The Sports Junkies recap Memorial Day Weekend.
Transcript
00:00We'll give our full Dewey recap at 7, but spending a good amount of time at Dewey, it can work
00:07wonders on your body.
00:10Yeah, my voice is messed up.
00:12Yeah, I think at least three of the four junks.
00:15I don't know about Jason, but showing some wear and tear.
00:17And we didn't even last into the wee hours like some of the other people on the show.
00:22We'll detail all of that.
00:24We'll give you the full Dewey recap at 7 a.m.
00:28So what day did you come back, though?
00:29Left Friday.
00:31You ended up coming back on Friday after you were supposedly going to be staying there Friday night.
00:34Made an executive call to come back Friday.
00:37So you didn't want to spend the night with Rahm again.
00:38I was thankful that you did because you took Rahm home.
00:40I didn't think I could spend another night with Rahm.
00:44I think that was what it did.
00:45But you rode with him.
00:47Yes.
00:47So did you see his new mansion?
00:49I did not.
00:50Because he drove to my house and then he drove.
00:53Because, I mean, look, hadn't I done enough, I'm going to drive to his house
00:57and chauffeur him from his house to Dewey Beach?
01:01No, you didn't enough.
01:02I did more than enough.
01:03You did enough.
01:04As far as...
01:04And I was thankful that you left.
01:06Because I saw you getting in the car and leaving.
01:08I was like, oh, thank God.
01:09You said Dewey Beach is a better place.
01:11Thank God.
01:12That it's Rahm free.
01:13Well, at least you got to get home for the fantastic weather all weekend.
01:16Oh, no, the weather sucked.
01:16It was great.
01:17It was awesome.
01:17So the pool opens up.
01:19You know, it's a big deal in all your neighborhoods when the pool opens up.
01:22Sure.
01:23And if you have a young one at home, like I have a nine-year-old,
01:27the pool generally would be something to entertain them with.
01:29Right.
01:30And when it just rains, it just ruins all plans.
01:32I knew the pool was open at Norbeck.
01:33I never, even for a second, considered going.
01:37Is that your home pool?
01:37Don't you have one?
01:38No, I used to be at a different pool.
01:40But now that I belong to Norbeck, I'm like, that's part of the deal.
01:43Never once considered it.
01:45But also because when I joined, our guy, Pat, said,
01:50you don't want to go on Memorial Day weekend, July 4th weekend,
01:54or Labor Day weekend.
01:56Right, right.
01:56Because it's just too much of a mob seat.
01:58Yeah.
01:58So the weather combined with I would never go Memorial Day weekend,
02:03even if it was 90 degrees, kept me a million miles away.
02:06Well, there was nobody there.
02:07Trust me, because I was there.
02:08Oh, sure.
02:08I mean, it's 60 degrees, and it's raining.
02:11Yeah.
02:11Of course.
02:11I drove by our pool, and there was like four or five stragglers.
02:14Well, that's insane.
02:16No, the water's going to be cold.
02:18It's not a pool weekend.
02:19I don't even like getting into the pool in early June if it's 80 degrees out,
02:23because I know the water's going to be cold.
02:26Let alone in late May, 60 degrees with a downpour.
02:31My youngest has been lifeguarding for years.
02:33I think a lot of our daughters have lifeguarded.
02:35Yeah.
02:35Their sons, whatever.
02:36And, you know, it's like weird, like every third year or something, you got to recertify.
02:42Sure.
02:42So she was in the pool for like eight hours about three weeks ago.
02:47Okay.
02:47Just training?
02:48Just training.
02:49And it was just, I mean, butt cold.
02:51Did she come out sounding like us?
02:52I mean, just butt cold.
02:54I don't know.
02:54Did she make a save during her tenure?
02:56I never asked.
02:57While we were doing, I felt like I had to at least go and see the ocean.
03:02Like, put my feet in the sand, walk up and down the beach for a little bit.
03:05I planned on doing it.
03:06I never did.
03:07So I did it twice.
03:07The ocean was crazy.
03:08The ocean was crazy.
03:09So I went and I just, I videoed it for like 15 or 20 seconds to send to my kids.
03:14As I'm videoing it, one of the other weirdos on the beach when it was like 55 degrees, pouring rain,
03:21he looks at me, he goes, I think he was British.
03:24He's like, did you go in earlier?
03:25And I looked at him like, I mean, these are insane conditions.
03:29There's nobody, literally there's nobody in the water.
03:31There's nobody even within 50 feet of the water.
03:33Do you think you were a surfer?
03:34I was just like, no, dude, didn't go in.
03:37Probably not going to go in.
03:38Actually, no chance I would go in.
03:40The ocean was nuts.
03:41I'm surprised that you didn't stay.
03:43I came back on Friday because we had a soccer tournament Saturday and Sunday, four games through two days.
03:49Bethesda won the championship, so that was cool.
03:51But yesterday was a to-do day.
03:54I can't do anything.
03:56I tried to change a door handle.
04:00Should be easy.
04:01Bought a door handle at Lowe's.
04:04I've dabbled with that before.
04:05It's not as easy as you think.
04:07The brand of the door handle was quick set.
04:09Yeah.
04:09Should be quick.
04:11After an hour, I tapped out.
04:13I'm going to call him a handyman.
04:14I got three quarters of it done, but I just could not line up these two screws to put the
04:19other side of the handle in.
04:20And I got so frustrated.
04:23Should have called my wife.
04:24My wife would have come over there for $45 an hour.
04:27I got so frustrated.
04:28We have a couple other jobs that the handyman needs to do around the house.
04:32I was like, you know what?
04:32Just add that to the list.
04:34And I've been delaying.
04:35Add it to the list.
04:37So frustrating.
04:39Look, I know what I can and can't do around the house.
04:43And trust me, the can't do list is way longer than the can do.
04:47Replacing an entire lock mechanism on a door, that's on the can't do list.
04:51It's embarrassing.
04:52That is either talk to my guy next door, talk to Kevin, or call my more manly brother-in-law,
04:58Steve.
04:59I'm pretty sure my wife has done that.
05:01But not me.
05:02It's embarrassing.
05:03I should have been able to pull it off.
05:05You know what?
05:05Michael, exactly.
05:06We're in our mid-50s.
05:07Our wives take care of that.
05:08We're not going to get better at being handy.
05:10Yeah.
05:11The worst part is I did three quarters, but then I had to take it all out.
05:14See, that's embarrassing.
05:16It's less embarrassing to just call somebody in that knows what they're doing than to try it,
05:22fail in front of everybody, and then have to tuck your tail between your legs and have
05:27somebody more manly come in and follow up on your work.
05:29I sent a text to our guy, Luis, and I said, this is embarrassing.
05:34I need you to fix a door handle.
05:35There are a couple other odd jobs if you can do it.
05:38And he said, is it urgent?
05:39I said, nope.
05:40Because now you can just open the door and close.
05:43It just doesn't have a door handle.
05:44Took it all out.
05:45It's a problem.
05:46Took it all out.
05:47Into like a bedroom or something?
05:48It's the garage door.
05:49Oh, okay.
05:50Got you.
05:50The door handle.
05:51But for whatever reason, the handle kept falling off on the other side.
05:54And I would basically band-aid it and fix it, but it wasn't a long-term solution.
05:58So I took that out, went to Lowe's, got the quick set, installed three quarters of it,
06:05and just couldn't do the last step.
06:07And after a half an hour or so, I didn't need to YouTube it.
06:11I can see exactly what needs to be done.
06:13I just couldn't execute it.
06:14Maybe there's a trick.
06:14Maybe there's a trick that would help you.
06:17He's just, he's incapable.
06:19Yeah.
06:19I just can't do it.
06:20All right.
06:21And look, I can't do it either.
06:22I'm not goofing on him.
06:23He just, he should have known he couldn't do it.
06:25I actually think you could do it.
06:27It was one of those deals where, I don't know, I think I was in a tunnel.
06:31Somebody actually told me, take an hour off and go back to it.
06:35Not interested.
06:36No, you take an hour off.
06:37You're taking all the hours off.
06:38JP, if you do go to YouTube, there could be something with it that makes it, like a step that
06:43you can do or skip that makes it easier because that brand is always causing problems with
06:50people installing it themselves.
06:52That brand quick set?
06:54What's a quick set?
06:56It's just the name of the brand.
06:57It's just the name of the brand.
06:58Is that what you're talking about?
06:58You're talking about that brand?
07:00He's just saying in general.
07:01He's just saying in general.
07:02Yeah, yeah.
07:02In general, sometimes a certain brand can give you a hard time and then someone can discover
07:09something that's easier to do that helps put it together on YouTube that you
07:13had no idea about.
07:14Right.
07:14Pretty much anything that you have to fix or anything, you can YouTube it and somebody
07:18has done it.
07:19Yeah, you have the instructions laid out for you, but if you just watched a four-minute
07:22video on YouTube, it could be helpful.
07:24Yeah.
07:25That's how he did it.
07:26It's possible.
07:27Not saying it's worth your while, but you could do that probably.
07:31The quick set got me in an arm bar and I tapped out.
07:34As you should have.
07:35Sometimes people get out of the arm bar.
07:37I tapped.
07:38I mean, I don't watch a lot of UFC.
07:40I've never seen one person escape an arm bar.
07:42But again, I'm not Luke Thomas.
07:44I'm not Mike Mark.
07:46I don't watch a ton of UFC.
07:48Usually when you get the arm bar on you, it's tap out.
07:51Well, the weather was so kind of mediocre that all I did was sit around and watch golf.
07:58I watched NBA.
08:00I watched lacrosse.
08:02Yeah.
08:02And I watched the Nats yesterday.
08:05Yeah.
08:05I actually watched a ton.
08:06Nice.
08:07I watched sports in the last two, three days that I'm probably having a month.
08:09Did you come back on Friday or Saturday?
08:11I came back on Saturday.
08:12Oh, yeah.
08:12Yeah.
08:13No, no.
08:13We had a great time.
08:14I saw EB and his group just trudging down Coastal Highway as I pulled out of Dewey Beach.
08:19They were still getting after it.
08:20Oh, yeah.
08:21Like 5 o'clock.
08:23That was the last I saw Dewey Beach.
08:24How long was your trip?
08:25You left at 5 and landed in only at what time?
08:288 o'clock?
08:30A little bit after 8.
08:31I'll get into all the details later when we recap.
08:34So you did have traffic?
08:35There were several unscheduled stops on the way home.
08:40Had nothing to do with traffic.
08:41I'm not sure I want to hear about that.
08:42Had nothing to do with traffic.
08:43I'm never bringing Rahm to Dewey Beach again.
08:46Let me just say that.
08:47You really should lose his number.
08:49You should block him.
08:49Too many times Cakes has said, I'm never doing a blank with Rahm.
08:53He does it.
08:53Deep down, he loves it.
08:54I'm never sharing a room with Rahm again.
08:57And then the next trip, he shares a room with Rahm.
08:59If he gets there on his own, I'll hang out with him outside of the hotel room.
09:03Why?
09:04I don't know.
09:06But staying in the hotel room and ruining my sleep, that I can't have.
09:11That's a bridge too far.
09:13Heard it before.
09:14It's a bridge way too far.
09:15He will be banned.
09:17Like he's banned from a lot of casinos.
09:19He'll be banned from my hotel room next year when we're in Dewey Beach.
09:23All right.
09:23So we'll do the full Dewey recap coming up at 7 o'clock.
09:27When we come back, we'll get into the Junk's sports page,
09:29get you up to date on the NBA playoffs, the Nats, and more.
09:33We'll do that next here on The Fan.
09:34We'll do that next here on The Fan.
