04:35locations and 360 field trips take learners to historical places on the underground railroad
04:45harriet
04:46born into slavery harriet tubman escaped bondage in 1849 by following the north star to pennsylvania
04:52known as moses she guided dozens of enslaved people along the underground railroad
04:59tubman became the railroad's most famous conductor by helping numerous slaves over the course of 13 separate recovery missions
05:07her her many rescues along the railroad's various paths familiarized her with towns and transportation routes
05:13when harriet could speak to captives she gathered intel about what they'd seen and heard
05:18her knowledge of the terrain and her connection to slaves made tubman valuable to union commanders
05:24in addition to aiding with information during the american civil war harriet also nursed wounded and dying union army men
