00:00I need an explanation if this is happening in one year.
00:03So now the Mets, okay, take them to the side.
00:06The other teams are usually good in recent history.
00:09So now the Dodgers have to get under, right?
00:11How do those other teams, how do they shed that salary?
00:15And now do they get held ransom?
00:17So they've been trying to win.
00:18They've won back-to-back championships.
00:20They're going for number three.
00:21Now they're directly, I'm a Dodgers fan in this scenario.
00:24My team, they spent for Otani.
00:26They spent for those players, right?
00:28Now I have to shed them.
00:30What do I get in return for giving up players that I paid for to help me win?
00:34I get nothing in return.
00:36So now the Phillies have to part with Swarber or Bryce Harper or Trey Turner or Wheeler
00:40just because you said so arbitrarily.
00:43When my team's actually been trying to win for years,
00:46my issue with it is the floor is far too low.
00:48And this isn't a quibble.
00:50It's 20% too low.
00:52That's a lot of millions too low.
00:53And they're also punishing teams that actively try to win, including the Braves,
00:58who have the best record in baseball.
00:59They now have to arbitrarily give up players.
01:02And what do they get in return?
01:04Why would those low-salary teams give me prospects when they know I have to give up the money?
01:09You're screwing teams that have tried to win and rewarding the damn Marlins.
01:13You're rewarding the Pirates.
01:15You're rewarding the Rays.
01:16I find that to be repugnant, and it's bad for me as a fan that my team gets stripped away.
01:22And that's what this does.
01:23Well, I don't think it's repugnant.
01:25I think that's a big word for that one.
01:26Why am I losing Bryce Harper?
01:28That being said, there's got to be a plan that we've not seen yet for how they're going to force
01:33teams to shed salary.
01:34I've not seen that written on what the plan is.
01:37If teams get grandfathered in until contracts expire, which is my best guess is what they'll do.
01:42So I think it'll be a scale, like over the next five years, you have to get under this number.
01:48I know, but I haven't seen what the plan is.
01:50There's got to be a plan of, for the six teams that are above the new alleged or proposed threshold,
01:57there's got to be a way for them to get under, other than just having a yard sale to get
02:01rid of players,
02:02because I don't disagree with you on that standpoint.
02:05But what's interesting about it is, I love when fans, I'm not saying you, because I don't think you said
02:09this.
02:10I like when, I'm typically, 99% of the time, a pro player guy.
02:15I don't like this Bruce Meyer guy, because I know for a fact that three years ago,
02:20he was the driving force to try to make sure there was no baseball.
02:23And as a fan, like you are of the Phillies, and I am of the New York baseball teams,
02:28right now I'm a Fugazi Yankee fan, but you get the point.
02:31Why would I ever want to support a guy who is quite clearly on the record
02:36as being in favor of a work stoppage of some kind, whatever you want to call that work stoppage,
02:42a lockout, a strike.
02:43For you and I as fans, if there's no baseball, we lose.
02:48The amount of money the guys make has no impact on me as a fan who wants to go to
02:55the ballpark
02:55five times a year, watch a few games, and obviously stay at home and root for my favorite team,
03:00whatever that team might be, is on TV.
03:03So I can't support any proposal, to be honest with you, from a guy that I know as a fact
03:10has an ulterior motive to make sure there's no baseball.
03:14This clown believes by shutting the sport down, that's the only leverage the players have.
03:21I'm not even sure exactly what it is that the players want, other than free market society,
03:26make as much money as possible.
03:28Obviously, I support that, you're going to support that, we should support that,
03:31we're capitalists, and we're Americans.
03:34But the reality is that the free market society only works if everybody participating in it
03:42believes in it.
03:43So if you have five or six teams that believe in, I've got the money, I can write the check,
03:49and that gives me the best chance to win, that's great.
03:52But if 24 other teams are like, I don't want to write that check,
03:55I'd rather sit back, be non-competitive, and have those teams stroke me a check,
04:00because at the end of the day, it's money in my personal pocket, I find that problematic.
04:05But my biggest thing, without even getting to the weeds on,
04:08this offer is better than that offer is,
04:10why would I ever support a guy whose main stance,
04:14and this is well documented, based on the last time they negotiated a few years ago,
04:18whose main selling point to the players is,
04:21we're going to not play.
04:22I don't know why anyone would support that.
04:25I don't know why the players at all,
04:27I understand why the rich guys don't give a rat's ass,
04:29but I don't know why the union collectively would ever allow a guy
04:33pitch them on the notion of,
04:35it's in our best interest not to play baseball.
04:38and it's in our best interest not to play baseball.
04:38All right.
