00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're detailing the Russell Brand verdict, examining how a
00:06series of disturbing allegations against the comedian and actor escalated into a criminal
00:12trial and what the jury ultimately decided.
00:30For years, Russell Brand built a reputation as one of Britain's most provocative entertainers.
00:37With his distinctive appearance, often outrageous humor, and outspoken personality, Brand became
00:43a household name through stand-up comedy, television, and radio presenting, before crossing
00:49over into Hollywood with films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek.
00:58But his public image would soon face a devastating reckoning.
01:03Concerns about Russell Brand's behavior began to surface in 2014 with an account of alleged
01:09abuse published in a book.
01:11Another allegation was reportedly raised with Brand's literary agent in 2020.
01:16But in September 2023, the story exploded.
01:23That's when the Sunday Times and The Times published a joint investigation, while Channel 4 broadcast
01:29a dispatcher's documentary titled, Russell Brand in Plain Sight.
01:45Together they detailed damning allegations from four women.
01:49Other women also described alleged abusive and inappropriate behavior from the funny man.
01:55The night before the doc went live, Brand posted a video denying the accusations.
02:00While acknowledging his history of promiscuity, he insisted all his sexual relationships had
02:06been consensual.
02:14The reports prompted the Metropolitan Police to launch an investigation, and more women subsequently
02:20came forward.
02:22And so, in April 2025, the Crown Prosecution Service authorized five charges involving four
02:29women relating to alleged incidents between 1999 and 2005.
02:35Two further charges involving two additional women were authorized in December 2025, bringing
02:41the total to seven.
02:43two further charges to the public.
02:44And so, I did not apply enough consideration, barely any I suppose, really, to how that sex
02:51was affecting other people.

03:05I feel blessed.
03:06I feel, of course, concerned, but hopeful that this process will lead to good outcomes for
03:15everybody involved.
03:16The trial.
03:17I was speaking to his dad yesterday, who said that this whole affair has been hanging over
03:22the family like a cloud.
03:25This has not gone the way that they thought it would go, has it?
03:29No, no, no.
03:29I suppose if they had a glimmer of hope, it was that Russell Brand would at least get bail.
03:34The case went before London's Southwark Crown Court, where Brand pleaded not guilty to all
03:40seven charges.
03:41Over the course of four weeks, the prosecution and defense presented two very different accounts
03:46of what happened.
03:48Prosecutors argued that Brand had used his celebrity status and influence to exploit women, portraying
03:54him as manipulative and entitled.
04:09They described a pattern in which charm and attention allegedly gave way to aggression when
04:15women resisted his advances.
04:17All six complaints testified, with the jury also hearing from other witnesses.
04:22The alleged incidents took place in different settings, including a radio station, a video
04:28recording set, and Brand's home.
04:30The scale of the investigation was considerable.
04:33Police interviewed more than 100 witnesses, gathered over 400 statements, and reviewed more
04:39than 1,400 documents.
04:42This all came about after media reports back in 2023 had made these allegations, having spoken
04:48to a number of these alleged victims.
04:50The police then investigated, and then in April this year decided that they would charge.
04:55Investigators also examined hundreds of hours of Brand's television appearances, interviews,
05:01comedy performances, and podcasts to help establish timelines and assess the evidence.
05:06Brand, however, took the stand in his own defense, acknowledging his history of promiscuity and
05:12reckless sexual behavior.
05:13But he maintained the encounters were consensual.
05:17His lawyers challenged the complainant's accounts, questioning their reliability and arguing that the
05:23passage of time, along with the publicity surrounding the 2023 investigation, had affected
05:29how the encounters were remembered and described.
05:51Ultimately, the jury had to assess each charge individually and be certain of the defendant's
05:57guilt.
05:58The verdict
05:59After approximately eight and a half hours of deliberations, the jury delivered its verdict
06:05on November 5, 2026.
06:08He deliberated for more than eight hours over two days, and in court today the judge did
06:12say that he would receive a prison term.
06:15Now a court prosecutor called Brand, quote, a ruthless, calculating, manipulative sexual predator.
06:21Brand was found guilty of one count involving forced sexual activity and three counts of sexual
06:28assault involving four women.
06:30But the jury did not convict on every charge.
06:33Brand was acquitted of two further counts involving forced sexual activity, as well as one account
06:39of attempted indecent assault.
06:41In total, he was convicted of four of the seven offenses he faced at trial.
06:45Following the verdict, the Crown Prosecution Service emphasized that fame and status do
06:50not change the fundamental importance of consent.
06:54The Metropolitan Police also praised the women for their courage in coming forward, particularly
06:59given the personal and public scrutiny involved in taking part in such a high-profile trial.
07:04For Brand, the outcome is now far more than a public relations disaster.
07:09He has been convicted of four serious sexual offenses and faces the prospect of a prison
07:15sentence.
07:16Which brings us to, what's next?
07:31Russell Brand is scheduled to return to Southwark Crown Court on November 9, 2026, for sentencing.
07:37While the exact length of his prison term has yet to be determined, following the verdict,
07:42the judge told Russell that his convictions would inevitably result in a significant custodial
07:48term.
07:49He also rejected Brand's request for bail, remanding him into custody until sentencing.
07:54And the legal troubles may not be over.
07:57Police investigations into two further allegations involving Brand are continuing, with the Metropolitan
08:03Police confirming that files have been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration.
08:09No additional charges have been confirmed, and these allegations remain separate from the
08:14offenses for which he has already been convicted.
08:17Beyond the courtroom, the convictions also cast a long shadow over Brand's future in show
08:22business.
08:22His career once spanned stand-up comedy, television, radio, and blockbuster films.
08:28In more recent years, he reinvented himself as an online personality, building an audience
08:34through independent commentary and podcasts.
08:37But with four criminal convictions now on his record, a return to mainstream entertainment
08:42looks increasingly unlikely.
08:53His professional reputation and public standing have been fundamentally altered, and while sentencing
08:59will determine the immediate consequences, the fallout from this case could continue for
09:04years to come.
