04:08Scott Hall's been stripped of the US title due to injury and Chris Benoit's been awarded the championship.
04:13Chris comes to the ring, he says he came here to fight, so as far as Benoit sees it, the
04:18championship is actually vacated and he still wants to compete tonight in a ladder match.
04:23Chris issues an open challenge for the title and we'll find out who answers that challenge in our semi-main
04:28event.
04:29Next, it's the Evan Courageous vs Medusa cruiserweight title match. Evan done the dirty on Medusa and he's now with
04:35Nitro Girl Spice. What a dirty, dirty young man.
04:39Medusa takes her sweet time performing a diving attack from the apron. Evan then takes a bump at the ring's
04:44steps.
04:44Inside the ring, Medusa dares Evan to hit her and it only takes a slap to the face for Evan
04:49to punch Medusa in the jaw.
04:50After a power slam, Evan goes for a top rope land salt, but he misses by a mile.
04:55Medusa performs a middle rope dropkick, Evan fires back with a sit-down powerbomb.
04:59Medusa then tries to powerbomb Courageous and Evan narrowly escapes disaster by tucking his chin in at the very last
05:06moment.
05:07Courageous performs a dive to the outside, he throws Medusa back inside the ropes.
05:11Spice wants to give her boyfriend a kiss and there it is. Swerve bro.
05:15Spice pulls off the most awkward low blow in the history of pro wrestling and Medusa becomes cruiserweight champion after
05:21a German suplex.
05:23A pretty historic moment for sure.
05:25Medusa is the first woman in WCW to hold a championship that was traditionally held by men only.
05:30It's a shame really that the match was an absolute travesty and Medusa in particular was terrible throughout most of
05:36the bout.
05:36The first bad match we've had at Starrcade 99.
05:40Backstage, Norman Smiley says he's worried about facing Mingda Knight, but he's not scared.
05:44He then almost has a heart attack when a producer walks by, so I think our main man might be
05:49just a bit on edge.
05:50As a matter of fact, Mean Gene confirms that Norman just soiled his pants, so that's not good.
05:56Screamin' Norman brings a dumpster to the ring filled with all sorts of goodies.
05:59We of course have the usual search container for some sweet, sweet product placement,
06:04but clearly the minger isn't a fan of carbonated sugar drinks.
06:07Our hardcore title match begins with Norman getting bowled over with his very own dumpster.
06:12He then takes a few trash can shots as the two immediately head to the backstage area.
06:16The minger gets hit with the steel chair as Norman tries to build some offence,
06:20but he screams when Ming no-sells a trash can shot.
06:23Poor, poor Norman.
06:25Ming goes on offence and Smiley finds himself in trouble as the two end up in the catering area.
06:29It seems there's nothing the champ can do to hurt the challenger and Smiley finds himself in trouble again after
06:35going through a table.
06:36Thankfully, he finds a fire extinguisher and he tries to blind his opponent,
06:40but this doesn't work and Norman decides to jump back into the catering area.
06:45What a guy.
06:47At this very moment, Ming gets attacked by complete tit Brian Nobbs and Fit Finlay.
06:51Nobbs has completed his training, it would seem, and now he thinks he's some sort of badass.
06:56He's changed his look, but he still looks like a tit.
06:58And even though Ming tries his best to fight these two off, he unfortunately goes down after Fit hits him
07:04with a lead pipe.
07:05Norman has no idea what happened, but he notices that Ming's been hurt,
07:08so the champ pins his opponent and he runs off with a pinfall victory.
07:12Fantastic.
07:13Nick Patrick then checks on Ming, but this was a mistake,
07:16because our match loser wakes up and Nasty Nick gets put in the tong and death grip.
07:25David Flair, the absolute stud that he is, receives another present backstage.
07:30It's maybe the greatest present of all, a gold crowbar.
07:33He could have done with a new shirt, seeing as he's repping Halloween Havoc right here instead of, you know,
07:38Starrcade.
07:39Oklahoma's then seen getting prepared with Steve Williams, but seconds later he gets abducted by the misfits.
07:45Vampiro's facing Dr. Death a bit later on and it looks like Oklahoma won't be able to interfere.
07:50Hacksaw Jim Duggan was originally scheduled to team up with two partners to face the revolution tonight,
07:55but now he's getting three partners.
07:57Shane Douglas is going to compete tonight, though he's still got a bad arm and he's still going to spend
08:01his time at the commentary table.
08:03If the revolution win tonight, then Duggan has to denounce the USA.
08:06If Duggan's team wins, then the revolution are going to become janitors for 30 days.
08:11Hacksaw announces his partners and it's the varsity club.
08:15The varsity club with Leah Miao, who was better known as Kimona in ECW.
08:20A good little throwback here for old school WCW fans for sure, and this also means that Kevin Sullivan is
08:26still too legit to quit.
08:27Rick Steiner and Mike Rotundo's here too, and I don't really know about this.
08:32The varsity club weren't very nice people, and I think I can smell another swerve coming up, bros.
08:37My swervey senses are tingling.
08:39Duggan and the boys make easy work of Perry Sattern.
08:42Sattern gets knocked around in the opposing corner before Dean Malenko comes in.
08:46Dino Maschino doesn't have much luck either, and it takes both he and Sattern to do a little teamwork to
08:51put Hacksaw down.
08:52Sattern tags back in, he pulls off a springboard dropkick.
08:55He then misses a moonsault, and Jim has the perfect chance to tag out, but he doesn't do it.
09:00As a matter of fact, not a single member of the varsity club gets legally tagged in.
09:04The boys are forced into the ring when Duggan finds himself in a bad spot and the revolution get cleaned
09:09out.
09:09The crowd pops for Kevin Sullivan's tree of woe knee attack while Shane Douglas screams, this stinks, into the headset.
09:16It's here when the varsity club turn on Duggan though, as expected.
09:20Hacksaw takes a clothesline to the back of the head from Mike Rotundo and the club launch an attack.
09:25It all ends with Duggan taking a low blow from Kevin Sullivan, and this allows Shane Douglas to slide into
09:30the ring and get a pinfall victory.
09:31The franchise rubs it in, he reminds Hacksaw that tomorrow night on Nitro he must denounce the United States,
09:37and, yep, another pretty bad match here at Starrcade 99.
09:41The initial pop for the varsity club was pretty good, and it showed us that WCW still had a lot
09:46of their older fanbase in attendance,
09:49but still, the match wasn't good.
09:56If Vampiro can beat Steve Williams in our next match, he'll get 5 minutes all alone with Oklahoma,
10:01and the misfits have put Oklahoma in a shark cage to make sure he lives up to his word.
10:06So Dr. Death makes his Starrcade return after last competing at the event in 1992,
10:11and the match begins with Vampiro jumping on him after diving from the shark cage.
10:15Williams tries his best to fight back on the outside, but when the action gets in the ring, he takes
10:19a few kicks in the corner.
10:20Oklahoma's calling the action from his cage, and even if his shtick was funny, it's already seriously played out.
10:26Vampiro and Williams chop each other, Dr. Death then performs a few of his signature tackles.
10:31Oklahoma gets a bit worried when Vampiro replies with a back suplex,
10:34but Williams stops a top rope attack with a huge northern light suplex from upstairs.
10:38The move of the match so far.
10:40Dr. Death takes the misfits out, making the band look like a bunch of jabronis.
10:44This allows Vampiro to hit his spinning front kick, but Williams counters a spinning wheel kick with a back suplex.
10:50Honestly, I was just starting to get into this one, and I was enjoying seeing the old Steve Williams back
10:55for just a moment,
10:56but then he gets himself DQ'd when he won't stop attacking vampy balls and he pushes the referee.
11:01So that's it, Vampiro's got 5 minutes all alone with Oklahoma to do whatever he pleases,
11:06and this would end up being Steve Williams' final match in WCW before returning to Japan.
11:11Doug Dillinger's band of merry men come out to remove Dr. Death from the ring,
11:15Oklahoma's now understandably shitting himself,
11:18the crowd are chanting boring even though this was supposed to be the payoff for the feud,
11:22and what's maybe worse is the fact that Oklahoma actually beats Vampiro up a little when he gets released from
11:28the cage.
11:29Vampiro takes a kick to the chest, followed by a DDT,
11:32Oklahoma thinks he's done a fantastic job, but he ends up taking a chop and that's when the misfits get
11:37involved.
11:37Vampiro performs a uranage before he and the misfits have fun at Oklahoma's expense,
11:42and yeah, you're basically seeing someone cosplay as Jim Ross getting beat up by 5 guys in a WCW ring.
11:50After the beatdown, for some reason, Vampiro pins Oklahoma,
11:54and all this just ruins what could have been a good match between Williams and Vampiro.
12:00Creative Control and Kurt Hennig take on Harlem Heat in Midnight next,
12:04and both teams are having some issues.
12:06The powers that be don't seem all that interested in this match as Russo says something big's gonna happen later
12:12on,
12:12and he more or less forgot the six-man tag was gonna take place,
12:16and as for Harlem Heat, Stevie Ray's fed up with Midnight causing friction between the brothers.
12:20As a matter of fact, Stevie tells Booker he won't have his back in this upcoming match,
12:25and Stevie does not come down to the ring alongside Booker.
12:29This means we've got a 3-on-2 match right here,
12:31and the winners of this one become the number one contenders for the tag team belts.
12:35I assume that means Creative Control would get the opportunity even if Hennig wins the match for his team,
12:40and even though Booker and Midnight put up a good fight,
12:42it didn't take long for the numbers game to come into play.
12:45Keep in mind too that Shane was standing on the outside.
12:48The babyfaces were already at a severe disadvantage,
12:51and Shane still interfered.
12:53In the end, Stevie Ray did come out, but Booker told him to get lost.
12:57Stevie decides to hang around though, and he even gets on the apron for a brief moment,
13:01but he then decides to argue with Midnight on the outside,
13:04and this allows Kurt to use those brass nooks that don't look like brass nooks,
13:07but we'll call them brass nooks anyway.
13:09Booker gets pinned, Harlem Heat won't be challenging for the tag team belts,
13:13and so far, the best match on this card's been the opener.
13:16Everything else has been booked like a Nitro match with a slightly extended run time.
13:20Next, it's the bunkhouse brawl between Dustin Rhodes and Jeff Jarrett.
13:24This one's been building up for a while on Nitro,
13:27and Dustin says, before the match,
13:29that Double J's gonna bite the dust after Jarrett talked bad about Dustin's dad.
13:33Jarrett launches an early attack in the backstage area,
13:36the two make their way to the main arena,
13:38and we see Double J's wearing chops that he didn't bother buckling up.
13:41That right there is hardcore, ladies and gents,
13:44or sorry, that's bunkhouse.
13:46Bunkhouse-ery, I don't know.
13:48Jarrett uses his little wheelbarrow to take Rhodes for a short ride,
13:51though Jarrett's ride was even shorter.
13:53In Back in the Ring, Dustin uses a big stick to do some damage.
13:56A bullrope then comes into play as Double J gets tied up
13:59and whacked over the head with a cowbell.
14:01This continues over at the commentary table,
14:03and the bell makes a satisfying clunk as it bounces off Jarrett's head.
14:06The two get back in the ring where we see Dustin's pet his monthly subscription
14:10to HBK's Sniff Sniff Delivery Service,
14:13and Jarrett gets blinded by the white powder.
14:16Rhodes takes his belt off,
14:17and not only does he hit Double J,
14:19he also hits the referee.
14:20He then brings Billy Silverman to the corner
14:22where the referee gets taped to the ring ropes
14:24before getting a piece of tape stuck over his mouth.
14:27And do remember that a bunkhouse brawl can only end via pinfall or submission.
14:31We have no one to call for the bell.
14:33Kurt Hennig ends up coming out to save the referee.
14:36The commentators speculate that Kurt must have been sent out by the powers that be
14:39as Double J breaks a stick over Dustin's back.
14:42The audience boos as Jarrett applies a bunkhouse sleeper hold,
14:46tough crowd tonight at Starrcade.
14:48The hole stays in for way, way too long,
14:50and they don't seem too bothered when Dustin breaks free.
14:53Jarrett gets set up for shattered dreams,
14:55and Dustin deals with Hennig before kicking Double J in the nutsack.
14:59That's my purse!
15:00I don't know you!
15:03Hennig suffers the same fate as his guitar swinging friend,
15:07but this allows Double J to recover a little.
15:09Rhodes and Jarrett begin making their way up the entranceway,
15:12and Dustin shows off his sick karate skills
15:14while holding on to an entranceway truss,
15:16and no, Dustin was not trained in the Milvog Dojo.
15:19Can you tell?
15:20Our match ends when Hennig tries to help out Jeff once again,
15:24and this allows Jarrett to climb up a conveniently placed ladder.
15:27Dustin gets a guitar broken over his head,
15:30and Jarrett wins via pinfall.
15:31I thought this was okay, it was a decent brawl,
15:34and the only nitpick I have really
15:36is the long sleeper hold towards the end of the match.
15:44Look at that bear!
15:46Oh!
15:47Now that your daddy's gone,
15:49you walk around here thinking you are someone.
15:51But David Flair, you could have had it all,
15:53but the unfortunate truth is you suck big balls.
16:06Right, David Flair vs. Diamond Dallas Page.
16:09It was Flair Jr. who put Page on the bench after a crowbar attack,
16:12so Dallas wants some revenge.
16:14The crowbar's getting put on a pole, bro.
16:16How original.
16:17And if you can retrieve said crowbar,
16:19you can use it against your opponent,
16:21though you still gotta win via pinfall or submission.
16:24Page calls himself the king of bat-a-bing,
16:26bat-a-boom, bat-a-bang,
16:28though he doesn't look like it
16:29when David bat-a-bangs him with his gold crowbar
16:31before the opening bell.
16:33Good man.
16:33David thinks he's won the match,
16:35but Charles Robinson tells Flair Jr. to get a life kid,
16:38though David continues to celebrate
16:40while Page stays on the outside.
16:42Charles Robinson checks on Dallas,
16:43and he decides DDP can't continue the match,
16:45so he tells Dave Penzer to make the announcement,
16:48but Dallas is having none of it.
16:50Page shoves Penzer away,
16:51and he tries to get back in the ring
16:53while David's brain continues to melt.
16:55Page gets inside the ropes,
16:57it's time for David to fire up
16:58and show us all what he can do,
17:00and, uh, okay.
17:02He delivers a few knee strikes,
17:03and Page tries to steal the win with a quick roll-up.
17:06David breaks free,
17:07and he pulls off this glorious double-X handle.
17:09Well done, David.
17:10Page fights from the canvas,
17:12and he tries to get back in the match.
17:13He knows David isn't much of an athlete,
17:16so he decides to slam himself in the middle of the ring,
17:18but young Flair puts me in my place
17:20when he pulls off a nice sunset flip
17:22followed by a DDT.
17:23I mean, he's no Shawn Michaels,
17:25but just those two moves alone
17:27show us a lot of improvement.
17:29Flair chokes his opponent out,
17:30he celebrates immediately afterwards,
17:32Dallas takes exception to this,
17:34but Flair comes back with a clothesline.
17:36Even the commentators are surprised
17:37by David's in-ring work.
17:39Page answers with a clothesline of his own,
17:41but Flair's able to go for the crowbar.
17:43Page follows,
17:44but he ends up taking a low blow.
17:46And after a body slam,
17:47young Flair locks in the figure four.
17:49Like father, like son.
17:51If your son sucked.
17:53DDP breaks the hole,
17:54but David's still able to grab the crowbar.
17:56This is David's big moment, folks.
17:58Here it comes,
17:59here it...
18:00No, wait,
18:01diamond cutter.
18:02DDP wins via pinfall,
18:04but a moral victory for David here.
18:06It was short,
18:07it wasn't spectacular,
18:08but it was still David's best match to date.
18:10DDP sets Flair up on the top rope for a supercutter,
18:13because why not?
18:14But then,
18:15when Page goes to use the crowbar,
18:17that girl who submitted the nitro tape two weeks ago runs down to protect Flair.
18:21She must have been the one who sent David the presence on nitro
18:24in the gold crowbar tonight at Starcade.
18:26This is Daphne, ladies and gents,
18:29and she saves Flair's life before Page goes to hit the referee with a diamond cutter.
18:33Fortunately, he thinks twice about it before heading back up the ramp,
18:36and Daphne looks happy that no serious harm came to David Flair.
18:45Lex Luger versus Sting's up next,
18:47and Sting decides to give Liz some extra strong mace for the match tonight.
18:51Liz throws her other bottle away because she won't be needing it.
18:54So, this match came about because Liz ran away from the total package,
18:58Sting's taking her in as his brand new manager,
19:01and the match begins with Lex going on offense right away.
19:04Sting can't even get his coat off.
19:06We go outside where Luger keeps the pressure on,
19:09the Stinger takes a few guardrail bumps,
19:11the two get in the ring where Lex pulls off a body slam and a few elbow drops,
19:14and it's Liz who proves to be the difference maker when she gets on the apron.
19:18Lex finds himself in between Sting and Liz,
19:20and he takes a ton of strides from both people,
19:22and then both Lex and Sting go down after a double clothesline.
19:26Liz gets in the ring,
19:27and for some reason,
19:28she checks on Lex before checking on Sting.
19:31Sting finds this a bit weird,
19:32but he also knew it was going to happen.
19:34Liz goes to use that extra strong mace on Sting,
19:37but that's not mace folks,
19:39it's silly Sting.
19:41Right, look,
19:41it's a good spot and all,
19:43but this is completely out of nowhere.
19:45A month-long build-up that got way too much TV time than it should have.
19:49It's all been flushed down the toilet for the sake of a swerve bro.
19:53Sting sends Elizabeth out of the ring,
19:55and just like that,
19:55the match continues on.
19:57Lex takes an inverted atomic drop,
19:59a clothesline,
19:59and a big top rope splash from the Stinger.
20:02We then see two Stinger splashes as Sting looks to end it,
20:05but then,
20:06when Sting goes for the death lock,
20:07Liz gets in again holding the baseball bat.
20:10Sting tells Liz to drop the weapon,
20:12and the dumb son of a gun turns his back to put the death lock on again.
20:16This allows Liz to just pick up the bat again,
20:18and she cracks Sting across the jaw.
20:20It's a gimmick bat for sure,
20:22but that's still probably stung a bit.
20:24Sting?
20:25Stung?
20:25Yeah, fuck up.
20:26The ref calls for the bell,
20:28but Liz isn't done.
20:29She drops Sting's wrist inside a steel chair,
20:32and Luger lays the boots in.
20:33Lex takes the baseball bat,
20:35he delivers more shots to the hand and wrist,
20:37and yes,
20:38Sting may have saw the swerve coming,
20:39but his own stupidity cost him the match.
20:42He planned the silly string quite well,
20:44but he didn't think he'd get attacked from behind.
20:46The commentator says Sting's probably gonna be gone for a while,
20:49and yes,
20:50that is true.
20:51The next time he competes inside the ring,
20:53is it uncensored next year?
20:55WCW couldn't afford stretchers for this show,
20:58so a bunch of randoms have to carry our hero out of the arena.
21:01Starcade continues on,
21:02and this one wasn't good.
21:08Who is the master of the powerbomb?
21:11Sid Vicious or Kevin Nash?
21:13Well,
21:13we all hope to find out in the next match,
21:15but the finish of this one's gonna make you feel pretty ripped off.
21:18It's such a bad finish that I really don't know why everyone agreed to it,
21:22including the winner.
21:23The first one to pull off a powerbomb wins the match,
21:26and we get around 7 minutes of action before the match ends.
21:29Scott Hall isn't here,
21:30so Kev's all alone,
21:32for now.
21:33The match begins with that typical Kevin Nash corner offense that you all know and love.
21:37It ends with Sid taking a big back elbow,
21:39and I think this was supposed to be a double clothesline spot right here,
21:43and Nash had to improvise.
21:44It actually looked pretty good,
21:45and I only say it was improvised because Nash has never done it before.
21:49Sid then goes for the powerbomb,
21:51but he takes a low blow instead.
21:53On the outside,
21:53Nash tries a jackknife,
21:55but Sid breaks free.
21:56Sid's got a cut on his back,
21:57and I watched the start of the match back to see where this happened,
22:01but I'm at a complete loss.
22:02The only thing I can see is Sid hitting the ropes just before the bleeding starts,
22:07so if that was indeed how Sid got color,
22:09then I'm impressed.
22:10Those must be some real dangerous ring ropes.
22:13Anyway,
22:14Sid wrecks Kev on the outside,
22:15and Nash takes a chair shot across the back.
22:17Inside the ring,
22:18Sid performs a leg drop followed by a body slam,
22:21and Sid signals that the end's near
22:23before accidentally sending his opponent into the referee.
22:26Sid then delivers a powerbomb,
22:28I mean,
22:29it wasn't pretty at all,
22:30but it's still a powerbomb,
22:31and the referee didn't see it.
22:33This leads to Jeff Jarrett coming down to break a guitar over Sid's head,
22:37and this,
22:38my friends,
22:39is the end of the match.
22:40Nash can't jackknife Sid,
22:42but it's fine,
22:43he still wins,
22:44because Nash just tells the referee that he powerbombed Sid,
22:47and Slick Johnson's like,
22:49yeah,
22:50okay,
22:50I believe you,
22:51and the referee calls for the bell.
22:53I'm not even joking.
22:54The referee took Kevin's word for it,
22:56and he awarded the match the big sexy.
22:59Again,
22:59it's cheap as hell after the long buildup this match had on TV.
23:03I was actually impressed that every match on this card had some storyline going into the pay-per-view,
23:08but you just feel like you've wasted all your time when you see the pay-offs.
23:12When they say you can get the wrong type of heat,
23:14yeah,
23:15this is it.
23:21Backstage,
23:21Chris Benoit says that his US title open challenge is yet to be answered,
23:25but when Chris makes his way down to the ring,
23:27he soon finds out who his opponent is for this upcoming ladder match.
23:30Right,
23:31so who hasn't competed yet?
23:33Champagne Canyon,
23:34Bam Bam Bigelow,
23:35Kidman,
23:36Hoovy,
23:36Berlin,
23:37Psychosis.
23:38Well,
23:38how about we bring out Jeff Jarrett again,
23:40because that's who everyone wants to see,
23:42right?
23:43I mean,
23:43he had a decent enough match earlier on,
23:45but I really would have preferred someone else get this opportunity,
23:47maybe someone who'll use that ladder to full effect,
23:51and hey,
23:52nothing against Double J,
23:53but I think this is a bad call.
23:55Maybe he'll prove me wrong,
23:57though.
23:57He says he's already kicked one ass tonight,
23:59so he might as well do it again.
24:01An old slap nuts gets slapped hard before both men get in the ring.
24:05Chris performs a hook clothesline,
24:06a backbreaker,
24:07and a superplex before he retrieves the ladder.
24:10He puts it in the ring,
24:11but Double J performs a baseball slide.
24:13The US champ then gets dropped on the ladder,
24:15and this spot busts Benoit open pretty badly,
24:18but back in the ring,
24:19it's Chris who uses the ladder to good effect.
24:21Benoit goes up to grab his belt,
24:23but he ends up getting dropped on the top rope.
24:25Chris is now in a bad spot as Jarrett drops the ladder across his back,
24:28and the blood's now beginning to pull on the canvas.
24:31Still,
24:31Chris fights back,
24:32and both men are taking some hard bumps on the ladder.
24:35Jarrett gets a huge pop when he improvises a top rope slam while using the ladder to do extra damage.
24:40And yeah,
24:40I spoke too soon.
24:42This has been pretty good so far,
24:43and I stand fully corrected.
24:45Benoit tries to use the ladder to trap his opponent,
24:47but when he goes for the build,
24:49Double J brings the ladder back down.
24:50The two then fight as they climb up each side of the ladder,
24:53but it's Jarrett who takes a rough fall here.
24:56No one can get the upper hand as Jarrett immediately fires back,
24:59but Chris isn't going to make it easy for the chosen one.
25:02Neither man can get the belt,
25:04yet they keep trying over and over again.
25:06Double J dropkicks the ladder when Chris gets his fingers on the US belt.
25:09The bump was pretty spectacular here,
25:12and Chris wants to return the favor by rolling under and dropkicking the ladder once again.
25:16Chris then has a chance to win it.
25:18He gets to the very top and all he has to do is unhook the belt,
25:21but instead he performs a diving headbutt and the crowd lose their collective mind.
25:26Chris climbs up once again,
25:28he grabs the belt,
25:29Benoit is still US champion,
25:31and Shivani says this could very well be match of the year.
25:34You really can't complain.
25:35It's an impromptu match that was thrown together at the last minute,
25:38and even though I would have liked a few extra minutes from bell to bell,
25:41it was still good for what it was.
25:43So yeah,
25:44one good and one great match from Double J tonight.
25:47Fair play, lad.
25:55Brett Hart defeated Bill Goldberg in the WCW Mayhem World Title Tournament,
25:59but he got a lot of unwanted help in doing so.
26:02Brett would end up winning the world championship in the tournament finals,
26:05and the very next night,
26:06he promised to give Goldberg a title shot because of the way Brett beat him in the first round.
26:10The relationship between these two on TV has been a solid one.
26:14They both said they respect each other,
26:17and they even won the tag team belts together before dropping them again a few days later,
26:20but it all boils down to Brett Hart not being able to say he's the best there is,
26:25the best there was,
26:26and the best there ever will be without beating Goldberg fair and square inside the ring.
26:30Goldberg, meanwhile, says he's gonna run through Brett tonight.
26:34The hitman's next,
26:35and Goldberg will become champion again after losing the title at last year's Starcade.
26:39So to make sure there's a winner tonight,
26:42this one is no disqualification.
26:44Someone's either gonna get pinned,
26:45or someone's gonna give up.
26:47Brett says backstage that no matter what happens tonight,
26:50Goldberg's gonna lose,
26:51and he's gonna prove to all the skeptics that the hitman is the best,
26:54and after Brett makes his final entrance as world champion on pay-per-view,
26:58we then see Goldberg getting his security escort backstage.
27:01Goldberg walks down to the ring,
27:03he gets a great reaction as his pyro goes off,
27:05the two men are now inside the ropes and they shake hands before the match.
27:09The fans applaud,
27:11the bell rings.
27:12This is the final pay-per-view main event of the millennium,
27:15as Brett Hart faces Bill Goldberg.
27:23We start with a strong collar and elbow tie-up,
27:25and Brett gets brought to the corner.
27:27Goldberg gives a clean break,
27:28and Goldberg shoves Brett to the mat following another lock-up.
27:31Hart's gonna need to utilize his technique to win this one,
27:34so he performs a headlock takeover,
27:36and he begins wearing the challenger out on the mat,
27:38but Goldberg gets right back up,
27:40and Billy Boy performs a hard shoulder block.
27:42This gets followed up with Goldberg's gorilla press power slam
27:45that always looks impressive,
27:47and this is playing out like a typical Goldberg match,
27:50Brett may be done for already.
27:52Instead of going for the kill like he usually would,
27:55Goldberg performs two short-arm clotheslines.
27:57He then tries to play Brett at his own game with an E-bar submission,
28:00but this is where Brett shines as he tries to counter with a sharpshooter.
28:03Still, Goldberg uses his strength to force his way out,
28:07and Brett Hart rolls out of the ring.
28:09On the outside, Goldberg stays on the champion,
28:11and when Brett fights back, the referee takes a bump.
28:13Old Billy Silverman's had a pretty rough night tonight.
28:16The two then fight at the commentary table as Charles Robinson takes over,
28:20and when the match gets back in the ring,
28:22Brett takes a big boot.
28:23Robinson then takes a bump when Goldberg performs a single underhook suplex,
28:27but still, Goldberg looks for a spear.
28:29Brett moves out of the way,
28:30and Goldberg smacks the ring post,
28:32and we've now got another new referee.
28:34It's Johnny Boone.
28:35Brett then looks for the ring post figure four,
28:38and this, according to Brett, was the first problem.
28:41When doing this move,
28:42your opponent has to hold onto your right foot,
28:44and Goldberg didn't do this.
28:45So Brett smacked his head on the floor,
28:47and even though it didn't look like much,
28:49you can still see Brett wince as he applies the move.
28:52When the move gets broken up,
28:54Brett stays on the floor with his hand covering his eyes,
28:56and it's very possible that Brett was already concussed after trying to pull off this move.
29:01The two get back in the ring where Brett tries to weaken Goldberg's leg even more,
29:05but he's wrecked.
29:06He's definitely not all there right now.
29:09He's going to continue on though with a snapmare takeover followed by a figure four,
29:13and at least while applying this move,
29:15the hitman can try to regain his faculties for a moment.
29:18When the two get up,
29:19Brett goes for a leg trip,
29:20but he gets punched in the head instead.
29:22The two then share strikes in the corner,
29:24and when Brett swings back,
29:26he ends up taking out the third referee.
29:28Goldberg sends Brett into the ropes,
29:30and then...
29:42According to Brett,
29:43the only instruction he gave Goldberg before coming to the ring
29:46was to not hurt him.
29:47Apparently,
29:48Bill called for the kick way too late,
29:50and Hart had no idea what kind of kick Bill was going to perform,
29:53and seeing as Brett was already dazed from the figure four spot,
29:56he had no way to properly defend himself from Bill's attack.
29:59Now,
30:00there's always two sides to every story,
30:02and it's incredibly easy for all of us to back up Brett here,
30:06but all that matters is Brett's heart.
30:08He knows he's in a lot of trouble,
30:10and he needs to get through these last few moments of the match as safely as possible.
30:13I went over what Brett said in his book in a video I put together years ago all about this
30:19match,
30:19so if you want to learn more,
30:21please check that one out.
30:22Brett gets put down with a spear,
30:24but there's no one to ring the bell.
30:26Goldberg has it one,
30:27and all he needs is a referee.
30:29Roddy Piper slowly makes his way down to the ring,
30:32and while Goldberg watches Piper,
30:33Brett pulls off a chop lock.
30:35Brett then locks in a sharpshooter as Piper gets in the ring,
30:38and Piper tells the timekeeper to ring the bell.
30:41It's Montreal all over again,
30:43and it's truly a crappy finish to the match.
30:46But yeah, that's it over,
30:47Brett wins,
30:48and he's not happy about it.
30:49He follows Piper up the rampway,
30:51Roddy hands him the title,
30:52and Brett looks completely out of it as Starrcade fades to black.
30:56Bill Goldberg was screwed by Piper,
30:57and we assume the powers that be are behind this,
31:00but we will get all the answers tomorrow night on Nitro.
31:11The main event's a total downer,
31:13it really is,
31:14and it does leave a bad stain on WCW's last pay-per-view of 1999.
31:19Jeff Jarrett performed well tonight,
31:20I thought the opener was exactly what it needed to be,
31:23the show was also filled with your usual WCW nonsense
31:26that you'll watch once and never again,
31:28and then the kick just takes all the fun out of the show.
31:31I think even folks who don't like Bret Hart
31:34can understand just how crappy it is
31:35to have an event to end like this.
31:38Bret isn't done,
31:39he still has a few weeks on TV,
31:41and he still wrestles more matches.
31:43We're going to see those matches as I continue this series,
31:46so hopefully you join me
31:47as we say goodbye to another Reliving the War legend.
31:50Starrcade does not come recommended,
31:52but for the Jeff Jarrett naysayers,
31:54this event might change your mind.
31:56Do check out the ladder match if you get the chance,
31:58and yep, that's it.
32:00Thanks for watching folks,
32:01I hope you enjoyed this video,
32:02and please take care.

32:53¡Gracias!
