Bu (Shu Qi) is a beautiful young girl from a small Taiwanese fishing village who discovers a romantic message in a bottle. She heads for Hong Kong to find its writer, only to learn that it was in fact written by Albert (Tony Leung Chiu-wai), a lonely gay man. She then meets a wealthy recycling company owner, C.N. (Jackie Chan). They fall in love with each other. The plot is soon thickened by the rivalry between Howie Lo (Emil Chau) and C.N., who are both businessmen who have known each other since their childhood days.

00:03Hi, I'm Jackie Chan.
00:08I'm talking to you for the next one and a half hour.
00:14It's really funny when the audience look at the gorgeous movie.
00:21Why is Jackie Chan making this movie?
00:23Actually, it's a very, very funny story.
00:26Why? Because after, when I make a film in Hollywood,
00:35then I think because really like a rush hour really for the Western market.
00:48I can say it's like for Canada, for Europe, for America.
00:54It's not really for Asian market.
00:59So this is why after...
01:03Because I really know what American audience like, what Asian audience like.
01:11So this is why when I, after rush hour, I decide I make one Asian film.
01:20Then I decide make one or two American film, then one Asian film.
01:27So this is why I came back to Hong Kong.
01:32Suppose I make, I want to make the...
01:36I don't know you, you know or not.
01:40I really want to make like, Armor of God part three.
01:45The part one is me and with Alan Tam.
01:49The part two...
01:51Uh...
01:53Like a wind tunnel, uh, that movie with, uh, Dudu Jane with another Spanish actress.
02:02And of all the dolphins...
02:03Then I want to make part three.
02:04It's about...
02:06Um...
02:07In India or either, either in, in Turkey.
02:11But the man was swept out to sea.
02:13And some cities...
02:14And also, I want to be a...
02:16Uh, all those years I'm always producer some other movie.
02:20Just a surgeon.
02:21So...
02:21There's a...
02:23How about that?
02:23Director.
02:25I met him in very...
02:28Coincidence.
02:29In the...
02:30Dinner place.
02:32Uh...
02:32Then when I met him, I just, uh...
02:34How's going on?
02:35Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
02:37Then suddenly he come up the story with a...
02:40Very famous...
02:42Uh, writer.
02:44Uh...
02:44About...
02:45Gorgeous story.
02:46Then I said, great.
02:47It's a very, very interesting...
02:49Story.
02:50It's like, uh...
02:52Very, uh...
02:55Uh...
02:57Uh...
02:57It's like, uh...
02:59How did I say?
02:59It's like, uh...
03:00Very fantasy.
03:03And...
03:03I like those kind of stories.
03:05It's like, uh...
03:08Uh...
03:08Like a Disney film.
03:10Uh...
03:11No violence.
03:12It's, uh...
03:14Those kind of stories.
03:14I said, good.
03:15I want to be a producer.
03:16Then I...
03:17I can help him.
03:19And...
03:21Uh...
03:22Uh...
03:23To raise the money.
03:25Uh...
03:25Because when I use my name, I be...
03:28Becoming a producer.
03:30My...
03:31My...
03:32My...
03:32My company, Golden Harvest, they would take the...
03:35The project.
03:37So I'm looking for the actor and actress for him.
03:43Uh...
03:43Suppose, uh...
03:44The beginning, uh...
03:45The act...
03:46The actress is, uh...
03:47Right now, it's a very, very famous, uh...
03:51Singer.
03:52Her name is called...
03:54I...
03:54I...
03:55I don't really know the English name.
03:56Her name is called...
03:57From Taiwan.
03:59Uh...
03:59She's, uh...
04:00It's kind of like, uh...
04:04Uh...
04:04Like, uh...
04:05Taiwan...
04:05Got a second?
04:06Indian.
04:07Wait till you see what I bought you.
04:09In my whole life, I've never seen an oyster like this one.
04:13Uh...
04:14Any pearls?
04:15No.
04:18Ooh...
04:18Huh?
04:21Looks like it's expensive.
04:23Hundred dollars.
04:24Uh...
04:25Uh...
04:25She's right now very famous, uh...
04:27Singer.
04:29Then I said, that might interesting for the...
04:32Uh...
04:32Uh...
04:32The...
04:33The audience.
04:35Then I'm looking for another young actor.
04:38Which is...
04:39Are you asking?
04:40Um...
04:41Coming up.
04:41The new...
04:43Singer.
04:44Then I fly to Taipei.
04:46Uh...
04:47We sit down, have a dinner.
04:48We're meeting with her manager.
04:50Uh...
04:51We're talking about story and she like it.
04:54Then after that, uh...
04:56The manager called me back.
04:58Yes.
04:59Because...
05:00She...
05:01I'll consider...
05:02Never make movie before.
05:04So this is why she's very nervous.
05:06Uh...
05:06She don't have the confidence...
05:09To...
05:09Make the movie with the new actor.
05:12And...
05:13Take me away!
05:14Her...
05:17Her idea is...
05:19She's new.
05:20Why don't...
05:21Her make the movie with Jackie Chan?
05:23Then I said, no.
05:24How can...
05:26Uh...
05:26I'm...
05:27Play this kind of character.
05:28I said, uh...
05:29With...
05:29Suppose the...
05:31The whole movie...
05:31Without...
05:32Any action.
05:34I said...
05:34All drama.
05:35All love story.
05:37So I said, no.
05:39Uh...
05:39I don't think the audience...
05:40They like...
05:41I play this kind of character.
05:43So I said, I cannot do it.
05:45Uh...
05:46Why can...
05:46Why don't I find another actor?
05:50Uh...
05:50Another famous actor.
05:51Then she said, no, no, no.
05:53I...
05:53What she want is...
05:55Jackie Chan.
05:55I said, no.
05:56Sorry.
05:57Uh...
05:57I don't have the confidence...
06:00To make this kind of movie.
06:03So...
06:03Suddenly the project just...
06:06Uh...
06:06Stopped.
06:07A boo.
06:07A boo.
06:08A boo.
06:08A boo.
06:09Then the director come to me.
06:11The writer come to me.
06:12What's going on?
06:13I said...
06:14Because she...
06:16She have this kind of problem.
06:17She's nervous.
06:18Uh...
06:18She don't want to make the movie...
06:20With the new actor.
06:21Then...
06:22She want to make it with me.
06:23But I...
06:25I don't have confidence, too.
06:28Then they...
06:29They...
06:30Uh...
06:31Let...
06:32Let them think about it.
06:33I heard a story once.
06:36Souls...
06:37Start out together.
06:38But when they...
06:39About weeks later...
06:40They're coming back.
06:41Another new idea.
06:42Why don't you have a...
06:44We change a little bit story.
06:46Then...
06:46They...
06:47I said, why don't you...
06:48You guys tell me the story?
06:51Uh...
06:51The...
06:52Exactly...
06:53The story.
06:56Then from the beginning...
06:57They tell me the story...
06:59Blah blah blah blah blah...
07:00Uh...
07:01Which is...
07:01You might...
07:03You might see it later.
07:04I...
07:04I believe you see the...
07:05The whole story already.
07:07Uh...
07:08Then I said...
07:08Very quite interesting.
07:10Why don't...
07:10Why...
07:10Why...
07:11Why can I not...
07:14Uh...
07:14Uh...
07:15Uh...
07:15Uh...
07:15Uh...
07:15Uh...
07:15Uh...
07:15Uh...
07:16Uh...
07:16Uh...
07:16Uh...
07:16Uh...
07:27Uh...
07:38Uh...
07:39Uh...
07:39Uh...
07:40Uh...
08:02Uh...
08:05Uh...
08:07Uh...
08:07Uh...
08:07Uh...
08:14Uh...
08:18Uh...
08:21Uh...
08:31Uh...
08:32Uh...
08:33In the beginning, I liked the story.
08:36And I said, why am I always be a policeman,
08:40and always a fighter?
08:42Why I cannot be a businessman?
08:45Then I keep changing, keep changing.
08:48From now, from that time, I loved the story.
08:51Then I want to make the movie very badly.
08:56Then I'm just looking for some new actress,
08:59but we cannot.
09:01I want to, I always want to create some new actress,
09:11like my last few years, my old movies,
09:15all the new actresses.
09:17So this is why I went to Singapore,
09:22I went to Taipei, I went to China,
09:25looking for some new actresses.
09:26And also we put some advertising on the newspaper.
09:33There's maybe a thousand young girls come to audition.
09:41We separate the director, the writer, and producer, myself.
09:48We, we bring to a different country to audition all the,
09:53to meet all the different young actresses,
09:57young new talent.
09:59The problem is, I've, we find some, somebody we like it,
10:05but they cannot act.
10:06I want you to place an order for 100 people.
10:08And somebody can act,
10:12but they're not really this kind of character.
10:15They're still friends.
10:17So after we find out, we change the story from Taipei.
10:21So we really like the girl who, from Taipei,
10:28and it's like a country girl.
10:32And that time, there's a very young actress,
10:37which is, you, you already see in the movie,
10:39called Shu Qi.
10:42And she's very cute.
10:44And she's new, new and coming.
10:49Even right now in, in Asia, she's very famous right now.
10:55And then I said, okay, why don't, why don't we try her?
11:01So, it's a long, long, long story.
11:04So we start the movie, and there's a lot of rumor,
11:09because, um, uh, there's, anyway, just, um, we, we make this, the movie.
11:22Then I'm beginning to, to worry how I fight in the movie.
11:31What kind of fighting,
11:32because usually when I decide a lot of the action scene,
11:36I have to come up with the story.
11:39Because this kind of story is like a really, really relaxed,
11:47and, uh, it's not like a police, uh,
11:51uh, policeman, uh, gangster, triest, and bad guy.
11:56So I, uh, I create a story, all good guy.
12:01And all those years, I've been fighting with all the different people already.
12:07Even who am I, even, uh, Rush Hour with all the machine guns,
12:11uh, police, uh, police story, all my old films.
12:19And really, really, every different movie,
12:22I'm really tired to find the, the, the guy who fight with me.
12:26No way.
12:27Oh, yeah.
12:28And suddenly, I, I, I, I, I thought, why don't I find a short guy?
12:31Yeah.
12:32Um.
12:33I swear.
12:36So the note in that bottle was to your boyfriend?
12:39He's kind of my, my students.
12:42Because he broke it all?
12:43His name is called Alan.
12:46Uh, Brad Alan.
12:47Oh, well.
12:47He's from Australia.
12:50Uh, there's another guy is called, uh, uh, Paul, also from, uh,
12:55they are kind of my students.
12:59From, from, uh, Mr. Nice Guy, Who Am I?
13:02They, uh, they, uh, they was a stuntman before.
13:05They, they train with me.
13:08Uh, I, I tell them how to make a movie.
13:11They just go whatever I, I go after.
13:14Even not, not making a film.
13:17We just train each other.
13:19Then they, they carry all the glove.
13:22I just keep punch, kicking.
13:24It's like a training.
13:26Uh, every day.
13:28Then I, then I find out one day when the training,
13:31then I said, why don't I just use Alan in the movie?
13:35I don't care he's short.
13:37Then I, and I want to play the character.
13:40It's a more, very concentrated in the business.
13:44And I don't, I don't really, uh, training anymore.
13:49Uh, I have, uh, the guy seems like a business friend.
13:54Uh, he always, uh, want to beat me.
13:58We just create a direct dialogue.
14:01He cannot buy, he, uh, his name is called Emel Chow.
14:05He's a very, very famous.
14:07One of the, the, the famous singer in Asia.
14:15Why I said he's a very famous because he's, he can, uh, write the lyrics.
14:21Uh, he can create, uh, he's a producer.
14:24He can sing Mandarin.
14:26And he, he speaks very good English and Mandarin, Cantonese, whatever.
14:32Uh, he can almost, in the movie, uh, uh, uh, music, he almost can do everything.
14:40He can play a guitar, piano, everything.
14:43He's a good friend of mine.
14:44Then I, I use him to be my, uh, partner.
14:48It's not like a partner.
14:50Uh, like, uh, uh, we hate each other, but we are good friends.
14:56And so this is why, and inside, in the movie, you can see I use my really, really training stuff.
15:03Sit down, I'll get you.
15:04Which is, is, uh, kind of like my, my, my, my, my real life, you know, training.
15:12Uh, even they use my training machine.
15:19Uh, they copy my office.
15:22Because I have my own office, very big.
15:25I have my, uh, training room.
15:29Uh, my personal, I, uh, because my personal office is like a three-story.
15:38Then the art director, he wanted one flat room.
15:42Very huge flat room.
15:44So we created the scene, they, they move all my stuff.
15:48Training stuff on the set.
15:51So basically, in the movie, what, what you see is, uh, I'm basic training.
15:56Uh, really.
15:57Yeah.
15:58Because, uh, we cannot really show you how training, uh, takes like a, like a three-four hours.
16:05So we're, in the movie, so this is why we create a montage.
16:10The, the song.
16:13I've heard that my company stock is of interest to you lately.
16:16And I fight with Alan, and all, uh, you can, you can see this kind of fighting is like a,
16:23very healthy, um, no violence.
16:28But anyway, my movie always, uh, without violence.
16:32Um, uh, uh, you can say different angle.
16:37If, uh, my movie you say action is violent, at least it's a good violence.
16:42And we, we, we, we, I create a lot of comedy and action.
16:52So this one, in the movie, this movie is a drama.
16:55Uh, with all, uh, good action scene.
17:02Uh, and, and very difficult, like, uh, the outside of my house with the most motorcycle.
17:11Uh, I have to, uh, the, usually the bad guy use a baseball, uh, weapon.
17:18It's a very violent.
17:19So I create, you can tell there's a, I create a lot of comedy things going on.
17:24Uh, it's a, those kind of fighting, it's a more difficult than, than, like, uh, some, uh, uh, uh, uh,
17:36uh, uh, the violent action.
17:38Why violent, you just bang, bang, you knock somebody down, that's all.
17:42And blood goes on.
17:44So I create, it's more fighting going on, mixed audience, loving, uh, with all the technique.
17:52It's not easy.
17:55It's a very, very difficult.
17:57Uh, you, you use, uh, three baseball, uh, weapon in my hand.
18:02Uh, and all, uh, fancy movement.
18:06Mm, and also with the rhythm.
18:08Ba-bam-bang, ba-bam-bang, ba-bam-bang.
18:10That's very, and also you can tell when, uh, in the boat scene.
18:14Um, I only, everything I use my, as my coat.
18:20My, my, my long coat.
18:22You know, take off, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, I wear again.
18:26I take off, I wear again.
18:28Um, I like, I like create this kind of fancy, difficult movement.
18:36I just don't like to, all those years you can see my movie.
18:40I don't like just one and two punch.
18:42One and two punch, one kick is a very easy job for, for, for me.
18:47I, I, I really want to, you know, you know, take off the shoes, uh, uh, turn around, one kick,
18:55put the shoes on again.
18:57For one shot, that's ten times difficult than, than, than just one punch.
19:03And without special effect.
19:06That's what a basic doing.
19:08So in the movie, the whole movie you can see, even we have a different scene fighting.
19:14I create different movement, different comedy, different, different things.
19:31Oh.
19:33Oh.
19:37Oh.
19:39Oh.
19:44Huh?
19:44Where is it?
19:45Because the movie want to release in Chinese New Year, so this is why, you can tell, uh, when, whenever
19:53a movie going on,
19:54And even some other movies, when the action scene comes in, I'm always directed.
20:04Because nobody, no director knows what I'm doing.
20:08And no director knows better than myself.
20:12So that's why when the action scene comes in, I always directed.
20:17So I can say every movie, I'm kind of like a second union director.
20:24Always, like, they call me, Jackie, we need help.
20:29Okay, sometimes we need, okay, we hurry up.
20:33Then I just tell the director, go ahead, you go to some other location, let me take care of the
20:40fighting scene.
20:41And usually I like to direct the fighting scene.
20:44And why? Because I really know what I'm doing.
20:54And also different kick, different punch, different shot.
20:59I know the camera angle.
21:02And also all my stunt boys, I can call my boys.
21:09I have my own team, own stunt team, so they know what I'm doing.
21:16So really, even make a film in Hollywood, wherever I go, I bring my own team.
21:23I have, right now, I almost have, still have like six Jackie Chan team, stunt team.
21:31And all those years, I create more than like 50 stunt team already.
21:36Of course, some other growing up, they already left me, they're becoming a director already, they're becoming a stunt coordinator,
21:48they have their own team.
21:50They went to China, wherever they go, some in America, some in Singapore, China, whatever.
21:59I still, I still, I still looking for young, young, young kid, a young kid, because everybody know how to
22:09fight.
22:10But in the movie fight, it's different.
22:13The fight with choreograph, with all the different fighting, action, and camera angle, that, and editing, that's very different than
22:26the real fighting.
22:29Kicking punch, everybody knows, but choreograph, the fighting scene, with editing, that's very, very few.
22:41Even, even in, in, in Hollywood, very few action stars, they know how to edit, and they, they, they can
22:52create their, their own fighting.
22:54So, I, always tell my boys, uh, with, besides doing a stunt, you have to know what's next shot, what's
23:04next cut, what's next, uh, camera angle, and you have to know the story, what kind of fighting.
23:11Uh, if like a Rocky, like a Stallone's movie, Rocky fighting, different kind of fighting, different kind of acting, uh,
23:18editing.
23:19And, and you have to know the whole story, then you have to, continuity, and all the comedy, uh, when
23:28you use comedy, when you use the serious fighting.
23:31So, I, some, sometimes I'm really happy, what I'm doing, uh, as my job, uh, beside actor, acting.
23:40The more you're grown up, the less people like you.
23:43What do you like best?
23:47Taking a shower when I'm really hot.
23:49And, I believe, if you know me already, you, you, you, you, you're very strange why I'm not singing this,
23:55the title song for myself.
23:57Usually, I always sing my own title song, even Police Story, from, from long, long time ago.
24:05But, this kind, but this time, it's a, the, the, the, the girl, girl who wrote the song is a
24:13director's girlfriend.
24:16And, also, after listening to the song, then I said, yes, it's a very, very pretty song.
24:20It's not like, uh, um, Police Story, uh, uh, the, the one you, you remember.

24:46Uh, I'm singing the Mandarin.
25:01This kind of song, I like it, it's like, uh, very man, and very, uh, strong.
25:08But, this one is like, uh, uh, uh, very, very soft.
25:13Then I sing, no, I'm not going, I'm not going to ruin this kind of, uh,
25:19Uh, maybe, I think maybe it's my confidence.
25:23I don't have this kind of confidence to, to sing in, like, a very romantic song.
25:29Uh, so this one, I don't want to ruin the movie.
25:33I, I don't want to ruin the song.
25:34So this one, why don't you hire some other new talent, new, uh, uh, uh, singer, who sing the song?
