00:00Brad Botkin from CBS Sports says,
00:02Victor Wemby lays an egg in the biggest game of his life.
00:06Spurs are on the ropes.
00:07Well, he wants four for 15.
00:08It's accurate.
00:09Spurs are on the ropes.
00:11Wemby didn't have a good game.
00:13A lot of pressure on Wemby.
00:15You know, he's got other teammates that can go out there and help him.
00:17But apparently Isaiah Hartenstein did a great job defensively on him.
00:21When he guarded Wemby, Wemby was three for 11.
00:25Wemby looked awkward last night.
00:26Like sometimes...
00:27And he finished four for 15.
00:28Wemby can look amazing.
00:31Like you've never seen a player like Wemby coordinated,
00:35knocking down threes, able to get to the basket.
00:38Last night he looked like...
00:41And this is a guy who was a good player.
00:44But last night he looked like Ralph Sampson trying to shoot threes.
00:48You know what I mean?
00:49They've been tall guys.
00:51And Ralph Sampson was a good player.
00:52He looked kind of uncoordinated.
00:54Like he was taking the ball to the basket sometimes.
00:55And it just didn't look smooth.
00:580 for 5 from threes.
00:59Had an off night.
01:00This guy's not a star, but he's trying to be a pretty solid player for them.
01:05Julian Champagny, who's twin...
01:07I believe they're twins.
01:08Twin brothers on the Wizards.
01:10He had 22 points last night.
01:12He's a pretty good player.
01:13He's not a star.
01:15He's the one of their leaders.
01:16He's a starter on a Western Conference final.
01:18When they go up there and check the basketball order, he's the guy that goes over there and
01:21checks it.
01:22Yeah.
01:23You know, the national narrative is Oklahoma City.
01:26They're the villains.
01:27They flop.
01:28They play dirty.
01:30All these sort of things.
01:31It is frustrating to watch.
01:34SGA scored 32 points.
01:36Yeah.
01:37Do you know how many baskets he made?
01:39Six or seven?
01:40Six.
01:41He had 16 free throws.
01:43I have him on seven field goals, J.P.
01:45Okay.
01:46I thought it was six.
01:47He made 16 free throws.
01:48I did go to bed at the end.
01:4916 to 17.
01:50Yeah, I know.
01:50Yeah.
01:51So, but was he flopping last night?
01:53A little bit.
01:54So, same old stuff.
01:55Was he getting those calls?
01:56I guess he was.
01:57He was going to the line 17 times.
01:58I mean, it wasn't that bad.
01:59It wasn't as bad as...
02:01Spurs are flopping, too.
02:02They're both a game in the system.
02:05Wemby does it, too.
02:06I mean, they let him get away with it.
02:08And Wemby, he's great one game.
02:11Where he gets, like, 24 rebounds.
02:12He had one rebound at halftime last night.
02:14He had four shots at halftime.
02:16He was a big dud.
02:17You're claiming to be the MVP.
02:18You're throwing pouting on the sidelines.
02:20You're watching SGA get the MVP.
02:22And you have four shots at halftime and one rebound.
02:25This is game five.
02:26If you'd never watched Wemby before.
02:29If you'd never watched him before, you would have thought he's a poor man's Ralph Sampson.
02:33Yeah, you would have thought he's just an okay player.
02:35An okay big man.
02:36Yeah.
02:37He just looked awkward last night.
02:38But then he has games where he throws up 41.
02:4041 and 25 boards in six blocks.
02:43Or nine blocks.
02:44I mean, so.
02:45And you kind of expect that effort.
02:46He's going to have to do that.
02:47They're not going to win.
02:48I mean, there's no chance they're winning game seven in OKC.
02:51Oh, I think there's a chance.
02:52If they go back.
02:54All right.
02:54Well, we're going to make a little wager.
02:55Yeah, I like you guys are going to put some money on it.
02:57But.
02:58I mean, game seven, Cleveland took out Detroit in Detroit.
03:01That's fine.
03:02OKC is a million times better than Detroit.
03:05So I'm just going to.
03:07We'll make a little wager if they get to game seven.
03:09I think one of the difference makers last night was McCain, who Oklahoma City traded for.
03:14Because they're playing without their second best player in Jalen Williams, the Thunder.
03:19And AJ Mitchell's not playing.
03:21So they traded for Jared McCain from the Sixers this year.
03:27And he was hitting some big threes down the stretch.
03:29OKC wins 127-114.
03:32No game tonight.
03:33Game six will be in San Antonio.
03:36I believe tomorrow night.
03:38I was going to tap out.
03:39I actually said to myself, all right, if the game's not at double figures by the end of the third
03:45quarter, then I'm out.
03:46But, of course, they got it to nine, ten.
03:49They were kind of hanging around, ready to make a run.
03:52I think maybe got it down to eight.
03:55And just couldn't get over the hump.
03:56And part of it was McCain was hitting big shots.
03:59So the World Cup, we're going to have to do a World Cup pool.
04:02We do it every four years.
04:04Not a draft.
04:06What?
04:06Not a draft.
04:07We did that before.
04:09Why wouldn't we do a draft?
04:10Didn't we pick random names out of a hat?
04:12Yeah, we're doing a draft.
04:13OK, so we're doing a draft, not at random.
04:16Of course not.
04:17My brain is in a fog.
04:18Not picking out of a hat.
04:19We're going to do a draft.
04:20But official rosters had to be into FIFA by June 1st.
04:24So there's a few days.
04:25But I guess the U.S. team roster was announced.
04:29I only recognized a couple names.
04:32Actually, I only recognized one.
04:33Who?
04:34Pulachek?
04:34Pulachek.
04:35But they did announce the rosters, at least for the U.S.
04:41So I don't know where the U.S. stands in terms of world ranking amongst the other teams.
04:48Are they about middle of the pack?
04:50I don't think there's high hopes right now for Team USA.
04:53They have not looked good in the run-up matches.
04:57What have the experts been saying about the roster?
05:01They like the roster?
05:02They never really like our roster.
05:03I mean, look, here's the thing.
05:04We have a lot of guys that play in Europe now.
05:06But I think that has changed where, you know, back in the day, we would have like one or
05:10two guys.
05:11Most of these guys play in Europe.
05:12They don't play a lot.
05:14And I think a lot of it is, would you rather have a guy playing stateside, playing a lot
05:18of minutes, or you have guys like Rania who play in Germany and he plays like 400 minutes
05:24a season or something.
05:25So they play.
05:26I just don't think they're very game fit right now, a lot of these guys.
05:30Well, they're saying Pulisic didn't even score a goal this year.
05:34Really?
05:35So in 19 matches, he didn't have one goal.
05:37Who's he play for?
05:38Oh, he plays for AC Milan.
05:40AC Milan.
05:40Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:41They said he had zero goals.
05:42I thought he was playing really well earlier in the year.
05:43Is he older?
05:44How old is he now?
05:45He's 27.
05:46He's 27.
05:46He's only 5'8".
05:47I didn't realize he was that short.
05:49He had eight goals in 30 matches.
05:50Well, they're saying in the last 19, he didn't have a goal.
05:52Maybe last, yeah.
05:53He started really well.
05:54U.S. currently ranked 16th in the world by FIFA.
05:58So we're about in the middle of the pack.
06:00But 16th in the world for soccer is pretty much doo-doo.
06:04I think they've only won one game post-knockout round in the history.
06:10Wow.
06:11I mean, I'll get behind him and maybe we can steal a game or two.
06:14But I mean, I'll be all geeked up for it.
06:16All right.
06:17I'm guessing no D.C. United players are on the roster.
06:20I don't know.
06:21That, I don't know.
06:22Zippy.
06:24All right.
06:24Well, I believe the World Cup starts June 11th.
06:26So we're going to have to figure out when we're going to do our...
06:28That's soon.
06:29Yeah.
06:30It's coming.
06:31Yeah.
06:31Did you mention how testy Polchek was at his press conference?
06:36That was something that was on Larry Brown Sports.
06:38No way.
06:38Why was he testy?
06:40They just asked him about the pressure being on the World Cup.
06:42He's like, I'm not answering that question anymore.
06:44You guys keep asking me that.
06:45Of course there's pressure.
06:46It's a World Cup.
06:47They were like, he's just ornery.
06:49I don't know.
06:50Rick Polchek.
06:51Lots of pressure on those guys.
06:53All right.
06:53So the Nats win again.
06:55They've already won the series against Cleveland.
06:58Won the series against first place Atlanta.
07:00Won the series against first place Cleveland.
07:03Game three today at 1-10.
07:06Legitimately stunned by this team.
07:07They win 6-3.
07:09They went out early up 4-0.
07:11James Wood hit number 15.
07:13Ruiz had a single that drove in two.
07:15And then James Wood came up, hit a two-run bomb.
07:19He had three hits.
07:21Including his 15th bomb.
07:22He's got his average up to 276.
07:24He hits rockets.
07:26Yeah, he killed it.
07:27He killed it.
07:28And they got to Joey Cantito.
07:30And he lasted two innings.
07:32Give up four runs.
07:33And they got to the Cleveland bullpen very early.
07:36Win the game 6-3.
07:37They are 29-27.
07:38They're 19-11 away from Nats Park.
07:42And they haven't lost a series since the Brewers series.
07:45They struggle at home really good on the road.
07:47See if they can get some home dubs.
07:50I feel like that's fluky.
07:51They haven't lost a series since the Brewers series, which was six series ago.
07:56That's impressive.
07:57They're in second place in the East.
07:59And yesterday we talked about their legitimate wild card contender.
08:02Cade Cavalli was really good last night.
08:07His curveball was nasty.
08:11I mean, it was moving.
08:12It looked like it was dropping about five feet.
08:15He struck out seven.
08:16He got his fifth win.
08:18ERA is down to 3-6.
08:20And Mitchell Parker with a three-inning save.
08:22I haven't met three wins.
08:23Is that wrong?
08:24Is it wrong in here in the box?
08:26I'm sorry.
08:27I'm sorry.
08:27Three and three.
08:28Yeah, sorry.
08:29Three and three, 3.62 ERA.
08:30He's looking at something else.
08:31No, he's the real deal.
08:34So, man, James Wood is just on fire.
08:37What's he on pace for?
08:38Like 40-plus dingers?
08:39He's got to be, yeah.
08:41He's going to get paid.
08:43He's going to get paid.
08:44I told you he's a superstar.
08:45In the month of May, he's hitting .326 with five home runs, 13 RBIs,
08:53and 19 runs scored.
08:56So, you know, roughly about 22, 23 games.
08:59I mean, he's just on fire in the month of May.
09:01Put it in context.
09:02Schwarber has 21 bombs.
09:04Yep.
09:05I don't even know Murakami.
09:07He's got 19.
09:07Oh, he's the rookie from the White Sox.
09:08Yeah.
09:09He hit another one last night.
09:10Alvarez from Houston has 18.
09:12Aaron Judge, 17.
09:13And then you start to get close to Woody.
09:17Mr. Matt Myers is happy.
09:18The Orioles have taken the first couple against the Rays.
09:22The Rays are just, Rays are a really good team.
09:24They're 34 and 16.
09:26But the Orioles have won a couple in a row against the Rays.
09:29They beat them 6-1 last night.
09:31The Cubs had two 10-game winning streaks this year.
09:36Now they have a 10-game losing streak.
09:38I mean, it's just...
09:40Rollercoaster season.
09:41Baseball is just crazy.
09:42They are awful right now.
09:44Ooh, they got pounded, too.
09:4512-1.
09:46Oh, yeah.
09:46They played awful.
09:47They played so bad last night.
09:49Craig Council's their manager.
09:50He just looked befuddled.
09:52He didn't know what to do.
09:53He was taking his hat off, rubbing his head.
09:55He was out there arguing with umps.
09:57Got tossed.
09:57They played so bad last night.
09:59They played.
10:00Couldn't hit.
10:00Couldn't field.
10:02Ground ball.
10:02Routine.
10:04Ground ball to the third baseman.
10:05He throws it about five feet short of the first baseman.
10:07What?
10:08Whoever Jordan Wicks is, he stinks.
10:10He's got a 16.6 ERA.
10:12I mean, they are just so bad.
10:1316.6.
10:14Hey, back to James Wood.
10:16If you had to do it all over again, do you make that Juan Soto deal?
10:19I know it crushed you.
10:20So they traded Juan Soto and Josh Bell, and they've netted James Wood, C.J. Abrams,
10:26Mackenzie Gore was part of that deal.
10:28All right.
10:28Toss out Luke Voigt.
10:29Robert Hasslein worked out.
10:31Susanna is still in the system.
10:33They kind of made out on that deal.
10:35Of course you made the deal because you knew he wasn't going to sign.
10:38You do it 100 times out of 100.
10:39They offered him $400 million, and he said no.
10:42So, yeah, you had to make the deal.
10:43You need to get some assets back from a player that won't be on your roster in the future.
10:47Riz had to make the deal.
10:51If you know he's not going to sign.
10:53All right.
10:54So, like I said, the Nats will play today at 110, third game of the series against Cleveland.
10:59I believe Myles Michaelis pitching for Washington, and Gavin Williams, who's 7-3 with a 3-2 ERA,
11:06one of the better pitchers in the bigs pitching for Cleveland.
11:12Josh Jacobs.
11:14Oh, boy.
11:15Originally, I thought this was the guy we drafted.
11:18From Tennessee.
11:20Oh, no, not him.
11:22This is Josh Jacobs from the Packers.
11:26Arrested yesterday, booked on several domestic violence charges, according to the Hobart Lawrence County Police Department.
11:33That's in Wisconsin.
11:35He's 28.
11:36He was booked on charges of battery, domestic abuse, criminal damage to property, strangulation, suffocation.
11:44A lot of serious things.
11:46Now, four of the five charges are misdemeanors.
11:48One's a felony, but I believe he's being held.
11:52So, it's not good.
11:53Of course, his lawyer says he denies everything, so we'll see where this goes.
11:57It's all alleged until it's proven one way or the other.
12:00It's Joshua Josephs.
12:01That's what it was.
12:02Yeah, Joshua Josephs.
12:03Josh Jacobs.
12:05That's not good, Mr. Cakes.
12:06No, it's a really bad look.
12:10That's really bad.
12:11Let's see how it plays out in the legal system.
12:13But those are disturbing charges.
12:15Last but not least, the government's going to start getting involved in college sports.
12:19There's going to be a bipartisan bill led by Senators Ted Cruz and Maria Cantwell, expected
12:28to be introduced within days that will limit transferring in college sports.
12:36So, the portal would be limited to one transfer per player.
12:41Also, they would cap the money that each player can make.
12:45So, there would be a salary cap of each player.
12:48Right now, there's not because the NCAA doesn't have any rules and the players can go wherever
12:53they want, whenever they want.
12:54I would think they could challenge that.
12:56Maybe they can.
12:57But...
12:58I don't know how they can do that.
12:59Right now, the government's going to try and get involved to limit transfers and to cap
13:04money the college athletes currently are making.
13:08I understand the limiting transfers.
13:10Yep.
13:10I don't know how they can limit the money when the schools are making boatloads.
13:14Yep.
13:14Well, we'll see.
13:15I mean, you'll just be kind of back at square one.
13:16See where it goes.
13:18Yeah.
13:18But, we'll see where, you know, that's going to be limited to, excuse me, the introduced
13:23in the next...
13:23Who's introducing that?
13:24The government.
13:26Yeah, when you say the government, like, who do you mean?
13:28I just said Ted Cruz.
13:30You said Ted Cruz and some lady you've never heard of.
13:31Ted Cruz is the Republican side.
13:33Does that include the five years of eligibility?
13:36Five years?
13:37I think a lot of the, you know, a lot of the details are still...
13:41Yeah.
13:42Shouldn't the NCAA be handling this instead of the federal government?
13:45Yeah, but they can't.
13:46Yeah, but they're incompetent.
13:46They can't, and the players go to the judges of whatever state they're in or county, and
13:51the judge says, yeah, you're right, buddy.
13:53They can't do this.
13:55But, if the government gets involved, then maybe they won't be able to do it.
13:58Phone number you want to get in touch with us throughout the show is 1-800-636-1067.
14:03Remember, Paul Timoni, president of the Washington Nationals, president of baseball operations.
14:08He'll jump on at 9 o'clock.
14:10You're on the fan.
