00:00The Houston Astros fired a combined no-hitter on Monday night.
00:05It was Tatsuya Imai that got the ball in a start for the Houston Astros,
00:09and he fired no-hit innings.
00:12He did walk four, Imai did, but then he hands it off to Stephen Okert for one.
00:18Imai, six no-hit innings.
00:19Okert for a hitless seventh.
00:21And then Alimber Santa, in his major league debut,
00:25fired two perfect innings, and the final out recorded
00:28in a combined no-no was his first major league strikeout.
00:31Houston beats Texas 9-0 in Arlington,
00:36and Imai, Okert, and Santa combined for the no-hitter.
00:39It's the first no-hitter in the big league since 2024.
00:42And this note from Sarah Langs,
00:44Alimber Santa is the second player in major league history
00:47to pitch in a no-hitter in his MLB debut.
00:50The only other guy, Bumpus Jones, in 1892,
00:55who threw a no-hitter in his major league debut.
00:57Who would have thought Bumpus Jones and Alimber Santa
01:00were going to be the two guys on the list?
01:02You know what's awesome, too, is a couple of things
01:05that are awesome about baseball.
01:06One, Bumpus Jones, he's probably not been mentioned in 30 years.
01:12I hope for his lineage sake.
01:14Maybe I'm being rude, but I'd imagine Bumpus Jones,
01:18it's been so long.
01:19I don't know.
01:19Maybe his name, the full name.
01:22Maybe they were talking about Grandpa Bump or something like that.
01:25But, like, I don't think anyone said full name Bumpus Jones
01:28maybe in a lot of years.
01:30And you never know what happens.
01:32Always Sarah Langs will find a way to bring him back up
01:35with her amazing stats.
01:36I'm like, here we go.
01:36We're mentioning something from there.
01:38The other part that's amazing is,
01:40this is the worst pitching staff in major league baseball,
01:42and they just threw a no-hitter.
01:43That's why this sport is absolutely amazing.
01:45Worst pitching staff, 5.0 ADRA after the no-hitter as a team.
01:49That is the worst in major league baseball,
01:50behind the Rockies, behind the Angels.
01:52The other aspect that I love about this is,
01:54this was a pitcher that was just, like, on the IL for arm fatigue,
01:58but it was, can't adjust-itis,
02:00and, like, still learning how to understand, like,
02:03also very funny, I don't know if you saw the video
02:05of him doing the coffee run with the team.
02:07Yeah, that was great.
02:08He looked like a fish out of water there.
02:10It's how two am I I'm rooting for.
02:12One, selfishly, because I put a very bullish report out on him.
02:15But two, because any time you see a player come over,
02:17you want to see them succeed.
02:18I can't imagine how difficult it is to make that leap.
02:21Now, millions of dollars makes it easier,
02:22but still got to be very difficult to do it.
02:25This guy is coming off of just not even being able to adjust
02:28and being putrid on the mound.
02:29The rest of his team is putrid on the mound,
02:31and it wasn't just him doing it himself.
02:32He handed it over to the rest of the team
02:34that's also been putrid on the mound,
02:35and they close out a no-hitter in the first since 24.
02:39And that's why baseball is wonderfully unpredictable
02:41and just the best sport.
02:43And you would think if it was going to be anybody in Houston
02:46to get the ball rolling on a no-hitter,
02:48it would be Arregetti.
02:49Spencer Arregetti has been the lone bright spot
02:51in that Astro rotation on that Astro pitching staff.
02:54But you've got Santa closing that thing out.
02:56There's no Brian Abreu.
02:57Abreu has been awful so far this year,
03:00and it sucks for him.
03:00It's a contract year.
03:01But Imai, the subplot there,
03:04you mentioned can't adjust Ides.
03:05This guy fired six no-hit innings
03:08to lower his season ERA to 6.17.
03:12It's so cool.
03:13And this is where you get the JT Ginn flirting with a no-hitter.
03:18This is where you get the last perfect game we had,
03:21Domingo Herman after midnight Eastern in Oakland against the A's.
03:26Just crazy there that I guess this Astros version
03:31is the one to throw the no-hitter.
03:33But Houston, I would ask you if this is a sign
03:36of encouraging baseball for the Houston Astros.
03:38I can't do that over the course of one night.
03:41Like, no.
03:43Houston is still, it seems like, dead in the water.
03:46But good for the Astros on Monday night
03:49and happy for them that they were able to lock up
03:51the first no-hitter in Major League Baseball since 24.
03:54Also, with how much we talk about pitching dominance,
03:56it's amazing to think we went an entire year last year
03:59without a no-hitter.
04:00And we made it until May 25th without one this year.
04:02We were complaining, I think, in 23 on the show.
04:05At least I was complaining.
04:06Too many no-hitters.
04:07Yeah, I was like, these are getting lame.
04:09Here we are.
04:11The last thing I'll say on this, though,
04:12is I do still think this team is kind of flailing in the water.
04:15We've talked about it.
04:16I've made a case that if it doesn't get better,
04:18they should trade Jordan.
04:20However, they got one last little shot at this thing here
04:23because they swept over the weekend.
04:24They throw the snow-hitter.
04:26If Amai is starting to throw the ball a little bit better,
04:28all of a sudden, you've got Josh Hader on rehab.
04:32He dominated in his rehab outing.
04:34I think Hunter Brown just threw a rehab outing.
04:36Those two guys coming back would help a lot.
04:38They're going to get some guys off the IL eventually.
04:41And Diaz, maybe Altuve, they're both obliqued out,
04:44so it might be a little bit of time.
04:46A little perfido will come back.
04:47Tramiel is on rehab.
04:48I don't know.
04:49You can dream on them just hitting a parlay only because the AL is horrific.
04:55So I still think this team is not good, and they ultimately end up selling.
04:59However, if I'm an Astros fan, if an Astros fan asks me,
05:03I'm not calling you delusional for saying,
05:05hey, I think we could find our way into this thing
05:08and play some meaningful games in September
05:09just because they have positive things coming back here,
05:12and maybe some guys are starting to put it together.
05:14But, again, I still think it's not going to happen.
05:17Not fully delusional just to keep hoping for it, though.
