It resembles many contemporary reformist movements globally: progressive in rhetoric, socially conscious, and technocratically ambitious, but unwilling to confront capitalist ownership, racialised governance, and entrenched class domination directly.

00:00Is Bersama offering Malaysians a real third force?
00:04Or just a cleaner version of the same old politics?
00:07Pati Bersama Malaysia's 12-point programme speaks to real public anger
00:12over stagnant wages, rising living costs, declining public services and widening inequality.
00:19It promises universal childcare, better public healthcare,
00:23affordable housing, wage growth and institutional reform.
00:26However, for former MP Kua Kya Soong,
00:31the real question is whether Bersama is truly different from Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.
00:37Kua said Bersama treats Malaysia's problems mainly as issues of corruption,
00:42governance and poor policy implementation.
00:45But he argued the deeper problem is structural,
00:49rooted in an economic system that concentrates wealth upward while wages stagnate
00:54and essential needs become increasingly commodified.
00:58The former Swarerat Yat Malaysia director said,
01:01Bersama criticises corruption, rent-seeking and Alibaba arrangements,
01:07but stops short of confronting concentrated wealth,
01:10monopolistic power and elite domination of the economy.
01:14Another major question Kua highlighted is whether Bersama is prepared to move beyond race-based affirmative action
01:22towards a class-based framework centred on poverty,
01:26regional inequality and universal social rights, regardless of ethnicity.
01:31Kua added a genuine third force for direct resources based on social need,
01:37helping the B40, working-class families, rural poor,
01:41orang-asli communities, Sabah and Srawa,
01:43and vulnerable nations of every background.
01:46At the same time, he questioned how Bersama will fund its promises on childcare,
01:52healthcare, housing and welfare.
01:54According to Kua, serious reform requires stronger units,
01:59worker participation, progressive taxation and wealth redistribution.
02:04He said Malaysia should tax wealth, inheritance, capital gains, luxury property and corporate elites,
02:11instead of repeatedly burdening ordinary citizens through indirect taxes and subsidy cuts.
02:18Kua also warned against turning migrant workers into scapegoats
02:22or allowing green industrialization to become another avenue for private profit accumulation.
02:29Ultimately, he argued Bersama must prove it is more than a Polish reformist party
02:34by directly confronting capitalist ownership, racialized governance and entrenched class domination.
