and on first the team have two jobs to tackle quarrying the large block for seating
21:39and crushing smaller pieces into aggregate for the farmer's paths so far we've quarried all the way up
21:45to here but this is really really hard we're just going to try and drill it crack it and then
21:50it'd be
21:51easier to pull off hopefully we'll find out i've never done this before you ready good
22:25i'm scared before things set off right
22:32the new compressor ought to do the trick once kappa's pulse settles
22:48at a local farmer's quarry where cumbria borders the dales reuben and his team are ready to excavate
22:55the seam of incredibly hard bluestone let's um get some safety stuff on yeah uh work out where we
23:02want our holes and set away drilling to shear off one clean block the holes for the expanding grout
23:10must be plotted carefully right there
23:17little star what should i do this time just something normal and then we're actually not
23:24that's precision drill hole planning with a side of artistic flair
23:35this is 30. what do you think you draw a pig that's a cow that's a pig why is it
23:41it's got a snout
23:43please just appreciate my cow sonny i'm trying my best do we show you how to draw a cow drawing
23:49competition
23:54what's it what's a cow yeah i need to put a tail so you've got a body
24:04can't say mine looks like a pig that looks more like a pig that looks like a pig
24:14despite growing up surrounded by cattle neither of them seem to understand what a cow looks like
24:19that's a five-legged sausage that's artwork that
24:27with the drill holes imaginatively marked thoughts turn to the gang's bonfire night plans
24:33so i hear you've been there shopping for some fireworks sonny for the bonfire
24:37yeah i went and picked a few up there's quite a lot how many have you got hundreds
24:44how are we gonna be on all night go we can go home they're all massive rockets
24:48yeah and then hopefully this will go for the bang as well i hope so i think ruben will be
24:54generally heartbroken if this doesn't work
25:02right there's a toffee oh that looks lovely
25:05yeah over at brough castle preparations for tomorrow night's celebrations have begun in earnest
25:11right who wants to do the toffee ones then can i have some apples do you think these are your
25:17apples
25:18so these ones are for um doing the chocolate making these seasonal sweet treats is a family tradition
25:25with nana diane mum sarah and jesse's sisters eva and amelia getting stuck in to help
25:32i'm dipping them all the way in i'm going for it amelia just let it roll roll it round and
25:37round
25:37so the toffee runs around it like that yeah and there's more than just toffee apples on the menu
25:44hot dogs we're having and onions oh lovely and i've got the fudge all done and cinder toffee oh lovely
25:51yeah so it's all the traditions that we've always done every year so there's no fear of anyone going
25:58hungry then are you looking forward to the fireworks yeah well they're quite loud aren't they but yeah
26:04they're nice to watch yeah i like them loud louder the better than i do think how do you think
26:10reuben and
26:10sunny will do letting the fireworks off in the castle then it's probably just as well it's a ruin
26:15beforehand yeah i think they'll do a good job yeah yeah i'm looking forward to it yeah yeah well when
26:24i was little i can remember a massive big bonfire being organized and i think they'd spent thousands
26:30of pounds in those days on fireworks for this display yeah well the spark of the first one got in
26:36the box and the whole lot went off together yeah yeah it was a tremendous noise it was absolutely
26:45beautiful hopefully reuben and sunny won't adopt the same tactic
26:54right then everyone how's it looking up there sonny was the one with the tape measure i was marking
26:59like this like this here with my cow oh right and then this is for you reuben oh i love
27:06you too
27:13on that note and with only an hour of daylight left they need to get drilling
27:24ruben's restored vintage drills are working a treat i can't believe how good it is
27:34powered by the new compressor that bluestone may as well be butter
27:50and as the sun sets on the quarry that's it all being it's gonna be dark soon the gang need
27:57all the
27:58light they can get because reuben is determined to finish phase one of the job by nightfall
28:11so we're getting on quite well i don't think many people will be out this time of night drilling a
28:15hole in the dark but i think they're doing the last hole now and then we'll finish
28:27well that went well we're all drilled up so i'm guessing tomorrow we're just going to put the
28:31expanding grow in yeah tomorrow put the expanding stuff in bonfire night as well yeah tomorrow so
28:37there'll be plenty of explosions going on if this doesn't go down so uh let's gather up our bits
28:43and uh go yum till tomorrow that'll do
28:51in the brough castle kitchen there are more chocolate and toffee apples than you can shake
28:55a sparkler at does that look okay would you eat that oh yeah
29:04and while most of the family are making the treats as delicious as possible nine-year-old eva has other
29:10ideas reuben likes onions isn't he are you gonna pull a joke on him he parked me he said i'm
29:19gonna
29:19put you in a bit right so you're gonna pull a plank on him and do an onion for him
29:22as a toffee apple
29:23it's gonna be lovely well i think this is the first i've never ever seen a chocolate covered onion
29:31ever no he's gonna get a real surprise isn't he there sprinkle a sprinkle actually it doesn't look
29:39any different to the others does it no poor reuben well that'll be a new memory for his bonfire night
29:47won't it and he's gonna get a real shock isn't it and he bites into that oh eva you're cruel
29:56now that'll teach him not to throw me in the bin
30:10so once we mix this we've only got five minutes to get it in the hole early the next morning
30:16it's
30:16time for phase two of reuben's quarrying experiment so i think we'll mix two bags first and see how far
30:24that gets us if the expanding grout does its job and pops the bluestone clean off it'll save a huge
30:30amount of time and hard labor i've always wanted to try this because we only quarry this now and again
30:37for the farmer there's no point getting a huge dig here so um we'll just mind you what we got
30:41and
30:42hopefully be able to pop this rock face off right so can you guys go up there take the caps
30:49off the
30:49holes and make sure there's no dust or stone or rubbish that'll fall in yeah and we'll mix first
30:54lot it's all right five minutes is a long time yeah they have to work quickly once the grout's mixed
31:04there's just five minutes before it starts to set quite impressed seeing the holes in daylight now
31:10like it's just do a tidy job like it yeah here we go bucket number one now it's a race
31:19against the
31:20clock are we ready yeah right here we go hole number one how much we're supposed to put in to
31:30the top
31:31aren't you to the top look as the grout expands in each two meter deep hole it'll generate over 800
31:39kilos
31:39of pressure per square centimeter hopefully enough force to split the rock without explosives
31:48even though the chemical cracking agent starts to work in a few hours
31:51splitting tough rock like this could take several days and even then there are no guarantees
31:58it's already changing isn't it yeah it's gone to rubber
32:04if this works well we'll come back drill the whole rest of it and pop it all out yeah yeah
32:12hopefully it goes off with a bank since there'll be a bit of a racket when it goes you wouldn't
32:15you
32:15thought it goes off tonight at eight o'clock we'll be watching our fireworks won't we yeah explosions all
32:20around yeah i'm really confident you know we've done a really good job of drilling the drill holes are
32:26perfect we mixed it up right and it's in the holes i have full confidence it'll work
32:33see what happens something's gonna happen
32:53right so here we are we drilled the holes put the grout in and we'll see whether it's done anything
32:59bright and early the next morning reuben and jess are heading back to the quarry to see if the expanding
33:04ground has cracked the rock yeah fingers crossed fingers crossed it has worked
33:12it's the moment of truth there's some bigger cracks in it i think yeah i think that one there's new
33:18isn't it it hasn't really just disappeared into little bits has it no it's not done what we hoped
33:23has it yet no not yet should we have a look at the tops yeah let's wander up
33:35well it has sort of worked look at them cracks that one there
33:40in my hole yeah because that's where the hole is isn't it there's another one there so i think
33:50we're not far off mastering this technique but it's great i bet that'll peel straight off with the dig
33:56up so it has worked then hasn't it yeah it has actually worked i didn't think it had worked when
34:00i got here so the technique shows a glimmer of promise what we need to do i think we need
34:06to come
34:07and do another section and another section yeah until the whole thing's got loads of little cracks
34:13in now when i get the ripper in there it'll just pull straight out yeah it'll save a lot of
34:18time
34:18won't it the closer holes at the top have worked best the biggest crack so i think we measure that
34:22distance and stick to that distance yeah but knowing you if you you mark out it'll all pop and then
34:28there'll be a cow shaped rock up here at the bottom yeah well it's worked it's cracked through the top
34:37so
34:37the signs are good i mean the next thing is to get a digger here with a rock spike and
34:42see if we can
34:42pull the lump off which i think it'll peel straight off but i think there's a lot of holes to
34:47drop a lot of holes to drop
34:51cracking job cracking job i like that go on let's get back down all right
35:04over at brough castle bonfire night preparations are underway right so i'm going to make the guy
35:13i reckon i'm going to make it that good of me won't want to burn it so can someone hold
35:16it there
35:17whilst i get the screw machine do you want to hole in the jeans hang on you're all twisted hang
35:20on
35:21who's holding the wood it seems to be a complicated five-person job let go your hand here in
35:27it wants pulling across i've got it here if you let go and pull the sleeve out keep going keep
35:31going
35:31keep going right up to i think maybe yeah he's a tall guy tall handsome and surprisingly well dressed
35:40dad's best boiler suit he does know we're burning his clothes don't think mum's informed of that oh
35:48right are you ready if we hold it can you shove it all in
35:52try grab a grab a big arm full of hair so write down the arms if you can a little
35:59bits at a time
36:00yeah maybe all right stick with that oh did you just break it
36:04you can have a screw machine please his head's loose if you squeamish look away don't look
36:15it's surgery completed nearly is lovely stuff look at that
36:21his head might be reattached but he's still a little blue in the face
36:27we'll just put his trousers on the fair fancy them jeans have you had a look at them fashionable
36:32when dad was young i think look at the buttons on him dave will have no clothes left at this

36:38dad was a cool dude wasn't he he'll flip around my waist back in my day back in shore couldn't
36:44they
36:46they've got no flex you've got no movement whatsoever
36:53i'll still take you down i'll still i don't want to get
37:01i don't want to get my jeans pulled off
37:09while sunny wrestles dave's jeans back off the guy is starting to take shape we're getting there
37:15is aren't we what do you think you look in the business right yeah
37:24a brother from another lover are we gonna bother with the jeans you think we'll have a go

38:31logging job it's ready in no time well it's nice big fire isn't it yeah well done darling so gonna
38:38grab
38:38the guy and then once the guy's on we can tell your family to come yeah here we go this

44:16We need to be very careful.
44:17Sadly, this tree has landed on some of these graves.
44:21Reuben gets a new toy.
44:23Do you like your bulldozer?
44:24Brilliant. It's really fast at levelling.
44:27And it's saved by the bell
44:30when Brough's quaint village church needs an urgent repair.
44:34But will the young couple's quick fix ring true?
44:38Let's hope it's in the right place.
44:40If it's not in the right place, it won't go on.
