00:00Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton defeated incumbent Senator John Cornyn in the Lone Star
00:04State's Republican Senate primary runoff. The win comes exactly one week after a late
00:09endorsement from President Trump boosted Paxton's numbers. The president hailed the AG as a MAGA
00:15loyalist. Paxton himself touted his history of suing to defend conservative values, including
00:20more than 100 lawsuits against the Biden administration over, quote, open borders
00:24policies, the government overreach, attacks on the Second Amendment, and the far left's radical
00:28agenda. He will now take on Democratic nominee James Tallarico in November's general election.
00:34Recent polling showed a Paxton-Talerico matchup as a dead heat, but Texas has not elected a
00:39Democratic senator since 1988. Iran says it will retaliate for the U.S.'s military self-defense
00:46strikes in and around the Strait of Hormuz on Monday. The Trump administration, however,
00:50seems unfazed. Here's Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday.
00:54What's happening, there's a lawful, it's illegal, it's unsustainable for the world, it's
00:57unacceptably. The straits need to be open, unimpeded, without tolls. And obviously that
01:03needs to happen to me, really, as soon as it's easy to use.
01:05That last part there about something being agreed to. Well, he's talking about the negotiations
01:10President Trump said were progressing, quote, nicely. That's the actual word he used just
01:15a couple of days ago. So what the heck is up? Are things still nicely on track after the
01:20U.S. struck Iranian assets and Iran threatened retaliation? Secretary Rubio addressed that question
01:25as well. The president's expressed his desire to make it. He's either going to make a good deal
01:30or no deal. So not everyone should be assured, but that may take a little while.
01:35Anti-ice protests outside an immigrant detention center in New Jersey are growing violent.
01:40Yesterday marked the fifth day of demonstrations in front of Delaney Hall in Newark.
01:45Protesters were filmed grappling with officers over plastic barriers that demonstrators were
01:49attempting to use to block a large truck from leaving the facility. The Department of Homeland
01:53Security posted about the incident, quote, These rioters have obstructed law enforcement
01:58operations, a felony and a crime. Local police have refused to answer calls to help our law
02:02enforcement. We will not allow violent rioters to slow ice down. Law and order will be restored.
02:07Over the holiday weekend, protesters started gathering outside the center, many of them wearing
02:12keffia scarves and waving Antifa flags. At the same time, hundreds of detainees inside reportedly
02:18went on a hunger and labor strike to protest conditions at the 1,000-bed facility. Now, I should
02:24note here that Homeland Security Secretary Mark Wayne Mullen refuted those claims, saying there's no
02:28hunger strike taking place, and he said, quote, No subprime conditions. On Monday, New Jersey Governor
02:34Mikey Sherrill got in on the action and joined protesters. DHS shrugged that off as a political stunt.
