Since a manhunt ended with the arrest of Luigi Mangione for the alleged murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in late 2024, he’s almost reached celebrity status. He even has his own fanclub – girls who make their way into his court hearings.
Unlike many killers, the unique qualities of Mangione’s case – including his own manifesto – have received a surprisingly warm reception by some. In addition to providing an update on his trials, we’ll unpack his public reception a bit in this episode.
To end the show, we’ll touch on one of the most famous celebrity murder cases, the OJ Simpson trial. Mark Fuhrman, a police officer whose infamous, televised, testimony was a key feature of the trial, died this week, and Audacy stations reflected back on how it impacted the eventual verdict.
Featuring audio from The Dave Glover Show out of KMOX in St. Louis, Jason DeRusha and Chad Hartman out of WCCO News Talk in the Twin Cities and the Dana & Parks Show out of KMBZ in Kansas City.

01:18This is a true crime roundup from the On Deadline podcast.
01:22We dive into crime stories covered by Odyssey's radio newsrooms from coast to coast.
01:27I'm your host, Lauren Berry.
01:30Today, we're looking into crime and fame.
01:32They have an uncomfortable relationship.
01:35While the public wants and needs to know about crimes,
01:40the criminals themselves can actually chase the attention that comes with committing a crime.
01:47Some crimes are so bizarre that it's inevitable that they'll become headline news.
01:53And sometimes, criminals are already famous by the time they go down a violent path.
01:59In all of these circumstances, increased attention can change the way criminal investigations play out.
02:08On Monday, May 18, 2026,
02:12two teen shooters arrived at the Islamic Center of San Diego
02:16and shot three people dead, according to authorities.
02:20After the tragedy unfolded, the suspects reportedly shot and killed themselves.
02:26Investigators have discovered a manifesto that they believe was written by the shooters.
02:31It indicates that they were at least partly motivated by another shooter who made headlines in recent years.
02:38We'll be taking a closer look at that case and its relationship to online culture,
02:44including the glorification of mass shooters and more,
02:48in this episode with expert interviews.
02:55Another story we'll be looking into is the Mangione case in New York.
02:59Since a manhunt ended with the arrest of Luigi Mangione
03:03for the alleged murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in late 2024,
03:10Mangione has reached almost celebrity status.
03:13He even has his own fan club,
03:16girls who make their way into his court hearings.
03:19Unlike many accused killers,
03:22the unique qualities of Mangione's case,
03:25including his own manifesto,
03:27have received a surprisingly warm reception by some.
03:31In addition to providing an update on his trials,
03:34we'll unpack his public reception a bit in this episode.
03:38To end the show,
03:40we'll touch on one of the most famous celebrity murder cases,
03:44the O.J. Simpson trial.
03:47Mark Furman,
03:48a police officer whose infamous testimony was a key feature of the trial,
03:53died this week.
03:55And Odyssey stations reflected back on how it impacted the eventual verdict.
04:01But first,
04:02we're catching up with quick dispatches from across the country.
04:06Just to note,
04:07these are developing crimes,
04:09and information can evolve as investigations move forward.
04:13This week,
04:14our quick roundups are all linked to suspects or victims in their teens or early 20s.
04:20Here's a Tuesday,
04:22May 19th report from Odyssey station,
04:25KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia.
04:30A 17-year-old is charged with manslaughter after police say she stabbed her newborn to death
04:36shortly after giving birth nearly a month ago.
04:38We have to warn you,
04:39the following story contains graphic violence.
04:42KYW's Matt Coughlin has more.
04:44In court records,
04:45the baby is referred to as Jane Doe.
04:47Authorities say she was born about 11 on the morning of April 25th
04:51in the shower of her grandmother's apartment on North American Street in Northern Liberties.
04:56The baby's 17-year-old mother is charged with voluntary manslaughter.
04:59She was arraigned and released from police custody on Monday,
05:02nearly a month after the baby's birth and death.
05:05Investigators say the teen told paramedics she tore out the umbilical cord
05:08and stabbed the newborn to death with scissors before putting her in a bedroom closet.
05:12Emergency personnel were called shortly before 1 that afternoon,
05:15and within minutes,
05:16the baby was pronounced dead.
05:17According to court records,
05:18the teen told paramedics she never told her mother about the pregnancy,
05:21and when the baby was born in the shower that morning,
05:23she was scared.
05:24Paramedics told investigators that while they were in the apartment,
05:27the teen talked about killing herself.
05:29A hearing is tentatively scheduled for June 1st.
05:31It is unclear if she is receiving mental health or medical treatment.
05:34The district attorney's office has not yet responded to a request for comment.
05:37Another report from KYW is an update to a shooting
05:41that was reportedly a case of mistaken identity.
05:45One of the suspects wanted in the shooting death of a 20-year-old woman
05:48last month in West Philadelphia has been caught.
05:50Here's KYW's crime and justice reporter, Kristen Johansson.
05:52Law enforcement arrested 21-year-old Zaire Manning for the murder of Imani Ringgold,
05:56who was gunned down while walking back to her job after getting pizza.
06:00It happened April 7th along 59th and Market Streets,
06:03and police believe she was mistaken for being a member of a group hanging at that corner.
06:07Authorities say they learned Manning was in an apartment in the city's Morton neighborhood
06:11along Green Street, hiding out,
06:13and that's where they arrested him without any issue.
06:16Another suspect, 26-year-old Mustafa King,
06:18has still not been caught,
06:19and officials are out looking for him.
06:21They hope anyone who knows where he is will call him with a tip,
06:24even if they remain anonymous.
06:26At 215-686-TIPS,
06:28there's a total of a $25,000 reward being offered by both the marshals
06:32and the Philly police,
06:33leading to the arrest and conviction of King
06:35and other suspects believed to be connected,
06:38but who have not yet been identified.
06:39In Minneapolis, Minnesota,
06:42Odyssey Station WCCO News Talk reported that two women,
06:47one age 18 and another age 19,
06:50were arrested in St. Paul by Minneapolis police on Tuesday
06:54in connection to the death of a 38-year-old man in Minneapolis.
06:59Both women were being held on probable cause murder
07:03in the Hennepin County Jail at the time of this report.
07:08Both women were arrested yesterday on the 1,000 block of Kingsford Street
07:12in St. Paul by the Minneapolis Police Violent Criminal Apprehension Team,
07:15a specialized tactical unit tasked with locating, tracking,
07:18and apprehending individuals wanted for crimes like murder.
07:2238-year-old Amos Ferrier died Sunday from injuries suffered
07:26during that attempted car theft last Friday
07:28where police say Ferrier was either hit by the car
07:31or jumped onto the hood as the suspects tried to get away.
07:33Ferrier was an army medic in Afghanistan
07:36and was credited with saving multiple lives.
07:41In New York, Odyssey Station 1010 Winds reported
07:45on a fatal shooting incident involving two teens.
07:49A teenager arrested in connection to the murder of a 15-year-old boy
07:53in St. Albans, Queens last month.
07:54It was a story that grabbed the city back in April.
07:57Jaden Pierre, just 15, his last moments defenseless
08:01at Roy Wilkins Park.
08:03Jaden was on the ground.
08:04He was dragged to the ground, returned to his feet,
08:06his back against defense, and was hit again.
08:09Queens DA Melinda Katz there.
08:11She says the shooter...
08:12Zaheer Davis, as we allege in our indictments,
08:14brought out a gun from a bag and shot him, and he was killed.
08:17Well, now he's facing a slew of charges,
08:19including murder and gang assault.
08:21Before police found him, though, he fled to Jamaica.
08:23But I will tell you that he's here.
08:25He's facing charges.
08:26He'll face accountability for this.
08:27If Davis is convicted, he's looking at about 25 years to life in prison.
08:31He's currently 18.

09:47In San Diego, California,
09:50two teens identified by authorities
09:52as 18-year-old Caleb Liam Vasquez
09:55and 17-year-old Kane Lee Clark
09:58allegedly parked in the lot of the Islamic Center of San Diego
10:02and shot 51-year-old security guard Amin Abdullah
10:07as they tried to run inside the building on Monday.
10:11Abdullah managed to initiate lockdown protocols at the mosque,
10:15and the two suspects allegedly ran through empty rooms
10:18until they left through a back door.
10:21Vasquez and Clark allegedly found 78-year-old Mansoor Keziah
10:26and 57-year-old Nadir Awad.
10:29Authorities say the teens shot at the men and killed them.
10:32After driving around the neighborhood and shooting at a gardener,
10:36they reportedly shot and killed themselves.
10:39An investigation into the tragedy has revealed
10:42that they probably met and were radicalized online.
10:46It's also been revealed that they apparently had numerous weapons,
10:50including pistols, rifles, shotguns, and a crossbow,
10:55as well as ammunition and tactical gear.
10:58An online manifesto that has been linked to the shooters
11:02referenced the Christchurch shooter in New Zealand
11:06who killed 51 people at mosques in 2019.
11:10It also referenced Peyton Gendron,
11:12the alleged perpetrator of a 2022 mass shooting
11:16at a Topps grocery store in Buffalo, New York.
11:20Gendron also penned a manifesto.
11:23According to Montclair State University,
11:26there were 38 references to mass shooters
11:28in the 75-page manifesto
11:31linked to the San Diego mosque shooters.
11:34There were also 11 to the, quote,
11:37great replacement white supremacist conspiracy theory.
11:41Researchers from Montclair noted
11:43that the San Diego shooters manifesto
11:45mimics the form and content of Gendron's.
11:49Crime and terrorism analyst Brad Garrett
11:51joined the show A New Morning
11:54out of Odyssey Station WBEN News and Talk in Buffalo
11:58this week to discuss how mass shooters
12:01influence each other.
12:04And Brad, the real parallels
12:08that people are drawing
12:10as we learn more information
12:11to the racist attack
12:13that happened here in Buffalo
12:14back just four years ago.
12:17And it is kind of chilling
12:19to see how similar
12:22these attackers were
12:25and some of the other details
12:27around these shootings.
12:30It's not uncommon
12:31for mass shooters
12:34to emulate other mass shooters
12:36because there's,
12:38from their perspective,
12:41Brian, you know,
12:41this is sort of,
12:42they're hitting sort of the glory part
12:44or the high point of their life
12:46when they commit these shootings,
12:48as odd as that sounds.
12:53Supposedly, in write-ups
12:54that have been found online,
12:55I think there's 75 pages
12:57that most believe,
13:00I think the police included,
13:02came from these two teenagers.
13:04They talked at length
13:06about the Christchurch, New Zealand mass shooter
13:11who killed 51 people
13:13in two different mosques.
13:14They reference him several times,
13:17but they also reference your shooting.
13:20And again,
13:22driven by hatred
13:24towards certain groups.
13:27Now, what's a little interesting
13:29about these two teenagers
13:30is that their list
13:32seems to be even broader
13:33than perhaps these other two mass shootings
13:35I just mentioned,
13:37where, you know,
13:38they're basically against folks
13:40of the Jewish faith,
13:41the Muslim faith,
13:43folks that are gay.
13:44I mean, it goes,
13:45their list is really expansive
13:47because it's kind of like
13:48everyone that doesn't fit
13:51from their perspective,
13:52their definition of white
13:54is, you know,
13:56shouldn't be here.
13:58And so,
14:00you know,
14:00you get to a situation
14:01where they have decided
14:03at some point,
14:04I'm going to guess
14:05sometime back
14:06that they're going to commit
14:07some act like this.
14:08And we,
14:09you know,
14:09the three of us
14:10could talk at length
14:11about,
14:11you know,
14:12what they were doing online,
14:14the access to weapons,
14:16all the things
14:16that sort of play into
14:17what leads these
14:19typically young boys
14:21or younger boys
14:22to commit these acts.
14:24They seem to have
14:25all those elements.
14:26It strikes me
14:28in their life.
14:29The Buffalo shooter
14:31had posted
14:32in his manifesto
14:33about the
14:34great replacement theory.
14:36Brad,
14:36he cited
14:37fears about
14:38a shrinking
14:39white population.
14:40And it's
14:41chillingly similar
14:43with this attack
14:44Monday in San Diego.
14:46Right.
14:46As I mentioned earlier,
14:47Susan,
14:48big copycat
14:49aspect
14:50to these folks.
14:52And,
14:55well,
14:56let's face it,
14:56if you're going to go
14:57commit something like this,
14:59they're typically proud
15:00about what they're
15:02about to do
15:03or have done.
15:06and most of them
15:07know that it's
15:08a suicide mission
15:09or they turn it
15:10into a suicide mission
15:11when they commit it.
15:12In this case,
15:14according to law enforcement,
15:16they shot each other
15:19in their car
15:20shortly after
15:22the shooting
15:23at the mosque.
15:24They attempted,
15:25I guess,
15:25to shoot
15:26at a person
15:27working in a yard,
15:28missed him,
15:29thankfully,
15:30and then drove
15:31another block or two
15:32and shot themselves.
15:33So,
15:34you know,
15:35it's a high point
15:37for them.
15:37This is like,
15:38we feel empowered
15:41to go do this
15:42and we're going
15:44to go do it.
15:44And they obviously
15:46sadly did
15:46on Monday.
15:48The,
15:49that live streaming
15:50aspect
15:51of both
15:52of these shootings
15:54too,
15:54it really leads
15:55to the question
15:56of,
15:56I mean,
15:56we might have
15:57looked at this
15:58before,
15:58Brad,
15:59as just
16:00another disturbing
16:02detail
16:02in a disturbing
16:03crime.
16:04But now,
16:06you know,
16:06as we see this
16:06more and more,
16:07is it,
16:09I don't know,
16:10drawing people
16:11to this?
16:12Is it a
16:12contributing factor,
16:14the fact that
16:15they can
16:15put this
16:17on the internet?
16:18I think
16:20some would tell
16:21you,
16:21and myself
16:22included,
16:23that it
16:24lets them
16:25control the
16:25narrative.
16:26If you think
16:27about
16:30that you're
16:31going to
16:31potentially die,
16:33or will die,
16:35in committing
16:35this act,
16:36but you want
16:37the world to
16:38know what you
16:38think is important
16:39and what needs
16:41to have focus
16:41on it,
16:42then you live
16:43stream it.
16:44like your
16:44guy in Buffalo,
16:46like the
16:47Christ Church,
16:48New Zealand
16:48shooter,
16:49we can name
16:49off another,
16:50a number of
16:51these folks
16:51who live
16:53streamed,
16:53also put
16:54stuff online
16:55before they
16:55actually committed
16:56the act,
16:58because they
16:58want us all
16:59to know that
17:00they think
17:01they're in the
17:02right here,
17:02and that
17:03something needs
17:04to be done
17:06about this
17:07whole issue
17:08of folks
17:08that are
17:10defined by
17:11them as
17:12not being
17:13white.
17:15When someone
17:16holds that
17:16much hate,
17:17shouldn't
17:18people notice?
17:19But I mean,
17:20at the same
17:21time,
17:21realistically,
17:22what can
17:23you do?
17:24Well,
17:26I think
17:27people do
17:28notice,
17:29but harboring
17:31hate and
17:33saying that's
17:34against the
17:35law are two
17:36different things.
17:37until you
17:38have information
17:39about somebody
17:40that's actually
17:41planning an
17:42attack.
17:43And even
17:44in this
17:44case,
17:45Susan,
17:47one of the
17:48moms called
17:49law enforcement
17:50and said,
17:51my son has
17:51left the
17:52house with a
17:52bunch of
17:53weapons,
17:53he's in
17:54my car,
17:55he and his
17:55friend have
17:56on camouflage,
17:57he's suicidal.
17:59I mean,
17:59it's everything
17:59you don't want
18:00to hear in
18:00law enforcement
18:01as to this
18:02is going to
18:02turn into
18:03something
18:03potentially.
18:04And so
18:05they desperately
18:06go and
18:06to locations
18:08where they
18:08think they
18:08might be
18:09until they
18:10get a radio
18:10call,
18:11obviously,
18:11that there's
18:12a shooting
18:13at a mosque
18:14and then
18:15realize it's
18:16one and the
18:16same,
18:18two teenagers.
18:20But,
18:21yeah,
18:21and what do
18:22you do
18:23about this?
18:24It's kind
18:25of like,
18:26you know,
18:27we've developed
18:28massive use of
18:29cell phones,
18:30massive use of
18:30social media,
18:32media,
18:33but then we
18:34think later
18:34about the
18:35repercussions
18:35of all of
18:36that or the
18:37excessive use
18:37of both of
18:38those,
18:39particularly on
18:40vulnerable,
18:40you know,
18:41young kids.
18:44And how do
18:45you put that
18:46back in the
18:47bottle?
18:47I'm not sure
18:48you do,
18:49and it's a
18:50real dilemma.
18:51Social psychologists
18:52would tell you
18:52that both of
18:53these have become
18:54so toxic for
18:55kids who
18:55excessively use
18:56their phones
18:58and stay
18:59on social
18:59media hours
19:00at a time
19:03will affect
19:04them the rest
19:05of their lives.

20:05A New Morning
20:07interviewed Rich
20:08Frankel, former
20:09special agent in
20:10charge of the
20:11FBI in New
20:12York.
20:13Is there a
20:14better way to
20:15monitor these
20:16live streams on
20:17social media?
20:19Yeah, you
20:20know, I'm
20:21sure there's
20:22going to be an
20:22outcry on
20:24this one.
20:27what we've
20:27seen in the
20:28past, and
20:28this goes
20:29historical,
20:30it goes back
20:31before live
20:31streaming, of
20:32course, to
20:32where they
20:33just would
20:33videotape it
20:34and then
20:35post it, or
20:36they would
20:36post beforehand,
20:37and then there
20:38would be
20:39information put
20:40out after,
20:41you know,
20:41whether other
20:41people were
20:42videotaping it,
20:43or then you
20:44went to the
20:45live stream.
20:46You see that
20:47these types of
20:48shooters, their
20:49goal is to do
20:50more damage than
20:51the ones before
20:52them.
20:53It's almost
20:53like a
20:54competition to
20:54them.
20:55You know, if
20:55somebody killed
20:56three people,
20:57they want to
20:57kill five.
20:58If somebody
20:58used a fully
20:59automatic weapon,
21:00somebody wants
21:00to use two of
21:01those.
21:01And so they
21:02want to show
21:03how much
21:03better they
21:04are, and so
21:04that's why
21:05you're seeing
21:05a lot of
21:06these live
21:06streams.
21:07And, you
21:08know, the
21:09FBI has been
21:10looking into
21:10that through
21:11behavioral sciences
21:12for years to
21:13figure out, is
21:14there some way
21:15that, you
21:16know, working
21:16with the online
21:17providers or
21:18others, that
21:19this can be
21:19blocked because
21:20that could be
21:21part of the
21:23methodology to
21:24stop these
21:25types of
21:27attacks.
21:28Not that they
21:28would completely
21:29stop, but maybe
21:30if there's no
21:31more of this
21:32advertising, more
21:34of this competition
21:34online, that
21:36some of the
21:37people would
21:37not be as
21:40aggressive or,
21:41you know,
21:43desire that
21:44notoriety.
21:45You're hitting
21:46on it right
21:47there.
21:47I mean, has
21:48this gone
21:48now from
21:49something where
21:50you might have
21:51said in the
21:51past, just a
21:53disturbing thing
21:54that a disturbed
21:55person did was,
21:57you know, in
21:57addition to this
21:59horrible crime,
22:00also videotaped it
22:01to now where
22:02it's something that
22:03might play a
22:04role in
22:04encouraging
22:05somebody to
22:06do such a
22:07thing?
22:08Yeah, you
22:09know, one of
22:09the things that
22:10I had always been
22:10taught, you
22:11know, when I
22:11was a negotiator
22:12and then when we
22:13started investigating
22:14these types of
22:15crimes, you never
22:16mention their name
22:17again.
22:17You know, you
22:18say the
22:19assailant, the
22:19terrorist, you
22:20know, you do
22:22as little as
22:23possible to
22:24actually mention
22:25their name
22:26because what
22:27you don't want
22:27to do is say
22:29that this guy
22:30was the worst
22:31or the best
22:32because to them
22:33the worst might
22:34be the best.
22:34So you do
22:37what you can
22:38to make this
22:38as anonymous
22:40as possible.
22:41Of course, it's
22:41going to be
22:41reported.
22:42Of course, it's
22:42going to, you
22:43know, it's a
22:44terrible thing.
22:44You're going to
22:45have memorial
22:46services and
22:47other things,
22:48you know,
22:49associated with
22:50the aftermath.
22:51But one of the
22:52things to do is
22:53just not mention
22:54their names ever
22:55again.
22:56You know, is
22:57this a case
22:58where somebody
23:00knew that
23:00something was
23:01up?
23:01I mean, one
23:02of the suspects
23:02took their
23:03parents' car,
23:04took three of
23:05their guns,
23:05and there's
23:06talk now of
23:07charging the
23:07parents.
23:09Yeah, there
23:10seemed to
23:11be at least
23:13one of the
23:14individuals came
23:14up in prior
23:22conversations with
23:23law enforcement
23:24that somebody
23:25had said that
23:26he appeared
23:27to be spewing
23:30anti-hate crime.
23:31And they went
23:31out and they
23:32interviewed him.
23:32And listen,
23:33sometimes there's
23:34not much you
23:34can do after
23:36the initial
23:36interview if
23:37they're not
23:38committing a
23:38crime.
23:41And then you
23:42have these,
23:42supposedly they
23:43took the three
23:44guns.
23:44But from what
23:45I understand is
23:46that law
23:46enforcement,
23:47FBI has now
23:48searched multiple
23:49locations and
23:50found over 30
23:51guns in a
23:51crossbow.
23:53So, you
23:54know, how did
23:54they collect
23:55these guns?
23:56One, are they
23:56legal?
23:57And if they're
23:57legal, that's
23:58one thing.
23:59If they're
23:59illegal, how
24:00did they get
24:00these guns?
24:01I want to go
24:02back now and
24:03find out where
24:04each one of
24:04these weapons
24:05came from, how
24:06they were
24:06purchased, and
24:07if it was a
24:08crime there, then
24:09those people
24:10need to be
24:11prosecuted.
24:11If there is
24:12no crime, then
24:13why is there
24:14no record or
24:15something just
24:15to show that
24:17somebody has
24:19that many
24:19weapons, if
24:20nothing else
24:21than for
24:21officer safety?
24:24It's tied to
24:25what's being
24:26called nihilistic
24:27violent
24:27extremism.
24:28How disturbing
24:29is that for
24:30you to see
24:32the rise in
24:33crimes described
24:34like this
24:35where, I
24:36mean, it
24:37is exactly
24:38what it
24:38says.
24:39It's just
24:39some person
24:41not tied to
24:42any group
24:43on their
24:44own deciding
24:45to do
24:45this.
24:47Well, to
24:47tell you the
24:48truth, when I
24:51saw that, because
24:52I read the
24:52reports too, that
24:54was not a term
24:54when I was in
24:55the FBI, and I
24:58was in the
24:58terrorism task
24:59force for years.
25:01I had never
25:02heard that term.
25:03I understand the
25:04term.
25:04I understand what
25:05they mean and
25:06all that, but
25:07that is how
25:08things have
25:08changed, is
25:09that that is
25:10now a term
25:11of art in
25:13law enforcement
25:14and in those
25:15who investigate
25:17this and, you
25:18know, study
25:20it.
25:21So it has
25:23gotten that
25:23bad that they
25:24now had to
25:24come up with
25:25their own
25:25term for this
25:26type of
25:27terrorism.
25:27Because to
25:28me, this is
25:28still terrorism.
25:29I know they're
25:29calling it a
25:30hate crime.
25:30It's not a
25:31hate crime when
25:33you go out and
25:34you want to
25:34commit mass
25:35shootings, that
25:37when you're
25:37going around
25:38the school
25:39looking for
25:40the students
25:40to kill
25:41them, and
25:41then when
25:42you can't
25:42find them,
25:43you identify
25:44somebody outside
25:46those two
25:47other individuals,
25:48you go out,
25:49you corner
25:49them, and
25:50you mow
25:50them down.
25:51That's not
25:51hate crime.
25:52That's
25:52terrorism.
25:55Mark
25:55Remily, the
25:56special agent
25:57in charge of
25:58the FBI's
25:59San Diego
25:59field office,
26:01said in a
26:02statement that
26:02the mosque
26:03shooters appeared
26:04to have a
26:04broad hatred
26:05for people of
26:06different races
26:07and religions,
26:08including Islam
26:09and Judaism.
26:11This attack
26:12also comes at
26:13a time of
26:14increased
26:15Islamophobia,
26:16according to
26:17the Council

26:31this week
26:31to discuss
26:32the tragedy
26:33in the context
26:34of this
26:35growing atmosphere
26:36of hate.
26:38You know,
26:39in one story
26:39I read about
26:40the attack
26:41in San Diego,
26:42someone said
26:43it didn't
26:43happen in
26:44a vacuum,
26:44and they
26:45pointed to
26:45years of
26:46what they
26:46described as
26:47fear-mongering,
26:48scapegoating,
26:49and dehumanization
26:50targeting an
26:51entire religious
26:52community.
26:52Wondering if
26:53you could just
26:53discuss that.
26:55Yeah,
26:55that precisely
26:56sort of
26:56characterizes
26:57what's been
26:58happening for
26:58the last 25
26:59years.
27:00You know,
27:01since the
27:01aftermath of
27:02the 9-11
27:03terror attacks,
27:04the war on
27:04terror has
27:05essentially,
27:05you know,
27:06oriented Islam,
27:07the religion,
27:08and Muslims,
27:09the people,
27:10as the
27:10principal enemies
27:11of not only
27:12the state,
27:13but of society
27:14at large.
27:14And we've
27:15seen this
27:16manifested
27:16through law,
27:17policy,
27:18and most
27:18emphatically
27:19recently through
27:20the rhetoric
27:20of, you
27:21know,
27:22politicians,
27:22people like
27:23Pete Hexeth,
27:23Randy Fine
27:24in Florida,
27:25and as high
27:26as the
27:26president.
27:27For the
27:28investigators,
27:29they're going
27:29to try and
27:29figure out
27:30where this
27:30came from.
27:31Was it
27:31exposure online?
27:32Were the
27:33teens active
27:34in spreading
27:34hate?
27:35Were they
27:35actively engaging
27:36with somebody
27:37someplace else
27:38who pushed
27:39them?
27:39I mean,
27:40if it's one
27:40of those,
27:40or it's a
27:41combination of,
27:42I guess it's
27:42easier now to
27:43go and find
27:43hateful stuff
27:44than ever before.
27:45So that
27:45contributes to
27:46people who
27:47will go and
27:48do something
27:48like this,
27:49because they
27:49can go find
27:50somebody to
27:50back up what
27:51they think in
27:51their head.
27:53No,
27:53that's exactly
27:54it.
27:54I mean,
27:55you know,
27:55Islamophobic
27:56rhetoric is
27:56ubiquitous.
27:57It's on
27:58X,
27:58it's on
27:59Instagram,
27:59it's on
27:59TikTok.
28:00If you turn
28:01on the
28:01television,
28:02it's on
28:02CNN,
28:03you know,
28:03across the
28:04political
28:04spectrum,
28:05news media
28:06across the
28:06political
28:06spectrum.
28:07I'm a big
28:08MMA fan.
28:08If you watch
28:09the UFC fight
28:10a couple of
28:10weeks ago,
28:11one of the
28:11main stars,
28:12Sean Strickland,
28:13was echoing
28:14the idea of
28:15banning Muslims.
28:15And we know
28:16that young
28:16demographics,
28:17young men,
28:18like the
28:18teenagers,
28:20who are the
28:20culprits of
28:21the shootings
28:21in San
28:22Diego,
28:22are the
28:23principal
28:23consumers of
28:24that kind
28:24of media.
28:25So,
28:25everywhere you
28:26turn in
28:27modern American
28:28society,
28:28you'll see the
28:30justification
28:30and the
28:31encouragement
28:32of,
28:33you know,
28:34not violence
28:34against Muslims
28:35and Islam
28:36generally,
28:36but the idea
28:37that Islam
28:37and Muslims
28:38are oppositional
28:40to what it
28:41means to be
28:41American.
28:43What would
28:43you like
28:43people to
28:44know about
28:44the Muslim
28:45community?
28:46You know,
28:47that it's
28:47the Muslim
28:47community,
28:48first of all,
28:49as a law
28:50professor,
28:51it's paramount
28:52for me to
28:53illustrate the
28:53idea that the
28:54United States
28:55is built upon
28:56this notion of
28:57free exercise
28:58of religion,
28:58that anybody
28:59and everybody
29:00have the right,
29:00has the liberty
29:01to practice
29:02their faith in
29:02ways that they
29:03see fit,
29:03whatever faith
29:04it is.
29:05So,
29:06that is,
29:06you know,
29:07the quintessential
29:07sort of cornerstone
29:08of what it means
29:09to be American.
29:10Muslims are
29:10diverse.
29:11You know,
29:11our community
29:12is diverse
29:12across racial
29:13lines,
29:15sectarian
29:16and spiritual
29:16lines,
29:17economic lines.
29:18Many Muslims
29:19have been here
29:20for multiple
29:20generations.
29:22One-third
29:22of the enslaved
29:23African population
29:24that built this
29:25country,
29:25practiced Islam.
29:27So,
29:27this notion
29:28that you can
29:28sort of
29:28stereotype Muslims
29:30as immigrants
29:32goes entirely
29:33against facts.
29:35I seem to
29:35remember when I
29:36was a kid,
29:36which now seems
29:37like a long
29:37time ago,
29:38there were
29:38more parents
29:39who would just
29:39take their
29:40kids around
29:40if they
29:41were curious
29:41to synagogues
29:42or mosques
29:43or Catholic
29:43church and
29:44just take them
29:45in there and
29:45let them talk
29:45to people.
29:46Did we get
29:47away from that
29:48for some reason?
29:49I think so,
29:50and I think
29:50your point
29:50earlier about
29:51social media
29:52has really
29:53sort of
29:55severed the
29:56sort of
29:56organic human
29:58interaction
29:58that we had
29:59you know,
29:5910 years ago,
30:0120,
30:0130 years ago
30:02for sure,
30:03that especially
30:04young people
30:04now are siloed
30:05in these sort
30:06of,
30:06you know,
30:07vacuums online
30:08where they're
30:08not interacting
30:09with real
30:09people.
30:10I read a
30:11study from
30:122021,
30:12I believe it
30:13was,
30:13that showed
30:14that only
30:1535% of
30:16Americans
30:17had actually
30:18met a
30:18Muslim.
30:19So if you're
30:20not meeting
30:21real people,
30:21real Muslims,
30:22then it's
30:23really easy
30:23to consume
30:24these negative
30:25misrepresentations
30:26that you see
30:27online and that
30:27you see on
30:28social media,
30:29especially young
30:29people.
30:30in Detroit,
30:31Michigan,
30:32Odyssey Station
30:33WWJ Newsradio
30:35covered a
30:36press conference
30:36held by the
30:37Imams Council
30:38of Michigan
30:39about the
30:40San Diego
30:41tragedy.
30:42Here is
30:43Steve Mustafa
30:44al-Turk,
30:45imam of the
30:45Islamic Organization
30:46of North America,
30:48Iona and Warren,
30:49and co-chair
30:50of the
30:51Imams Council.
30:51When that
30:53horrific event
30:55occurred on
30:56Monday,
30:57we immediately,
30:58we, the
30:59Imams,
31:00the Imams Council,
31:01put out a
31:02press release
31:03strongly condemning
31:04the horrific
31:06active shooting
31:07at the
31:08Islamic Center
31:09in San Diego
31:10that resulted
31:11in the tragic
31:11killing of
31:13three men.
31:14We thank
31:15God that
31:16the school
31:17children,
31:18teachers,
31:19and many
31:19worshippers
31:20at the
31:21Islamic Center
31:21were safely
31:23evacuated
31:24and protected
31:25from further
31:26harm.
31:27At the
31:28same time,
31:29we mourn,
31:31we deeply
31:32mourn the
31:33brutal loss
31:33of the
31:34three victims.
31:36Please
31:37understand,
31:37any attack
31:38on a
31:39house of
31:40worship is
31:40an attack
31:41on the
31:42fundamental
31:43values of
31:45religious freedom,
31:46human dignity,
31:47and peaceful
31:48coexistence.
31:50The
31:51Quran teaches,
31:52the Quran,
31:53the Muslim
31:53holy book
31:53teaches,
31:55the sanctity
31:56of all
31:57houses of
31:58worship
31:58and the
31:59sacredness
32:00of human
32:01life.
32:02God Almighty
32:03said,
32:04in the
32:05Quran,
32:05chapter 22,
32:06had God
32:07not repelled
32:08some people
32:09by means of
32:10others,
32:11monasteries,
32:12churches,
32:13synagogues,
32:14and mosques
32:15and mosques
32:15where God's
32:16name is
32:16mentioned
32:17frequently,
32:18would surely
32:19have been
32:19destroyed.
32:21Regardless
32:22of the
32:23motives
32:24behind this
32:25attack,
32:26violence
32:27against
32:27innocent
32:28people
32:28and houses
32:29of worship
32:30is morally
32:32reprehensible
32:33and entirely
32:35unacceptable.
32:36We pray
32:37for the
32:38victims
32:38and their
32:39families
32:39for healing,
32:40for the
32:41wounded
32:41and traumatized
32:43and for
32:44a future
32:45where all
32:46people may
32:47worship safely
32:48and peacefully
32:48without fear.
32:55Luigi Mangione's
32:57alleged manifesto
32:58and diary
32:59weren't filled
33:00with white
33:00supremacist
33:01conspiracy theories.
33:03Instead,
33:05they were filled
33:05with frustration
33:06about the
33:07health insurance
33:07industry.
33:08According to
33:09CNN,
33:10Mangione's
33:11alleged writings
33:12also indicated
33:13that he intended
33:14to gain
33:14widespread
33:15public support
33:16through allegedly
33:18killing United
33:19Healthcare CEO
33:20Brian Thompson,
33:22a manhunt that
33:23resulted in
33:23Mangione's
33:24capture
33:25did catapult
33:26him into
33:27the spotlight.
33:28He's been
33:29the subject
33:29of countless
33:30memes and
33:31headlines,
33:32and he's
33:33also made
33:34some headway
33:34in the
33:35court of
33:36public opinion.
33:37Late last
33:38year,
33:3981% of
33:40students who
33:41participated
33:41in a poll
33:42by Generation
33:43Lab said
33:44that they
33:45had an
33:45extremely
33:46or somewhat
33:47negative
33:47view of
33:48Thompson,
33:49Mangione's
33:50alleged victim.
33:52When asked
33:53who they
33:53sympathize with
33:54more,
33:55just 17%
33:56said Thompson,
33:58while 45%
33:59said Mangione.
34:00Nearly
34:01half of
34:02the
34:02respondents
34:03said they
34:03thought the
34:04killing was
34:04totally or
34:05somewhat justified.
34:07Mangione has
34:08pleaded not
34:09guilty in
34:10separate state
34:10and federal
34:11cases.
34:12His state
34:13trial includes
34:14murder charges,
34:16and a judge
34:16made a decision
34:17about the
34:18upcoming trial
34:19this week.
34:20Here's
34:20Odyssey Station
34:211010 wins
34:22in New York
34:23City with the
34:24news.
34:24A major
34:25turn seen
34:26by some
34:26as a win
34:27for accused
34:28Midtown
34:29shooter Luigi
34:29Mangione.
34:30The judge
34:30says the
34:31backpack taken
34:31from him
34:32during his
34:32arrest can't
34:33be part of
34:34the court
34:34record.
34:34The judge
34:35telling Luigi
34:35Mangione and
34:36his team of
34:37attorneys that
34:38he's granting
34:39part of their
34:39motion and
34:40denying the
34:41other part.
34:41I find that
34:42the search
34:43of the
34:43backpack at
34:44the McDonald's
34:45was improper,
34:47warrantless
34:47search, that
34:48the backpack
34:48was not within
34:49the immediate
34:50control or
34:51grabable area
34:52of the
34:52defendant.
34:53What will
34:54be suppressed
34:54that they
34:55uncovered at
34:55McDonald's is
34:56the magazine,
34:57cell phone,
34:58passport,
34:59wallet and
34:59computer chip
35:00which was
35:00inside of his
35:01backpack.
35:02But once he
35:02got to the
35:03Altoona police
35:04station and
35:04police uncovered
35:05a gun inside
35:06of his backpack,
35:07that piece of
35:07evidence will
35:08not be suppressed
35:09and will be
35:09allowed to be
35:10used in court.
35:11The next
35:11court conference
35:12will be June
35:133rd and it'll
35:14be virtual.
35:16However, the
35:17judge will allow
35:18a gun and a
35:20notebook prosecutors
35:21claim Link
35:22Mangione to
35:23Thompson's
35:23murder to be
35:25used as
35:25evidence.
35:27Attorney and
35:28legal analyst
35:29Brad Young
35:30joined the
35:31Dave Glover
35:31show out of
35:32Odyssey station
35:33KMOX in
35:34St. Louis to
35:36discuss these
35:36latest developments
35:37this week.
35:38Well, this is
35:40very interesting
35:41and we all
35:41remember Luigi
35:43Mangione, we've
35:44seen the video
35:44where he was
35:45sitting in a
35:45McDonald's, I
35:46think it was in
35:47Pennsylvania, and
35:48the cops come up
35:49to him and he's
35:50got a backpack.
35:51And this is a
35:53great example of
35:54what cops can and
35:55cannot do.
35:57So what, and the
35:59process is very
36:00important here.
36:01The cops go up to
36:02him, talk to him,
36:03identify him as the
36:04guy that's wanted,
36:05they cuff him, and
36:07then they search
36:07his backpack.
36:09Now that's the
36:09procedural problem.
36:10If they would have
36:11talked to him,
36:13searched his
36:13backpack, and then
36:14cuffed him, there
36:15wouldn't have been
36:16any problem.
36:17Why is that a
36:17problem?
36:18Because cops don't
36:19need a warrant to
36:20search any area
36:22that's under your
36:22control because it
36:23might have a gun.
36:24And if it has a
36:25gun, then a police
36:27officer's safety is
36:28at risk.
36:29They can search
36:31it if it's under
36:31your control, but
36:32once they slap
36:33those cuffs on
36:33you and set them
36:35aside, he can no
36:37longer access what's
36:38in the backpack.
36:39So the judge ruled
36:40that part of the
36:41stuff that was
36:42grabbed from the
36:45backpack, which I
36:46believe was a
36:47magazine clip, and
36:50I'm looking through
36:51here on the article
36:52for the rest of it,
36:53there was a
36:54passport, a
36:55cell phone, a
36:56wallet, and a
36:57computer chip.
36:57Those things were
36:59excluded as evidence
37:00because the police
37:01didn't have a
37:01warrant.
37:02Now, when they go
37:03back to the police
37:04station and they're
37:06inventorying what was
37:08in his possession at
37:09the time he was
37:10arrested, then they
37:11found the actual gun.
37:13They also found a
37:15manifesto.
37:16They found a map
37:17showing his whereabouts
37:20and where he was
37:20going to make this
37:21ambush.
37:21That stuff was
37:22allowed into evidence
37:24because it was
37:25inventoried after the
37:27arrest as opposed to
37:29being confiscated
37:30during the arrest.
37:32And that's the
37:33simplest explanation
37:34of what the court
37:35did and did not
37:36do.
37:37At Monday's
37:38hearing, three
37:39Mangione supporters
37:40who go by the
37:41nickname the
37:42Mangionistas were
37:44in attendance.
37:45They managed to
37:46get press passes,
37:48something that New
37:49York City Mayor
37:49Zoran Mamdani said
37:51shouldn't have
37:52happened.
37:53At Odyssey
37:54station WCCO
37:55news talk in the
37:56Twin Cities, Jason
37:58Derusha of Drive
37:59Time with Derusha
38:00had some thoughts.
38:03Defending the
38:04murder of anyone
38:09is pretty disgusting.
38:12But yet a
38:14generation of
38:16activists have
38:17decided that it's
38:19okay to kill
38:20health care
38:21executives.
38:25A couple of
38:26women were given
38:26a press pass by
38:28city officials
38:30in New York
38:32and attended
38:32a court
38:34hearing
38:36in the
38:36trial of
38:38Luigi
38:38Mangione.
38:39He is the
38:40accused killer
38:41of United
38:41Health Care
38:42CEO Brian
38:43Thompson.
38:44Brian Thompson
38:46lives here,
38:47lived here,
38:48in the
38:49Twin Cities.
38:51He's a
38:51father,
38:52he's a
38:53son.
38:56These
38:58three
38:58Luigi
38:59Mangione
39:00supporters
39:02stood in
39:03front of the
39:03microphones
39:04yesterday
39:05and they
39:08have like an
39:08Instagram account,
39:09I'm not going to
39:10say what it
39:10is.
39:14Just
39:15minuscule
39:16audiences,
39:17although one
39:18of these
39:19people
39:21has a
39:22large
39:22Instagram
39:22following,
39:23so whatever,
39:24they shouldn't
39:24have been
39:24given
39:25press passes.
39:26And
39:27on top
39:29of it
39:29though,
39:31what they
39:31are saying,
39:34I can't
39:36tell
39:36how
39:39uncommon
39:40this
39:40viewpoint
39:41is.
39:42I think
39:43there
39:43has been
39:45an acceptance
39:45of violence
39:46by people
39:47who are
39:47extreme
39:49extremists
39:50and it
39:51to me
39:52it's just
39:52disgusting
39:52and it's
39:53a lack
39:54of humanity
39:54and it's
39:55a lack
39:55of
39:57understanding
39:57as to
39:58what
39:59actually
39:59can get
40:00you
40:01closer
40:01towards
40:02your
40:02policy
40:03goals
40:03or society
40:04goals
40:04or whatever.
40:05Listen,
40:06there is a
40:07political
40:07movement
40:09especially
40:11and I
40:12hate to
40:12make this
40:12a generational
40:13thing
40:13but it
40:14is
40:14it is
40:15young
40:16extremely
40:17liberal
40:18people
40:19and
40:20look
40:22the mayor
40:23of New York
40:24City
40:25who is a
40:27democratic
40:27socialist
40:28who is very
40:29far to the
40:30left
40:32he
40:34condemned
40:35this
40:35these statements
40:37even Luigi
40:38Mangione's
40:40attorney
40:42said like
40:43this is
40:43like this
40:44isn't
40:45it
40:49but I'll
40:50tell you
40:50like there
40:50there are
40:51these sorts
40:52of sick
40:53people out
40:54there who
40:54think that
40:55oh because
40:56this guy
40:56was in
40:57health care
40:57and because
40:59United
40:59Health

42:36I

42:40and I
42:41do
42:41think
42:41there
42:42is a
42:42problem
42:43in
42:46just like
42:47Republicans
42:47have a

42:48with far
42:49right
42:49extremists
42:52and in
42:53Minnesota
42:53I think
42:54Republicans
42:54have a
42:55problem
42:55with the

42:56part of
42:56their

43:03how do

43:06which you
43:07need to

43:08without
43:10sort of
43:11taking on
43:12some of
43:12the onus
43:13for being
43:14racist
43:15I think
43:16the Democrats
43:17have this
43:17same problem
43:18with their
43:19extremists
43:19I don't
43:21think a

49:01person
49:02who was
49:02ever
49:03convicted
49:03of a
49:04crime
49:04he
49:05has
49:05the
49:05infamous
49:08distinction
49:08of being
49:10the only
49:10person
49:11out of
49:12that
49:12trial
49:12convicted
49:13of a
49:14crime
49:14and the
49:15crime of
49:15course
49:16being
49:18perjury
49:18where were
49:19you when
49:19oh god
49:20I was
49:21in the
49:22journalism
49:22school at
49:23KU
49:23when they
49:23read the
49:24verdict
49:24but if
49:25I really
49:26want to
49:26ask you
49:26guys this
49:27if you
49:28take out
49:29Mark
49:30Furman
49:30and the
49:31side
49:32the whole
49:32side
49:33circus
49:34of whether
49:34or not
49:35he had
49:35ever
49:35said
49:36that
49:36word
49:37and he
49:38is the
49:38one that
49:38found
49:38the
49:38glove
49:40is the
49:41verdict
49:41guilty
49:42no
49:43no
49:44and one
49:45thing I
49:45think
49:45you're
49:46either
49:46leaving
49:47out
49:47or not
49:48remembering
49:48is at
49:50that time
49:51in Los
49:51Angeles
49:51there was
49:52still an
49:52incredible
49:55anger
49:56regarding
49:57Rodney
49:57King
49:57yes
49:58and many
50:00people would
50:00argue that
50:01this was the
50:02jury's way
50:02of taking
50:05it back
50:05yeah
50:05from the
50:06acquittal of
50:07all the
50:08police officers
50:09who were
50:09found not
50:10guilty in the
50:11beating of
50:11Rodney King
50:12it was
50:13his glove
50:14to remind
50:14me Scott
50:15that he
50:15found at
50:16the scene
50:17that was
50:18the one
50:18they had
50:18him try
50:19on in
50:20that
50:21backfire
50:22if it
50:22doesn't
50:22fit
50:23you must
50:23have
50:23quit
50:23they have
50:24to be
50:24teaching
50:24that in
50:25law school
50:25even to
50:26this day
50:26they always
50:27say don't
50:27ever ask
50:28a question
50:29that you
50:29don't know
50:30the answer
50:30to
50:31and they
50:31asked OJ
50:32Simpson to
50:33put that
50:33bloody glove
50:34on and it
50:34didn't fit
50:35and do you
50:35know all
50:35those years
50:36later why
50:36it didn't
50:37fit
50:37because they
50:38had told
50:38him the
50:39rumor is
50:39to not
50:40take his
50:41arthritis
50:41medicine
50:42one of
50:43his attorneys
50:43said you
50:44know
50:44stop taking
50:46your arthritis
50:46medication
50:47your hands
50:47are going
50:48to swell
50:48up
50:48and the
50:49blood on
50:49the leather
50:50made the
50:50leather shrink
50:51and they
50:52had him
50:52wear rubber
50:53gloves
50:55which would
50:56make it
50:56harder to
50:56get the
50:57leather glove
50:58over the
50:59rubber
51:01and yes
51:02don't take
51:03your medicine
51:03his use
51:05of the
51:05n-word
51:05is in
51:06the first
51:06line
51:07of three
51:08different
51:08stories
51:09about his
51:09death
51:10it is
51:12I hate
51:12to say
51:13this
51:13Sam
51:13I'm sure
51:14he had
51:15a life
51:15and maybe
51:15he had
51:16kids
51:16I don't
51:17know
51:17I think
51:17he did
51:17stuff for
51:18court TV
51:18for a while
51:19you say
51:20Mark Furman
51:20I say
51:21racist
51:21Mark Furman
51:22racist
51:22there is
51:24no
51:24separating
51:26him
51:26from that
51:27moment
51:27because
51:28and Dan
51:28I know
51:29you'll agree
51:29with this
51:29he could
51:30have said
51:31on that
51:31stand
51:32I have
51:33made
51:33mistakes
51:34in my
51:34life
51:34I don't
51:35know
51:36maybe
51:36there's
51:36a tape
51:37out of
51:37there
51:37of me
51:37saying
51:37I don't
51:38know
51:38I have
51:39I can
51:39I say
51:40with 100%
51:41certainty
51:41he could
51:41have said
51:41all these
51:42things
51:42but it
51:43doesn't
51:43mean I
51:44planted
51:44this glove
51:44instead
51:45he raised
51:45his right
51:46hand
51:46and said
51:46I have
51:48never
51:49said
51:50that
51:50I actually
51:51wonder
51:51Sam
51:52if we
51:52can find
51:52his
51:53testimony
51:53because
51:54and that's
51:55a conviction
51:56of perjury
51:56for that
51:57oh for
51:57sure
51:58oh yes
52:00oh yes
52:01he was
52:01Sam
52:02he was
52:04adamant
52:05that he
52:05had never
52:05ever said
52:06that word
52:06of the
52:07prosecutors
52:07when they
52:08played that
52:09tape
52:09and it
52:10happened
52:10in court
52:12on TV
52:13to the
52:14level
52:15of
52:15I mean
52:16it was
52:16an official
52:16proceeding
52:17so it
52:18raises it
52:18to the
52:19level
52:19of
52:19perjury
52:20he needed
52:20to say
52:21I do
52:21not
52:21recall
52:22if I'm
52:22racist
52:22or not
52:24Sam
52:24he could
52:25have said
52:25anything
52:25as far
52:26as I
52:26can
52:26recall
52:27I am
52:27not
52:27racist
52:28denial
52:28that he
52:29had
52:29ever
52:29said
52:29that
52:29word
52:29because
52:30the
52:30defense
52:31was trying
52:32to paint
52:32a picture
52:33that the
52:33LAPD
52:34was corrupt
52:35and wanted
52:37to pin
52:37this on
52:37the black
52:38man
52:38forget
52:38the fact
52:39that the
52:39black man
52:40was wearing
52:40the shoe
52:41that the
52:42bloody shoe
52:42print
52:43happened to
52:43match
52:44and there's
52:44only 500
52:44pairs of
52:45those shoes
52:45ever produced
52:46in the history
52:46of mankind
52:47forget the fact
52:48there's blood
52:48in his car
52:49forget all
52:49that stuff
52:50LAPD
52:50was racist
52:51and that
52:52was the
52:52message
52:52the defense
52:53kept
52:53hammering
52:54home
52:55and the
52:55jury
52:56said
52:56all right
52:57but at
52:57the time
52:57were they
52:58wrong
52:58I don't
52:59think so
53:00no
53:00and I
53:00think people
53:01in that
53:01community
53:01knew it
53:02that it
53:03was so
53:03corrupt
53:04and then
53:05you have
53:05this
53:06handsome
53:06remember
53:07how handsome
53:07he was
53:08handsome
53:08detective
53:09get up
53:09there
53:09no I
53:10have
53:10never
53:10I would
53:11never
53:11say that
53:11word
53:12from the
53:13text line
53:13OJ was
53:14innocent
53:14all caps
53:16my god

53:21that
53:21I know
53:22the killings
53:22occurred
53:23in 1994

53:28being in
53:29the newsroom
53:30I was
53:31working at
53:31KLWN
53:33when the
53:34verdict was
53:34announced
53:35and everybody
53:36we had one
53:37TV in the
53:38entire radio

53:40the newsroom
53:42and everybody

53:44in there
53:44and I
53:46remember there

53:49was announced
53:49everybody was
53:50like oh my

53:55arms up in
53:56the air and
53:56said yes
53:57yes
