00:04All right, Coco, tough battle today.
00:06Just give us your first thoughts of the match.
00:10Yeah, I mean, I don't know, I had chances.
00:13So I think just trying to capitalize more on these good points that I'm hitting and not quite finishing.
00:21So, yeah, I think that was the difference that she was able to finish the points and I wasn't.
00:36So I got a tough luck today.
00:38What was the most frustrating out there today that maybe you couldn't play the game you wanted
00:43or have the sensations you were used to, maybe playing a bit defensive?
00:47How did you see that coming?
00:50I mean, I think, again, just like not capitalizing on certain shots.
00:55I mean, at three all, I had a couple break points and missed, I think, two back ends or three
01:00back ends,
01:01which just can't happen in that scenario.
01:03So I think, I don't know, I feel like I'm practicing well.
01:08And when the moments get there, I'm not quite translating that.
01:13I do it at times and then I also don't do it.
01:15So I think it's just a learning experience.
01:18And hopefully when I'm in this position again, I can make better decisions.
01:26Coco, you've had a lot of success in your career being able to win matches where you're not always playing
01:31your best.
01:31It's one of your strengths.
01:32I'm just wondering if you felt like you could still get over the line today,
01:35even if things were not firing for you and just what ultimately was not able to get you to escape
01:41this one.
01:43I think just I lost, I feel like I lost the same way in Rome as I did here, which
01:49is not good, I think.
01:53I don't know, you never want to lose the same way back-to-back times.
01:58And I did.
01:59And I feel like also in Madrid, it was a similar thing, losing the same way.
02:03So it's one thing to lose.
02:06But I think today I didn't, I mean, I competed, like I fought my hardest,
02:11but I don't think I played the way I wanted to in the crucial moments.
02:16Just looking ahead to Wimbledon, if you can, it was a pretty good serving performance today.
02:23Do you take confidence in the improvement in the serve?
02:26And what do you think the impact will be from that at Wimbledon?
02:30Yeah, I mean, obviously the serve is more consistent.
02:32If I'm not holding serve, which is the issue, I guess.
02:37Who cares how many serves I make in the court if the result is still the same?
02:42So I guess, I mean, obviously the grass I think will help a little bit more,
02:46but I think I could have served more aggressive at some points
02:49and did more patterns that I work on in practice today.
02:53I just didn't do so.
02:56Yes, it's more consistent, and I have a lot of trust now in my serve.
03:00But at the same time, I got broken a lot of times, and I have to correct that.
03:07When you got to 6-5 in the second set and then 3-1 in the third set,
03:12did you think, okay, I've got this under control?
03:15Did you get that sort of feeling like the opponent was going to go away at this point?
03:22I mean, you never – obviously you win some games in a row,
03:25so you feel like the momentum is on your end.
03:27But it's pro sport, so I never feel completely comfortable, to be honest,
03:32until the match is over.
03:34And, yeah, I think that's maybe the issue, too,
03:37that when I see the momentum is on my side,
03:39I should put my – keep putting my foot on the gas
03:42instead of maybe letting up a little bit,
03:44and I think that's what I did.
03:55Coco, tough one today.
03:57In terms of, you know, playing against Potapova,
03:59she can – she's a player that isn't automatic when she has leads.
04:03She can kind of let them go.
04:05How tricky is that to play against as well
04:08when you maybe sometimes want to put, you know, your foot on the gas pedal?
04:12But if you don't, she might, you know, back up a little bit,
04:16and vice versa.
04:17Did you struggle with that in your head at all, either?
04:20I mean, I kind of noticed, like, obviously in the second set,
04:23she – I really broke her so many times,
04:27and I could have held, and maybe if I hold one time at 4-2 –
04:33or to make it 4-3 instead of 5-2, it could be different.
04:36But, yeah, I think when I – you know, most players,
04:41I feel like when they have the lead, they kind of, especially against me,
04:45kind of get a little bit tight in that show today.
04:49But obviously when you kind of, like, lose a lead,
04:52I've been in that position, and you're playing from behind,
04:54you're a lot more freer because you're just, like, whatever.
04:57And I think I need to have that same mentality when I'm in behind
05:02playing like that to get back into the lead,
05:05and I need to figure out how to make that mental switch
05:09of keeping that level of play when I do have the lead
05:12because I think at 5-2 to 6-5, I played great,
05:15and after that, the tiebreaker was really bad.
05:19This is your second time being a defending champion at a major.
05:22You're just wondering how much, if at all, that sort of status affected
05:26how you played.
05:29I mean, I think at U.S. Open it did a lot more.
05:32But honestly, this time it didn't.
05:34I wasn't really nervous.
05:36I was nervous in my first round, but after that,
05:39I wasn't really nervous going into today,
05:41and I wasn't really thinking about it.
05:43I think I learned from my U.S. Open experience.
05:45So I don't really think it played a result.
05:48Like, I played a part in the result today.
05:52Yeah, but I don't know.
05:53I think that's what's more frustrating
05:55because I felt like I learned a lot from that U.S. Open experience
05:58and am a better player since then,
06:00and I just don't think I portrayed that today.
