00:00What is the kind of income that you're generating?
00:03These are workers in a textile factory whose day jobs involve stitching, folding and packing garments.
00:08But now Objectways, a data collection company, has tied up with the factory to record these everyday tasks
00:13to eventually help train AI systems.
00:15But are the workers being paid for the videos they help shoot?
00:18We are not providing any additional posts for this leverage.
00:22In future, I don't know.
00:24And it's not just factory workers.
00:26Anyone can record this kind of first-person data.
00:28Videos captured through wearable devices while performing everyday tasks.
00:32Like, you know, when they collect data, it's an hourly rate we provide.
00:36$3, $4, $5, depends on the complexity, how well it is.
00:41So is it also for the factory workers that on top of their salary?
00:43Any, anyone was working on this.
00:46Like a simple calculation.
00:47If somebody is working for eight hours, like, you know, when they go home,
00:50they are taking about 2,500 rupees or something, right, on top of their salary.
00:54According to Objectways, freelancers across India and other countries are already doing this
00:58and getting paid $3 to $4 by the hour recording daily tasks from their homes.
01:03Like Asian, every country, it will maybe alone $300 or plus more everything each country they will have.
01:08And in India, we are having like 1,000 plus 2,000 to 3,000 users we are having on
01:11India.
01:12But not all of these videos get through.
01:14The video was rejected because the hands are not visible fully.
01:17The recorded footage is checked to ensure that no personal data has been recorded,
01:21that there are no errors and that hands are fully visible.
01:24The videos are all okay and for one part, we will make, depending on countries, it's dollar.
01:29And in India, we are making us rupees like 250.
01:31For many employees here, the money feels substantial,
01:34especially in smaller cities where job opportunities can be limited.
01:37Comparing Chennai or Kwaenbatur, it is like tier 3 or tier 4 city.
01:41So here, this work is being my biggest support for running my family action work.
01:49I was an electrician before this.
01:51I've been here for two years now doing packing, folding and other work.
01:55Earlier, the income wasn't enough to support my family.
01:59Switching jobs helped us live more comfortably.
02:01Ravi, the founder, says that the pay is comparable to global trades.
02:05It's not we are paying cheaper price in India.
02:07We are paying around $15 to $20 in the US actually.
02:09Like we are paying $5 in India, right?
02:12But we are not like, you know, we are not paying $1 or something.
