A2K - Episode 2
Transcript
00:14A2K is the acronym of America to Korea.
00:19Finding American talent to create a girl group through a K-pop system.
00:27Regarding the character, you're the closest to a K-pop artist.
00:32You have such a beautiful voice.
00:35All your lines are so clean and precise.
00:38You're gonna grow so fast.
00:54Hi, my name is Melissa Cadaz.
00:56I'm 17 years old and I'm from Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
00:59I think it's great to have a learning experience and I think this is a big learning experience.
01:03So I was like, yeah, it looks fun. Let's apply.
01:06Like, I'm nervous but like, I'm excited for the most part of it.
01:12Hi.
01:13Hi, Melissa.
01:14Hi.
01:15Hi, Melissa.
01:17Hello.
01:19I was more, oh my gosh. I was like, oh my God, he's real. Oh my gosh.
01:23But I was trying to keep it cool too because I know it's another shit too.
01:25So I'm like, keep it cool. I can't hang around.
01:29Oh, you have acting experience.
01:31Yeah.
01:32You like acting too?
01:33I love acting. Acting is so fun.
01:36I'm a pop singer-songwriter from Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
01:40I'm also an actress as well.
01:43Secret love, secret love, feel the rush above.
01:52Honestly, I love music because I love writing music.
01:55I love just the feeling you get with music.
01:58I love that you can inspire people with music and really show like your vulnerable side with people and share
02:03and relate to them.
02:04So I think that's why I really wanted to become something.
02:08I want to become something because of that connection that you can make with someone.
02:12I think that's so beautiful.
02:15One thing that really interested me from what you said is that you want to use your vulnerability, use that
02:22into creativity.
02:23Yeah.
02:24So tell me a little bit more about that because that's a deep thing to say.
02:35I mean, I feel like when I was little, like I went through a little bit of a hard time
02:41with my own dad.
02:42We didn't really have the greatest relationship.
02:47I don't really think he really wanted to build a relationship with me.
02:51But he hasn't been in my life for I think three years, three years now or maybe more.
02:55But I just feel like everyone has a story and I want to share my story with someone and I
03:00want to just be able to connect with them.
03:02And I know that a lot of artists I've seen that I like do connect with people through what they've
03:09went through in the past.
03:10And that's what I want to do.
03:11And I know that I have a story and I want to share that with people.
03:16The reason I'm asking is because now I have two new little girls.
03:19I kind of feel you a lot when you told me that.
03:23Don't get too nervous.
03:24All right.
03:25You don't have to be perfect.
03:27Just just.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Just sing as you want to sing.
03:30That's enough for me.
03:31Okay.
03:47I fell under your spell
03:50No one could deny
03:54Don't you ever say
03:56I just walked away
03:58I will always want you
04:01I can't live a lie
04:04Running for my life
04:06I will always want you
04:10I came in like a racquetball
04:14I came in like a racquetball
04:18Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
04:22Let me crash into a blazing wall
04:25All you ever did was wreck me
04:30I came in like a racquetball
04:33Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
04:38Let me crash into a blazing wall
04:41All you ever did was wreck me
04:46Yeah, you, you wrecked me
04:50Yeah, you, you wrecked me
04:58Okay
05:12I love your emotion
05:13I love your emotion
05:15You sing like you're talking
05:16You sing like you mean it
05:18I think that's the best part about you
05:20Yeah, thank you
05:25But it's not great
05:27It's not great
05:30One thing that I want to give you advice for
05:32Is you're wasting too much of your air
05:36You have to know how to conserve your air
05:40So you can keep on letting the air flow
05:43For a long time
05:44Instead of just bursting the air out
05:46And wasting it initially
05:48Let me crash into a blazing wall
05:52All you ever did was
05:54I want to see if it can be great
06:04Yeah, I want you to be trained for a while
06:06So we can see how far you can go
06:10I want to give you a chance
06:11Come here
06:12I want to give you a chance
06:13Come here
06:14Thank you
06:17Thank you so much
06:20All right
06:21I'll see you in LA
06:22Thank you
06:25Oh my God
06:32I'm so scared
06:33I'm so scared
06:35I'm really crying
06:46I like the person more than her skills
06:48I love her honesty
06:50It's very natural
06:51It's not afraid to show her vulnerability
06:54And that was very impressive
06:56I think that's one of the really important qualities
06:59Where K-pop artists develop a bond with their fans
07:03To just really showing who they are
07:06But still she has to
07:07She has to be trained
07:08And let's see how far she can go
07:24My name is Audrey Kate Renter
07:26I'm 14 years old
07:27And I'm from Nashville, Tennessee
07:29My name is Abby
07:30I'm 12 years old
07:31And I'm from Tampa, Florida
07:32Las Vegas
07:33My name is Sadie Rose
07:35I'm 13 years old
07:36And I'm from Louisville, Kentucky
07:37And I saw this opportunity
07:39On YouTube
07:40Through the video that was published
07:42And I decided that
07:43I should give it a try
07:44And see what comes out of it
07:46I was doing a lot of performances
07:48I was in a lot of competition
07:49Hopefully
07:50I'm hoping
07:56So here we go
08:01Good afternoon everyone
08:03We start now
08:05Finally
08:06And I'll see you next time
08:06I'll see you next time
08:20I'll see you next time
08:20I'll see you next time
08:49I'll see you next time
08:54Hello
08:56Hello
08:57Hello
08:58Hello
08:58Hello
08:58Hello
08:58Today the good part is the only final contestant left is you
09:03So I only have to see you so we can talk
09:05Yeah
09:07Please introduce yourself
09:08Hi I'm Christina Lopez Zandiford
09:11I'm 17 years old
09:12And I've been dancing since I was 3 or 4
09:15So yeah
09:16And then I've been singing like all my life
09:19What do you mean by singing all your life?
09:22As a hobby you just like to sing or were you really pursuing something?
09:26Oh it was more of a hobby
09:27Because my parents were both singers and rappers and stuff
09:30So I would hear music all the time in my house
09:34Wow I wonder how that sounds
09:39My mom actually is also a singer
09:42And she was a singer when I was like a younger
09:44And then seeing that I love to do it so much made me want to do it as well
09:50And I grew up with music and I grew up with dancing so
09:54And then recently I started getting into K-pop songs
10:00And then I started learning K-pop dances
10:04Because I like to move a lot like faster
10:07And I started teaching those to a lot of my friends
10:12And then they said that the way that I teach dance is very easy to understand
10:17And then my friends told me that I should do it more seriously
10:20And like should start opening up a website
10:23And then I opened up my little studio
10:27And I have like 20-ish maybe 20 to 30 people per class
10:33And I have a little dance team and everything
10:38I would love to always like I always want to keep learning and keep growing in my skill
10:43And so if I could yes
10:47Okay here it says you're a freshman in college
10:51A 17 year old being a freshman is not the regular speed right?
10:56Yeah
10:57So how did you end up going to school that early?
11:00So I ended up in high school I ended up taking some extra courses
11:04And then I was able to graduate a whole year early
11:06So basically you were elite in your high school
11:11Yes
11:11Yes
11:12Yes
11:12Yes
11:14Business major
11:15Yes
11:17Because I have my dance school here where I teach K-pop dance songs
11:21Hold on so
11:23You're attending a K-pop dance school to learn
11:26Like I'm the yeah I'm like the CEO
11:32Hold on so
11:33Hold on
11:33Yeah
11:33Yeah
11:35You basically opened the academy to teach K-pop dance
11:39Yes
11:40I'm like the dance teacher
11:41Hold on
11:42Are you trying to make the next JYP or something
11:44No!
11:44No!
11:45No, no, no, no, I teach JYP songs
11:47Wow
11:48Wow, I never knew I would run into a contestant that running a k-pop dance academy
11:58Will you sing for me today? What type of song? I'm singing love you like a love song by Selena
12:04Gomez great
12:07Can we have the music ready?
12:09Should I look at the camera? Should I look at you? Yeah, you can look at me while you're watching
12:14a camera is not easy though
12:15Yeah, relax. Just have fun
12:19Show me how much you love it and we'll go from there. All right
12:45So your melody will play on and on with the best of all
12:51You are beautiful
12:53Like a dream come alive
12:56Incredible
12:58A simple miracle
13:00Lyrical
13:02You take my life
13:04Again
13:06And I want you to know, baby
13:09I, I love you like a love song, baby
13:12I, I love you like a love song, baby
13:17And I keep hitting rippy-pee-pee-pee-pee-pee
13:21I, I love you like a love song
13:24I love you like a love song
13:37All right
13:38Did you ever learn how to sing, how to breathe, how to make the right
13:43Find the right route for the sounds to come out, did you ever
13:46No, I didn't
13:48You were never trained
13:48Um, my mom would like give me a bit of advice
13:51Uh-huh
13:52But um, she's not very good at explaining things
13:54So I didn't really get it, but she helped me a little bit today
13:58A lot of people develop a bad habit by wrong training
14:05Unproper training is worse than not being trained
14:10I'd rather meet a girl who wasn't trained
14:13You have absolutely no bad habit
14:16You sing with your voice
14:18You sing with your voice
14:20And that's a great place to start
14:23Thank you
14:25Okay, now your favorite part, let's
14:27Dance
14:28Let's move on to the dancing
14:29Okay
14:29Show me how you dance
14:31Let's jump
14:33Let's jump
14:36Then move on to the dance
14:53It's
14:54amazing Mediterranean
14:55Bah Woo Operating
15:00Your
15:01Welcome Com恮恧 ŠæŃ€ŠøŃŃƒŃ‚ŃŃ‚Š²
15:01And they tell me, you need to tone it down
15:05Cause you look like you're trouble
15:07So what?
15:09Don't give a damn
15:11I'm sorry I don't care, don't care, really don't care
15:16Don't be pretty charming, ain't got me for love
15:19Yeah, I'm just out of here, looking for so far
15:23From all these all over me, they say I'm young and not eat
15:27I'm sorry, I'm not just gonna blow up
15:30Don't break me down, cause I better be different
15:34I'm a little color, color, color
15:38I'm gonna change who I am for your comfort
15:41So what's up and I'll show you what I'm about
15:48Don't care what people say, I got nothing to prove
15:52I'm talking to myself, don't you let it get to you
15:56So shake me off, look up to the sky
16:00So keep on dreaming, oh
16:03Keep your dreams up, we got your back
16:07Keep your head up, take me from dreaming
16:13Don't let me know, don't get me
16:17Take a breath
16:18Take a breath
16:32Your dance is very amateur
16:35It's very amateur
16:40Your body is stiff
16:42That's why it's not allowing for it to stretch out more
16:49All your movements can be bigger
16:54You can stretch out your arm just like this
16:57Or you could do this
16:59That's how all the movements get bigger
17:02You have to loosen up your body more
17:05When and how your power is into your body
17:09Instead of having it stiff all the time
17:11Have it relaxed
17:13And then from point to point
17:15You have to find moments to allocate your power
17:19And I think
17:29But I'm not looking for professionals
17:32I'm not looking for professionals
17:35We're looking for talented kids with potential
17:38I think you'll be fine
17:41Thank you
17:41You don't have any bad habits when you sing and dance
17:46And that's really important for us
17:49And you sing like yourself
17:52And you dance like yourself
17:53Whatever you do, you look like you
17:56That's great
17:57And every time you're talking to me
17:59Singing, dancing to me
18:00You're connecting your eyes to me
18:01So I can feel your passion
18:06And that's the way I want it
18:10And when I heard today
18:12That I only had one final contestancy
18:14I was like
18:16What if I can't find any good talent in Atlanta
18:21Why did I come here?
18:24But you just made my trip worth it
18:27Thank you
18:32Come here
18:33Come here
18:38Congratulations
18:40And I think I'll see you in LA
18:42Thank you
18:42All right
18:43Good luck
18:52Oh my gosh
18:56Oh my gosh
18:57Oh my gosh
18:57I'm going to cry
18:59I'm going to cry
18:59No
19:00I'm not okay
19:03I was freaking out
19:04I was freaking out
19:05He said it was natural
19:10It's shaky
19:11I feel really good though
19:12I feel like
19:13I'm not going to have any regrets
19:15I feel like I did really good
19:17And I tried my best
19:19I gave it my all
19:20I gave it 100
19:21Maybe more than 100
19:23Thank you
19:24Thank you
19:25I'm going to cry in the car
19:28What do you think
19:29I really like her
19:32Wow
19:33This is what we need
19:35Smart, disciplined, passionate
19:37Young girls, right?
19:39The best part I love about her
19:41Is how natural she is
19:42There's nothing artificial or fake about her
19:47We got one in Atlanta
20:03So the qualities that we're looking for in this edition is
20:06Of course the potential to become great singers and dancers
20:11Is for them to be a special human being
20:20Hi, my name is Charlie Polo Dano
20:22I am 15 years old and I'm from Canada
20:24And I came from Port Credit, Mrs. Alguerle
20:26I am 17 years old and I am from Costa Rica
20:29How far is it from Costa Rica?
20:31I don't know, like a five-hour flight?
20:33Yeah
20:37There's definitely nothing like it here yet
20:40But I really, really want to be a singer
20:42I think that's my biggest opening
20:45I'm ready
20:46I'm excited
20:46Yeah
20:47I just knew that this is for me
20:51Okay, here we go, New York
21:00Hello
21:00Hi, how are you?
21:02Pleasing to introduce yourself
21:03Oh, hi, my name is Savannah Collins
21:05I'm 16 years old
21:06And yeah, I'm from Fort Lauderdale, Florida
21:09I mean, obviously you have a great smile
21:11Thank you
21:12I appreciate that
21:13I'm pretty sure you heard that a lot
21:14Yeah
21:16Okay, so
21:19You were trained to be a gymnast?
21:22Yeah
21:25I've been like a gymnast and a dancer
21:27Like all my life
21:30Like I did gymnastics competitively for like seven years
21:39But then I had to stop recently because of an elbow injury
21:43I recovered from my injury still
21:45But I kind of lost some strength from it
21:48Gymnastics-wise
21:51And then I was like, okay
21:52It took me a really long time to figure out
21:56But that like kind of led me to focus on like other things that I've always been interested in
22:00Like then when I started getting some more into like dancing and like K-pop and stuff
22:04So yeah, that's when I would say I went more to it
22:07And like learning the dances definitely was like, I like that
22:13How much discipline is it required to become a gymnast?
22:16A lot
22:16A lot
22:17A lot of discipline because
22:18I know there are days that you do not want to go to practice
22:23Like it's every day
22:24And like it's long hours
22:27And a lot of the time you want to quit
22:29Like I've had a lot of experiences like that
22:32So it takes a lot of discipline to like really ground yourself
22:35Also when it comes to just, you know, shoot it for what you really want
22:39So
22:39Wow
22:40I mean, it definitely helps in K-pop
22:43Because, you know, we do all those energetic performances on stage
22:47So
22:47Yeah
22:48To warm yourself up
22:50Could you show us a little bit of your gymnastic moves if you can?
22:53Yes, of course
22:54Yes
23:10Okay, that's for real
23:11Thank you
23:13That's
23:14Okay
23:15That's
23:17The genre of K-pop, the stage performance is so important
23:21So to have a member like you who can do high difficulty acrobatic moves
23:26It's such a big help
23:29Yeah
23:29To the group
23:30I agree
23:32Okay, now
23:34Dancing
23:35Yes, my specialty
23:37All right
23:38All right
24:07Cause you look like you're trouble
24:09So what do you do?
24:11Don't give a damn
24:12I'm sorry I don't care, don't care, really don't care
24:17Don't break me down
24:19Go down, there'll be different
24:20I'm a little
24:22Tala, tala, tala
24:25How can I change you?
24:27I am for your comfort
24:28So what's your heart?
24:30Show you what I'm about
24:34I love myself
24:36Cause I'm so Tala, Tala
24:39Yeah
24:39Yeah, I'm so Tala, Tala
24:55You look good and you look bad
24:58And then you look good and you look bad
25:02The moves that you are comfortable with
25:05You do it so well
25:06And then when you're not sure about the moves
25:09Then you suddenly become such a bad dancer
25:12You know what I'm saying
25:26You look less prepared than other contestants
25:28You look less prepared than other contestants
25:47Here it says you love to rap
25:49So can you show us a little bit of your rapping?
26:02Return to the MAC
26:03Get up what it is
26:04What it does
26:04What it is
26:04What it isn't
26:05Return to the MAC
26:06Get up what it is
26:06What it does
26:07What it is
26:07What it isn't
26:08Looking for a better way
26:08Get up what it is
26:09Get up what it is
26:09Get up what it is
26:10Get up what it is
26:10Get up what it is
26:10Get up what it is
26:11Fresh out
26:11Pimp stroke walking
26:12Little bit of humble
26:13Little bit of cautious
26:14Somewhere between like Rocky and Cosby
26:15Sweater game
26:16Nope, nope
26:16Y'all can't copy us
26:17Bad moonwalking
26:19This here is our party
26:20My passe's been on Broadway
26:22And we did it
26:23Our way
26:24Grown music
26:24I shed my skin
26:25And put my bones
26:26Into everything
26:27I record to it
26:28And yet I'm on
26:29Let that stage light
26:31Go and shine on down
26:32Labels out here
26:33Now they can't tell me nothing
26:35We give that to the people
26:37Spread it across the country
26:39Whoa
26:41Whoa
26:44That was nice
26:45I love it
26:46You got great sense of rhythm
26:49You rap like you mean it
26:50Thank you
26:51And actually my favorite takeaway from your rap was that
26:57You don't try to sound too hip-hop
27:00Yeah
27:01You just rap with your own voice
27:05Okay
27:08Okay
27:15I'm gonna give you another chance
27:17To show me how well you can prepare yourself

27:33In LA
27:33Thank you
27:35Don't let me down
27:37Okay
27:47She has this bright energy, right?
27:51That's so important
27:52Critical in K-pop
27:54That if I don't select
27:55I feel like I'll be
27:57Keep thinking about it
27:58So
28:03Very, very proud of you
28:08See you guys in LA
28:20I think I'm really good at singing
28:23That's like my confident area
28:25And also because I'm younger
28:26I'm cuter than them
28:31Okay, next contestant please
28:37Hello
28:39Hello
28:40Hello
28:47I'm 12-year-old Kaylee Lee
28:48I am born in the United States
28:51And I've been living in the US
28:52But I can speak both Korean
28:54And English fluently
28:57One of the guys in my French class
28:59Wore Taekwondo
29:00So, now we're starting
29:02How do you feel?
29:03I'm proud of you
29:04I'm proud of you
29:05I'm proud of you
29:05I'm proud of you
29:06I'm proud of you
29:08That's gonna really be a merit
29:10If you're gonna become
29:11A K-pop artist, right?
29:13So, were you trained
29:15In vocals or dancing?
29:16With vocals, I think I started training
29:19With the teacher like last week
29:22With the teacher like last week
29:24Last week?
29:25Yeah
29:26You learned for a week
29:28Yeah, I'm self-taught
29:30Mostly watching videos
29:34What are you gonna sing for us today?
29:36I'm singing Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus
29:38That's a tough song to sing
29:40Yes
29:40Okay
29:43Alright, tell us when you're ready
30:00We clawed, we chained our hearts
30:04In vain we jumped
30:06Never asking why
30:09Where he kissed
30:10I fell under your spell
30:13Love
30:14No one could deny
30:17Don't you ever say
30:20I just walked away
30:22I will always want you
30:24I can't live a lie
30:28Running for my life
30:30I will always want you
30:34I came in like a wrecking ball
30:38Came in like a wrecking ball
30:41I never felt so hard in love
30:45All I wanted was to break your world
30:49All you ever did was
30:52Wreck me
30:54Yeah, you
30:56You wrecked me
31:01Thank you
31:02Oh, that's it?
31:03Mm-hmm
31:09I can do more
31:10But I want to stop there
31:11Oh, why?
31:12Why did you want to stop there?
31:14Um, usually at auditions
31:15I only do up to the first chorus
31:18So
31:19I was planning to let you sing more
31:21Really?
31:22Yeah
31:22I don't know
31:25You still show me enough
31:37You never raised your chest
31:40When you're inhaling
31:48That's very rare
31:49That's very rare
31:52Even professional singers
31:53Forget it when they sing
31:58So
31:58You learned how to breathe
32:00A week ago?
32:02Um
32:02I mean
32:02I kind of learned by myself
32:07This is for breathing
32:08When you're talking
32:08And this is for breathing
32:09When you're singing
32:11That's
32:13So
32:15You trained yourself
32:17To breathe like that
32:18When you sing
32:18Yeah
32:19That's why you have extra weight
32:21On your voice
32:22When you sing
32:23Mm-hmm
32:24That's what impressed me a lot
32:27Thank you
32:28On YouTube or
32:29Um
32:29I think just hearing other people sing
32:32I kind of tried both ways
32:34Depending on how I feel
32:36And better
32:38You are a very smart girl
32:41Thank you
32:43I think
32:44I think the way you breathe
32:45The most closest to perfect
32:48Among all the contestants
32:50That I've seen
32:51Till now
32:52Thank you
32:58Okay
32:59Dancing
33:00I'm doing
33:01Dalla Dalla
33:02By Itzy
33:03Okay
33:03And I only learned this
33:05A few days ago
33:06When it appeared on the list
33:08So
33:08I'm not really confident
33:10With it yet
33:11But
33:11Yeah
33:13Kelly
33:14You don't have to be
33:15All I'm looking for
33:17Is potential
33:18Mm-hmm
33:35Thank you
33:36People look at me
33:39And they tell me
33:40You need to tone it down
33:43Cause you look like you're trouble
33:45So what?
33:46I don't give a damn
33:48I'm sorry, I don't care, don't care, really don't care
33:54Don't be pretty charming, ain't got no for love
33:57Our home is all over me, they say I'm young and I ain't
34:02I'm never gonna blow up
34:04Don't break me down, cause I better beat it down
34:08I'm a little talla, talla, talla
34:12I'm gonna take you out for your promise
34:15Don't want to learn, I'll show you what I'm about
34:21Out of myself, out of myself
34:24Cause I'm so talla, talla
34:27Both singing and dancing, you have a plan when to stop
34:33Yeah, because there's been a pattern of when the person judging tells you to stop
34:40And usually they say to stop by the first course
34:46So you did your research
34:47Yeah
34:48Okay, okay
35:00Obviously you didn't dance that much, I guess
35:02Obviously you didn't dance that much, I guess
35:06You got a pretty long way to go, especially in dancing
35:09Yeah
35:10Okay
35:14But if you practice, I think you're gonna be great at dancing
35:18I think you're gonna be great at dancing
35:23Your stature allows you to perform very well
35:27Cause we have long legs and long arms, which helps the movements look bigger
35:33You have potential in singing and dancing, but what impresses me more is your drive, your motivation
35:42I could feel your passion and I could feel your passion and also how smart you are in chasing that
35:48passion
35:51It's so nice to hear that cause I'm not confident in dancing at all
36:04Obviously you're not that good, but I think you can be great, you have the potential to be great
36:10Because you're very smart
36:13Come here
36:14Come here

36:27Thank you
36:33That's a smart girl
36:35A 12 year old, like she broke it down, she does her research, she sets up her plan and she
36:41executes
36:41She has her view on everything, like how to sing, how to dance, how to audition, it's crazy
36:53I'm ready for the world, it's the world ready for me
36:58I wanna see the world, it's the world wanna see me
37:03I'm ready for the world, it's the world ready for me
