Trinidad and Tobago is set to face South Korea on Saturday and the big question is, are they up for the challenge? The South Koreans are currently preparing for the FIFA World Cup and head Coach of the T&T National Football team Derek King, indicated that his team will be no pushovers as they prepare for the Concacaf Nations League.
Transcript
00:00With the Nations League on his mind, the head coach of the national football team, Derrick King, will be going
00:05into the South Korea match on May 30th to test his forces.
00:09I think it's important as the head now to get the right formula, the right mix for our Nation League
00:18game that is coming up in September.
00:20I think these few games here is to take a look at some new players that could add to the
00:27pool, that we will have a good team come September to compete at the Nation League.
00:35He added it's not exactly their full-strength side as there are a few injured players.
00:40Well, I think we're facing a very experienced team, a team with quality players as well.
00:47You know, unfortunately, we picked a name of our squad three weeks ago, and we have a few players with
00:54injuries.
00:55So I think it's important that, you know, we don't really take a chance to further have the players who
01:04is injured take any risks.
01:07He indicated that Levi Garcia has family issues and will not be in the match.
01:11But players are under consideration outside of the FIFA date.
01:15Because of the 30th, a non-FIFA date, you know, we have a few players like Nathaniel James, Smith, Denzel
01:25Smith.
01:25We also have Rampasad Telfer, who is unavailable due to their club commitments and is outside of the FIFA date
01:32as well.
01:33Other players are hoping to grasp the opportunity.
01:36For me personally, I've been around with a lot of challenging international games.
01:42So it's not something new to me.
01:45I think it's games to challenge a bunch of guys to really go out and show that we can play
01:51against opponents outside of our region.
01:56King says he wants his team to play football that shows they know what they are doing defensively, and he's
02:02hoping they can apply pressure.
02:03Meantime, the team set to play Russia on June 9th is expected to be different.
02:08It will have about at least eight changes, you know, because it's a FIFA date.
02:13We have, I don't want to see some, a little minor issues with some of the U.S.-based players.
02:20And we will have, you know, the Rian Moore, the Justin Garcia, the Andrew Raymond, Telfer, and joining our team
02:31to travel to Russia.
02:33Sergio DeFore, TV6 Port.
