MAN FINDS US NAVY TARGET WHILE PADDLE BOARDING

WITH PIX AND VID

By Shuk Yee Tsang

A paddleboarder was left stunned after discovering a strange half-sunk object drifting deep offshore before authorities revealed it may have been a US Navy target used for military practice exercises.

Bill Clements captured the bizarre moment while paddleboarding off the coast of Los Angeles, California, after spotting what initially looked like a life raft floating beneath the ocean’s surface.

Concerned it could be connected to an emergency, Bill contacted the Coast Guard over the radio.

Bill later discovered stamped markings on the front reading “USN PETT,” which stands for Polythene Tow Target, a floating target used by the Navy during weapons training exercises.

Bill said: “Pretty odd thing to find. I’ve never seen anything like that before.

“I googled the serial number and it said it’s a radar reflector used by the Navy."

Viewers online were stunned by the unusual discovery, with one commenting: “Why is that guy out on a paddleboard in such deep water... nightmare.”

Another joked: “Captain of the paddleboard.”

A third viewer claiming to be a Navy veteran wrote: “Can confirm. This is for target practice for large caliber weapons.”

01:17There's an orange hole, it's rigid, there's a crack in it, so it's half sunk.
01:23There's air bubbles coming out of it.

02:18Oh.
02:20It might be a boat they shot at.
02:22Oh.
02:24Yeah, let's kick them over to it.
02:26Alright.
02:27Thanks, man.
02:28Maybe they've got target boats that the Navy shoots at.
02:31Oh, really?
02:32And they just lose them and they just...
02:35I heard about a missile found out here last year.

02:44Yeah, yeah.
