00:00The name's Bond. James Bond, and he's back in a brand new adventure in 007 First Light,
00:06the franchise's first ever origin story. Here's everything you need to know.
00:11Jump into anime with Crunchyroll.
00:15First Light tells an original, standalone story of how James became 007.
00:19The game picks up with Bond as a 26-year-old recruit from the Royal Navy,
00:23working to earn his license to kill and hot on the tail of rogue agent 009.
00:28Just like the James Bond movies, First Light has players travelling the world
00:32and exploring a number of locations, including snowy mountains and sunny beaches.
00:36Bond's first field assignment takes place at the Grand Carpathian Hotel in Slovakia,
00:41where the recruits must infiltrate a chess tournament.
00:44You'll also infiltrate a corporate tech gala in Kensington, amongst other locations.
00:49James Bond has never been shy to get his knuckles bloody,
00:53and in First Light, the rookie MI6 agent will have the opportunity to get into several scrapes.
00:58This makes for a huge departure from IO's work on the Hitman World of Assassination trilogy,
01:03where combat was always seen as a last resort,
01:06as the studio has been inspired by some of the greatest action games of all time
01:10for its Bond origin story.
01:11Taking a few pages from the Arkham and Uncharted playbook,
01:14the studio is aiming to create a combat system that's fast and furious,
01:18and one which then flows into cinematic set pieces.
01:21What use is a spy who keeps getting caught?
01:23Could have played that a little smoother, James.
01:26Bond can blend in to the crowd, picking up important tidbits of information along the way,
01:30which might just point him toward his goal.
01:32You can also use the gift of the gab to talk your way into situations
01:35that may otherwise be locked off to you, or talk your way out of ones that you've caused.
01:40Bluffing your way through situations won't work if there are certain kinds of enemies nearby,
01:45and it uses up instinct, so keep your wits about you.
01:48Looks like a trust fall gone wrong.
01:49You'll have a number of gadgets at your disposal.
01:52It is a Bond game, after all.
01:53That's what you shouldn't have.
01:55The cue lens can be used to highlight useful information,
01:58the cue watch to neutralize threats,
02:00and the laser strap to create distractions, and more.
02:02So alongside Bond's talent for bluffing, combat skills,
02:05and ability to slow down time when engaged in shootouts,
02:08you should have plenty of tools in your arsenal to successfully complete a mission.
02:12Oh, and for the car aficionados among you, don't worry.
02:15There will be driving sequences in iconic vehicles, so it sounds like the complete Bond package.
02:21While there's no traditional multiplayer,
02:22TAC Sim is a mode that looks inspired by one of Hitman's best post-launch ideas.
02:27Players will get to take on missions with various parameters,
02:30each one designed to test their 00 agents with increasingly challenging objectives.
02:34It sounds similar to Hitman's escalation contract and freelancer,
02:38and for added incentive, it includes an online leaderboard
02:41to see how you stack up against fellow agents.
02:43Completing a TAC Sim will reward you with XP that can be spent on gadget upgrades,
02:48outfits, and new weapons.
02:49To keep things interesting,
02:51Game Changer modifiers will task players with completing certain sub-objectives,
02:55like finding secret notes, taking on powerful enemies, and not firing any rounds.
02:59IO Interactive says that it plans to expand on TAC Sim over time,
03:03creating new post-launch content for the game.
03:06First Light has quite the stacked cast.
03:10Bond himself is played by Patrick Gibson,
03:12an Irish actor best known for roles in The Tudors, Shadow and Bone,
03:15and as a young Dexter Morgan in the prequel series Original Sin.
03:19Along his journey, Bond will encounter many familiar faces,
03:22including M, Q, and Moneypenny.
03:24John Greenway, Bond's mentor, is played by The Walking Dead's Lenny James.
03:28I suppose this is another teachable moment.
03:31And the game's villain, Borma, will be portrayed by musician and actor Lenny Kravitz.
03:36Priyanka Burford plays M,
03:38Alistair Mackenzie, aka Archie from Monarch of the Glen, is Q,
03:42and Keira Lester is Moneypenny.
03:44Rounding out the cast is Noemi Nakai, who plays the mysterious agent Mizroth.
03:48In classic Bond style, IO Interactive has created an opening title befitting the movies,
03:53which you can watch right now.
03:55Its theme, First Light, was written and performed by Lana Del Rey.
03:58Composer David Arnold also worked on the track.
04:01You'll know his works from five Bond movies,
04:03as well as Zoolander, Independence Day, and Stargate.
04:06The Bond series is known for its product placement,
04:09and First Light will be no exception.
04:10Developer IO Interactive has partnered with the likes of Aston Martin,
04:14Coca-Cola, Herman Miller Gaming,
04:16Jaguar, Range Rover Defender, Omega, and Nvidia.
