00:00...defensively for Tampa Bay.
00:02Darryl Smith is a very reliable linebacker who can rush off the edge and also cover in the secondary.
00:22Counting down toward the midway point in quarter one.
00:31On second down, here's Ryan.
00:35Sudden with a grab over the middle and taking it across midfield and inside the 45.
00:41One thing I can say pretty safely, that route is not called if you don't have a guy who can
00:46throw the ball and put some mustard on it.
00:48Because if you don't lollipop it in the middle of the field, bad things usually happen.
00:53It takes a strong-armed guy who can rifle it in there and they were able to successfully complete that
00:57one.
00:57Offense comes to the line now, first and 10.
01:09It's a give to Freeman running right.
01:11And this one goes nowhere.
01:13Losing yardage on the play back into 46.
01:17That's going to go as a loss of two and it'll be second down.
01:21All right, partner.
01:21Despite my eating habits, I'm not big enough to play offensive tackle, nor am I quick enough.
01:26But with the defensive ends nowadays and their speed, those guys have to be able to punch and dance.
01:31And it's a tough, tough job to contain them.
01:49On second down, Ryan throwing middle, but it's incomplete.
02:12And the Bucs with an extra defender in the secondary now on third down.
02:18They're on the play fake to Coleman.
02:20Now Ryan finding time.
02:23And this is going to be incomplete.
02:27And this is going to be incomplete.
02:30Holding offense.
02:36And penalty is declined.
02:54So on fourth down, the Falcons will call on Matt Boscher to putt it away.
03:07And this will depend on the spot as it sails out of bounds.
03:10And they'll say it's sailed out at the 10-yard line.
03:34And the Buccaneers getting ready to go as they take the field.
03:38Last time out, they had that long 50-plus-yard field goal that they missed.
03:43And I'm sure on their sideline, they're thinking to themselves,
03:45OK, do we still want to try one if we're in that position again?
03:49And I would dare say that the answer would be yes.
03:51They're going to have a lot of confidence in their kicker.
03:53But just to be on the safe side, I'm sure they told their offensive guys,
03:56can we get a little bit closer this time?
03:58Yeah, get a little closer.
03:58Yeah.
03:58Well, you know, I'd rather get in the end zone first and foremost.
04:01But if all else fails, less of a field goal attempt for him.
04:07So they complete the pass, and now they face a second down.
04:18They'll run it now out of the gun.
04:21And he'll get this up to the 30-yard line.
04:24And a nice carry there of 15 yards.
04:28Really good, solid run right there.
04:30And they did it from a four-wide receiver set.
04:32And if you're an offensive coordinator, they used to tell people,
04:35hey, we're going to throw the football.
04:36Now they use four receivers on the field to spread things out,
04:39give them more running lanes and more options.
04:42And also, it usually takes the bigger defenders off the field,
04:46makes the defense lighter and easier to run against.
04:55Again, it's Martin.
04:57And he is going to lose yardage here.
04:59It's a loss of two there, bringing out second down.
05:04Well, that run wasn't very successful.
05:06They did have a big one on the previous play.
05:08So you get the sense that the offense is probing around,
05:11trying to find the ones that are going to work.
05:13And when they find them, they'll keep coming back to them.
05:34Now Jameis on second down.
05:37Surveying the field.
05:39Left side complete, Safarian Jenkins.
05:42Eight yards on the completion, but now they face third down.
05:46All right, I'm doing my rudimentary math here.
05:48That's his third catch here in the first quarter.
05:50I don't know if it's just game plan, or he's just finding his way open.
05:53Maybe a little of both.
05:59So here we go, a third down after the second down pass completion.
06:06One receiver to the left is Evans.
06:09Now some movement before the snap.
06:12And we'll hear from our referee for the first time this afternoon.
06:22Still third down.
06:48Winston from the gun on third down.
06:51He's got time.
06:53He's going to leave this for his running back.
06:55It's complete.
06:56He lost two, and it brings up fourth.
07:01Really good defensive effort.
07:02They were all over that.
07:03A little swing pass out to the right side before loss yardage.
07:06Terrific read, better execution, and done with a lot of enthusiasm, wasn't it?
07:11Absolutely.
07:11They saw it all the way, ran to the football, and caused a nice play for loss yardage.
07:30This is taken at the 18.
07:32Oh, a heck of a move.
07:33Man.
07:34A good return there.
07:3517 yards.
07:36And the offense will come back onto the field with a first and 10.
07:58Atlanta now coming out on the field.
08:01And last time out, they had to punt the football away.
08:03Anything positive possibly to take from that?
08:06There always is when you're punting the football away.
08:09It doesn't sound like it because you're giving it up.
08:11But you've avoided a mistake.
08:13At least you didn't turn it over.
08:14You didn't turn it over.
08:15Right?
08:16You're giving your defense a chance because you're punting the ball away, and they're set
08:21to go on the field as opposed to sudden change after a turnover.
08:25Wow.
08:25Now we're going to go out there and stop people.
08:27So, yeah, there's always something positive to gain from it.
08:29And there they went crossing route against the zone defense.
08:33What do you think of that?
08:34It takes real coordination between the passer and the receiver because you've got to read
08:39those zones and where the open spots are and be on the same page with the guy throwing
08:44the football.
08:45Because sometimes you're throwing it in front of the zone.
08:48Sometimes you're throwing it between the zones.
08:50Sometimes the receiver's going to just kind of find a spot in what we call sit down and
08:54present himself to the quarterback and throw it there.
08:56It's a tough read.
08:57But when they're in sync, it's really effective.
09:03This is Freeman on first and 10.
09:05And little room to maneuver there.
09:07He gets it down to about the 39.
09:09Just a yard on the first down carry.
09:11So it's second and nine.
09:13So many times we look at a short run and we praise the offense for trying to set the
09:16tempo and establish things.
09:19But the defensive guys, hey, they just won the battle there.
09:22It wasn't a big run giving up.
09:23They don't always have to absorb the body blow.
09:25Sometimes they dish them out themselves.
09:31Now Ryan on second down.
09:33Connects with Sanu right side.
09:36And he's going to get this inside the 30.
09:39They give him 13 yards there on the play and a fresh set of downs.
09:43That was a nice completion on an out route.
09:46And those types of plays are the result of arm strength by the quarterback and timing by
09:51the receiver.
09:56So the offense has it first and 10.
10:06Freeman.
10:08And he's going to take this one down to about the 23-yard line.
10:12Give him three on first down.
10:14It'll set up a second and seven.
10:16I think we know by now that every run is not going to be broken and get all the way
10:20to
10:21the end zone.
10:21But these short ones still have their value.
10:23You can still set up your play action and throw the football.
10:26You control the clock because you have the ball and they don't.
10:29And often the physicality sets the tempo for the game.
10:36They come out here in the eye.
10:41Freeman again.
10:43And he'll bring him down at the 13-yard line.
10:46Nine yards on the pick up there and it keeps the drive alive.
10:50There's a good, nice, crisp run for a first down.
10:53I wonder if the defense might have been loosened up a little bit.
10:56Maybe anticipating a pass instead of the run that they got.
11:05So they're operating in the red zone.
11:07There's a good, nice, nice, nice.
11:12Put it, put it, put it, put it, put it, put it.
11:17Here's Coleman.
11:18Trying to find a lane, but instead he'll get back to the line of scrimmage.
11:22And no more.
11:23That's going to go as a loss of a yard and it'll be second down.
11:27Let's just go ahead and get back to that play with his eyes.
11:30Because he's got to read his keys.
11:32Runner pass right off the top.
11:34You're probably going to read an offensive lineman to see if he...
