Mumbai, Maharashtra: The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), backed by Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit, has issued a non-cooperation directive against actor Ranveer Singh following his reported sudden exit from 'Don 3'. The film is being produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment, which has reportedly claimed damages of ₹45 crore, stating that the actor withdrew just three weeks before the scheduled start of filming. In an exclusive conversation with IANS, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit expressed confusion over the decision. He also commented on the issue of boycotting the actor’s shoot, stating that, as a matter of professional ethics, such last-minute exits are unacceptable. Pandit strongly criticized the decision to walk away from the film, which led FWICE to take disciplinary action in the form of a non-cooperation directive.

00:00Sir, one thing first, if a common man has to understand the entire way that is going between Farhan Akhtar's
00:08production now, I mean Farhan Akhtar and I'm facing, how will you explain this, simplest of the ways?
00:14You see, industry works in a particular fashion. The producer signs an actor, technicians, everybody. And when the confirmation is
00:24done, the producer starts investing money in the pre-production work. Depending on what is the budget of the film,
00:31the amount of money depends on that, the issuers.
00:35So here, Farhan Akhtar and Vitesh Exil assigned Anvir Singh for the film along with other technicians and other actors.
00:44And probably they said that they have signed in for three films, but we're talking about gone three years.
00:51And the entire recce started, the work started, scripting started and Anvir Singh was continuously involved. We have seen the
00:59chats, we have seen all the documents and all that.
01:03And he has finalized the locations also, he has finalized the script also, costumes, makeup, everything has been done.
01:12And the unit is supposed to leave three weeks later to shoot.
01:16Nearly 200 people are supposed to fly to somewhere abroad to shoot this film down soon.
01:21Because Dawn is a brand new shot abroad. And three weeks before the unit leaves, Ramir Singh backs out from
01:30open.
01:31And he says, I'm not doing the film. And whatever reasons, we are not getting into it.
01:39So after that, a lot of producers independently, actors, technicians, they sat together and they tried to have a meeting
01:48with him.
01:48And he is attending their meeting. For nothing transparent. So Farhan, Akhtar, Amritesh, they find a company in Iftada, my
01:59assistant director, where I am the president.
02:01He said, it's a big loss for us and we can't take this loss. And it's a wrong trend.
02:08So we took the entire company, we understood everything and we, as a natural justice, we invited Sanvir for the
02:18meeting to hear the other side.
02:19Because you cannot come to a conclusion by listening to only one side.
02:24He didn't respond. We sent him three reminders and we didn't get any response.
02:29So finally we took a call, there is something else to be done about it.
02:33So we called a press conference. We announced a press conference.
02:38And then as soon as the press conference went viral, we got a mail from him and where he said
02:45that this entire dispute doesn't fall in your domain.
02:52Federation's domain. Federation's domain. So we, I'm not really keen on following up with this case with you.
03:00So he was very clear about this. And he has a right to do that. He's a democratic country.
03:05So we sat together here in office where he sat together and discussed with other crafts and all that.
03:10We decided to issue a non-cooperation against it.
03:13Non-cooperation means that any of our member belonging to 38 crafts, which is in lakhs and thousands,
03:21will not work in any office project, whichever project, whether it's ads, whether it is feature film, whether it is,
03:27whatever.
03:28Our worker, our technicians will not, will not, will not go there and work.
03:34Till the time this, this entire issue is not sorted or solved.
03:40And we also have appealed to the producer bodies to get into this because it's their issue also.
03:45And take this thing forward.
03:48So, jointly, Federation, producer bodies, Danbir ji, Farhan and this thing, have to sit together and come to a conclusion.
03:58Because the fear is that if this goes unsolved, industry is doomed.
04:03Because tomorrow a top director might walk out last time, a top cameraman can walk out, a top producer might
04:09walk out, a top actor might walk out.
04:13So trust factor will be totally off.
04:17The entire industry works on trust factor.
04:20It's a very emotional bonding with which the industry works and functions.
04:24So this is a very dangerous trend and dangerous area which one is getting into.
04:31So hopefully we will see now that we have come forward and we are playing front foot.
04:38So I am sure industry will get together and see to where this problem will be solved.
04:41Sir, the entire signing that Farhan Akhtar signed and back up, what was the difference between this period?
04:51And what year did he sign for, Ranbir Singh and back up in the year and what year?
04:57It's been done for a month before.
04:58It's been done for a month before.
04:59It's been done for three weeks before, when he was going to shoot for the unit.
05:04Understand?
05:06The unit was supposed to leave for the shoot abroad.
05:10It's been done for three weeks before.
05:11He had to do everything.
05:14So he stopped.
05:17He stopped.
05:18He stopped.
05:18He stopped.
05:19He had to cancel all the time.
05:21He had to book a hotel, tickets,
05:23200 or 200 people.
05:25He had to do costumes,
05:26We had to do scripts,
05:27We had to sign them.
05:28And our technicians,
05:29they had to date someone.
05:31They had to be cameraman,
05:32art director,
05:34make-up,
05:35costume,
05:35dance director.
05:36The entire technicians have lost their job.
05:39That's why we are here.
05:40You have taken away the work of also technicians,
05:45who were signed by this film,
05:46who were part of this film.
05:48So this is not done.
05:49Sir, was there something written in that clause?
05:53Because when the clause is made,
05:55there are so many things written in that.
05:58Wait, wait.
05:58It's going to happen.
05:59There is a corporate company here.
06:00It's basic.
06:02It's basic, right?
06:04I'm telling you to leave the paper.
06:06As a moral duty,
06:08you can't do this.
06:09As a moral duty.
06:11You are part of the industry.
06:13You are not an outsider.
06:16And especially,
06:19taking into consideration
06:21those people who are stalwarts.
06:32Farhan Akhtar has been interacting with you.
06:34And you are not a complaint.
06:36That's the only thing.
06:37It's the only thing.
06:38It's the only thing.
06:39It's the only thing.
06:40It's the only thing.
06:41It's the only thing.
06:41Wait for it to come.
06:43I hope that the company has been a lot of questions.
06:46So,
06:46it will tell us a little bit.
06:48It's the only thing.
06:49We keep our own issues.
06:52We keep our own parameters.
06:54We keep our own parameters.
06:55We don't have to worry about it.
06:56We don't have to worry about it.
06:57It's officially a complaint.
06:57We have to react.
06:58So,
06:59Do you think that
07:00what you have called the non-cooperation movement
07:04What do you expect from the industry?
07:07Because Ranveer Singh has already signed new projects.
07:10He will not be able to shoot.
07:12We will not go to the shooting.
07:14We will not go to the vanity.
07:15We will not go to the technician.
07:15We will not go to the camera.
07:16We will not go to the equipment.
07:19We will not go to the set.
07:22We will not go to the set.
07:22We will not go to the shooting.
07:24That's also an important part of the industry.
07:29There is a force of nearly 38 crafts
07:31which work on the ground.
07:33So, obviously,
07:35very very remarkable
07:36that technicians who are there so less
07:39they have come together
07:40and taken a call against the biggest superstar
07:42who is Ranveer Singh currently.
07:43It's not against him.
07:44It's against a cause.
07:46We are standing by a cause.
07:47We don't want wrong things to start as a trail.
07:49Because if it starts, it continues.
07:51One person is successful in this.
07:53Then you cannot stop anyone.
07:54Has it happened before?
07:56Where is some star?
07:57Or like in the industry?
07:58In the industry?
07:59Back out is not like that.
08:00In the last moment,
08:01three weeks before you are going
08:02and the producer-director
08:03can be released.
08:04But the actor who is released
08:07in the last moment,
08:07it doesn't exist.
08:09It doesn't exist.
08:10It doesn't exist.
08:11It doesn't exist.
08:11It doesn't exist.
08:11It doesn't exist.
08:23It doesn't exist.
08:24It doesn't exist.
08:26It doesn't exist.
08:26There are three people here.
08:27They are not ordinary people.
08:31Nobody will take moments.
08:32Because the person who is talking about
08:34it will not be sure how it will be.
08:37That's also a part of industry.
08:39It will be the most part of it.
08:40What will happen in the last moment?
08:43Today it will happen.
08:45Tomorrow it will happen as well.
08:46Tomorrow it will happen as well.
08:48Tomorrow it will happen as well.
08:49This entire trend is wrong.
08:51But there are a few cases also, sir, last year.
08:55When producers, when they postpone the shoot...
09:00Postponement is something different.
09:02Anandhi, a tuffan, a bimarer.
09:04Postponement is something different.
09:05Nobody withdraws.
09:07It's a withdrawal.
09:09Postponement is not an issue.
09:11It's a withdrawal.
09:12In this instance, the producer did not sell a film,
09:14or sign a film after that case?
09:16That's a different issue.
09:18You're mixing up the shoes.
09:20So, we're in an issue.
