00:31For those who don't follow Reliving the War, welcome to this Wrestlemania 2000 video review. For those who tune in
00:37each and every week, welcome to another landmark night in our entire Reliving the War journey.
00:42It's the 2nd of April 2000, Wrestlemania takes place in the Anaheim Pond once again in California. It's been a
00:49rough old journey to our main event tonight, but Triple H is going to defend the WWF title against The
00:55Rock, The Big Show and Mick Foley in a fatal four way match, but we'll talk about that a bit
01:00later on.
01:00Just over 19,500 are inside the pond tonight, an estimated 824,000 are watching on pay per view, which
01:08is just insane when you think about it, and fans had the choice of buying Wrestlemania 2000 as a standalone
01:14pay per view, or they could pay a little extra for Wrestlemania all day long. This option included a special
01:2012 hour presentation before the show began that covered matches and moments from previous Wrestlemania events.
01:27We're opening up tonight with The Godfather and D-Lo vs The Big Boss Man in Bull Buchanan, and one
01:33of the best things about this whole Wrestlemania has unfortunately been cut out of the network version of the show.
01:39Actually, do we now call these the Netflix versions? Anyway, Ice-T sang Pimpin' Ain't Easy from the WWF Aggression
01:47album as Godfather and D-Lo made their way down to the ring.
01:50It's one of the moments I remember most fondly from this Wrestlemania because, well, come on, the original gangsta himself
01:56at Wrestlemania. But if you want to see this performance nowadays, you'll need to hunt down a live copy of
02:02Mania or the original VHS.
02:05Bull Buchanan and The Big Boss Man is a brand new team in the WWF who only got together two
02:10weeks ago, so let's see if they could put some hard time on our two whole pushing babyfaces.
02:20Buchanan and D-Lo start us off, and what a ton of pressure right here for the newcomer. Bull's only
02:26been on TV for a few weeks, and here he is opening up Wrestlemania.
02:30D-Lo doesn't hold back when he shouts, you suck, into Bull's face before tagging in The Godfather. In some
02:36double team action from D-Lo and The Godfather, keep Bull on the canvas.
02:39Buchanan hasn't really done anything so far, and he ends up tagging out when The Godfather misses an elbow drop.
02:45As Godfather goes to work on The Boss Man, JR says Big Bubba's Wrestlemania record is, and I quote, sparkling.
02:52If you consider hanging from a noose in a Hell in a Cell match sparkling, then I guess Jim Ross
02:57is absolutely right.
02:58A big heel kick puts Boss Man down just before D-Lo and Bull come back in, and the newcomer
03:03is finally able to show off a little when he performs a top rope clothesline.
03:07Great agility here from Bull Buchanan.
03:09Boss Man and Buchanan are then able to show off some double teamwork of their own before the big man
03:14pulls off an axe kick.
03:15Godfather and D-Lo are on the back foot here, and the heels are showing a lot of promise.
03:19That was until Boss Man missed the back elbow by a mile, but we'll pretend that didn't happen.
03:25D-Lo gets put in a bear hug, the crowd chant his name, and they try to will The Apprentice
03:29Pimp back into the match.
03:31He fights out only to take another back elbow, and the heels work together to perform a double axe handle.
03:36You can tell that Buchanan and Boss Man needed to spend more time together in the ring for sure.
03:42Their double team offense is quite basic.
03:44It's effective, but basic.
03:47D-Lo takes backbreakers from both of his opponents, Bull heads upstairs, but Godfather's able to stop his aerial offense
03:53by shaking the ropes.
03:54D-Lo wakes up to perform a top rope hurricane runner, and in comes the Godfather to clean house.
03:59The crowd loves seeing Godfather go to work here, and they think it's all over after a whole train.
04:05But Godfather tags in D-Lo for a lowdown that Buchanan manages to stop.
04:09Godfather ends up fighting Bull on the outside, D-Lo takes a Boss Man slam, Bull gets tagged in, and
04:15he wins it after a top rope leg drop.
04:17Not a great opener at all, unfortunately.
04:19Not only did the heel team need to work on their chemistry a bit more, but opening up Mania with
04:25a fun, crowd-pleasing tag team like the Godfather and D-Lo taking a loss to an inexperienced newcomer in
04:31Bull Buchanan, it just doesn't feel right, you know?
04:40Stephanie McMahon won the WWF Women's Championship on SmackDown this past week.
04:44She's sitting with her husband backstage, they're both holding their championship belts.
04:49In Triple A it says the McMahon-Hemsley era are gonna put on the biggest Wrestlemania of all time.
04:56Next up, we've got a hardcore bottle royal for the WWF hardcore title.
05:00Young Crash Holly's in a lot of trouble.
05:02Tim White went through the rules a little earlier on, and he let the participants know that there's a 15
05:08minute time limit in this next match.
05:10There can be multiple title changes in this match, but whoever's the hardcore champion when the time limit expires will
05:16leave Wrestlemania with the belt.
05:18So pinfalls and submissions count here, there's no over-the-top elimination rule.
05:23We've got Taz, Viscera, hell yeah, the Mean Street Posse, Hardcore Holly, Kayontai, the Headbangers, the APA,
05:31and champion Crash Holly competing in this bout.
05:34And within the first 30 seconds of the match beginning, Taz pins Crash to win the hardcore belt.
05:39Crash, or anyone else who gets pinned, is still allowed to compete in this battle royal,
05:44so Crash does have the opportunity to win his belt back.
05:47Viscera then wins the championship after a full-on-part slam to Taz on the outside.
05:51Big Visc then joins the other competitors brawling at the ringside area.
05:56Everyone gangs up on the big man with the Mean Street Posse and the Acolytes doing the most damage.
06:00And on the other side of the ring, Crash gets busted open by his older cousin Hardcore.
06:06Viscera remains champion for the next few minutes.
06:08It's a wild brawl on the outside here with loads of weapon shots getting dished out.
06:13Poor Pete Gass gets busted open pretty badly in the middle of the chaos,
06:16and Viscera does well to hold his own before getting back in the ring.
06:20A few competitors try to take the big man out.
06:23It's the APA who end up doing the most damage as they throw Visc off the top rope
06:27before Bradshaw connects with a top rope shoulder block.
06:29The Acolytes then throw Kayentai on top of Viscera,
06:33and Funaki's announced as the new champion,
06:35something that Takamichi nogu isn't too hoppy about.
06:39Funaki decides to run away,
06:40he sprints back up the ramp while everyone gives chase.
06:43In Backstage, a Wrestlemania miracle takes place
06:46when godly Rodney pins Funaki to win the Hardcore title.
06:50Best Wrestlemania ever.
06:52You think that's good?
06:53Joey Abs pins Rodney 24 seconds later,
06:56and he too becomes Hardcore Champion.
06:59A fantastic night for the Mean Street Posse.
07:01Unfortunately, our boy loses the belt moments later to Thrasher,
07:05but when the competitors make it back to the Rompway,
07:07a bloody Pete Gass pins the Headbanger to win the gold.
07:10It really can't get any better.
07:13What a warrior Pete Gass really is.
07:15Taz wins the gold once again with over 4 minutes left on the clock.
07:19In the final moments of the match take place inside the ring
07:21as the Holly Cousins fight Taz and each other.
07:24Hardcore gets taken out of the equation,
07:26allowing Crash to win the title once again after smacking Taz with a bacon tray.
07:31We now have 35 seconds left on the clock,
07:33but 10 seconds later, Taz applies to Taz's mission.
07:36Crash has to hold on just a little while longer,
07:39he almost survives until the end,
07:41but Hardcore runs in to smash a jar over Crash's head,
07:45and the ending gets totally messed up.
07:47Hardcore covers Crash at the 4 second mark,
07:50the referee counts 1, he counts 2,
07:52Crash doesn't get his shoulder up,
07:54but the referee doesn't slap the mat either for a third time,
07:57and then the clock runs out.
07:59It's a complete mess for the finish,
08:00and no one knows what's going on.
08:02Crash grabs his Hardcore belt,
08:04the referee didn't count to 3 after all,
08:07but Hardfinkel announces that Hardcore Holly's the new Hardcore champion,
08:10and Crash has no choice but to hand the belt over.
08:13So, officially, Hardcore Holly is the winner of the battle royal.
08:17Clearly, the clock was supposed to expire before the 3 count,
08:20and the ending was just badly timed.
08:22The botch will get rectified on Raw tomorrow,
08:25but things like this really shouldn't happen at Wrestlemania.
08:33Al Snow and Steve Blackman have been a really entertaining team on WWF TV recently,
08:39and tonight they're taking on TNA,
08:41a new tag team that was formed two weeks ago on Raw
08:44when Trish Stratus made her Monday night debut.
08:47Al's talking to someone in the restroom,
08:50apparently whoever's behind that door
08:52is going to be part of the greatest Wrestlemania entrance of all time,
08:55and Steve warns Snow that there better not be any dicking about tonight.
08:59This is Wrestlemania, this is serious,
09:02Sensei needs to fix a leak in the dojo basement,
09:05so the boys need to focus on one thing,
09:07winning this match.
09:09Al says Blackman has nothing to worry about,
09:11even though whoever's behind that door's taking one mean shit.
09:16The world's greatest tag team make their entrance,
09:18and of course, Al Snow lied.
09:21He introduces Blackman and everyone else to Chester McCheeserton,
09:24a human block of cheese that Al says has a better entrance
09:28than Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 12.
09:31Blackman has to do everything in his power,
09:33not to unleash Shin Blackman,
09:34as Snow leads a let's go head cheese chant
09:37and Chester smacks his cheesy little ass,
09:40but Steve will get the chance to release all his anger
09:42after Test and Albert make their way down to the ring.
09:45The match starts off,
09:46and while Steve misses an Inziguri,
09:48he does land a standing sidekick.
09:50JR's headset screws up here,
09:52and Jerry Lawler has to go solo for a little while
09:54as Al Snow comes in,
09:56and TNA shows some double teamwork
09:57with a corner clothesline followed by a big boot.
10:00Snow fights back with a clothesline to Albert
10:02followed by an Inziguri of his own,
10:04and in comes Blackman with a hard shoulder block.
10:06This one was a little tasty,
10:08and so Albert got some revenge moments later.
10:11A sweep from Blackman makes Albert fall flat on his face,
10:14the match breaks down for a moment,
10:16Steve has to save his partner
10:17when Albert goes for a press slam,
10:19and the match settles down again to Al, Snow and Albert.
10:23We see Chester standing on the outside
10:25watching the match with a lot of interest,
10:27kinda weird seeing the beautiful Trish Stratus
10:29standing there beside a block of cheese
10:31with its ass cheeks exposed.
10:33Our cheesy friend gets a bit frisky with Trish,
10:36and Jerry Lawler calls him Chester the molester,
10:38not that Jerry would know anything about that.
10:41Steve Blackman messes Albert up
10:43before Snow comes back in with a big top rope sledge,
10:46Tess comes in the Queen House,
10:47and Snow takes a big sidewalk slam,
10:50TNA pull off a double powerbomb,
10:52but Steve comes in to save the day.
10:54On the outside,
10:55we see an acai moonsault from Alice Snow
10:57that gets a good reaction from the audience.
10:59The crowd hasn't been all that loud tonight so far,
11:02but they did enjoy moments from the Battle Royal.
11:04Back in the ring,
11:05Snow and Blackman pull off their backbreaker leg drop finisher,
11:08but it's easily broken up by Albert,
11:10so if you've been watching Raw over the past few weeks,
11:13you pretty much know that this one's over.
11:15TNA show off what they can do
11:16when Albert press slams his partner on top of Stevie,
11:19and our match ends with another press slam
11:21from Albert to Blackman followed by a test elbow drop.
11:24Nothing wrong with the action in the ring,
11:27this one just lacked heed,
11:28and again,
11:29the outcome of the match wasn't exactly crowd-pleasing.
11:32Blackman and Snow have been doing some great comedy work on Raw,
11:35and they get rewarded with a loss here
11:37to two guys who were randomly paired up a fortnight ago.
11:41After the bell,
11:41Snow apologises to Al,
11:43he admits that Chester McCheeserton was a stupid idea,
11:46and so he puts his cheesy buddy into the ring
11:49and he lets Blackman beat the crap out of him.
11:51Chester takes a Wrestlemania move out kick,
11:54and Al even gets in on the action too.
11:56So,
11:56all's well that ends well,
11:58I guess.
12:04May Young and Miss Kitty go through the old
12:07cover your private parts with conveniently placed random objects
12:10routine backstage.
12:12I do wonder how many times they had to record this
12:14because there's no way this was done live.
12:17Some absolute moon cats in the comments right now
12:20saying actually it was live
12:21as confirmed by a shoot interview recorded in 2002
12:24while getting Doritos all over the fucking keyboard.
12:28We've got a triangle ladder match next for the WWF Tag Team Titles,
12:32the Dudley Boys defending their belts against Agent Christian,
12:35and the Hardy Boys.
12:37You go into this one expecting big things,
12:39and yes,
12:40finally,
12:40we now have a match that's worthy of being called a Wrestlemania Classic.
12:44D-Vaun admits to being afraid of heights,
12:46but he won't let that stop the Dudley Boys winning this match.
12:49Bubba says he and D-Vaun are going to take Wrestlemania
12:52and the ladder match itself to a whole new level,
12:55and what's great about this upcoming match
12:57is that anyone could win it.
12:58It feels unpredictable seeing as all three teams have been booked so well over the past few months.
13:03We're already brawling at the entranceway after the opening bell,
13:07and it's just chaos as JR explains that there's no tags here at all.
13:11The first team to secure the tag belts wins,
13:13anything goes,
13:15and the competitors make the most of this by fighting both in and around the ring.
13:19Inside the ropes,
13:20Jeff pulls off a corkscrew moonsault,
13:22Bubba replies with a Bubba bomb,
13:23and the ladders then get brought into the ring
13:26as all competitors get inside the ropes to begin some serious high-risk offense.
13:31Poetry in motion from the hardies puts Bubba in his place,
13:34Christian doesn't have such luck.
13:36Matt performs an elbow drop while D-Vaun's on top of the ladder,
13:39but Jeff isn't so fortunate when he tries a 450 on Bubba.
13:42And if that wasn't bad enough,
13:44Bubba follows up with a top rope senton onto Jeff,
13:46which must have hurt Bubba too,
13:48and immediately afterwards,
13:49Edge drops a ladder on top of brother Matt.
13:52There's already been enough career shortening moves in this match,
13:55but we are far, far from over.
13:57Bubba performs the old helicopter spin while using the ladder.
14:00This backfires when Agent Christian pull off a double dropkick,
14:03and Bubba's partner doesn't get off lightly either
14:06after he gets dropped on a ladder perched up in the corner.
14:09Things then get ridiculous when Christian performs a crossbody
14:12from the ladder to the outside,
14:14and Edge stops Jeff from winning the match by performing a top rope spear.
14:18The crowd are going nuts,
14:19and it's now starting to feel a bit more like WrestleMania.
14:22Not to be outdone,
14:23Matt Hardy stops Edge from climbing the ladder
14:25with a sit-down crucifix powerbomb.
14:27Christian then stops D-Vaun by throwing the ladder into his back,
14:31Bubba then sets up a few new ladders
14:33as Christian tries to grab the belts,
14:34and Bubba pulls off a cutter from the top of the ladder.
14:38Of all the moves we have seen so far,
14:40this one gets the biggest pop,
14:41and it makes the crowd jump from their seats.
14:43Incredible stuff.
14:45Tandem aerial offense from the Hardy Boys
14:47keeps the excitement levels high,
14:49and JR reiterates how dangerous this match is
14:51as ladders get rearranged again.
14:54Edge and Christian pull off a double superplex to D-Vaun,
14:57and the Dudley Boy convulses after impact,
14:59and so the Hardys, Edge and Christian
15:01climb up the ladders in an effort to win this thing once and for all.
15:05Neither team has any luck,
15:06all four men get wiped out.
15:08This is the best chance the Dudley Boys have had so far,
15:11so they get back in the ring and they try to soften their opponents up.
15:15Unfortunately, they take way too long,
15:17and we end up in a situation where every competitor's on top of a ladder.
15:21Christian and Jeff are the first to go as their ladder gets pushed,
15:24and the boys fall right out of the ring,
15:25and this is enough to give Bubba the fear.
15:28The Dudley Boy decides to get down,
15:30and he pushes the other ladders down,
15:31causing Matt and Edge to get crotched on the top rope.
15:34The competitors get a standing ovation,
15:37the fans don't know what to expect next.
15:39Bubba and D-Vaun have the answer though,
15:41as they take Edge out with a 3D.
15:43The fans have been chanting for tables since the match began,
15:46and when the Dudleys go out to grab some furniture,
15:49the audience lose their minds.
15:51Bubba and D-Vaun create a platform by putting a table on top of two ladders.
15:55The Dudleys want to use this so they can easily grab those belts,
15:58but they get stopped by the Hardys.
16:00This gets a round of booze, by the way.
16:02So Bubba and D-Vaun take care of Matt and Jeff,
16:05they then set up a few extra tables both in and out of the ring,
16:09and while D-Vaun ends up putting himself through a table while trying a splash,
16:12Bubba has a little more luck when powerbombing Matt from the announced desk.
16:16Bubba wants D-Vaun to grab the belts while he keeps the other guys in check on the outside,
16:21Jeff tries to run the barricade but he ends up getting a ladder in the face for his efforts,
16:25but this doesn't stop Jeff from getting up and continuing the fight.
16:28He stops Bubba from placing him on another table and instead it's the Dudley Boy who gets let out,
16:34and so Jeff climbs a huge ladder at the rampway and a swanton bomb puts the Dudley Boy out of
16:40commission.
16:40This is a moment that would get replayed quite a lot in the years that followed.
16:45Our match ends with Christian and Matt Hardy fighting on top of the platform,
16:49Edge joins his brother and Matt gets pushed off,
16:52and that's it, Edge and Christian win the WWF Tag Team Championships after they grab the belts.
16:58It's a show-stealing performance, every team in this match deserved a win.
17:02Every one of these cats have worked hard on WWF TV over the past few months,
17:07and the fans would have been happy no matter the outcome.
17:10Exhilarating edge of your seat stuff at WrestleMania 2000,
17:14this one's gonna be hard to beat.
17:21In tonight's main event, every competitor in the Fatal 4-Way has a McMahon in their corner,
17:26and it was Linda McMahon who was responsible for bringing Mick Foley back for this one night only appearance
17:32at WrestleMania 2000.
17:33Linda says she's happy that Mick's getting to live his dream by competing in the Mania main event,
17:38and Mick says he's getting a second chance to make a last impression tonight.
17:42This is a fairy tale for Mick Foley,
17:44and the fairy tale will come true for Mick in the Fatal 4-Way match.
17:49Next up, it's the only singles match we've got on this show,
17:53Terry Runnels vs The Cat.
17:55This one's build is a cat fight,
17:57you gotta throw your opponent out of the ring to win,
17:59and we've also got a special referee,
18:01Val Venus.
18:02Venus says Mania comes only once a year,
18:05but Val comes every single night.
18:07Easy, low-hanging fruit right there, Mr. Valboski.
18:10And here comes Terry Runnels,
18:12accompanied to the ring by that dirty old haggard bastard,
18:15the fabulous moolah.
18:16Mae Young accompanies The Cat to the ring,
18:18and in short, this match sucked.
18:21It was insanely bad,
18:22and if you want to pick out a match to show how bad the women's division was during this time
18:27period,
18:27look no further.
18:28The competitors try to get on the referee's good side in the early going,
18:32and moments later,
18:33Val kisses both girls.
18:35After the competitors roll around for a while,
18:37Mae Young sticks Venus' hand up her top,
18:40so I guess she's already gotten over Mark Henry.
18:43Moolah and Mae try to get involved in the match,
18:45and this leads to Venus getting a big smooch from Miss Young.
18:49While distracted in this disgusting manner,
18:51the fabulous moolah is able to pull the cat out of the ring,
18:54and when the lip lock gets released,
18:56Venus awards the match to Terry.
18:58Terry wins one of the worst matches in WrestleMania history,
19:01and if that's not bad enough,
19:03we get to see Mae Young pull off a Bronco Buster.
19:06It also wouldn't be a WWF's women's match
19:09without someone getting their clothes ripped off,
19:11so Terry shows some skin against their will,
19:14and that's how it ended.
19:15Just when you think Mania's getting on the right track,
19:18the show sinks to its lowest point.
19:20But we can maybe get a little redemption in our next match.
19:24It's too cool in China taking on the Radicals,
19:27consisting of Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn,
19:29and Eddie Guerrero.
19:35Eddie Guerrero's been keeping an eye on China.
19:37He knows China can't resist his Latino heat.
19:40The 9th Wonder of the World feels a little sick
19:43when she hears this in the backstage area,
19:45so she and Too Cool head to the ring
19:47to put Eddie in his place.
19:48Over the past few months,
19:50Too Cool have seriously grown in popularity,
19:53and the fans in Anaheim love seeing the Grandmaster
19:55and Scotty come down to the ring with China,
19:57but I want to pay attention to the Radicals here.
20:00This is their big chance to shine at Wrestlemania,
20:03and it's also time for Eddie to get a little redemption
20:06after re-injuring himself back in February.
20:09Eddie winks at China,
20:10China calls him a pig.
20:11Can China resist Eddie's Latino heat?
20:14Let's find out.
20:16The match begins,
20:16and Eddie's clearly infatuated with China.
20:19Scotty's able to monkey flip Guerrero across the ring,
20:22and after a little moonwalk,
20:23Scotty tags in China.
20:25Eddie decides to run away,
20:27and he tags in Dino Machino,
20:28and Dean takes a clothesline from China
20:30before Scotty gives his partner a hand from the apron.
20:34The Grandmaster gets tagged in,
20:35we see a double suplex from Christopher and China,
20:38and when Grandmaster Sexy wants China to join him
20:41for a little dance,
20:42China happily complies.
20:43The fans love this stuff,
20:45and you gotta admit,
20:46it is kind of fun seeing China lighten up
20:49after spending so much time being all serious.
20:51Speaking of lightening up,
20:53Saturn takes the Grandmaster's do-rag,
20:56and yeah,
20:56it suits you, mate.
20:57The do-rag possesses insane magical powers,
21:00and it allows Saturn to stay in control,
21:03but he takes it off
21:03so he can tag in Latino heat once again.
21:06The Grandmaster gets suplexed,
21:08Scotty Too Hotty gets dropped across the top rope,
21:10Eddie shoots a look at China,
21:12and Jerry Lawler thinks China might be feeling the heat,
21:15and she might be getting,
21:17and I quote,
21:18moist.
21:18Yeah.
21:19We see Eddie's apron sent on,
21:21and Guerrero's clearly trying to impress China,
21:24and when the Grandmaster tries to get in the ring
21:26to smack Eddie across the face,
21:28Guerrero decides to take China out.
21:30A lovely way to show some affection, I'm sure.
21:33Too cool work together,
21:34and Eddie gets suplexed out of the ring.
21:36Saturn and Milenko get inside the ropes,
21:38but Too Cool easily take them out,
21:40and the fans get on their feet for the worm.
21:43Scotty's able to bring some pain
21:44to both Saturn and Milenko,
21:46and I'm gonna be a real stuck-up asshole here,
21:49and say,
21:50I wish Dean and Saturn were given a chance
21:53to show what they could actually do here.
21:55I really enjoy Too Cool's work,
21:57and every week on Reliving the War,
21:58I'm rediscovering just how over they were
22:01as a tag team,
22:02but WWF fans have simply not seen
22:04what Dean, Saturn, and even Guerrero
22:06can really do yet,
22:07and it sucks,
22:09because every one of these guys
22:10could out-wrestle the majority of the WWF roster.
22:14China puts her hands on the referee,
22:16so Jackdown waistlocks her,
22:17and she gets pulled away from Eddie.
22:19Saturn gets tagged in next,
22:20and he performs a standing sidekick
22:22before going up for the elbow drop.
22:24He was a bit too safe here,
22:25and he missed by a mile.
22:27Yeah, I feel like a bit of a dick now
22:29for putting these guys over,
22:31but trust me, Saturn is insanely good.
22:34Eddie's back in,
22:35he takes a superplex.
22:36After a long struggle,
22:37China gets tagged in,
22:38and now Eddie's in deep trouble.
22:40So, he crawls to his corner,
22:42China takes out Saturn and Malenko
22:44with a double clothesline.
22:46Eddie manages to avoid China again,
22:48and so she decides to deliver body slams
22:50to both Perry and Stenko Malenko.
22:52She then pulls off handspring back elbows
22:54on both radicals,
22:56something that gets the crowd going crazy,
22:58before hitting both men with low blows.
23:01Eddie's able to smack China
23:02while his radical teammates
23:03nurse their broken nuts,
23:05and when Eddie goes for a powerbomb,
23:06China reverses into a powerbomb of her own.
23:09Our match then ends with China grabbing Eddie
23:11right by his Latino heat
23:13before delivering a press slam.
23:15Poor Eddie's getting more than he bargained for here.
23:17And Guerrero does the J.O.B. at the PPV
23:20after taking China's sleeper slam.
23:22A fun match here,
23:23I do wish the radicals got a bit more time to shine,
23:26but still,
23:27it was a decent match.
23:28I'm just not sure if it was Wrestlemania worthy.
23:31Eddie and China are going to go on
23:33to do some pretty amazing things soon in the WWF.
23:36Too cool are already super popular,
23:38so where does that leave Saturn in Malenko?
23:46A fan named Bridget Binder
23:48entered the Risa Mania All Day Long contest
23:51to win tickets to the Anaheim Pond.
23:53She smokes a few cigarettes
23:54while holding her kid
23:55before getting sent off to California
23:57in the WWF private jet.
23:59Ender husband looks like he shoots overgrown rats
24:02with an unlicensed shotgun,
24:03but who am I to judge?
24:05I'm not jealous at all.
24:08Backstage, Shane McMahon says
24:09the Hemsley McMahon era is passe.
24:12The Vince McMahon days are over.
24:14The Big Show and Shane O'Mac era
24:16begins the night,
24:17and yeah,
24:18it doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?
24:22The Intercontinental and European Championships
24:24are up for grabs in our next match.
24:26Kurt Angle defends both belts
24:27against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit
24:29in a two-fall triple threat encounter.
24:31And the relationship between Bob Backlund
24:34and Kurt Angle broke down on Sunday Night Heat,
24:36thanks to Bob suggesting to WWF officials
24:39that Kurt should defend both belts.
24:41Originally, Angle was only defending
24:43his Intercontinental belt,
24:44but the first fall of this match
24:45will decide who leaves WrestleMania
24:47with the IC title,
24:48and the second fall determines
24:50who leaves with the European title.
24:52Yeah, it's a bit weird,
24:53the IC belt gets defended
24:54before the European belt,
24:56and I always found this to be a little dumb.
24:58But we've got three great talents here,
25:00and hopefully they put on a good show.
25:02Kurt Angle's extremely confident,
25:04he tries to secure himself
25:05some extra security
25:06for his post-match celebration
25:08within the crowd,
25:09but Benoit and Jericho look determined
25:11as they make their way down to the ring.
25:13Jericho says he can't guarantee
25:14he'll leave with a belt tonight,
25:16I love the confidence,
25:18but he does guarantee
25:19he'll leave WrestleMania 2000,
25:21still the Ayatollah of Rock'n'Rollah.
25:26The match starts off a bit cagey,
25:28with all competitors getting in some offense,
25:30but no one really taking control.
25:32A Y2J dropkick sends Benoit out of the ring,
25:35but when Jericho goes for his springboard dropkick on Angle,
25:38Benoit gets a little revenge.
25:40Jericho tries again,
25:41he manages to send both of his opponents to the outside,
25:44but Chris gets too confident,
25:45and Angle's able to drop him on the ring steps.
25:48The crowd are a little flat here,
25:49and I do think this WrestleMania
25:51would have benefited from a different match order.
25:53Maybe putting this one on first could have helped,
25:56but maybe Ice-T had places to be,
25:58I don't know.
25:59Belly to belly from Kurt Angle,
26:00who clothesline from Benoit.
26:02Jericho gets a little aggressive in the corner,
26:04but when he goes upstairs,
26:05he gets knocked to the outside.
26:07This gives Angle and Benoit the opportunity
26:08to do some work in the ring uninterrupted,
26:11but Benoit only gets in a snap suplex
26:13and a back suplex before Y2J comes back in.
26:16Missile dropkick from Jericho to Kurt,
26:18backbreaker from Benoit to Jericho.
26:21All three men begin sharing offense again,
26:23in, yeah, triple threat matches, man.
26:26I've mentioned this a lot in the past,
26:28but I'm not a huge fan of these match types,
26:30and after watching all these multi-man contests
26:32at Mania 2000,
26:34I really do wish this was a one-on-one encounter.
26:36I don't care who would have competed in it,
26:39any combination of these three men would have been fine.
26:42Chris Jericho goes for a double underhook backbreaker,
26:45and Angle counters into the crossface chicken wing,
26:47a move he was taught by Bob Backlund.
26:50Benoit breaks the hold with a dropkick
26:51before sending Angle into the audience
26:53when the action spills to the outside,
26:55and Chris Benoit performs his diving headbutt on Jericho
26:58before securing a pinfall victory.
27:01Benoit is now the intercontinental champion,
27:03and Angle wasn't even involved in the decision.
27:06Chris then tries to pin Jericho again
27:08right after the bell,
27:10but Angle makes it back inside the ropes.
27:12And so now,
27:13the European Championship match begins,
27:15and Angle's pissed.
27:16He goes up for a moonsault,
27:18it gets stopped by Jericho,
27:20Benoit then joins both competitors in the corner,
27:22and Jericho takes a back suplex,
27:24allowing Kurt to go for that moonsault again.
27:26He may have missed,
27:27but his rotation still looked pretty awesome.
27:30Jericho and Kurt get back to their feet,
27:32as does the crowd when Chris goes for the waltz of Jericho,
27:35but Benoit breaks it up with a clothesline.
27:37Still, Jericho remains resilient,
27:39and he takes Benoit out with a spinning wheel kick
27:41before Kurt gets planted with Jericho's double powerbomb.
27:44When Benoit gets back in,
27:46Jericho takes the multiple German suplexes,
27:48and Kurt has to save his European title
27:50by breaking up Benoit's cover.
27:52The referee takes a bump after a Y2J flan forearm,
27:56and Benoit applies a crossface immediately afterwards.
27:59Jericho taps,
28:00Tim White still knocked out,
28:02and when Jericho locks in the walls,
28:04Angle grabs the IC belt,
28:05and he smacks Chris right in the face.
28:07We're going into clusterfuck territory here ever so slightly.
28:11Benoit breaks Angle's cover,
28:13he goes up for another headbutt,
28:14but Kurt moves out of the way.
28:16This allows Jericho to deliver the lion's soul to Benoit,
28:19and Chris Jericho becomes the European champion.
28:21Kurt Angle's lost both of his championship belts
28:24without getting pinned and without submitting,
28:26and so Kurt, naturally,
28:28isn't very happy.
28:29For some reason,
28:30I always remembered this match being better than what it was,
28:33but it feels like one of those triple threat matches
28:35that wasn't really planned out all that well in advance.
28:39A lot of filler stuff before the actual finishes.
28:41It wasn't terrible or anything,
28:43I just remember it being better.
28:50Vince McMahon,
28:52who's going to be in The Rock's corner in tonight's main event,
28:54reminds everyone that he's going to make things right tonight at Wrestlemania.
28:58He heard his family being described as dysfunctional,
29:01he doesn't necessarily agree with that sentiment,
29:04but Triple H doesn't care what McMahon thinks,
29:06and Triple H doesn't care what McMahon tries to do in this main event.
29:10Hunter wants to prove he's the game,
29:12he's going to show why he's the WWF champion,
29:15and it's all because Triple H is that damn good.
29:19Hunter's buddies,
29:20Road Dogg and X-Pac are in action next,
29:22it's our WrestleMania semi-main event,
29:24DX vs. Kane and Rikishi.
29:26The real story of this match centers around kids
29:29stealing Tory away from the big red machine.
29:31Again,
29:32it's a missed opportunity to have a singles match in my opinion,
29:35and you gotta keep in mind too,
29:37that Pete Rose is on location tonight.
29:39Kane and Pete have some WrestleMania history,
29:41but I'm sure you know that already.
29:44Tory smacks Paul Bearer on the outside,
29:46Kane goes out to help his...
29:47his dad,
29:49and this allows DX to get in a few cheap shots on Rikishi.
29:52Kane's able to grab Tory,
29:54X-Pac runs out to save his girlfriend,
29:56but back in the ring,
29:57the Road Dogg takes a sting face,
29:59and Tory then finds herself in the ring with the big man.
30:02Fortunately,
30:02she gets saved by X-Pac and Road Dogg,
30:04and when DX try to leave the match,
30:07they get followed up the entranceway.
30:08When the match gets back in the ring,
30:10X-Pac's able to deliver the Bronco Buster to Rikishi,
30:13Road Dogg then delivers a dancey punch,
30:15and a dancey knee,
30:17a rarity these days,
30:18but Bronco Buster's and dancey moves
30:20aren't enough to keep Big Kish down,
30:22and the big man begins no-selling X-Pac's offense.
30:25We see a Rikishi cutter before Kane gets tagged in,
30:28and the big red machine has one thing on his mind,
30:31the absolute destruction of D-Generation X.
30:34X-Pac and Road Dogg are no match for Kane and Rikishi here,
30:37so Paul sends Tory into the ring
30:39to see if she can fare any better.
30:41Fans think she's about to get chokeslammed,
30:43but instead she gets put in the corner for Rikishi's stink face,
30:47and there it is,
30:48top-tier grappling tonight at Wrestlemania.
30:51X-Pac gets tombstoned,
30:53DX take a loss at Wrestlemania,
30:55and I guess Kane got his retribution tonight,
30:57but I still would've preferred a singles match here,
31:00the storyline definitely called for one.
31:03Too Cool comes down to the ring,
31:04we might be seeing Kane get down tonight for a little boogie,
31:07but then the San Diego chicken also shows up in Kane,
31:11naturally thinks it's Pete Rose under the costume.
31:13The chicken dances with Too Cool and Rikishi,
31:16Kane stands back for a moment,
31:18but after the dance,
31:19Kane decides to go for the kill,
31:21and it's not Pete Rose under the chicken costume.
31:24Pete shows up from behind holding a baseball bat,
31:27Rikishi stops Pete from doing any damage,
31:30Rose then takes a chokeslam,
31:31Paul Bear tells Pete to suck it,
31:33which was a real highlight of this match,
31:35truth be told,
31:36and Rikishi gives old Pete a stink face.
31:38Let's move on and get this show wrapped up.
31:46It's time for the Wrestlemania 2000 main event,
31:49Triple H defending his WWF championship
31:51against the Big Show, Mick Foley,
31:53and The Rock in a fatal four-way elimination match.
31:56The Rock was announced as the Royal Rumble winner
31:58back in January,
31:59but video footage proved that The Rock's feet
32:01hit the floor before the Big Show's
32:03at the very end of the Rumble match.
32:05Big Show was rightfully pissed off,
32:07so he spent weeks gaining evidence
32:09to prove that he was the actual winner
32:11of the Royal Rumble.
32:12Triple H and Stephanie gave Big Show
32:14a match against Rock at No Way Out,
32:16the winner would face Hunter at Wrestlemania,
32:18in the Big Show won after Shane McMahon returned
32:20to interfere in the match.
32:22Also at No Way Out,
32:23Triple H retired Mick Foley
32:25after beating him inside Hell in a Cell.
32:28For the next few weeks,
32:29Rock tried everything to get included
32:30in the Wrestlemania main event,
32:32but Triple H, Stephanie, Big Show,
32:34and Shane put up a lot of roadblocks.
32:36It got to a point where Rock had to put his career
32:39on the line just to get one last opportunity,
32:41and while availing of this opportunity,
32:43Vince McMahon made his WWF return,
32:45and he helped Rock win the match.
32:47Vince has gotten fed up
32:48with the McMahon-Hemsley era,
32:49he's fed up with Stephanie and Shane,
32:52he wanted to take control of his company again,
32:54and if Rock can win the championship tonight,
32:56then the McMahon-Hemsley era will collapse
32:58without Triple H standing tall as WWF champion.
33:02Linda McMahon brought back Mick Foley,
33:04Mick's dream was the headline Wrestlemania,
33:06and that dream comes true tonight.
33:08In reality, Mick was actually retired,
33:10and Vince wanted to give him the Mania main event
33:12as a way to say thank you for all his hard work.
33:15Plus, Foley simply couldn't turn down
33:17a sweet Wrestlemania paycheck.
33:19Every competitor has a McMahon in their corner,
33:22and the McMahons aren't afraid to get involved
33:23when opportunities arise.
33:25The Rock, however, is laser-focused as he says,
33:28it's not about Stephanie's marriage,
33:30the Triple H,
33:31it's not about the McMahon family,
33:33it's not even about Foley's retirement,
33:35it's all about the WWF championship.
33:38Tonight, The Rock's gonna do what he does best,
33:40he's gonna do it for the millions and millions of Rocks fans.
33:43Tonight is the night,
33:44if you smell what The Rock's cooking.
33:46Mick Foley's out first with Linda McMahon.
33:49This isn't Mankind, Dude Love, or Cactus Jack,
33:52it's just Mick Foley, which is a nice touch, I think.
33:55Kinda like the man himself is in the Mania main event,
33:58and not a gimmick.
33:59Big Show and Shane come out next,
34:00and I can't imagine many people were hoping for the Big Show to win tonight.
34:04The Rock marches out alongside Mr. McMahon,
34:06The Rock has to be considered the favorite here tonight,
34:09after his long road to Wrestlemania.
34:10And finally, we've got the WWF champion,
34:13and his wife, Stephanie.
34:14These two have turned the WWF upside down
34:16ever since the McMahon-Hemsley era came into play,
34:19but Wrestlemania main events haven't been kinda heels in the past.
34:23Who's gonna win the Fatal 4-Way elimination match at Wrestlemania 2000?
34:27It's time to find out.
34:36The men begin throwing down as JR reminds us
34:39that eliminations can only happen after pinfalls.
34:42This was a ruling made by Vince McMahon.
34:44Mick Foley lights Triple H up,
34:46and the WWF champion takes a running knee strike,
34:48and after Big Show gets done wrecking The Rock,
34:51he delivers a double clothesline to Hunter and Mick.
34:53The coalition is truly over as Big Show bails Triple H across the ring,
34:57and The Rock then takes a press slam from The Big Man.
35:00The Big Show's dominating everyone here.
35:02Mick has to rake The Big Show's face in an effort to slow him down,
35:05but Mick gets flattened by The Big Man
35:07the exact same way he got flattened back at Halloween Havoc 93.
35:11Triple H jumps from the top rope,
35:13Show catches him for a chokeslam,
35:14but Mick Foley saves the WWF champion,
35:17and to repay the favor,
35:18both Triple H and The Rock help Mick take The Big Show down.
35:21All three men join forces for just a moment
35:23as they lay the boots into The Big Man,
35:25but Foley and Hunter can't help themselves,
35:27and these two begin fighting with each other.
35:29They tumble out of the ring,
35:30where Mick delivers a chair shot into the game's midsection,
35:33and then that little bastard Shane tries to trip Rock up from the outside.
35:37This backfires when Rock knocks Shane off the apron,
35:40and Mick delivers a chair shot The Big Show's back,
35:42and after a rock bottom, The Big Show gets eliminated.
35:45Should have saw this coming, really,
35:46after how dominant The Big Man was in such a short period of time.
35:50It takes ages before Shane and The Big Show finally head back up the ramp,
35:53and back in the ring,
35:54the remaining competitors try to work out some sort of alliance.
35:58In the end, Rock and Triple H agree to take Mick out,
36:00so they can finally settle their differences with no interruptions,
36:04but Rock quickly turns on Hunter,
36:06and the crowd pops huge for this.
36:08The Rock and Sock connection kick the shit out of Triple H
36:10for maybe the last time ever.
36:12Hunter gets knocked between both guys,
36:14as Rock and Mick deliver right hands.
36:16We see a double clothesline next,
36:17before the action spills to the outside,
36:19and the Rock and Sock connection continue to team up
36:21in order to keep the game down.
36:23Mick passes the ring bell to Rock,
36:25he holds Triple H up,
36:27Rock swings the weapon,
36:28and Foley gets hit, accidentally.
36:30Hunter thinks he's in prime position to win this thing now,
36:33but Mick produces his trusty 2x4 wrapped in barbed wire,
36:36but a low blow leads to Mick dropping the weapon.
36:39Hunter takes it away,
36:40Foley takes a shot,
36:41and before Hunter can do any damage,
36:43The Rock gets back in the ring.
36:45Within no time at all,
36:46Rock's sent back to the outside,
36:48but Foley's able to hit Triple H with his double arm DDT.
36:51Mr. Socko makes an appearance at Wrestlemania,
36:54and the mandible claw gets applied.
36:55Rock tells Mick to release the hold
36:57so The Great One can smack the champ with his own title belt,
37:00but then,
37:00when Rock goes for a people's elbow,
37:02Mick applies the mandible claw to The Great One.
37:05The crowd don't know how to react here,
37:07but it doesn't matter,
37:08because Triple H delivers a double low blow,
37:11and we're back to square one.
37:13Everyone,
37:13the fans,
37:14the commentators,
37:15the competitors,
37:16everyone's forgotten that The Big Show was in this match just moments ago.
37:19A complete afterthought in every sense of the word.
37:23Vince McMahon puts a steel chair in the ring
37:25as the competitors hit each other with clotheslines.
37:28Mick's also able to hit Rock with his double arm DDT before noticing the chair,
37:32so Foley grabs it,
37:33he runs into Rock,
37:35but Rock gets a boot up in the corner.
37:37We see a DDT from The Great One,
37:39Triple H breaks up the cover for some reason,
37:41Mick and Hunter realize how dangerous Rock is right now,
37:44so they decide to form an alliance,
37:47and the crowd boos as Rock gets worked over by both men.
37:50The Rock takes a double clothesline before we go outside again,
37:53he digs down deep and he manages to throw Foley into the ring steps,
37:57Foley decides he's gonna lift those steps though,
37:59and Rock gets his brain scrambled.
38:01And now,
38:02it's time for the big table spot,
38:04the big table spot that Mick messed up because he didn't get enough distance.
38:08Foley laughs about this nowadays,
38:09he thought he might have seriously injured himself,
38:12but all he was worried about was potentially missing a day at Disneyland,
38:16the day after Wrestlemania.
38:18Triple H tries to break the table,
38:19but he too doesn't have much luck,
38:21so one more shot from the barrier finally gets the job done,
38:25but it wasn't a spectacular bump at all.
38:27It actually looked a bit sad.
38:30Back in the ring,
38:30the game pedigrees Mick Foley,
38:32and somehow Foley gets his shoulder up,
38:34Hunter takes it out on the poor referee,
38:36and the game then picks up the chair before cracking it around Foley's face.
38:39One more pedigree on a steel chair takes Foley out of the match,
38:43so we're down to Rock in Triple H.
38:45The fans are not happy with Mick getting eliminated at all,
38:49but Foley gives the fans something to cheer for when he raises his hand outside the ring.
38:53The pop here is pretty incredible,
38:55and a loud Foley chant breaks out as Mick heads back up the ramp.
38:58But,
38:58Mick wants to leave Triple H with a little parting gift.
39:01He heads back in the ring,
39:03and he uses his 2x4 to get in one last shot to Triple H,
39:06and so the game enters the last portion of this match at a serious disadvantage.
39:15The Rock tries to cover Hunter after the attack by Mick Foley,
39:19but the champ kicks out,
39:20so the match continues on like most WWF pay-per-view events of this era,
39:24up the entrance way and through the audience.
39:27We see all the usual spots here,
39:29such as a suplex on the ramp and the guys throwing each other into the entrance setup,
39:33and when the two get done brawling through the audience,
39:35The Rock tries to use the ring steps,
39:37but this plan backfires.
39:39Hunter smacks the steps over and over again with a steel chair,
39:42and things look bleak for Rocky after a pile driver on the base of the steps.
39:46JR thinks the match should be stopped,
39:48and I love the extra drama JR brings to these big main events.
39:52No one does it like Jim Ross.
39:54Back in the ring,
39:55Triple H avoids a rock bottom,
39:57though Rock avoids a pedigree.
39:58This little exchange goes over well with the audience,
40:01but moments later we're going right back through the audience,
40:04which, for viewers at home, totally sucks.
40:07No one will ever convince me otherwise.
40:09When the two get back to the ringside area,
40:11Rock performs a spinebuster on the floor before the two move over to the commentary table.
40:16A suplex breaks the table on the first attempt,
40:18and both Stephanie and Vince look a bit worried.
40:21Right now, this is anyone's match,
40:23and neither man's getting any kind of advantage.
40:25Vince McMahon gets involved,
40:27he throws Hunter into the ring post before putting the champ back in the ring.
40:31The boy wonders,
40:32Shane McMahon then returns to the ringside to beat up his dad a little,
40:35and Shane does a pretty good job here as he cracks Vince over the head with a TV monitor.
40:40Something that really shocks Stephanie McMahon.
40:43Like a zombie,
40:44Vince is able to get right back up.
40:45His son's busted him open,
40:47but this naturally makes the chairman mad.
40:49So Vince throws a few punches at his own flesh and blood,
40:52and Shane takes a few shots.
40:54Shane's able to hit a low blow,
40:55though, and he follows this up by hitting his dad with a chair.
40:59So,
40:59it looks like Vince McMahon is now out of the equation.
41:03He gets brought up the ramp,
41:04and he shouldn't be a factor any longer.
41:06The match resumes,
41:07Hunter takes a DDT followed by a tilt-a-whirl power slam.
41:10The Rock's unable to keep the champ down for a three count,
41:13and Triple H is able to fight back by hitting Rock with McFoley's 2x4.
41:17Shane then gets in the ring,
41:19and the spot here was really badly timed.
41:22Because Rock counters a pedigree with a catapult,
41:24yet Shane didn't move out of the way,
41:26and instead,
41:27he gets the WWF champion coming at him at full speed.
41:29The boy wonder then has an opportunity to swing the chair after Rock delivers a rock bottom to Hunter,
41:35but Mr. McMahon runs down to take Shane out.
41:38So fans think Rock has it in the bag,
41:40it should now be a fair fight.
41:42That no-good bastard Vince ends up swerving everyone, though,
41:46when he swings the chair at Rocky.
41:48The look on Stephanie's face tells the whole story.
41:51And when Rock kicks out of Hunter's cover,
41:53Vince hits Rocky one more time,
41:55and that's it over.
41:57Triple H retains his WWF championship in the Wrestlemania main event,
42:00and Vince is turned heel once again.
42:02The fans are livid,
42:04heels aren't supposed to win in the Wrestlemania main event, you know,
42:07but the WWF bucks tradition for Wrestlemania 2000,
42:10and the fans decide to throw garbage in the ring,
42:12as Vince and Stephanie embrace.
42:15It looks like Vince wants to make peace with Shane too,
42:17but before that can happen,
42:19The Rock hits the ring to send the crowd home somewhat happy.
42:22Shane and Vince both take rock bottoms,
42:24and to try to make it up to the fans,
42:26Rock delivers a rock bottom to Stephanie,
42:28followed by a people's elbow.
42:30Hunter tried to help his wife,
42:31but Rock just smacked him off the apron.
42:33Still, this isn't the outcome fans wanted to see,
42:36Triple H rules the WWF main event scene,
42:39the game has now become unstoppable,
42:41and it looks like Vince McMahon is now fully in support
42:44of the McMahon-Helmsley era.
42:52Wrestlemania 2000 isn't a good show.
42:55The triangle ladder match was great,
42:57the Too Cool in China vs. Radicals match was alright,
43:00as was Jericho vs. Angle vs. Benoit,
43:03but this event is way too overloaded with multi-man matches,
43:07and yes, I know that's a common and easy complaint to make,
43:10but it's true.
43:11I'm not against Triple H winning the main event either,
43:14but the McMahon bollocks was a bit overdone.
43:17Actually, it was completely overdone,
43:19seeing as the main event centered around the whole family.
43:22So in the end,
43:23we have a Wrestlemania that kinda goes against everything
43:25we've come to know about the biggest show of the year,
43:28and in that respect,
43:29I don't think it worked.
43:30It's just way too overloaded and overbooked,
43:33and it's a shame too,
43:34because WWF Weekly TV during this era has been fantastic,
43:38as you guys know who watch Reliving the War every week.
43:41That being said,
43:42Wrestlemania 2000 is leagues better than WCW's uncensored 2000 show,
43:48comparing the two is really like a bad joke,
43:50but this event ranks pretty low on my favorite manias of all time list,
43:54and watching it again for this video
43:56didn't change my overall opinion of the event.
43:59But thank you very much for watching,
44:01we have one more Wrestlemania to look at before Reliving the War ends,
44:04so we're now officially one year away from the series finale.
44:08Join me on Thursday for the Mania 2000 Fallout,
44:10and please, take care.
