00:33Hi, Naomi. Well done on the whole tournament.
00:35I'm just curious from the whole clay court season,
00:38do you consider it overall a success for you for where you're at this season
00:42and just for your standards?
00:48Yeah, I mean, honestly, I don't really look at the result too much anymore.
00:55Like, I feel as long as I wake up every day and hit the ball
01:00and think I'm improving, that itself is a win.
01:03And obviously sometimes in the season there's, like, dips, highs, and lows.
01:09But I think getting the furthest that I got so far in rolling girls
01:15should hopefully be a positive result for me.
01:20Naomi, as you said, this is your deepest run here in your career so far
01:24and you also had probably the number one who played
01:28and hadn't beaten the last couple times this year.
01:30Did any of those things give you sort of a sense of freedom or looseness
01:34to go out there and swing free tonight?
01:36Because I think especially at the start you looked very loose in a good way.
01:42Honestly, I don't feel like I can play her loose.
01:45Like, it's a really hard feeling to describe whenever I play her,
01:51but it's so unlike anyone else on the tour.
01:54Like, I could be loose, but I feel like I play with percentages in my head
01:59and it's just so, I don't want to say it backfires,
02:03but it doesn't matter.
02:05The percentages don't matter.
02:08I don't know, Naomi, you played arena many years ago at the US Open
02:12and you've played all the greats of this generation.
02:17The drop shot that she's developed in the last couple of years
02:21seemed like a factor in the match to date.
02:24Have you come across anything quite like that before?
02:28I've got the worst memory in the world.
02:30You're going to have to ask someone else that played everyone.
02:34Have I played some?
02:36I mean, all of the people I've played this tournament have hit drop shots.
02:39Obviously, she's the hardest hitting one.
02:42So, like, when she hits a drop shot, it works better, I think,
02:47because she obviously could hit a winner too if she wanted to.
02:51But have I ever seen anything like it?
02:55My hitter hits drop shots too.
03:01You know what, though?
03:03Like, for me, back in the old days, I really liked playing against Barty
03:09because everything she did was so fluid,
03:11and I feel like she hit a lot of really good drop shots and slices too.
03:17Hey, Naomi.
03:18Nice tournament.
03:19Tough one tonight.
03:20Could you elaborate what you just said about you play with percentages in your head?
03:23I have a vague idea of what you mean, but if you wouldn't mind elaborating on that,
03:27and then is that just against Arena?
03:30Is it because she's the world number one?
03:32Is that something that's always running through your head when you play top players?
03:35If you could just speak more about that.
03:38No, I mean, I could be playing, like, the 300-ranked person.
03:41I always have percentages.
03:43I think that's just something I do.
03:48And for me, it's, like, calculations.
03:52Sometimes it helps me out a lot.
03:54Sometimes it works against my favor.
03:56But it's just, like, a constant, say the person serves a lot wide.
04:02Then in your brain, you're like, okay, now they're going to go.
04:04It's, like, 75% blah, blah, blah.
04:06You know what I mean?
04:10Well done tonight.
04:11I just wondered when you come off a match like this, I mean, she played at an unbelievable level.
04:15Are you kind of, how encouraged are you or how sort of daunted, I guess, are you at sort of
04:21closing that gap?
04:22Because presumably that's where you want to be again, number one.
04:32Sorry for laughing.
04:35You know, I kind of realized, like, I don't know if you knew me before, but, like, I would be
04:45very, very disappointed in myself after matches like these.
04:50But I kind of realized that it doesn't matter at all.
04:53Like, I've played her multiple times, and I've, sadly to say, lost multiple times.
05:02But the only thing I can keep doing is trying my best.
05:05And maybe, hopefully, it'll work out in my favor one day.
05:08But I can't let myself be discouraged every time I lose to someone or win against someone.
05:14Because, honestly, like, hitting a ball doesn't really matter in, like, on earth, kind of.
05:26In terms of Serena's comeback, she finally made that announcement today.
05:30What type of level do you think we're going to see from her?
05:33And have you had the chance to hit with her or maybe talk to anybody, you know, who did?
05:40I'm pretty sure you talked to someone that did more than I did.
05:45I don't know, like, I don't know what level to expect.
05:51I don't really know.
05:53I'm just focusing on myself, honestly.
05:55Like, I love that you're asking me these questions.
05:57But, like, there's only so much that I can answer you with about other people's levels, you know.
06:06Hi, Naomi. Congrats on the match tonight.
06:08I don't know if you know this, but it was the first women's match to be scheduled in the night
06:12session here for three years.
06:14I just wondered what your reaction was to finding out that your match was scheduled in the night session.
06:21What was the match before this one?
06:24Sabalenka-Stevens.
06:26Oh, like Salon?
06:27Yeah.
06:28I'm so sorry for that. That was a dumb question.
06:31God damn.
06:36Wow.
06:37Wow.
06:38No, I mean, for me, I thought it was really cool.
06:41Like, obviously, she's really good for tennis.
06:46I would hope, like, I'm okay for tennis, too.
06:50And I think, like, it was, honestly, it was really fun to play.
06:55The last time I remember playing, like, a semi-night match here was obviously against Iga,
07:00but I was told it wasn't the official night match.
07:03So I am honored that the tournament chose us to play in this slot,
07:09and I hope that going forward that they'll continue to do so.
07:13So do we need to do that in the next question?
07:17Hey, Naomi.
07:18Bad luck, great performance.
07:19I'm just curious on the, you saying that now you no longer, like, consider,
07:27I forgot what you said.
07:29That's okay.
07:29I forget all the time.
07:32Just the answer you said a couple of months ago about it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things,
07:38basically.
07:38I'm curious, when did that shift occur, and do you consider it, like, a positive outlook on tennis now?
07:47Yeah, I mean, I feel like I say this every couple of months,
07:51but I think I reached enlightenment, but in a healthy way for me,
07:55because, obviously, I pour so much into tennis,
07:59and, like, if I lost this match when I was younger,
08:03I'd shut myself in my room or whatever,
08:05but now I feel like, obviously, I love tennis,
08:11and I'm trying my best to do everything to be the best player I can,
08:15but I'm just, I don't know.
08:18Like, it's kind of like a clock in, clock out type of thing.
08:21I'm excited to go home and see my daughter,
08:25and, honestly, that's kind of the happiest moments of life for me.
08:31Hi, Naomi.
08:32Given it had been such a long time since there was a women's match in the night session,
08:36I just wondered, did you feel any pressure at all to kind of make it a good match?
08:43Not really.
08:43I don't really care, you know?
08:45Like, I feel like there's so many different things to put pressure,
08:50like, for me to put pressure on myself.
08:52Like, that's the last thing on my mind.
08:55Obviously, you don't want to be beaten 6-0, 6-0,
08:58but that's anywhere on any court.
09:01Like, if I was on court 27, I wouldn't want to be beaten that fast either.
09:04So, yeah, I mean, shout out the tournament for trusting us.
09:11I hope it was entertaining for people, but I, honestly, I think off of the back of the,
09:18I'm so American, calling it the soccer match, the football match,
09:23I think that they're just happy with regardless watching sports, so.
09:55Yeah, honestly, I don't know what we're doing.
09:58what's happening, but my first serve percentage has been kind of trash,
10:02like, since the beginning of the tournament.
10:05And I could get away with it with everyone else,
10:08but with her, it's like, obviously, you feel more pressure
10:13because her presence is very known on the line.
10:18And that's where I feel like I could have done better,
10:20but also, like, when I think of the percentages in my head,
10:24even if I lowered my speed to put the ball in,
10:28obviously, she's still gonna, like, try to crack it,
10:30so I figured I'd have a better chance, like, going for my first serve anyways,
10:35and at least I'd kind of go out on my own terms.
10:55Yeah, I mean, obviously, it's my best result here.
10:58I would have loved to go further, but I don't know.
11:02I feel like I have to take the positives from it.
11:04I played three really good matches.
11:06The last match I played against Jovic was maybe the longest match I've played this year,
11:11and I felt physically fine coming into this match,
11:15so I'm pretty pumped about that.
11:18Leaving here and then going to grass,
11:21I'm not very excited.
11:23I'm not very excited about that
11:25because I feel like I was just getting my footing on clay, kind of,
11:30towards the end of the French Open.
11:31But, yeah, I mean, a huge part of me is happy to leave here with a smile,
11:39knowing that I potentially have a chance to learn more about grass,
11:43and I'm thankful for all of the spectacular memories I've made.
