28:45What I remember most about the Savage Flair match at WrestleMania 8 was the way the match started.
28:52All the weeks of humiliation.
28:55All the weeks of frustration.
28:58And now it's all come to a hand.
29:00The way Savage attacks Flair when the bell rings tells you as a fan,
29:06and said, OK, this is not a regular competition.
29:10This is personal.
29:12He just wants to get out there and can't Flair.
29:14But he is a man possessed.
29:17Look at this.

29:20Whether Savage was going to be able to defeat this guy who was basically trying to ruin his marriage,
29:26that's what enhanced the match.
29:29This match had been built with such personal animosity.

29:34And it's so intense that Miss Elizabeth stays back in the locker room.
29:39She's not at ringside because of how heated this rivalry is.
29:42I wonder who Elizabeth is going home with tonight.
29:45It was about Savage taking up for Liz and getting revenge on Ric Flair.
29:50That it was for the title was almost just a cherry on top.

31:30They're trying to cleave Elizabeth out of there!

31:36Ric Flair and Macho Man's championship match is kinda taking a little bit of a backseat to the story of

31:45All the guys in suits, they're trying to stop her from coming out.

33:56I couldn't imagine retiring and then coming back bigger than ever.

34:04Randy called me up and he says,
34:07here's proof, never take yourself out of the game
34:09because things can change overnight.
34:11When you know you're good
34:13and other people keep trying to tell you that you're not,
34:16I was happy for them.
34:17That gold looks great back on the waist of the Macho Man.
34:21For him to stand there once again with the belt
34:25really proved that he was who he always said he was.

34:34cast considerable doubt on an earlier series of pictures,
34:39alleged genuine pictures given to us by the former World Wrestling Federation champion Ric Flair.
34:45We later come to find out that the whole story that Ric Flair was perpetuating,
34:52that him and Elizabeth had been lovers, was a lie.
34:56And we see what the original photos looked like.
35:00Placing Flair in photos that were actual photos of Elizabeth and Randy together,
35:06taking Randy out and putting Ric in his place, I thought it was pure genius.
35:11Of course, there's got to be a reasonable explanation as to why Ric Flair has these pictures.
35:16Ric Flair, you gotta understand that when you tell these lies, you're talking about my wife.
35:25And the one thing that'll always remain the same,
35:30my World Wrestling Federation championship belt was mine before it was yours.

35:41With Macho Man being the new champion, now Ric Flair is chasing the title.
35:46It's just fascinating to see the role reversal.

36:00I think what made this different with Flair chasing the title was that Elizabeth wasn't involved.

36:06I was just curious if anyone knows, because I don't know, like, why Elizabeth was taken out of this storyline.
36:12Because it seemed like her as the focus of this feud.
36:18And then all of a sudden, she's out of the picture.
36:20I think she and Randy were going through some real life...

36:25Randy announced it in the WWE magazine, that they were getting a divorce.
36:30And it broke his heart. I don't care what anybody says.
36:33Doing a storyline that involved possible infidelities, it was hitting close to home.
36:40Liz was no longer involved when she was such a major part of him winning that championship and being involved
36:46on a major angle.
36:47It was almost to the fans, but how come she's not with you anymore?
36:51The entire reason you got there in the first place is gone.
36:55Elizabeth went home.
36:56You're not coming back, baby, but the belt is.

37:08Coming off of WrestleMania VIII, there was real life marital strife between Macho Man Randy Savage and Elizabeth.
37:14And because of that, Elizabeth was no longer really part of the onscreen presentation.
37:19But I think fans had become so invested that they wanted more.
37:25If you had the guts, I'd beat you for that belt.
37:30Randy Savage is headed right in.
37:32Yes, there he goes.
37:34He almost went over the cameraman.
37:36Randy Savage going up to Ric Flair.
37:38Covering Ric Flair.
37:39Their chemistry was off the charts, so you want to continue that.
37:45And the rivalry continues.
37:46The two wind up facing each other again.

37:53There they were, two of the biggest names in this company.
37:55And once again, the people got their money's worth.

38:04They were two of the best ever in the business.
38:07And they did not let anybody down.

39:03He just went, showed up on their TV.

39:17When Randy Savage ultimately decided to go to WCW, fans were still excited about the possibility of him wrestling Ric

39:33It was something that fans really wanted and it was something that really helped our main events at the time
39:38because we needed that.
39:39The anticipation for this match has been great.
39:43They tried to bring Elizabeth back into the fold later in WCW with them.
39:48He's got Elizabeth on his shoulder!
39:50It wasn't the same.
39:51By that point, everybody knew Savage and Elizabeth were long divorced.
39:56And it's interesting because I do think that they had good chemistry in the ring.
40:01Until they trusted each other.
40:04Storytellers, man.
40:05It's all about storytelling.
40:06They even faced each other on Baywatch, the television show which everybody watched at the time.

40:16The magnetism between them speaks to the fact that they needed each other.
40:22They invested in the rivalry in ways that helped lift each of them.

40:31Well, this was a heck of a run that Macho Man and Ric had.

40:39They're the only two that's headlined WrestleMania and Starrcade.

40:44Sometimes, you can have superstars who come together at different points in their career.
40:50But for whatever reason, the magic is just when the magic is.
40:55The timing was just right.
40:57It means Randy Savage Elizabeth was mine before she was yours!

41:07You know, Ric did his job.
41:08He became this sleazy guy, this playboy, made all these salacious comments about Miss Elizabeth.

41:20And now, like, everybody's probably watching like, well, what are you gonna do?

41:25The best time ever to defend a good, bad.

41:39Savage needed to get back to that main event spot, and Ric got him back there.

41:50And that's the kind of stuff that made me fall in love with pro wrestling.
