00:00This isn't just about us.
00:02Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're exploring the hidden details and possible theories that you may have missed from the
00:07trailer for the second season of the animated show, X-Men 97.
00:10Heads up, there will be some spoilers from the series.
00:13I must strike them at their most vulnerable.
00:19Gambit's return? Well, straight in with a season 1 spoiler.
00:22The name's Gambit, or not me.
00:37Remember it.
00:38Arguably the standout saddest moment from the debut series was Remy LeBeau's heroic sacrifice.
00:43Following the horrific sentinel attack on Genosha, Gambit gave his life to destroy the threat, saving untold lives.
00:50Ever since, Rogue struggled with her grief, especially her guilt over her romance with Magneto.
00:55Season 2 is set to continue Rogue's struggle.
00:57It's hard to believe.
01:01What's not waiting for me?
01:04However, the heavy opening in the trailer going over Gambit's tail, and the brief scene of Rogue clutching a Queen
01:09of Hearts card, which seemingly belonged to Remy, and her approaching a purple, Gambit-esque light, gave the impression that
01:15the raging Cajun may not be out permanently.
01:18After all, X-Men comics fans know that mutants kicking the bucket is very rarely forever.
01:23Remember it.
01:24The Savage Land?
01:26If you've ever dreamed of seeing dinosaurs alongside your mutant heroes, that looks to be on the horizon.
01:31In the Season 2 trailer, we get a brief glimpse at an attacking Tyrannosaurus Rex.
01:35Yet, rather than being a random dino wrecking havoc, this suggests we'll have to see the X-Men 97 interpretation
01:41of the Savage Land, having previously featured in the 90s X-Men the animated series.
01:47In the Marvel Universe, over in Antarctica, is this prehistoric location that's separated from the rest of society.
01:59It has its ancient ecosystem intact, including extinct creatures, such as saber-toothed tigers, and dinosaurs.
02:06Considering they're essentially the protectors of the Savage Land, we'll probably see Kezar, Zabu, and Shanna the She-Devil pop
02:12up on our screens again.
02:14Kezar!
02:17I knew you would come for us.
02:19Shanna!
02:20The Apocalypse and Cable parallels.
02:23Batman and Joker, Superman and Lex Luthor, Spider-Man and Green Goblin.
02:27The X-Men universe has its own hero and super-villain connection that'll forever be tied to each other.
02:32Cable and Apocalypse.
02:35Carnival mutant.
02:37You dare challenge Apocalypse again?
02:41With Season 2 involving multiple time periods, including in the past with En-Saba-Nur growing into the blue baddie,
02:47and the future with Apocalypse controlling everything, these two characters share a similar trajectory.
02:52The X-Men are scattered through time.
02:55In the past, from the start of Apocalypse's reign.
02:59After all, we'll see both a young Cable and Apocalypse as they become the mutants they're destined to be.
03:04We'll also witness them in their older primes, forever battling against each other for their contrasting goals as Cable fights
03:11to set humanity free from Apocalypse.
03:13Go on. Take your best shot. You'll never win.
03:18Never win? Insect?
03:25Blink and you'll miss it Deadpool.
03:26Well, he's been tied to the X-Men since making his comic debut in one of their books.
03:30Deadpool isn't a mutant.
03:32When will he grow up and see benefits of becoming X-Men?
03:35Which benefits? The matching unitards? The house that blows up every few years?
03:39Please, house blowing up builds character.
03:42Instead, he's technically a mutate, which, while that sounds like splitting hairs, means he hasn't always been welcomed into the
03:49mutant crew.
03:49You know, for a second there, it felt like we were three mini-lion robots coming together to form one
03:54super robot.
03:55There's a stupid...
03:57Yet the original X-Men the Animated Series did nod to Wade Wilson by having him make a couple of
04:01cameos,
04:02including the time a brainwashed Morph changed into Deadpool briefly to fight Wolverine.
04:06Well, in the Season 2 trailer, if you even glanced away for a split second,
04:10you may have missed Morph transforming into Wade again.
04:13Could this be opening the door for Deadpool to feature properly in the show?
04:16We certainly hope so.
04:17Besides, we're X-Men.
04:19No. You're X-People.
04:22You're X-Soisting.
04:23The Brood?
04:24Since we mentioned that brief Deadpool glimpse,
04:26we can't ignore the possible baddie that Morph was seemingly fighting in that trailer moment.
04:30After all, it looks like he's battling the Brood,
04:33an alien species that infects people to host their offspring.
04:40Which eventually controls their body.
04:42The Brood draws a big resemblance to the Alien franchise.
04:45X-Men the Animated Series did feature a cameo appearance of the Brood in the episode Mojo Vision.
04:50Yet when the episode Love in Vain called for an alien species that infects hosts and takes them over,
04:54instead of being Brood, the colony was invented,
04:57reportedly to make them more animator-friendly.
04:59What determination!
05:01What vigor!
05:02Just as we expected!
05:04Hopefully, X-Men 97 will restore the creepy species back to their terrifying best.
05:14The debut characters.
05:16Oh boy.
05:17Even in a less than two-minute trailer,
05:19it was jam-packed with cameos from characters that may make their X-Men 97 debuts.
05:24I believe some introduction is in order.
05:27Polaris was heavily featured,
05:29leading to the suggestion that Magneto's daughter will play a big role in the season.
05:32We also saw a lot of the super-powerful Exodus,
05:35who only had non-speaking cameos in the first season.
05:42Another introduction was Colossus,
05:45who was seen grieving the fall of someone,
05:47likely his sister, Magic,
05:48since her photo was on the memorial wall alongside Remy.
05:51Other characters the trailer showed included Iceman,
05:54Angel-slash-Archangel,
05:56Psylocke,
05:56Danger,
05:57Chamber,
05:58Frenzy,
05:59Quentin Quire,
06:00and Cinch.
06:01We can only imagine this is just a taster for the character set to appear.
06:04Check the headlines, Mr. President.
06:06They're all about the virtue of patience.
06:09Jean Grey's claws.
06:11In the first season,
06:12we saw an impressive combination of powers that we'd never seen before,
06:15with Gambit igniting Wolverine's claws with his kinetic energy.
06:23It, very understandably,
06:25set the internet ablaze with excitement.
06:27Well,
06:27Season 2 is going to have another impressive combo.
06:30This time,
06:31we have Jean Grey using her telekinesis to form Wolverine claws
06:34that Cyclops uses to scatter his optic blast
06:37to strike multiple targets.
06:46Genius.
06:47Another interesting note in that scene
06:49was that the duo was wearing their costumes from the 2001 New X-Men comics run,
06:53which redesigned the mutants to be more modern,
06:55with yellow and black leather.
06:57Is it a time jump from the 90s,
06:59or just a fun reference?
07:00We'll have to wait and see.
07:01You think Peacock can make you old again?
07:04Think it rebuilds your past?
07:07If so truly,
07:08you did not think at all.
07:11Sinister.
07:12All I do is think.
07:14Wolverine gets his adamantium back.
07:17Finally,
07:18this feud
07:20is
07:21over!
07:23One of the most shocking moments in Season 1
07:26was the nod towards the iconic comic story,
07:28Fatal Attractions,
07:29when Magneto made the obvious,
07:31yet brutal decision to pull the metal from Wolverine's bones.
07:34No!
07:35Magnus!
07:36For the love of God,
07:37don't do this!
07:38In the comics,
07:39it took years for Logan to get the adamantium back,
07:42as he devolved into a no less feral human
07:44before Apocalypse stuffed the metal back in.
07:46However,
07:47the trailers showed Wolverine pop his claws,
07:50which were coated in the shiny material,
07:52instead of being just bone.
07:53So at some point,
07:54he's going to get the adamantium back,
07:56which kind of takes the anticipation of way
07:58of wondering how Logan will be free to go through metal detectors,
08:01but it does make us wonder if Apocalypse will help him out again.
08:04So much pain, my children.
08:11So much death.
08:14The Wolverine cover homage.
08:16In 1982,
08:18Logan got his first solo comic,
08:19which expanded on his history and ties to Japan.
08:22Fatal!
08:24And the cover for the first issue,
08:26which was drawn by the legendary Frank Miller,
08:29who also did the interiors,
08:30has since become one of the character's most famous depictions.
08:33So in a sort of post-credits scene
08:35that Marvel has become synonymous with,
08:37the trailer,
08:38after announcing the season's release date,
08:40ended with an homage to this famous cover.
08:48In the same costume as the cover without the mask,
08:51Logan beckons the viewers,
08:53seemingly,
08:53as he holds up his claws
08:55and celebrates being back.
08:56We're back, baby.
08:59The music.
09:01Hands down,
09:02the best part of the X-Men animated series
09:04was the theme music.
09:11Without a lyric,
09:12everyone found themselves
09:13humming the Ron Wasserman-written piece
09:15over and over again
09:16as they went about their daily lives.
09:19When X-Men 97 was being made,
09:21John Andrew Grush and Taylor Newton Stewart,
09:23known as the Newton Brothers,
09:24released their updated version of the theme.
09:36Unsurprisingly,
09:37that was a smashing success too.
09:39Well,
09:40the trailer for season two
09:41also had a variation of the song.
09:42However,
09:43to reflect the more dramatic theme,
09:45the tune was rejigged
09:46into an orchestral piece,
09:47complete with a chorus.
09:55It really worked
09:56in setting up the stakes of the season,
09:57but also reminding us
09:58it's still the X-Men we love.
10:00We stand together.
10:02Right here.
10:04Right now.
10:07Which X-Men-related character
10:08are you hoping will make an appearance
10:09in season two of X-Men 97?
