01:00What does it mean to you?
01:01How do you feel about the success now?
01:04I'm still trying to be living day by day.
01:09I'm actually enjoying this moment of my life.
01:12It took a while, that's for sure.
01:15But I do feel that I have a lot to...
01:20There is a lot to be done yet in terms of tennis and physically.
01:25Hopefully, the injuries are going to respect me a little bit more.
01:30But I'm just...
01:32I've got to keep working.
01:33I have a feeling that I can keep climbing on the ranking,
01:38which at the end is almost the most important thing.
01:42But also, my matureness is much better now
01:47than what it was before, given the circumstances.
01:51And also, having this matureness
01:54is giving me the chance to enjoy a little bit more
01:57than what I used to do.
02:01Congratulations on your season.
02:04There's a lot of older players
02:06that are having a lot of success lately.
02:09Sorana, Justeya, making her debut this week
02:12in the top 20.
02:13And Djokovic is still in the top 5.
02:15And he's playing tonight at age 39.
02:18Is there something in common with all of these players?
02:21How do you explain all this?
02:23I don't know.
02:24I think my case is a little bit different
02:25because I'm reaching my peak
02:28on my 30-something, 36,
02:32which I don't think is the case of the other guys.
02:36They were at their peak before.
02:39But even though the level that they are showing on court
02:43is simply unbelievable,
02:45and also we had some examples before
02:49from the women's side
02:50that they were getting back after pregnancy
02:53and stuff, which everybody knows
02:55that it's extremely hard to do that.
02:57And having those examples,
02:59also Cilic,
03:01I was sharing some tournaments with him
03:03last year when he was playing Challengers
03:06and the level of professionalism
03:10that these guys have is unbelievable.
03:12so I was just trying to copy them,
03:16the examples that I could actually get to see them,
03:20and I just put it on my favor.
03:23Also, you need to be lucky as well
03:25because then the injuries are always there
03:29and then you have to be very, very smart
03:31and choosing the calendar
03:32that you have to...
03:34on places that is on your favor.
03:39But it's a combination of things at the end.
03:42You have to be lucky once.
03:44You have to work like an animal twice a second
03:48and then also having the consistency
03:51is extremely important in this game
03:56and in this sport
03:57because it's what keeps you up.
04:00Once you start having injuries,
04:01and we can see with Draper
04:02and many other examples,
04:05then you start going up and down
04:07and it's very hard to achieve something like this.
04:13Well done.
04:14You mentioned there about the injuries.
04:15Why do you think you do seem to be peaking now?
04:18Because typically you'd expect a player
04:20to have more injuries
04:21kind of the longer they play for.
04:24Good question.
04:25At least in my case,
04:26I'm investing a lot more in physios.
04:32They are traveling with me 24-7.
04:36I really started doing it
04:39like two years ago
04:40or something like that
04:41more in a serious way.
04:45And that's one of the reasons
04:46I kept playing, basically.
04:48Because at one point
04:49I couldn't actually move.
04:51It was hard to me.
04:52It was very hard to go back to sleep
04:55during the night.
04:56It was very hard after the matches.
04:57It was very hard recovering from matches.
05:00And it was a long process.
05:03But also the way I'm working out today
05:06is completely different
05:08than something that I have done
05:09my whole career.
05:11And in terms of how much time
05:14I spend on court,
05:16how much time I spend doing fitness,
05:19and how much time I spend with the physio.
05:21Physio doesn't mean
05:22that you are laying back on the table
05:24and just getting treatment
05:26is a whole combination of things.
05:30It's the way you go to the gym
05:32instead probably of lifting weights.
05:35You're just working on very small
05:39and very specific muscles
05:41and also the joints
05:43and everything
05:44and the way that you recover
05:46and the way you focus your recovery
05:48is completely different
05:49than, at least in my case.
05:51And that's one of the reasons
05:53that I can keep playing.
05:55What was the injury, sir,
05:56when you couldn't move?
05:58Everything.
05:59Because now it's...
06:01When you get something like this
06:02you can start with hips
06:05and then you go to the foots
06:06and then you go to knees
06:08and then you go to ankles
06:09and then you go to pretty much everything.
06:10So basically it's trying to get
06:13everything more balanced
06:15and then at the end
06:18you've got to keep functioning
06:20in a way that also
06:22you've got to treat
06:23at least in my case
06:24you've got to treat the body
06:25like an old car.
06:27If the old car stops
06:30everybody knows
06:31that it's completely done.
06:33So in my case
06:34I'm just trying
06:35even when it's very painful
06:37you just try to keep
06:40moving your body
06:41as much as you could.
06:42When it's too much
06:43and then you've got to stop
06:44then you do it
06:45in a different way
06:45but you never really stop.
06:48And that's why
06:48one of the reasons
06:49that I never took vacation
06:50as well.
06:53And in terms of
06:54years ago
06:55when you called out
06:56the match fixing
06:57you've been through
06:58a lot in your career.
06:59Do you think that
07:00maybe played in a role
07:02in the late breakthrough?
07:04I mean do you feel like
07:05you've been through
07:06nine lives
07:06in your tennis career?
07:09Yeah indeed
07:10it really hurt me
07:12back then.
07:14And also
07:15I was very innocent
07:17in the sense
07:18that I was expecting
07:19that the system
07:20would help me out
07:22a little bit
07:22and it was completely
07:24the opposite.
07:26And the whole package
07:28of institutions
07:29were never there
07:30and they are still
07:31not there.
07:32And we are still
07:33looking for answers
07:34we're still looking
07:35for the system
07:37to be more supportive
07:40of the players
07:41but we are too far
07:43from that.
07:44We are still
07:44very separated
07:45in terms of
07:47the governor bodies.
07:49And you see
07:50the French Federation
07:51is going by his side
07:52and then the English one
07:53is going by his side
07:55and then the Australian
07:57and then at the end
07:59ATP is also
08:00WTA is also going
08:01by the side
08:01and then you have
08:02the PTPA.
08:04So I think
08:05as the players
08:07we are still
08:08very
08:10I don't find
08:11the right word
08:12but for me
08:12it is very stupid
08:13what is going on
08:14right now
08:14because
08:15you've got to be able
08:17to use the channels
08:18that are available
08:20and there is
08:21a lawsuit going on
08:22and somehow
08:23we as the players
08:25I mean
08:26I'm not putting
08:28myself in there
08:28but somehow
08:30the letter
08:32that was written
08:33I have no idea
08:34what it is
08:34inside
08:36which for me
08:37is very unfortunate
08:38because at the end
08:39we are just
08:40very few players
08:42we are not
08:43a thousand
08:43or two thousand
08:45or a hundred thousand
08:45we're just a few ones
08:47and I think
08:49would be
08:50much more
08:50better
08:52on how
08:53the institutions
08:54are seeing us
08:55in the sense
08:55that if you
08:56all work together
08:58it's much more
08:58easier
08:59at the end
08:59to achieve things
09:00if we keep
09:01doing these kind
09:02of things
09:03at the end
09:04it's going to be
09:05exactly the same
09:06shit as always
09:08just a follow up
09:10to that one
09:11how's your relationship
09:12with Argentinians
09:13like
09:14in your home country
09:16other players
09:16you had some
09:18tough times
09:18yeah
09:19some humans
09:21are still there
09:23I'm pretty sure
09:24not so many people
09:26like me
09:26but
09:27comparison to
09:28what I was thinking
09:29I mean
09:30like 10 years ago
09:32I don't care
09:33right now
09:34I have a good
09:35relationship
09:36with the people
09:37that really wants
09:38to come
09:38and they say
09:38hi how are you
09:40and that's it
09:40because at the end
09:41the relationship
09:41in tennis
09:42is more that
09:43than any other thing
09:44you're not going
09:45to become friends
09:46with someone
09:47that maybe
09:48next day
09:48you're going
09:49to be facing
09:51but that's the
09:52atmosphere
09:53that we live
09:54on tennis
09:54and
09:56yeah
09:57nowadays
09:57it's okay
09:58I'm not choosing
09:59to go back
10:00I'm not going
10:01to go back
10:02for sure
10:02because the place
10:03that I chose
10:03now
10:05since the last
10:0510 years
10:06I've been living
10:07in Andorra
10:07it's amazing
10:08for me and my wife
10:09and we feel
10:10very safe there
10:11the quality of life
10:13is amazing
10:14and Argentina
10:15and Argentina
10:16right now
10:16is having
10:17a hard time
10:19but that's it
10:20I don't know
10:21back then
10:22like 10 years ago
10:23I was very afraid
10:24to go back
10:25and for a certain period
10:27I wasn't able
10:27to go back
10:28because I was
10:29very afraid
10:30and also
10:31the sensations
10:32the feelings
10:32that I had
10:33when I went back
10:35and tried to play
10:35the tournaments
10:36it wasn't great
10:38maybe
10:38maybe in the future
10:40I don't know
10:40it depends on
10:42on how
10:43let's say
10:44brave
10:44I am
10:45to go back
10:46but
10:47but it's a long story
10:48I don't want to
10:50put myself
10:51in a box
10:52and say
10:52no no
10:53I would never go back
10:54because everybody
10:55is a bad human
10:57there
10:57no no
10:57it's not
10:58it's not the right thing
10:59and there's a lot of
11:00good human beings
11:02in Argentina
11:02and I got
11:03also a lot of
11:05love
11:05but
11:06but at the end
11:08let's say
11:08the wrong guys
11:09were the one
11:10that they were
11:11more louder
11:11than the good ones
11:13and also
11:15because before
11:16I was feeling
11:16more like a victim
11:18then I was more
11:19focused on that
11:20side of my life
11:21let's say
11:22and it was hard
11:23to move away
11:24from that
11:24and at the end
11:26after a few years
11:27I moved on
11:32I played
11:34I think it was
11:35last year
11:36in Rosario
11:37the Challenger
11:37and also
11:38I played
11:38in Buenos Aires
11:40but when I went
11:41back to Buenos Aires
11:42it was tough
11:42because it was also
11:46the last tournament
11:47that I played there
11:48before
11:49before everything
11:50went public
11:51and I couldn't
11:53manage the feelings
11:53it was too much
11:54for me
11:54back then
11:56I thought
11:57I was prepared
11:58but I wasn't
11:59so maybe
11:59next year
12:00maybe
12:01maybe I'm not
12:02prepared at all
12:02to go back
12:03and play there
12:04but we'll see
12:05lately
12:05I played
12:06Davis Cup
12:06for Argentina
12:07and I felt
12:08amazing
12:09and
12:09but it's still
12:11I still feel
12:12like I have a spine
12:13in my
12:13in my heart
12:15and it's going
12:15to be there forever
12:16it's just
12:16simple as that
12:17you
