Army officer Duke Halliday (Robert Mitchum) is headed to Mexico to track down a con artist named Jim Fiske (Patric Knowles). Along the way, he meets the beautiful Joan Graham (Jane Greer), who, like Halliday, was double-crossed by the shifty Fiske for a large sum of money. Complicating their search is Vincent Blake (William Bendix), a military man out to get Halliday, and Ortega (Ramon Novarro), a police inspector who is patiently waiting to see how the various conflicts play out.

00:03:59Adios, chiquita
00:04:03If that means what I think it does...
00:04:05It does.
00:04:09Hey, you know so much about etiquette. Get to work on Chiquita.
00:04:23Taxi! Taxi!
00:04:53Taxi!
00:04:56Oh, you can have it.
00:04:57Who?
00:04:58How about usted?
00:04:59It's out of the door.
00:05:00Ya puto.
00:05:01Ah!
00:05:01Mi mata!
00:05:03Ah!
00:05:04Ah!
00:05:16Who is it?
00:05:17It's Joan.
00:05:18Come on, Jim. Open the door.
00:05:25Why, Joan, darling, where did you drop from?
00:05:31Never mind locking it. I'm not staying.
00:05:34Oh, now, Joan, don't let start a fight.
00:05:37Now you can give me back my $2,000.
00:05:39Well, that's a fine way to greet the guy you're engaged to.
00:05:42What did you expect? Kisses?
00:05:44I don't understand. I thought...
00:05:46No, no. You thought I was the type of girl who would sit home and cry her eyes.
00:05:49I... I don't get it. What's there to cry about?
00:05:52The $2,000 you borrowed.
00:05:54If you're gonna put the dollar sign in front of everything, I guess I'm lucky to find it out now,
00:05:58before we got married.
00:06:01You know, darling, a woman has to have a little faith in a minute.
00:06:04Oh, you're a fine one to talk about faith. You don't know what the word means.
00:06:08Oh, don't I?
00:06:09Oh, stop it.
00:06:10Last time you started that, it cost me my bank account.
00:06:13There's that dollar sign again.
00:06:14Where? I don't see it.
00:06:16Come on, hand it over. I was saving that money for my true self.
00:06:20Darling, your pride's been hurt because I went away without a word.
00:06:22And stayed away without several.
00:06:24Will you try to believe there was a reason? A good one?
00:06:27Sure. You wanted to surprise me by not coming back.
00:06:32But, darling, I planned on starting back tomorrow.
00:06:35Go on.
00:06:36I wanted to walk in on you and dump a fortune on you.
00:06:39I don't want a fortune. All I want is what you owe me.
00:06:41I'm trying to tell you. I'm gonna give it all back to you with interest.
00:06:44Just as soon as I finish the little job I'm on.
00:06:46Then I'll just wait.
00:06:47Fine. It won't take long. All I have to do is deliver something to a man.
00:06:51All right. Where do we deliver it?
00:06:53We?
00:06:54You won't mind my going along.
00:06:56No, of course not. I was just going down to rent a car.
00:06:59We'll leave in an hour.
00:07:01You go on in and freshen up a little bit and I'll be right back.
00:07:09Is that what we're delivering?
00:07:11Uh, yes.
00:07:12How long a trip is it?
00:07:14Oh, a couple of hundred kilometers.
00:07:15It is.
00:07:18We go through a little place called, uh, Libris.
00:07:22Not Tewa Khan?
00:07:25No.
00:07:26That was another trip.
00:07:28Oh.
00:07:30Wait a minute. That's the only map I've got.
00:07:32I'll keep it safe.
00:07:36I hope this is waterproof, Mr. Fisk.
00:07:38Well, I'm taking a shower.
00:07:40And it's taking one with me.
00:07:56The fourth of Mr. Fisk is coming.
00:07:58Thank you, Mr. Fisk.
00:07:59That's what I'm doing.
00:08:00I've got to get you.
00:08:32All right, Fisk, come on out.
00:08:35What?
00:08:41Come on out, sister.
00:08:43Who is it?
00:08:45Captain Vincent Blake, United States Army.
00:08:48Open the door.
00:08:49I will not.
00:08:51All right, then I'm coming in there.
00:08:53No, no, no, wait, wait, just a minute.
00:09:01Let's go.
00:09:11Chiquita.
00:09:13What are you doing here?
00:09:14Get out.
00:09:15You Army men might be accustomed to group showers.
00:09:18I like mine alone.
00:09:19Where's Fisk?
00:09:21Taking the parrot for a walk.
00:09:23You, uh, you wouldn't be his wife, would you?
00:09:26No, I wouldn't.
00:09:28Mm-hmm.
00:09:30I don't like that mm-hmm.
00:09:32I'm not his wife.
00:09:33If you were, I wouldn't be saying mm-hmm.
00:09:46What are you looking for?
00:09:48Huh?
00:09:49Well, just a few hundred thousand dollars.
00:09:51There's nothing here.
00:09:55All right, where is it?
00:09:57I don't know what you're talking about.
00:09:59When Mr. Fisk comes back, he'll take care of you.
00:10:00You want to know something?
00:10:01I don't think Mr. Fisk is coming back.
00:10:03Now, look here, Captain, whatever your name is.
00:10:05Blake.
00:10:06You'll find Jim down at the bar.
00:10:08Sure, he's probably buying the parrot a drink.
00:10:32Well, it looks like you were sort of caught holding the bag.
00:10:35You thought it was in there, too, didn't you?
00:10:37You weren't by any chance planning on a few minks
00:10:39and a couple of new convertibles, were you?
00:10:42I...
00:10:44Why are you always so chivalrous to strange women, Captain Blake?
00:10:49We'll kick that around some other time.
00:11:03Good night.
00:11:07Boy!
00:11:13Boy!
00:11:14Cuidado, Pepe!
00:11:15Cuidado!
00:11:16What do you mean by yelling at him?
00:11:17You almost made him drop it.
00:11:19I'm sorry.
00:11:19That wouldn't have helped much in putting the pieces together.
00:11:22This is almost 400 years old.
00:11:24I was just trying to ask him where I can rent a car.
00:11:26Well, go ahead and ask him.
00:11:28Where can I rent a car?
00:11:29I can recommend you only Bagus and Compania.
00:11:32One block down Calle Vista, two blocks right.
00:11:35Gracias.
00:11:45Usted sigue, senor.
00:11:49Mister, mister, you're next.
00:11:59A loco, americano.
00:12:07There will be a 500 pesos deposit, senor.
00:12:10Where do I hit the highway?
00:12:11To Table Can.
00:12:12You drive six blocks out Calle Internacional, talk to the right.
00:12:14You check the spare?
00:12:16Thank you, senor.
00:12:24I was just coming back to get you.
00:12:26Sure you were.
00:12:27You might need a clean shirt.
00:12:29Who else have you been stealing from?
00:12:30What are you talking about?
00:12:32Stop lying, Jim.
00:12:33I was talking to an army man.
00:12:34He searched your rooms after you left.
00:12:36We opened the same briefcase.
00:12:39Is the money in there?
00:12:40Well, who said anything about money?
00:12:42Captain Blake.
00:12:44Blake?
00:12:45But...
00:12:46What do you look like?
00:12:51That's Duke Halliday.
00:13:11Having trouble, Mr. Halliday?
00:13:12Hey, give me a hand, will you?
00:13:14I can't understand this guy.
00:13:15So your name is Halliday?
00:13:16No, no.
00:13:17You know what it is.
00:13:18Come on, get this guy off my neck.
00:13:19Get him off yourself.
00:13:21You speak Spanish.
00:13:24What did you say to him?
00:13:27I told him we were complete strange.
00:13:29No, no, no.
00:13:33Now, wait a minute.
00:13:34Now, you've done it.
00:13:39What did you have to get me into it for?
00:13:41In the what?
00:13:42I don't know what I got myself into.
00:13:43The Inspector General's office.
00:13:45You're going to have some explaining to do.
00:13:47Am I?
00:13:48Well, in that case, you better keep your mouth shut if you want to keep Fisk out of jail.
00:13:52If you want to stay out of jail, you better do the same.
00:14:17Oh, I speak English.
00:14:20Oh, I didn't know.
00:14:21Oh, yes.
00:14:21I am student of my lieutenant.
00:14:23He's University of California alumni.
00:14:26Alumnus.
00:14:26Oh, that's fine, Captain, but-
00:14:29Inspector General.
00:14:30Oh, sorry, Inspector General.
00:14:32But there's no time to lose.
00:14:33I've got to get out of here quick.
00:14:34If you'll just listen to me.
00:14:35Certainly.
00:14:36Your tourist card, please.
00:14:42Come on, hurry it up, will you?
00:14:46Thank you very much.
00:14:59This explains your excellent Spanish.
00:15:01Inspector, please.
00:15:02I am so sorry, but there are other formalities.
00:15:05Your tourist card, please.
00:15:14Captain Vincent Blackie.
00:15:17Blake.
00:15:18Blackie.
00:15:19Blake.
00:15:20Blake.
00:15:22United States Army.
00:15:24Mm-hmm.
00:15:27Mm-hmm.
00:15:28Officer Morales spoke of some alter, um, alter, um.
00:15:33Altercation.
00:15:34Fight.
00:15:35Oh, yes.
00:15:36Would you mind explaining, Captain Blake?
00:15:38Well, I was just trying to stop a man.
00:15:40The United States Army has reason for questioning him.
00:15:42Oh, and the man, his name, please.
00:15:44Uh, Fisher.
00:15:46James Fisher.
00:15:48Fisher.
00:15:49Mm-hmm.
00:15:51Has extradition been arranged?
00:15:53Well, a request has been put in.
00:15:56It's unfortunate I haven't been advised.
00:15:58I know I meant to do that, but I ran into him.
00:16:01I guess I acted on the spur of the moment, but there he was.
00:16:04And there you were, and there was Morales, so here we are.
00:16:09Next time you won't be so, uh, impulsive, perhaps.
00:16:13No, sir.
00:16:14Then you may go.
00:16:16Right.
00:16:16Unless Miss Graham has something to add.
00:16:18No.
00:16:18No, nothing.
00:16:20You and Captain Blake are, uh, old friends?
00:16:23Well, uh, we have a mutual interest.
00:16:28Birds.
00:16:29Oh.
00:16:29Thank you for your courtesy, sir.
00:16:30We are always glad to be of service to Army officials.
00:16:33Yes, I trust we shall soon see each other again, Captain, uh...
00:16:36Captain Blake.
00:16:36Oh, yes, Captain Blake.
00:16:42My English is improving, no?
00:16:43Oh, yes, Inspector.
00:16:45Pero no le parece a usted que lo dejó.
00:16:48I'll tell you a little story in English.
00:16:53Once upon a time, there was a cat who had a little mouse right in its paws, but he let
00:16:59the little mouse go that later he could follow that little mouse into a group of other little mouses, mice.
00:17:07You're a clever cat, Inspector.
00:17:11So is the mouse.
00:17:18Can you please let go of me?
00:17:20I don't like being mauled.
00:17:21This isn't mauling.
00:17:22It's called hanging arms.
00:17:23Whatever it's called, I don't like it.
00:17:25Well, you'll have to learn to if you're not going to break down and tell me where that friend of
00:17:28yours went.
00:17:28I said I didn't know.
00:17:29And I said I didn't believe you.
00:17:31You must know something.
00:17:31I do.
00:17:32You have the worst manners of anyone I've ever met.
00:17:39Come on in.
00:18:04I'll give you the worst manners of anyone I've ever met.
00:18:05I'll give you the worst manners of anyone I've ever met.
00:18:10There's a lot of people I've ever met.
00:18:13There's a lot of people I've ever met.
00:18:13Here's Captain Blanque.
00:18:16Blake.
00:18:16What's this?
00:18:18What's this?
00:18:23No habla of Spanish so good.
00:18:25I speak English good.
00:18:27Oh, what a break.
00:18:29I'm Captain Blake of the United States Army.
00:18:32I need your help, Inspector.
00:18:34In what way can I help you, Captain?
00:18:36I'm looking for a man named Duke Halliday.
00:18:38He arrived on the Santa Maria a couple of hours ago.
00:18:41He might be using an alias, probably is.
00:18:43I hate to interrupt you, but can I see your credentials, Captain?
00:18:47Well, unfortunately, I had an encounter with Halliday on board the ship.
00:18:52He pulled a fast one on me and stole them.
00:18:55I see.
00:18:56However, if you'll get in touch with Army Headquarters
00:18:58and ask for a description of Captain Vincent Blake,
00:19:01you'll find a crescent-shaped scar indicated on my record.
00:19:04That won't be necessary, Captain.
00:19:06Thank you, sir.
00:19:08I had expedition papers, but he took them too.
00:19:10I'm sending for duplicates.
00:19:12May I proceed before they arrive?
00:19:15You have my permission.
00:19:17Good.
00:19:18When I find him, I'll let you know so that you can make the arrest.
00:19:20Good luck, Captain.
00:19:22Good day.
00:19:23Good day.
00:19:27What means he pulled the fast one?
00:19:31Captain Sunday.
00:19:33Strange language, but colorful.
00:19:36Call the American consul and get the complete report on Captain Blake.
00:19:40The cat reaches out with his other paw, huh?
00:19:43To toy with another mouse?
00:19:46Bueno.
00:19:46No.
00:19:50Bye-bye.
00:20:04OK-bye.
00:20:15tys caracterÃsticas
00:20:23American.
00:20:55Shall we follow the mouse?
00:20:57Yes.
00:20:59Better no.
00:21:00Let us rush to the airport instead.
00:21:02Yes, Inspector.
00:21:37What do you think you're doing?
00:21:38Oh, I just thought you might be lonely.
00:21:40Just step all over me.
00:21:41Sorry, I just don't like women drivers.
00:21:43I rented this car and I'm responsible for it.
00:21:45Well, what do you know?
00:21:47A road map.
00:21:49With the route marked nice and clear.
00:21:52Being a moderately intelligent fellow,
00:21:54I can only come to one conclusion.
00:21:55You follow the pencil line and we find Fisk.
00:22:00You're too young to read a map.
00:22:01It's the right turn, not straight ahead.
00:22:03That is, if you're going by way of providentia,
00:22:06which according to the map you are.
00:22:39Is this?
00:22:41Yes, sir?
00:22:43Well, that's what's our message?
00:23:29I don't, uh, I don't usually make it a habit to butt into women's affairs, but what's this guy Fisk
00:23:36to you?
00:23:37Don't change your habits because of me.
00:23:39I wouldn't if we didn't have so much in common.
00:23:43Fisk. I'm interested in him, you're interested in him.
00:23:46Not a bad-looking fella.
00:23:48Is that why you're interested in him?
00:23:50Chiquita.
00:23:51Look, stop calling me Chiquita.
00:23:53You don't say that to girls you don't even know.
00:23:55Or I learn Spanish, you do.
00:23:59Oh, come on, hurry up, will you?
00:24:01Pronto, pronto.
00:24:02Peace, senor.
00:24:15Oh, come on.
00:24:16Hey, senor, pagame mi dinero.
00:24:18Fui va.
00:24:19¿Redúnen, redúnenme?
00:24:20¡Cierre la sorte!
00:24:22¡Cierre la sorte!
00:24:44Who's holding the bag now?
00:24:49Gentlemen, you don't know how sorry I am.
00:24:50Thank you very much.
00:24:52My calves, my shoes, my cars, all broken!
00:24:55Pedro, Pedro, help me!
00:24:57Get out of here!
00:24:58Get out of here!
00:25:00Get out of here!
00:25:02Get out of here!
00:25:12One thing about Jim, he's no dope.
00:25:15Are you praising him or taking me apart?
00:25:17Both.
00:25:19What do you suppose he did with that money?
00:25:22Oh, he probably chewed it up and swallowed it.
00:25:24What's the matter?
00:25:26Nosebleed.
00:25:27Ran into a wall.
00:25:29Nothing to worry about.
00:25:30Here.
00:25:31You let me...
00:25:34Who's worrying?
00:25:35I am.
00:25:37Worrying on my nose might stop bleeding.
00:25:40Keep your mind on the roads.
00:25:41I can't.
00:25:43In that case, you better let me drive for a while.
00:25:47Okay, but remember my weakened condition.
00:25:50I'm not sure.
00:26:08I'm no longer...
00:26:09I'll go out of here.
00:26:09I'm better than you.
00:26:14I'm fine.
00:26:16Thank you, Mr.
00:26:25Look, I want to get there fast, but in one piece.
00:26:29So would you mind not taking the curve so haphazard-like?
00:26:32Did you learn English in the same place you learned Spanish?
00:26:35Captain Vincent, Duke, Blake, Halliday?
00:26:39Not the same place, but several just like it.
00:26:42You know how it is in the Army, Miss Graham.
00:26:44Graham.
00:26:45How do you do? My name's Halliday.
00:26:47I was beginning to suspect it might be.
00:26:50Bright girl.
00:26:51Bright enough, but a little confused.
00:26:54You tell so many different stories.
00:26:56Well, I'm just fishing around for one that'll keep me out of jail.
00:26:59That's where I'm going if I lose Fisk.
00:27:02I know just what happened.
00:27:04You're being blamed for something Jim did.
00:27:07May I fill in a few details?
00:27:09As long as it isn't too sad.
00:27:12See, when I hear sad stories, I cry.
00:27:14And when I cry, I can't drive.
00:27:17Never mind where you've been. Just worry about where you're going.
00:27:30You see, I'm what you call a finance officer.
00:27:32I handle payrolls.
00:27:33Pick up the money at the bank and take it on back to the post.
00:27:37Only last time, I didn't quite make the post.
00:27:40Fisk waylaid me.
00:27:42He had a gun, so what could I do but hand over the payroll?
00:27:46Of course you told the story to the Army.
00:27:49Well, sure I did.
00:27:49To my superior, Blake.
00:27:52Didn't believe me.
00:27:53He seemed to think that I had put Fisk up to it.
00:27:56No, I took out after Fisk, and Blake naturally took out after me.
00:28:00You're a big boy.
00:28:01As big as Fisk is.
00:28:03Why didn't you give him an argument?
00:28:06Didn't you have a gun?
00:28:07Yeah, but I was looking down the barrel of his.
00:28:09So I gave him the $300,000.
00:28:12$300,000?
00:28:13Now, don't cry, please.
00:28:14Well, I'm not crying, but $300,000.
00:28:17When I gave Jim $2,000, I thought it was a fortune.
00:28:20Don't tell me he clipped you.
00:28:22He called it borrowing.
00:28:25No security?
00:28:26Unless you call a nice smile security.
00:28:30That's all you got for your money?
00:28:34Certainly was.
00:28:37I'll tell you what, Chiquita.
00:28:38You believe me, and I believe you.
00:29:13Step forward, Chiquita.
00:29:37Look out for the cow.
00:29:39Look out for the cow.
00:29:49Don't use the brakes, third and second.
00:29:51That way you won't lose speed.
00:29:52This is a fine time to get driving lessons.
00:29:54Just keep your eyes glued to the road.
00:29:58Let's go.
00:30:10No!
00:30:17Let's go!
00:30:23Oh, my God.
00:30:48Oh, my God.
00:31:34Oh, my God.
00:31:54Oh, my God.
00:31:56Oh, my God.
00:32:22Oh, my God.
00:32:43Oh, my God.
00:32:46Oh, my God.
00:33:01That stopped him, Captain Halliday.
00:33:03Lieutenant Halliday, Miss Graham.
00:33:05A man who thinks as fast as that should be promoted.
00:33:08Well, that's nothing.
00:33:09Every time I get in a tight spot with Blake, I always turn goats loose.
00:33:13One thing I can't figure out.
00:33:14You have a gun.
00:33:15Why didn't you use it?
00:33:17In the Army, they hang it for shooting captains.
00:33:20I've got a crazy notion.
00:33:23Maybe you're on the level.
00:33:25Maybe Jim did steal your money.
00:33:28You know, I got a notion, too.
00:33:31Maybe he stole your money.
00:33:35Get out of here!
00:33:36Ben!
00:33:38Joe!
00:33:39Get out of here!
00:33:41Get out of the way!
00:34:13I got out of here!
00:34:16I got out of here!
00:34:26I'm Inspector General Ortega.
00:34:28I'm very pleased to meet you.
00:34:29I'd like to get this wheel changed.
00:34:30Which did you say was your name?
00:34:34Fisk.
00:34:34If you don't mind, I'm in a hurry.
00:34:36Oh, you Americans are always in a hurry.
00:34:38Llévate al coche al señor Fisk a que le confonga la llanta.
00:34:41Si, senor.
00:34:42Tomás will attend to everything.
00:34:44Meantime, let me give you the pleasure of showing you the hotel.
00:34:47That's very kind of you, but I think perhaps I'd better go to the hotel.
00:34:49Please, I am learning English.
00:34:51And it's so seldom I meet few people who speak it.
00:34:54Well, I have to get a new tire, the spare shot, too.
00:34:56And you know how it is. A man likes to know what he's getting.
00:34:58Lieutenant, accompany Tomás.
00:35:00Si, senor Inspector.
00:35:01There is no mechanic in the world who can pull a sundae on my lieutenant.
00:35:05Will you hurry it up, please?
00:35:29No more for me, thanks. Once enough. I'd better be on my way.
00:35:32But your car is not ready, Mr. Fisk.
00:35:41Duke, there's his car.
00:35:56You ask the questions while I take a look around.
00:35:59Señor, por favor.
00:36:01¿Dónde está el dueño del este automóvil?
00:36:04En el hotel, señorita.
00:36:06¿El coche los trajo un botones?
00:36:08Gracias.
00:36:09De nada, señor.
00:36:24¿Qué haces?
00:36:25SÃ.
00:36:26¿Qué haces?
00:36:27¿Qué haces?
00:36:27SÃ.
00:36:27Jim está en el hotel.
00:36:49Nice to have met you, Inspector.
00:36:51I hope we meet again.
00:36:52I look forward.
00:37:00There he is.
00:37:01Uh-oh, he's got company.
00:37:18Miss Graham, Captain Blake.
00:37:20If this were not Tewakan, I would be surprised.
00:37:23But everyone comes to Tewakan later or soon.
00:37:25Yeah, don't they?
00:37:26Miss Graham, Captain Blake, Mr. Fisk.
00:37:28How do you do?
00:37:29How do you do?
00:37:30How are you?
00:37:31Getting better all the time.
00:37:32How are you?
00:37:32I was just leaving.
00:37:34Oh, really?
00:37:34So are we.
00:37:35Nice to see you, Inspector.
00:37:36Oh, no, please.
00:37:37You just arrived.
00:37:38I've changed my mind about that drink.
00:37:40Somebody say something about a drink?
00:37:41Someone will be very glad to mention one, Captain.
00:37:44Mesero.
00:37:45There is a typical drink I want you to try.
00:37:48Pulque curado.
00:37:49Cuatro pulques curados a finger.
00:37:51You must forgive a bad custom of me.
00:37:53Making others' minds before they do, or try to, anyway.
00:37:57It's all right.
00:37:58I'm getting used to having my mind made up for me.
00:38:00Are you really?
00:38:02Uh, it's the country, you know.
00:38:03She's been watching the Mexicans.
00:38:06Our women are like all women.
00:38:08They listen.
00:38:09They smile.
00:38:10They agree.
00:38:11And then they don't.
00:38:15Who did you say was watching the women?
00:38:21Too bad you are in a hurry up, Captain Blake.
00:38:23Oh, I'm in no rush.
00:38:25Not now.
00:38:26This place sort of grows, right?
00:38:28Then why not stay?
00:38:29It is crowded, but we can always get one more room.
00:38:34Two rooms.
00:38:35There is always room for another room.
00:38:37Yes, why don't you stay?
00:38:38It'll do you good and give you a different outlook on life.
00:38:41My outlook's getting different by the minute.
00:38:43Are you staying?
00:38:44I have been asking him to, but he's also in a hurry rush.
00:38:47I'm the impatient type, Mr. Graham.
00:38:50Not nearly so impatient as I, Mr. Fisk.
00:38:53Ah, thank God.
00:38:54Such a well chance to practice my English.
00:38:57But if you must go, you will.
00:38:59Sorry to disappoint you, Inspector.
00:39:01Well, I'm not going to disappoint you.
00:39:03I'm staying.
00:39:05Good.
00:39:05You won't resent Mr. Fisk.
00:39:07No, I'm sure I won't.
00:39:09I'll speak to the manager now.
00:39:11Inspector, you know, I just thought there might not be another time.
00:39:14I think we'll stay too.
00:39:16Wonderful.
00:39:17Before you change your mind, we go, huh?
00:39:55Going somewhere?
00:40:132-0-5.
00:40:162-0-5.
00:40:30Hang up your receiver, will you?
00:40:31It's liable to keep me awake.
00:40:33Joan's watching your window if you're thinking of getting out that way.
00:40:44Okay.
00:40:45You win.
00:40:46You don't have to throw your hand in, Fisk.
00:40:49Come on, draw another card.
00:40:50I've had enough.
00:40:51Can't we talk it over?
00:40:52You mean that?
00:40:53Yeah.
00:40:57Now you're talking sense.
00:40:59There's no reason why we can't talk this thing over.
00:41:02Come on, come on.
00:41:03Come on!
00:41:03Come on.
00:41:03Come on, come on.
00:41:06Come on, come on!
00:41:06Come on, come on, come on.
00:41:07Come on, come on, come on.
00:41:27Two o'ays.
00:41:31Te sientes ocho, por favor.
00:41:35Hello, Chiquita.
00:41:38That guy that owes you money wants to talk to you.
00:41:42I'm in his room.
00:41:48All right, where is it?
00:41:50Why, ask me.
00:41:52You saw those two guys get the suitcase.
00:41:54Close it, Chiquita.
00:41:58Yeah, I saw you throw him the suitcase and I saw what was in it.
00:42:01Now, where's the money?
00:42:04Money? Who said anything about money?
00:42:06A friend of mine knew I was coming up this way, so he gave me a suitcase to deliver.
00:42:09I don't know what was in it.
00:42:12Maybe you better look the other way.
00:42:16Where'd you hide it?
00:42:17I didn't hide anything.
00:42:22Duke, maybe it's in the car.
00:42:26Sure.
00:42:27It's got to be there.
00:42:31Here.
00:42:33You think you can handle him?
00:42:50You got a cigarette, Joan?
00:42:52I quit smoking.
00:42:53Just now.
00:42:55Joan, you've got to be...
00:43:03I said, don't move.
00:43:06Darling, I don't think you'll shoot me.
00:43:11You're taking Halliday's word against mine.
00:43:14The word of a guy you don't even know.
00:43:19Why, Joan?
00:43:21I haven't changed.
00:43:23I'm the same guy who held you in his arms.
00:43:27Who still loves you.
00:43:36You lost something?
00:43:38No, not me.
00:43:40Mr. Fisk.
00:43:40His glasses.
00:43:41Can't see a thing without him.
00:43:43I'll help you look.
00:43:44No need.
00:43:45I found him.
00:43:46Then we'll go back to the hotel, us two, huh?
00:43:50Yeah.
00:44:22Oh, Duke.
00:44:23I tried, but I couldn't...
00:44:24All you had to do was pull the trigger.
00:44:25Unless you wanted him to get away.
00:44:27Don't go blaming me.
00:44:29It was your idea to leave me here.
00:44:30All right.
00:44:31I'm sorry.
00:44:32I shouldn't have left you alone.
00:44:33He was scared I'd find the money and run off.
00:44:35Shh.
00:44:35Quiet, Chiquita.
00:45:04You don't know the birdcage's trick, do you?
00:45:07Or the Indian rope trick?
00:45:10That's all we need.
00:45:11I lose Fisk, I get Blake.
00:45:13I'm dead.
00:45:15Duke.
00:45:17Will you give me one more chance?
00:45:20Sure, Chiquita.
00:45:37Hey, hey!
00:45:39What happened to me with my money?
00:45:56Going somewhere, miss?
00:45:57I beg your pardon?
00:45:58Where's Halliday?
00:46:00Halliday?
00:46:00Yeah, the guy who was with you.
00:46:02Where is he?
00:46:03Oh, you mean the man I gave the lift to from Veracruz.
00:46:05But his name is Blake.
00:46:06When did he tell you that?
00:46:07When I was shooting at him?
00:46:09You?
00:46:10Not so fast.
00:46:11Let me go.
00:46:12I haven't done anything.
00:46:13You've done plenty.
00:46:14You've helped a man escape from me.
00:46:16I'm Captain Blake.
00:46:17But he said...
00:46:18Never mind what he said.
00:46:19Come on before I throw you in jail.
00:46:21Where is he?
00:46:22He's in the hotel.
00:46:24Room 206.
00:46:45Move over!
00:46:50Move over!
00:46:52Move over!
00:46:53Move over!
00:46:54Move over!
00:47:00Thanks, amigo.
00:47:01Amiga, feminine.
00:47:03I better stick to Chiquita.
00:47:04Thanks, Chiquita.
00:47:06Buonada, Grandote.
00:47:07Well, plenty.
00:47:07It was a tight spot.
00:47:09So tight, I stopped thinking.
00:47:11I should have put his car out of action.
00:47:13I wouldn't worry too much about it.
00:47:32Hey, muchacho.
00:47:34Hey, get me a mechanic.
00:47:37Automobile.
00:47:38Get me an automobile.
00:47:39Pronto, rapido.
00:47:41Automobile.
00:48:16Now what?
00:48:51Hey, come on.
00:48:52Move over, will you?
00:48:54Get out of the way.
00:48:56All right, tell me that's not the polite thing to do now.
00:48:59I never said a word.
00:49:01No, but you think it's funny.
00:49:03Boy, I bet you're fun to take a trip with.
00:49:05A little bit of trouble and you jump all over people.
00:49:07You call what I meant a little bit of trouble?
00:49:09Come on, move over.
00:49:10Will you get out of the road?
00:49:12I'm in it too, or didn't you notice?
00:49:16Look, will you, famoose, get off the road.
00:49:18Move over.
00:49:22Let's go.
00:49:49I'm sorry, doll.
00:49:50Must have been some of the dust I'm eating.
00:49:54Didn't you hear me?
00:49:55I said I'm sorry.
00:49:57I heard you.
00:50:00Oh.
00:50:40Get out of the way.
00:50:46I didn't say a word, but I'm thinking.
00:50:50He says, can't we see the road's blocked?
00:50:52Is he kidding?
00:50:52Of course we can see it.
00:51:01The highway's all right.
00:51:02He said he put a sign across this road.
00:51:04Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
00:51:06Jim.
00:51:07Sweet guy.
00:51:08Like you said, no dope.
00:51:10What are we waiting for?
00:51:11Turn around.
00:51:12Oh, no.
00:51:12I'm the kind of guy who doesn't like to turn around, Chiquita.
00:51:14There's a guy right behind me with a gun, remember?
00:51:16Ask him how far ahead is the highway.
00:51:18Señor, ¿qué tan lejos está la carretera?
00:51:21No más de un kilómetro, pero no pueden ustedes pasar.
00:51:23Hear what he said?
00:51:24Of course I heard.
00:51:26What did he say?
00:51:28Less than a mile away, but try and get there.
00:51:30That's exactly what I'm going to do.
00:52:00What's he congratulating us for?
00:52:02We're eloping.
00:52:03Mi padre y un mal hombre se oponen.
00:52:05No cree que este gran muchacho sea bueno para mÃ.
00:52:08Usted ve que sà es bueno.
00:52:14What's the matter with me?
00:52:16I told him my father doesn't like you.
00:52:18Verdad que es grande y hermoso.
00:52:22Grande, sÃ, pero yo no lo llamarÃa hermoso.
00:52:26Well, thanks.
00:52:27What's that for?
00:52:27Don't ask questions.
00:52:28Just take it and like it.
00:52:29I like it fine.
00:52:30Keep it up.
00:52:31You won't get jealous if I drag in another man,
00:52:34the one my father wants me to marry.
00:53:13Gracias.
00:53:15Ten what?
00:53:16Children.
00:53:18Ten kids.
00:53:22Su padre.
00:53:23Su padre.
00:53:23Corranle a prisa.
00:53:24Vámonos.
00:53:25Corran, vámonos.
00:53:27Vámonos.
00:53:35Viene, viene, viene, viene.
00:53:37A la derecha, a la derecha.
00:53:39La tipa de izquierda.
00:53:43Viene, viene, viene.
00:53:45Más, más, más.
00:53:46Haz la prisa.
00:53:47Más, para acá, más, para acá.
00:53:48¡Viene, viene, viene!
00:53:58¿Qué quiere usted de aqu
00:53:59Put those prises out of here.
00:54:01¡Largo de aquÃ!
00:54:01Put those prises back in there.
00:54:03What's the matter with you guys?
00:54:05I'm trying to get through there.
00:54:08I'm trying to stop that car.
00:54:12Get him into it.
00:54:13No, señor.
00:54:13We're not trying to stop it.
00:54:14No, we're not trying to stop it.
00:54:17Well, now, you're the one that's up for promotion.
00:54:19Oh, it's nothing.
00:54:21When I find a bridge out, I always dig up a romance.
00:54:24I, uh, didn't get all of what you said to him.
00:54:27You know where I learned Spanish.
00:54:28Yes, I know.
00:54:30All I said was, we were running away to get married.
00:54:33My cruel father was chasing us with a shotgun.
00:54:36He wanted me to marry a small, ugly man.
00:54:38I preferred the big, pretty one.
00:54:41You know, he was nice, that foreman.
00:54:43I hated to lie to him.
00:54:46Everything you said lies?
00:54:49Well, not everything.
00:54:51You are big.
00:54:55Thanks.
00:54:57Here, busy yourself with this for a while.
00:55:13The turn-off should be around here somewhere.
00:55:15It should be 10 kilometers from that last town we've passed.
00:55:19You think you're old enough to read a map now?

01:10:20With the chaperone, of course.
01:10:24Then he stands outside her window and sings.
01:10:27Oh.
01:10:29And if she likes the song, then she opens the window and lets them in.
01:10:34The windows have bars on them.
01:10:37Oh.
