00:00MTA released a statement sharing their condolences for the grieving families of the two teenage girls found dead at the
00:07Marcy Avenue subway station.
00:09The gruesome discovery was made about 3 o'clock this morning.
00:13Eyewitness News reporter Crystal Cranmore has the story.
00:16We're not going to stop until we start, prevent all of these subway surfers from taking place.
00:22That was Mayor Adams today vowing to stop the dangerous trend after officials say transit workers discovered two dead teenagers
00:30on top of a subway car, victims of apparent subway surfing.
00:34It's absolutely horrible. I do, yesterday on the train, I heard an announcement saying, like, you know, this is a
00:41problem, it's unsafe.
00:43It happened at the Marcy Avenue stop around 3 o'clock this morning.
00:46A skateboard and a purse appeared to be among the belongings of the girls, one of whom just 13 years
00:53old.
00:53The investigation disrupted J train service for hours as authorities interviewed potential eyewitnesses.
00:59Yes, I know people who do this. One of my, one of my friends, his closest friend died.
01:03For 12-year-old Chloe, this hits close to home.
01:06I know another friend and I tell her to stop all the time, but she doesn't stop.
01:10But Chloe says she won't stop trying to protect her classmates.
01:14They can fall on the tracks anytime, and it's really, like, dangerous.
01:18Like, it just hurts me. Like, it just hurts me.
01:21Like, seeing them, like, subway surf, missing their lives for nothing.
01:25The city has stepped up its efforts to crack down on the dangerous trend using drugs.
01:29Bro, this is, this is just absolutely crazy.
01:32You know the crazy part about this? I saw, I want to see if I can find it.
01:35I literally saw a video, I don't know, like, last week of this exact thing happening.
01:42Just some, some, some young fellas, uh, on top of a subway, just, like, walking around like ain't nothing going
01:50on.
01:52Like, just, just, just chilling, just hanging out, just having a good time.
01:55And it's like, bro, what are y'all doing?
01:57What are y'all doing?
01:59It's just crazy talk.
02:00I mean, like, hold on, wait, wait, uh, was this, was this it?
02:05Nah, that's not the clip.
02:07Was this the clip?
02:09Nah, but here is a clip.
02:11Like, look at this, bro.
02:12Look at this.
02:15Look how far of a drop that is.
02:18And you're moving.
02:22Like, that's just crazy to me, bro.
02:24Like, what, like, how in the world is that, like, considered fun?
02:28You know?
02:31Like, I, I, I, I don't understand.
02:33How, how in the world is that considered fun?
02:35Like, it's, it's not something, like, what, like, when, when, when we was kids, bro, like,
02:42teepeeing, egging, you know?
02:43You, you grab a car to eggs and go egg somebody's car or something.
02:47Like, that was considered fun, right?
02:49Like, y'all, y'all putting y'all life on the line.
02:51Now, granted, I guess, kind of with egging, you kind of put your life on the line, too.
02:54But, you're putting your life on the line.
02:57If you fall off of that train, bro, it's, you're cooked.
03:00You're cooked.
03:01It's over with.
03:01Even if you survive, like, you're not going to be the same.
03:06You're not going to be the same.
03:07So, it's just like, come on, bro.
03:09Come on, man.
03:12It's, it's got to be like a social media thing.
03:14That's the only explanation.
03:16And, even that explanation doesn't even make a whole lot of sense.
03:19Because, at the end of the day, you, you, you're, you're posting something on social media to try to get
03:26more likes.
03:29Okay.
03:29So, when you, when you die, what do you, what do you think those people, like, get to, I don't
03:35know, send you money or something?
03:37Like, bro, you're six feet in the dirt.
03:40You don't come back from that.
03:41Once that light goes off, it ain't coming back on.
03:44So, like, what, what, what is the purpose here?
03:46You literally risking your life for what?
03:50Some likes?
03:51That's what we're doing now?
03:53You ain't even getting paid from this.
03:57You're not even getting paid.
03:58Like, it, it, it would be one thing, and even, even still, it would be stupid.
04:02But, it would be one thing if they were getting, like, millions upon millions of dollars, like, changing their, you
04:07know, their, their, their, their bloodlines, uh, financial circumstances by doing some of this stuff.
04:12But, you're not.
04:13I mean, they're changing it by eliminating themselves, you know, out of the, out of the bloodline.
04:18But, uh, not in, obviously, nothing, nothing good.
04:23They would have at least a little bit of an argument if they were making millions of dollars.
04:28And, like, bro, like, this, this could change my family for generations to come.
04:31That's why I'm doing it.
04:32And, I'm like, I don't agree with that, but, all right, bro, get your money.
04:37You know?
04:37Like, whatever.
04:38I don't agree with it.
04:39Stay safe, you know, but, you, you, you know what I mean?
04:42Like, you would at least have a little bit of an argument if you was making millions of dollars.
04:45But, you're not making anything.
04:48You're not, you, you, you're not making a dollar, not a cent.
04:50Your pocket's filled with a whole lot of lint.
04:53And, you doing this?
04:56For a few extra followers?
04:58I'm, I'm just.
05:00Can we make shame great again?
05:03Can we make shame great again?
05:05We, we, we need the folks back who, who would look at some of these kids that, that are, that
05:09are, that are also kids, too.
05:11That would be like, bro, you stupid.
05:13Man, don't nobody follow him, bro.
05:14You know what I mean?
05:20Condolences to that family, too, man.
05:21Because, man, kids, bro.
05:26I believe they said 13 years old.
05:2913.
05:32I can't imagine how heartbreaking that would be as a parent.
05:36Condolences to that family.
05:38To, to those families.
05:39Because there was two.
05:43Disrupted J-Train service for hours.
05:45As authorities interviewed potential eyewitnesses.
05:48Yes, I know people could do this.
05:49One of my, one of my friends, his closest friend, died.
05:52For 12-year-old Chloe, this hits close to home.
05:55I know another friend, and I tell her to stop all the time, but she just doesn't stop.
05:59But Chloe says she won't stop trying to protect her classmates.
06:03They can fall on the tracks anytime.
06:05And it's really, like, dangerous.
06:07Like, it just hurts me.
06:08Like, it just hurts me.
06:10Like, seeing them, like, stuff they serve, missing their lives for nothing.
06:13The city has stepped up its efforts to crack down on the dangerous trend using drones.
06:18Police deploy the technology and field response teams to subway lines with the highest rates of subway surfing complaints.
06:26Authorities say at least 52 rescues have been made this year.
06:29That's horrific.
06:30I don't know whether they're seeing it on movies.
06:32I don't know where it's coming from.
06:33It sounds like an adrenaline junkie.
06:35According to the NYPD, there were three subway surfing deaths in 2024, and there were three between January 1st and
06:43August 31st of this year.
06:45Obviously, more needs to be done. It's still happening.
06:47New York City Transit President Demetrius Critchlow released a statement saying in part that parents, teachers, and friends all play
06:55a role in stopping this trend by spreading the message that riding on top of subway cars is not surfing.
07:01It's suicide.
07:04And also, we've got to stop glorifying this type of ignorant behavior.
07:08We've got to stop incentivizing it by, you know, liking it and doing that kind of...
07:13Not saying that I do, but there are people that do that, and that's part of the reason why people
07:17do this kind of stuff.
07:18That's part of the reason why they do it, because you can guarantee they all got their phones out recording.
07:22Ooh, look at me. Look at me. Ooh, I'm subway surfing.
07:30Stop glorifying it.
07:32Stop hitting that like button on that kind of content.
07:34And also, people need to sit down with their kids, man, and really have some conversations.
07:40Stop being a follower. Stop being a follower, you know?
07:44Because a lot of these kids, bro, it's because they were influenced by one person in the group to do
07:51something stupid,
07:51and so they all followed along, because typically, the person who always has the bad ideas is the leader of
07:59the group,
07:59and the rest of the people follow, and then they end up in situations like this.
08:03And, you know, not enough folks, especially at a young age, are brave enough to just say, like, nah, bro,
08:12we ain't doing that.
08:13We ain't doing that.
08:14That's stupid, you know?
08:16And it's a shame, man, because kids are losing their lives.
08:19Losing their life before it even really truly starts.
08:2113 years old, gone.
08:24That's sad.
08:2513.
08:26Ain't even experienced a lick of life yet.
08:30Gone already.
08:33Crazy stuff.
08:34Over nothing.
08:35Nothing.
08:36Subway surfing.
08:37For nothing.
08:38For nothing.
08:40They got nothing in exchange for subway surfing.
08:43None of these people do.
08:45They get nothing in exchange.
08:47Nothing.
08:48It makes no sense, man.
08:50It makes absolutely no sense, but...
08:53Once again, rest in peace, man.
08:55Rest in peace and my condolences to the family.
08:5813.
08:5813.
08:59But then also, I thought I heard them say something about 3 in the morning, which is also absolutely crazy.
09:07So, why are these young ones able to be out at all types of...
09:14You know what I'm saying?
09:15Like, boy, man, if I would've got caught outside, you know what would've happened to me?
09:22When I say toe up...
09:24Yeah, and I say toe.
09:25I ain't say tour.
09:27I said toe up.
09:28Toe.
09:28Like, when you towing a vehicle...
09:30Yeah, toe.
09:33Toe up from the flow up.
09:35Boy, I tell y'all...
09:38You know what I'm saying?
09:40Man.
09:40Hey, listen.
09:41My dukes didn't play that.
09:43My dukes did not play that.
09:44None of that.
09:45Mm-mm.
09:46Boy.
09:49Y'all can let me know if y'all parents were the same, but man, nah.
09:53Nah.
09:53Ain't no way.
09:55Ain't no way.
09:55Like, did I want to do some dumb stuff?
09:57And I did do some dumb stuff for sure, but it wasn't that stupid.
10:00Okay?
10:02I wouldn't ride up on top of no train or nothing like that.
10:05No, no, no, no, no, no.
10:07So, if anything, I was afraid of that ass whooping that was going to come.
10:10You know what I'm saying?
10:11Once I got caught.
10:12Boy.
10:13Anyway.
10:14Y'all get in the comments.
10:15Let me know your thoughts and your opinions on this, man.
10:17This is just absolutely crazy and tragic.
10:19And hopefully, we can stop this nonsense so, you know, the young ones amongst us can live
10:25some long and fruitful lives.
10:27All right?
10:28Stay safe out there.
10:29Peace.
10:29Peace.
10:29Peace.
