He also spoke about his feelings when the film was pulled down from the OTT platform so soon after its release. The actor expressed his hope that Indian audiences get a chance to watch the film again. He further shared his views on the challenges of making movies based on political, historical, or sensitive issues in today’s times. 00:00Hello, sir. Welcome to INS.
00:06What was your favorite character in this character?
00:16First of all, I was doing a ruthless person.
00:22I did it one time, but that wasn't as ruthless or whatever.
00:26And it was interesting when I was told that I'd be doing a certain person.
00:34Of course, we don't name him in the film.
00:36And I don't want to name him also.
00:40So it seemed the whole setup seemed nice.
00:43So when the director said that this is a real story,
00:48and it has never been mentioned,
00:51I thought I should be part of it.
00:54A story being told, which is true and has never been mentioned.
00:59It's part of our history.
01:01And so that's why I got interested.
01:06Sir, this film is inspired by real events.
01:09And how do you feel like an actor's responsibility?
01:13What do you feel like an actor's responsibility?
01:16I've done a lot of work on this.
01:19Because when I was signed for it,
01:25so I was told that this is based on a certain officer in Punjab.
01:32So I searched the whole net and I read a lot about him.
01:41I saw his speeches, I saw everything.
01:43And from my side, I was ready to even play him.
01:50But I was asked not to, you know, kind of try and do him.
01:58Do your stuff.
01:59But then probably the makeup is such that I do look like him.
02:07I guess all Sardar's look like.
02:10It's the same.
02:11Sir, when the film was released,
02:13just in 48 hours, he was removed.
02:18So what was your first reaction?
02:21No, I was shocked.
02:22Because,
02:23it was like,
02:25two or three years old,
02:27the case was running.
02:29And I really admire my director and the producer,
02:32both,
02:33Honey Ji or Ronnie,
02:37Mr Ronnie,
02:38that they stuck to their guns
02:41and they never succumbed to the pressure,
02:48outside pressure.
02:49And when he said that,
02:52let's give you 127 cuts
02:54and you can send it to Canada,
02:56all of a sudden,
02:57it was pulled back from Canada Film Festival.
03:00So,
03:00this has been happening with the film for a long time.
03:04And eventually,
03:05when they told them,
03:07let's go,
03:08let's release it.
03:10What are you afraid of?
03:13What backlash?
03:15What backlash will happen?
03:16Time heals a lot of wounds.
03:18And then,
03:19you can only talk about it.
03:21You can talk about it.
03:23You can talk about it.
03:24You can't retaliate it.
03:25you don't have to retaliate it.
03:26After that,
03:27you've made a list of Hitler.
03:28the Schindler list made a little bit.
03:30It was a little bit of a reaction.
03:32It was a backlash.
03:33No,
03:35you see it.
03:35Watch it.
03:36Like any other history film,
03:41historical film.
03:42You can talk about it.
03:49You can talk about it.
04:15You can talk about it.
04:18You can talk about it.
04:19But the one thing,
04:19you think you're watching it.
04:19If you've read the book,
04:21you're watching it.
04:22And then,
04:27you've got to be a writer.
04:32You're watching it.
04:36You're watching it.
04:39It's like writing a book.
04:42Because when these people have made it, we have made it, I have been part of it, everybody, each person
04:49in that film, right from spot boy to the director, has worked hard on that film.
04:57And we all wish, hope and pray that it sees the light of the day.
05:02Sir, I feel like making a sensitive, historical, political, and political film is so challenging, especially in today's period.
05:11Because people are starting to analyze everything.
05:15I don't know why we do this.
05:17I say that before you make a film, you have to approve a little bit, once you have approved, and
05:27we start making it, nobody is going to interfere.
05:30If you think that the film is so challenging, you have to approve the time, you have to approve the
05:35time, you have to approve the time.
05:37And then you say, no, you take it.
05:40That's a wrong thing.
05:41Do you think that it is difficult or uncomfortable conversation, is there a medium that can be done?
05:49Yes, it can be done, but I always say that the violent reaction is not getting the same.
05:57we are always
06:01on the way
06:02we are
06:04against the love
06:05and the love
06:05and the love
06:05is that
06:09where are
06:10not
06:10in the world
06:11and that
06:14we have to talk
06:15so it will be
06:16but
06:16is that
06:17you can do
06:18the film
06:18that
06:18how do you
06:20have to talk
06:23about
06:23the film
06:24didn't
06:24you
06:24didn't
06:24you
06:24know
06:25what
06:25part
06:26is
06:27Sir, do you think about actors' controversy, or do you think about our characters' controversy?
06:35Controversy doesn't come to mind before.
06:37We hear a story, we hear a character, and we start working on it.
06:43Now I'm thinking, what is the reaction of this film?
06:46That is not my problem.
06:48My thing is to work hard and bring the truth as an actor on screen.
06:57What do you think about actors and people?
07:00What do you want to say to them?
07:02You want to see them, but they don't see them removed.
07:06No, no.
07:08Look, these people have removed them.
07:11The first ones who want to see them, they will also see them.
07:14Because the curiosity has been ignited.
07:20Everybody wants to see them.
07:50We're a lot of people watching
08:20Exactly.
08:21How to watch it?
08:23I didn't know.
08:24Now it will come, so let's see.
08:26But he says,
08:28he's watching, he's watching, he's watching.
08:29I said, he doesn't know me.
08:32Sir, some actors have been doing a film,
08:34especially your work,
08:35Shri Ranjan Ji.
08:37And some actors have been doing a film.
08:39So what do you say to them?
08:40Shri Ji Ranjan, I was quite surprised.
08:44Their phone came to me.
08:45How do you know?
08:46Sir, they also put on social media.
08:49Oh, oh.
08:53Thank you, Shashi.
08:56Yes, his phone has been quite surprised.
08:58And then his phone has been on social media.
09:02So he started speaking in Punjabi.
09:06He started speaking in Punjabi.
09:06Because he's very bad.
09:08He's saying he's very bad.
09:09But I think I'm going to do it.
09:12I think I'm going to do it.
09:13Like Meir was the God of Sokhan.
09:16So this is God of acting.
09:18He's very bad.
09:19And I think I'm going to do it.
09:19So it's God of acting.
09:21And that's what I think I'm going to do.
09:22And that's what I think I'm going to do.
09:23And that's what I think I'm going to do.
09:25I'll see you next time.
