00:01Strong left! Strong left! Strong left!
00:06Hey, go down!
00:07Ready?
00:10Brees now on first down.
00:12It's complete! Flaner, right side!
00:15A gain of six there on first.
00:20When you're playing a quarterback with some experience and some moxie,
00:23you enter the danger zone when you decide to blitz him
00:26because if he's able to diagnose as he did on that play,
00:29he can hurt you downfield.
00:31He reads defenses so well, doesn't he?
00:33He really does, and the best part about that play for him,
00:35I don't think that was his primary target.
00:37I don't think so either.
00:38I think he had the read, figured out where the blitz was coming from,
00:41and went to a secondary target for a really nice game.
00:45Brees now. They go screen. This is Ingram.
00:51He goes for 18 there as the drive will continue.
00:58They ran that one well, and not only did they pick up a nice chunk of yardage on the screen,
01:02they sent a message to the defense.
01:04Rush the pass all you want, but you better be careful.
01:07We can hit you going back the other direction.
01:21Offense comes to the line now, first and 10.
01:27They come out here in the eye.
01:31Brees gives it up to Ingram, and his rough afternoon continues.
01:36He's going nowhere again.
01:38Just a yard on the pick up there, and it'll bring up a second and nine.
01:42That was a really nice play to be able to stack that one up.
01:44When they get back in the huddle, he's got to tell his guys up front, great job.
01:48They kept people off of him, allowed him to run free, and make the hit on the runner.
01:53Filled the gap nicely, kept them to just a one-yard gain.
02:02See if they stay on the ground for a second down.
02:08Another pistol look here.
02:12A play fake to Ingram.
02:14Now it's Brees.
02:15Backing up.
02:17And his throw is incomplete.
02:19He couldn't get the hook up there that time with Thomas at its third down.
02:24A good number of coaches at any time they call an in route are really worried about the play
02:28because there's so much traffic ordinarily that the ball has to get through to get to the receiver.
02:33And on that play, it was batted down.
02:41Incomplete pass on second down.
02:42Let's see what the offense draws up here on third.
02:50Now Brees on third down.
02:52He's got time.
02:55And this is going to be incomplete.
02:58Brandon Cooks, the receiver he was going after.
03:01And fourth down, coming up.
03:11Now Kai Forbath to try the field goal for New Orleans.
03:14From the right hash.
03:16This from 45 yards away.
03:22And Forbath will put this one through.
03:24And they take the lead here now at 10-7.
03:28So a good kick there and they wrap up the drive by putting three on the board.
03:32And you know, let's face it.
03:33You're not always going to come away with six.
03:35Defense in the NFL are just too good.
03:37But you've got to come away with something.
03:39And there, they get three.
04:06And there, they get three.
04:07Moorstead, the punter, out to kick it off.
04:13Field it about a yard deep.
04:17And he'll be brought down at the 23.
04:20Make it the 24 yard line.
04:26The Saints defense getting ready here, heading back onto the field.
04:30They got the stop last time that resulted in a punt.
04:32And then it resulted in three for their offense.
04:35And this is one time where the defense won't get credit for creating points.
04:38But that's exactly what they did.
04:40All right?
04:41Forced them into a punt.
04:42Turned it over to their offense.
04:44And guess what?
04:45Points went on the board.
04:46Points went on the board.
04:47Three of them.
04:47Now they'll be looking for another stop.
05:05They'll run it now.
05:06Out of the gun.
05:07And he'll get this one up to the 26.
05:10Give him a couple on the carry there.
05:12Second and eight.
05:14Partner, you know I love to point out when teams break tendency
05:16and do something a little bit different from the norm.
05:18But when you run the ball in the first play of the drive,
05:21that's not a tendency breaker at all.
05:22That's just trying to establish yourself as you move forward.
05:25Second down following the run.
05:32On second down, Ryan.
05:36And seeing nowhere to throw.
05:38He chucks this one away from harm.
05:40Incomplete.
05:41Now it's third down.
05:42It's a tried and true formula.
05:44And I don't think it'll change for as long as we play football.
05:47If someone's trying to throw the ball and you can put pressure on them
05:50and make it tough, that's only going to help your defense.
05:53Yeah, he's since being hurried.
05:55He got rid of it before taking the hit, but incomplete.
05:58A nickel back at it defensively as they look to stop this third and eight.
06:04On third down, Ryan.
06:07And he couldn't hang on to it through the contact.
06:11Incomplete.
06:12And he's certainly not a guy that drops that football very often.
06:16Indeed, because that's a bit of a surprise.
06:18I know he's in the middle of some traffic and people, bodies all around him.
06:22But he usually has the focus to haul that one in.
06:24Here's Matt Bosher now.
06:26He's been terrific so far.
06:34And he deserves a bronze leg as he gets this one away.
06:38Murphy now to return.
06:4112 yards on the return that time.
06:44And the Saints will take over with a first down and 10.
06:48Back out out of the field now comes the New Orleans offense.
06:51And they're not going to play this conservative, I don't think.
06:53They had a field goal last time and they're up.
06:55But they're looking to put a drive in the end zone.
06:57Oh, I agree with you totally.
06:59No one goes out on the field and says,
07:01alright, let's just settle for three except in certain situations.
07:04Trying to ice a game, that sort of deal.
07:07Most of the time it's end zone and that's what you're thinking.
07:09And I believe that's exactly what they're thinking as they begin this one.
07:12Yeah, no quarterback ever goes out there saying, hey, let's get three, right?
07:16Not one that I've ever met.
07:22And they'll begin this drive with C.J. Spillin.
07:26And able to get this one across the 45 before he's brought down.
07:31A nice carry there of 15 yards.
07:34It's really coming to Vogue to talk about the different gaps
07:37that a defense tries to attack in an offensive line.
07:40And most of the time we're talking about blitzes.
07:42How many times have you heard double A-gap blitz?
07:44Well, where is the A-gap?
07:46It's the space between the center and the guards, either side.
07:50So when you're having a double A-gap blitz,
07:52it's two guys coming through that gap.
07:54In this situation, though, that A-gap wasn't open for the defense to exploit.
07:58The offensive line took care of it, protected it,
08:01and moved the defensive guys out of the way to allow for that nice run.
08:05Brought in left side by Sneed.
08:07That one goes for 24 yards.
08:11Of course, the catch was nice, but how about what happened after?
08:14Able to stay on his feet and gain all that additional yardage.
08:18So many of these slot guys, I think, have running back in their background.
08:25So after that big gain, let's see what else the offense has up its sleeve.
08:35They come out here in the eye.
08:37Breeze hands to Ingram.
08:39And he'll be dropped at the 23 after a pickup of about four.
08:43And on the tackle, Jonathan Babineau.
08:47Not a run that you're going to write home about, but still a good first down run.
08:51That's what an offense calls staying on schedule.
08:53Three to four yards on first down, you're set up very well for the rest of the drive.
08:57And after the play on the ground, that brings up second down here.
09:07Breeze to throw on second down.
09:10Over the middle, open is Thomas.
09:12Four yards at the completion, and it sets up a third down.
09:16Well, if you do read man coverage, Brandon, the drag route's a pretty good one to run against it
09:20because you're running away from people on it.
09:29Completed pass on second down.
09:31Now it's third down as the defense looks for the stop.
09:34They come up with one back.
09:35That's Ingram.
09:40He'll get the football here.
09:42And he'll have the first down, getting this one to the 14-yard line.
09:47It's a pickup of six and good enough to move the chains.
09:50On third down, that's a good job of situational football
09:54and understanding where the first down marker was and getting there.
10:05So the offense has it first and 10.
10:07Just moving!
10:08Just moving!
10:11Trips! Trips!
10:13Ready!
10:15Breeze now on first down.
10:18That's complete right around the eight.
10:19A good pickup there.
10:21Eight yards on the first down completion.
10:26Never make the mistake that the slot receivers, especially the little guys like we're watching here,
10:30are just quicker than fast.
10:32A lot of them combine quickness and speed, and they catch a lot of footballs as we just saw there.
10:37And here comes play number six on this drive.
10:40And here comes play number six on this drive.
10:49Now Ingram, he's been busy today.
10:52And he is in for the score!
10:54Touchdown New Orleans!
10:57Mark Ingram!
10:58Mark Ingram!
10:58A five-yard touchdown run!
11:01And the Saints now at six to their lead!
11:05I know the play ends up in the end zone with one person carrying the ball,
11:08but how about that big mass of humanity that guided him to that spot?
11:12Yeah, they got there, but I love the dot.
11:14Always a fan of the dot.
11:16Always a fan of the dot.
11:21Now Forebath for the extra point.
11:29It's good to make it 17-7.
11:36So that drives seven plays in length.
11:39And it's Mark Ingram who caps it off with a touchdown run.
11:53Outro music!
