00:28Parce qu'elle challenged me in that second.
00:32Congratulations.
00:33You're an inspiration of so many women.
00:36You're also a mother.
00:37You're improving with your age.
00:39What is the formula that keeps you improving ?
00:43And your body language changed.
00:46It's better.
00:47You seem very confident.
00:50And playing your best tennis.
00:54Thank you.
00:54So many compliments.
00:57But I just try to improve myself every practice, every match, every tournament that I play.
01:04I think I draw motivation from different things, from different people as well.
01:12I think also, you know, from people in Ukraine and the war in Ukraine really gave me a different perspective
01:20on life.
01:22And also my family, my daughter, you know, I feel like I use my time more wisely now.
01:30You know, when I'm, as soon as I'm on the course, I give 100% there.
01:34If I'm not mentally or physically ready to be there, 100%, I'm not doing it.
01:40Then I'm just going back home, spending time, quality time at home, being there for my daughter.
01:47And then, yeah, just give it 100%, whatever I do.
01:52And not wasting my time too much on, you know, outside things.
01:56And things that can disturb me or not making me happy.
02:02I was wondering, congratulations, by the way.
02:05When you came back from maternity leave, you started working with Raymond Sluiter.
02:09And you also started playing so much more aggressive than before you went away.
02:19How much has he been a part of the change in your game?
02:25Definitely, I started to work with him on the beginning of my comeback.
02:30And made a big impact on my game.
02:33And I'm really thankful for all the work that he's done with me.
02:38And all the difficult journey, you know, of the comeback.
02:43And that he agreed actually to be on this journey with me.
02:45Because I think, you know, not everybody really wants to, you know,
02:51to take the journey when you don't know how it's going to be.
02:55And starting from zero, okay, I had a great career before maternity.
03:00But in a way, you don't know how your body is going to react.
03:03And how fit you're going to be on constant basis.
03:08Because tennis requires you to be very consistent.
03:11So, yeah, we did a great, I think it was four months or three months of hard work
03:21when I was coming back before starting playing tournaments.
03:25And, of course, not very, like, first four or five tournaments were a bit tricky.
03:31I couldn't find my game.
03:33Lost two tournaments in a row from the match points.
03:35So, yeah, it was not an easy, but I'm very happy.
03:39He is a great person and, of course, a great player himself in the past.
03:43And I think he's done a great job with the players.
03:47And, yeah, just really enjoyed my time with him.
03:52And, yeah, just happy that he's been on this journey with me.
03:55Hi, Elina.
03:57A few days ago, Marta Kostiuk showed us a picture of the blast of a Russian missile next to,
04:03I mean, very close to her parents' house.
04:05She criticized the tool for not supporting Ukrainian players.
04:11And yesterday, Aleksandr Nikonova also called out the Russian players,
04:17saying they don't care that Ukrainians are dying.
04:20What is your experience of, you know, having to live through the war
04:26and being on tour with Russian players?
04:29I mean, it's, I think, not the news that it is like this.
04:34It's been like that for four years.
04:37Kind of already, you know, not thinking too much about that.
04:41And it's, of course, very sad for us because we're still, you know,
04:48as the situation, like Marta's, for example, is very heavy, you know,
04:52to wake up to the news that your family is in a huge,
04:56like it was in a huge danger during the night
04:58and you are, like, hopeless, you know, in this way.
05:02So, of course, been living with this for, you know, for years.
05:08And now to talk about it again, for me, I think we analyzed this already in the past.
05:18We know the reaction that we get of not reaction, no reaction at all.
05:24So, in a way, for me, it's how I can be useful for my country,
05:30how I can help the next generation of motivating them,
05:36introducing them to sport and helping them with that
05:39because that's the only way that I see things going forward
05:45because just doing something that you cannot control everything and everybody.
05:53So, in a way, I just want to, me personally, I want to control what I can control
05:57is the things that, how I can be useful for my country.
06:05Alina, I'm doing a piece on the weather
06:07and I want to ask you, how does the heat affect you on the court
06:14and also, game-wise, how the courts play
06:18and does that work for you, does that not work for you?
06:21If you can just talk a little bit about that.
06:23I think in tennis, you're used to adjust every single day
06:27is a very different story and even when you're playing same tournaments,
06:32you can play in the morning, you can play at night,
06:34it will be completely different conditions.
06:37You cannot control the weather, so as soon as you wake up,
06:42me personally, I check the weather every time.
06:44A couple of days ahead as well to see how I need to adjust my tension
06:50or my preparation, if it's hot, I will start hydrating myself the day before
06:56and eating correctly for this particular day.
07:01So, for me, it's, you know, all the small things that can affect you
07:05and that you can control in this case.
07:08So, yeah, weather is always, you know, tricky for us.
07:12I feel like, yeah, when it's so hot, you're just trying to survive,
07:17not only playing against your opponent, but also playing against the conditions.
07:21So, yeah, it's like this, unfortunately, in tennis,
07:25but I think it's, you know, this sweetness of it.
07:35You're coming from many weeks since the beginning of the year
07:39with a constant good level and rising.
07:42And what decision you are doing well since the end of last year
07:46where you decide to say, it's too much for me,
07:49that you are monitoring wisely and better
07:53to have this constant good performance.
07:57Yeah, for me, it was important to listen to my body,
08:03you know, to listen to really what's,
08:05how my body is reacting to the heavy load.
08:09And, of course, you know, after pregnancy,
08:11my body is very different to what it was before.
08:14Maybe, you know, when I was younger, when I was 25,
08:17I was able to play week in, week out
08:24in a way more easy, more consistent,
08:27you know, and it would not take as much energy out of me
08:30as it is now.
08:32Now I have to also take into consideration
08:35that my body went to pregnancy.
08:37And, you know, I have to maybe sometimes just stop
08:41and give myself not one day off,
08:43but maybe two days or three days off
08:45just to really restore this energy.
08:49And, yeah, have, you know,
08:53this kind of like fresh outlook for the practice
08:58or for the tournament or just, yeah,
09:00just give myself a bit more time
09:02to adjust to the conditions
09:06or just give myself rest.
09:09Because sometimes the muscles, you know,
09:12they are not reacting as well as you wish.
09:15And you need to listen to yourself
09:18and really rest and relax
09:21to win after, you know, in the long term.
09:24I think it's more about like seeing the full picture
09:28and, yeah, just really giving it 100% in the right time.
