Transcript
00:00Commanders fans, I think you'd like this. I was on YouTube yesterday, just kind of
00:03You love YouTube. You are low-key, a big-time YouTube consumer.
00:08I'm always on YouTube.
00:09Do you watch more YouTube than you watch, like, over-the-air TV?
00:15It sounds like you kind of do.
00:16No, probably not, but during the day when I'm in my office, I've got my computer set up,
00:21and I'm just scrolling, looking at stories, and on the other side, I've got the YouTube up.
00:27Okay. Sometimes I go to YouTube, and I just punch in one of these AI, like, beach scenes.
00:34Okay. You just want some serenity?
00:37Yeah, just ocean air and ocean waves crashing down. I just like the sound of it, so I'll have that
00:44on this side.
00:45Just type in a Dewey beach scene, Jason.
00:47I wonder if I could find one right now. But anyway, so I was on it yesterday, and I came
00:51across this,
00:53Travy, have you seen this yet? 72 hours. It's titled 72 hours in L.A. with the Commanders.
01:00All right.
01:00And they're at UCLA.
01:02Okay.
01:02Jaden Daniels, Deami Brown, Terry McLaurin, and there's a couple.
01:07C.J. Stroud's there, but they don't really focus on him. It's just more the Commander players.
01:11There's a couple other receivers. One's a South Carolina commit, and there's one other one,
01:16but they don't really talk to him. It's basically just Jaden McLaurin and Deami Brown.
01:21Like behind the scenes, showing them working out.
01:22Working out and stuff, right?
01:24Dude, it's pretty cool. It's pretty funny.
01:28Deami Brown, I'm sorry. I like that guy. I want Deami Brown to be a star.
01:31I want him to make the team and be on the field all the time.
01:35What's so great about Deami Brown?
01:35He's just funny.
01:36He's just a funny dude.
01:37He's funny, man. I don't know. And he looks, I understand these guys are NFL players,
01:42but he looks like he can be a star. The way he's working out, the way he's running routes
01:49and catching balls. Again, there's no DBs. It's just Jaden throwing to Deami and Terry McLaurin.
01:56There's a lot of room for him if he can be that guy and hits. He has opportunity in this
02:03room here in D.C.
02:05You're talking about Deami?
02:06Yes.
02:06Yeah, I know. And the odds are stacked against him.
02:09There's a void to be filled.
02:10He could be the guy.
02:12Based on how he's played and the numbers he's put up.
02:14But he just seems like a good dude. I want Deami Brown on the show. I want him in studio.
02:19I saw a clip of them working out.
02:21Yeah.
02:24It's really cool. It's about 24 minutes long.
02:27And just the way they get along with McClure and Deami just get along great. Jaden's great.
02:32I don't know. I'm a bigger fan of Deami than I ever was before.
02:37I doubt you could have been a big fan.
02:39So, of course, you're going to be bigger.
02:41Of course, I wasn't. I just hope it works out for him.
02:45Because, man, he just looks so good in these workouts.
02:49He's fast. His route running's great.
02:51He was catching everything.
02:53I mean, it's pretty cool.
02:54He's still a young guy, too. He's only 26.
02:56He's young.
02:57So, if you get a chance, it's only about 24 minutes long.
03:00It's called 72 Hours in L.A. with the Commanders.
03:04Guys working out on UCLA's campus.
03:06Nice.
03:07It's pretty cool.
03:08You've got to check it out.
03:12Hello? Anything?
03:13His high, by the way, in targets here was 40 in the year that he left before he went to
03:19Jacksonville.
03:19Yeah, I'm hoping that...
03:21Can we get 50, 55, 60 targets?
03:24Might be able to do more work if that's the case.
03:27I don't know. I mean, what's the knock on him?
03:28Is it the route running? Is it bad hands?
03:30I mean, why isn't he getting more reps during games?
03:35Like, why hasn't he jumped the depth chart a little bit?
03:37This is just... This is an armchair analyst bit that I'm doing.
03:40I think he's pegged as more of just, like, a go-deep guy.
03:45Like, a guy that hit big plays.
03:48That was his reputation in college, too.
03:49And doesn't do a lot of, like, the mid, short, underneath type of work.
03:53Like, it's not really his thing.
03:54I've got to figure that he's been working on that.
03:56I would hope.
03:57I mean, any coach, any wide receiver coach in OC would say,
04:00Bro, I understand you've got speed to go deep, and we could throw it to you that way,
04:04but you could also get open in the middle of the field.
04:05Right, you could catch a five-yard pass and take an extra 20 or 30.
04:09Right.
04:09That formula can work, too.
04:11Right, right, right.
04:11Well, the Jags gave him a bunch of money, and he gave him 20 catches.
04:15I know, I know.
04:15Well, he was injured some, but he wasn't a healthy scratch for the playoffs.
04:21He played 14 games.
04:22Yeah.
04:24So, really inconsistent, for sure.
04:25Jason, I am watching this.
04:27Yeah.
04:27I mean, I'm listening to you, so I'm not listening to the audio right now.
04:30But it does look very entertaining.
04:31It's pretty cool.
04:32Looks like they've got a good bond between these guys.
04:35They do.
04:35And they're rooting each other on.
04:37So, I'm definitely intrigued.
04:38I will bookmark this and watch this this afternoon.
04:42Yeah.
04:42Yeah, thanks for sharing.
04:43I had no idea about this.
04:44Yeah, it's pretty cool.
04:45And I understand that De'Ami Brown's reputation in college when he was coming out was he was just a
04:49deep threat guy at North Carolina.
04:51And he was good at it.
04:52I mean, he put up some pretty good numbers.
04:56And it's easier to do that in college when you're not facing NFL caliber DBs.
05:02But once he gets into the pros, you're obviously facing a lot better defenses.
05:05But I don't know.
05:08I just hope it works out for De'Ami Brown.
05:10I hope he's able to, first of all, make the team and then be in the top three or four.
05:14In four seasons in Washington, he amassed four touchdowns.
05:18I know.
05:19I know.
05:20His high water mark was, I can't remember what year it was, but I remember it was Carson Wentz threw
05:24him two long touchdowns.
05:27Well, I'm not sure how long.
05:28Can't be two long touchdowns.
05:29Two touchdowns in one game against the Titans, I believe it was.
05:32And it opened your eyes as to, I mean, he can be an explosive player.
05:38It's just about getting consistency.
05:40Right.
05:40Exactly.
05:41Maybe working some different routes in, becoming an all-around wide out instead of just a go-route guy.
05:47Right.
05:47Or a guy that's good at running two routes.
05:49He can just move.
05:51And if he's, and I understand he's just working out on a field with Jaden and there's no DBs, but
05:57man, he just looks so good.
05:59So I'm hoping that he's taking that next step.
06:02The problem for him.
06:03Cakes, you went back to October 9th.
06:05Yeah.
06:062022.
06:07Okay.
06:08Those were his only two touchdowns of the season.
06:10And it was Carson Wentz throwing the ball, right?
06:12I believe that's correct.
06:13Carson Wentz, two touchdown passes to De'Ami Brown.
06:16How long were they?
06:17We had two catches for 105 yards.
06:19So his average was 52 and a half.
06:21Okay.
06:21I guess he had one that was 75.
06:23I knew at least one was a long one.
06:25And then what is that?
06:26The math.
06:27The other one is 30.
06:29Yep.
06:29Yeah.
06:30I mean, his short catch was 30 yards.
06:32That's pretty impressive.
06:33The problem for De'Ami Brown is if Brandon Ayuk shows up.
06:39If Brandon Ayuk shows up, that's going to seriously hamper his chances, his opportunities, his time on the field.
06:46Or if Antonio Williams, the guy they drafted, is legit enough to actually be a number two receiver and not
06:53necessarily just a soft receiver.
06:54Oh, look.
06:54I mean, if Antonio Williams was on this video running routes and catching balls, you'd say, oh, he's going to
06:58be a freaking star.
06:59Now, the problem with Brandon Ayuk cutting into his playing time is can teams get in touch with Brandon Ayuk?
07:07Have you seen the latest on Brandon Ayuk?
07:09Yes.
07:10Adam Shepter said the Niners and other teams, so the team he's currently with and other teams are having a
07:17hard time getting a hold of Brandon Ayuk as the team attempts to trade him.
07:22So they just keep calling and texting him.
07:24He's not responding.
07:24Here's the quote.
07:25I think the reason the team is not trading for him right now is they don't want to assume the
07:28current contract that he has.
07:30It's a situation where he hasn't been in clear and constant communication with the Niners, and they have had a
07:35hard time getting a hold of him.
07:37Right.
07:37Other teams have attempted to reach out, and they have had a hard time getting a hold of him.
07:42They need to slide into his DMs because the only activity is apparently Instagram.
07:47He posts pictures on Instagram.
07:49I mean.
07:50And then people say he looks chunky.
07:52Isn't this another red flag for the Commanders and probably every other team in the NFL to stay away from
07:58Brandon Ayuk?
08:00Yeah.
08:01He's not even willing to pick up his phone to respond and talk to people?
08:06Yeah.
08:06I mean, I wouldn't touch him.
08:07What is this guy doing, and who is giving him this advice at this point in his career?
08:12Is he being led down the wrong road by his agent?
08:15Is this all his doing?
08:16It could be up here.
08:17That's just the way he's wired.
08:20I would be a million miles out on Brandon Ayuk.
08:24Yeah, I agree.
08:25I totally agree.
08:27Unless, here's the one caveat, unless you feel like pairing him up with his buddy, Jaden Daniels, is going to
08:35bring out the best in Brandon Ayuk.
08:37I don't know if it's worth the risk.
08:38And that's something Adam Peters knows Brandon Ayuk.
08:41He was there when he was drafted.
08:42I don't know if it's worth the risk, though.
08:44Not sure if it's worth it.
08:46Especially after the injury.
08:47Look, if he was 100% injury-free, and he had put up great numbers, and now he's acting that
08:53way, all right, that's a little different.
08:55But if you couple that fact with the injury, I couldn't touch him.
08:59Right?
09:00I couldn't touch him.
09:01But I think the commanders, they're going to be hot after him.
09:03I know.
09:04It seems like the breadcrumbs are out there that they're going to go after Brandon Ayuk, and they're going to
09:08bring him here.
09:09Let's see.
09:10Let's see how it works out.
09:11I'm not convinced on that.
09:12I'm not convinced, but if I had to place a bet, I would bet that he winds up with the
09:17commanders over another team.
09:20Is A.J. Brown going to be traded in the next few weeks?
09:23I think it has to be like a post-June 1 thing.
09:25Post-June 1?
09:26Yeah.
09:26So probably in about a month.
09:27Yeah.
09:28I would guess.
09:28It'll be interesting to see where he goes.
09:30I know the rumors are New England.
09:32Right.
09:33But it'll be interesting to see where he goes.
09:35Right.
09:36Because the Eagles added Lemon, and they also drafted a tight end in the second round.
09:40Yeah.
09:40They also added Hollywood Brown.
09:42They also traded for Dontavian Wicks from the Packers.
09:46Like, they're getting that wideout room ready for life without A.J. Brown.
09:50Yeah.
09:51They're preparing for it.
09:52So anyway, if you have a chance, it's only, like I said, it's a 24-minute long video.
09:57It's pretty cool.
09:58And I guarantee you're going to be a Deami Brown fan.
10:00You should do something that nobody has ever done on Fanatics.
10:04What's that?
10:05Order a Deami Brown Commander's jersey.
10:08Man, probably not going to do that.
10:09You should probably do that.
10:10Or see if there's a shirt, a shirt, a jersey available.
10:13There's probably not.
10:15I'll tell you what.
10:15Our boys over at, you know, in PR over there at Washington, they'd probably send us one.
10:19I mean, they might.
10:21I'd wear that.
10:23It sounds like you would.
10:25You're a big Deami Brown guy.
10:27He's just funny.
10:28He just seems like a good dude.
10:30What about Jaden?
10:31Jaden's awesome.
10:32In the video, yeah, he's really cool.
10:35But we kind of knew what kind of personality Jaden had.
10:37Does it make you want to root for him more than you root for your guy, Drake May?
10:41Who, Jaden?
10:41Yeah.
10:42I don't root against Jaden.
10:44I mean, I want the team to do well.
10:46I'm not saying you root against Jaden.
10:47Yeah.
10:47But I think you root more vociferously for Drake May than you do for Jaden.
10:51Just because we had that dumb draft board thing and you want to be right.
10:55Want your guy.
10:56Yeah.
10:56Want your guy to do well.
10:57I mean, I like both of them, but yeah, I like Drake May slightly better.
11:04But yeah, check that video out.
11:05It's pretty cool.
11:08All right.
11:09You want to jump into the Junkie Sports page?
11:11Tell us what happened in the world of sports last night.
11:13Yeah, sports page is brought to you by good friends at Open Road.
11:17Elevate your home bar with Open Road Distilling Company.
11:20Spirits locally crafted in Reston.
11:21You can find their Eagle Eye Rye, Maple Old Fashioned, and Independence Bourbon.
11:25All available at ABC stores in Northern Virginia.
11:31You know, we've been talking about sports gambling with some of these athletes over the last few months.
11:38Actually, years.
11:39It's been it's it's getting bigger and bigger and bigger and more of a problem.
11:43Well, Texas Tech has a quarterback.
11:45It's his name is Brendan Sorsby.
11:47He played at Indiana for two years.
11:49Then he transferred to Cincinnati and he had a really good year last year.
11:53He was pretty much the number one quarterback in the transfer portal after the season.
11:58Yeah, he got about five million dollars to go to Texas.
12:01Yeah, I saw four, but maybe it is up as high as five.
12:04Yeah, somewhere in that range, four to five million bucks.
12:07But he's, you know, he's going to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country this year.
12:13He was going to be in the Heisman race.
12:15He certainly would probably get drafted.
12:17I'm not sure how high.
12:18He's about 6'3", 220.
12:19He can run.
12:21He had 18 rushing touchdowns the last couple of years with Cincinnati.
12:26Well, the NCAA is investigating Sorsby's gambling, according to sources, as the organization forbids athletes from betting on both college
12:36and pro sports.
12:37He admitted to making thousands of bets.
12:40Now, he he never bet against his team.
12:43He never bet on games that he played in.
12:46He definitely bet on Indiana games.
12:49Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:49But he said anyway, so he he's going to rehab.
12:56He's got a he has a gambling.
12:58He's got a gambling addiction.
12:59Big time.
12:59These stories are inevitable with the way that we can just bet on our phone.
13:04So easy.
13:04Inevitable.
13:05Well, not only now, you would think like a guy who's making five million dollars would protect his ability to
13:12continue to make that NIL money.
13:14Yeah.
13:14But it's it's all these kids are betting.
13:18If you have an addiction to something, no matter it doesn't matter what your economic status is, how much money
13:23you have in the bank, you're addicted to gambling or drugs or alcohol.
13:27You just can't help yourself.
13:28I mean, good for him for checking into rehab and trying to kick the habit.
13:34He's he's hoping that the NCAA says, OK, this is good.
13:38You can get this fixed.
13:39Right.
13:39And we're only going to suspend you for 30 percent of the season or 50 percent of the season as
13:44opposed to banning you, which they could.
13:46It's entirely possible.
13:47They could say, sorry, Brent, you're done.
13:49You can never play college sports again.
13:51Yeah.
13:52But especially with this NIL money coming in, he's got flush with money like he's got money.
13:57It's not hard for him to reload whatever account.
14:00So if there was no such thing as NIL, all right, Sorsby might be putting 25 bucks a game.
14:05Yeah.
14:05Or less 10 bucks.
14:06But you get five million bucks.
14:08You're putting a lot of money on these games.
14:10Yeah.
14:10I mean, I don't know what he had prior to going to Texas Tech, but I'm sure he was getting
14:14some sort of.
14:15Oh, he got some money.
14:15It's some NIL cash from Cincy.
14:18Sure.
14:18Probably not at Indiana if he was a backup, but no, but, you know, he got more and more and
14:23more as he was getting older.
14:26But again, that sounds like he's a better like you because they said his gambling was a steady flurry of
14:33small bets.
14:35Right.
14:36Did you take him under your wing, Jason?
14:39I did not.
14:40Probably just needs the action like you.
14:42Look, I would agree that I'm addicted to sports betting, but I've got it under control where I'm fine with
14:50a $5 wager.
14:51Yeah.
14:52I'm fine with it.
14:53Now, I don't know how much Sorsby was betting.
14:56I mean, he could have been betting 5, 10, 15 bucks, but I'm guessing he wasn't.
15:00I'm guessing he was betting more than that.
15:02Um, and he was placing a lot of bets, but I, I've reigned it in.
15:08I mean, when I was younger, when I was my early college years, I was betting money that I didn't
15:12have.
15:13Right.
15:14Okay.
15:14So I was betting all been in that boat.
15:16Yeah.
15:16I mean, I was making stupid bets and putting a lot of money on, on sports, um, betting that I
15:22didn't have.
15:23And then when I lost, I would have to ask people for money to pay off the bookies.
15:27Right.
15:28I would, but as I got older and I valued the money and, but I still had the addiction.
15:35Yeah.
15:35I was able to, for some reason, I was able just to put five bucks on a game, 10 bucks
15:39on a game.
15:40Um, still do it.
15:41I mean, I, I made a couple of bets last night, right?
15:44$5 bets on baseball.
15:46Now $5 to win 47 bucks, $5 to win $102.
15:51Um, but that's the way I, I bet now, but I do have the addiction.
15:56Soresby, um, this could be bad and this could be bad for Texas tech too, because their backup
16:02situation at quarterback is dicey.
16:06They've got a guy, Will Hammond, who had an ACL tear last year.
16:09Yeah.
16:10All right.
16:11And they got a red shirt freshman who's never played a game.
16:14Um, they've got another kid who transferred in, who was just going to be a backup.
16:18So they were going to go from preseason.
16:21I'm guessing top five.
16:23If they lose Soresby, it could be a disastrous year for Texas tech.
16:26When we come back, we'll update you on last night's NBA playoffs results.
16:31And don't forget coming up at eight o'clock, Dave Richard from CBS sports.com.
16:36Their fantasy expert.
16:37He's going to tell you where you should be drafting.
16:39Some of these rookies that went in the 2026 NFL draft.
16:42He'll join us coming up at eight o'clock this morning.
