00:22Nuclear energy is the way to go for Peninsula Malaysia to meet its baseload electricity needs,
00:28says a senior economic advisor in the Prime Minister's office.
00:32Nur Hisham Hussein said solar power could not provide a stable baseload supply,
00:37and that Peninsula Malaysia did not have significant hydropower capacity like Sabah and Sarawak.
00:43He also said fossil fuel still plays a major role in the economy,
00:48especially diesel which is used by small businesses and traders.
00:52Nur Hisham added that the proposed ASEAN power grid could allow Malaysia to tap
00:57cleaner energy by importing hydropower from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
01:03Malaysia does not currently operate any nuclear power plants and relies mainly on gas,
01:09coal, and renewable energy sources for electricity generation.
