Mumbai, Maharashtra: In a recent interaction with IANS, the cast of the dark comedy-thriller 'Candy and the Pizza Ggirl', actors Ninad Kamat and Dara Sandhu, along with actress Shivani Singh shared insights into their experience working on the film. They described the project as a rare venture into the dark comedy genre, noting that such films are still relatively uncommon in the industry. The actors also drew comparisons between their film and the 1983 cult classic 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro', citing similarities in tone and satirical storytelling. During the conversation, they discussed the growing influence of social media-driven casting and how it is reshaping opportunities for actors today. 00:00Welcome to INS
00:02Thank you
00:04Shimani, what is your role for this film?
00:10My role is Candy and she is an influencer.
00:16So my role is Candy who is obsessed with Candy.
00:19Like people are serial cigarette smokers
00:23They eat cereal lollipop when they are stressed.
00:26The whole movie is stressed.
00:28And her birthday is very bad with her.
00:31And her birthday is distressed.
00:35And everybody is chasing her.
00:39And she lands in the worst possible chaos.
00:43So I really feel for her.
00:46And she is a really fun character to play.
00:50What was the reason for her character?
00:52What was the reason?
00:53The movie was very exciting.
00:58I had auditioned.
00:59I was very excited for the script.
01:02The director has narrated the whole movie.
01:05It was very good.
01:08I had so much fun hearing the script.
01:11It was so different, so fun.
01:13And I wanted to just be part of it with everybody.
01:17It's such a fun project to be a part of.
01:19I feel I am really lucky.
01:26What was the reason for the movie?
01:30My character's name is Mickey.
01:32He is a struggling actor.
01:34Basically, to succeed as an actor,
01:37he can do anything.
01:37He does a lot of things in the film.
01:39So for me, the reason for the movie was that the script was very different.
01:46The script was obviously different.
01:48The script was different.
01:49But when you read the script for 3 or 4 times,
01:53you were able to read the script.
01:53But if you feel that you are very hard,
01:58you didn't have to learn anything before it.
01:59To actually act and make it,
02:02it was almost like a privilege and a lot of fun.
02:06And as I said before,
02:07as an actor, it gives you a lot of range.
02:09You can do a lot of things.
02:11It's a very exciting thing.
02:14For an actor,
02:14you can try to show different colors.
02:20Yes, it's a dark comedy.
02:23We haven't explored this genre in India.
02:25I have worked in the UK and Canada.
02:28Where such films are often made.
02:30So it's an Indian film,
02:32which will come for Indian audiences.
02:34It was a very exciting project to be a part of.
02:42As an actor,
02:44how do you think about humor and discomfort?
02:49I personally had a discomfort that
02:52the character does drugs,
02:54which I am completely against in real life.
02:57So,
02:58I had a little discomfort
03:00but it was necessary for the character to do it.
03:03And such characters
03:04there are a lot of factors in that
03:06in the strata of society,
03:07which, you know,
03:08as a god,
03:09as a party,
03:10every night,
03:11a different party,
03:11the character.
03:14So,
03:15I had a lot of discomfort
03:16on the entertainment
03:18that this character
03:20is necessary
03:21and that
03:22the audience
03:24will do it.
03:27And finally,
03:29the psychological depth
04:00is not
04:00I think
04:00we have
04:00to make a
04:00dark comedy
