08:55and Dale Andrews are in pursuit of a speeder in a stolen car. He's doing 200
09:01kilometres per hour, five minutes before school's out for the day. This driver
09:07needs to be taken off the road.
09:09Copy, just catching up now. Bendigo 652 is police forward commander and that's 626
09:15take over and initiate a pursuit for me please. We have a dangerous vehicle
09:20heading into a 40k zone. Bendigo 626 taking over, in pursuit.
09:28Slow down, get it.
09:30Inbound.
09:34Yeah.
09:40Get ready.
09:43Bop, bop, bop, bop, bop.
09:51Get on the ground.
09:58I find this ridiculous.
10:00Oh, you find this ridiculous.
10:01Yes.
10:01I thought you called me something else.
10:03I'm in life danger everyday. Look how I look like.
10:05Yeah, but you're doing the wrong thing sir.
10:07No, I don't think it was wrong. I was really careful.
10:09What you think is wrong versus what's actually wrong is two different things.
10:12Yeah, I know. I get it. Like I said to you, you're riding on the wrong side of the road.
10:15You're right. I didn't stick to the rules.
10:16You failed to stop at the stop sign. You then rode across the crossing and then thought you could go
10:21back on the road through the red. You can't do that. Okay? You're putting yourself in danger and others too.
10:27Yeah, I know I didn't stick to the rules but I think I didn't care for you. Yep.
10:31Why are you filming? Because that's what cameras are for. And they're even on the patrol car.
10:37I love the logic of, I don't like the rules so that's why I'm breaking them.
10:41Yeah. And now it's time to watch everyone's favourite show, Highway Patrol Uncut.
10:47Review the footage from our car mate. And I'll show you because I'm happy to. So we're approaching
10:53this intersection here. Right? That's the crossing there. Yeah.
10:57You're actually on the wrong side of the road going past us. You barely use that crossing and you
11:03continue through that red. Correct, yeah. Okay. So what's going to happen today is instead of giving you a
11:08multitude and a handful of tickets, I'm only going to give you the one through going through the red
11:11light there. Okay? I'm not going to give you the one for going on the wrong side of the road.
11:14I'm
11:15not going to give you the one for going on footpath here. But you need to understand there will be
11:18an
11:18infringement notice today. Okay? I understand where you're coming from. But unfortunately,
11:23like you said, our infrastructure is built a little bit different. You just still need to follow our road
11:27rules. He's gone straight through that red light, which is where all traffic needs to stop,
11:32and then continued on his merry way. He got very close to a pedestrian. He was crossing with a
11:37with a walker and whatnot. And he was screaming safety. And unfortunately, I did not see any,
11:43any kind of safe riding today. It's just too much for me to not pull him over.
11:56Just got a fellow driving a golf cart here down the road. Two heads on board,
12:01a couple of golf clubs. Where's the golf course here?
12:06Yeah, I've had to say the things you see. I'm not sure where he's off to, but let's find out.
12:12Officers Lowen Kellis don't know this man,
12:15how far he's driven, or even if he's had a couple at the 19th hole.
12:20But they are duty bound to find out.
12:22Hi, mate. How are you going?
12:23Good. My name's Chris. I'm from Westgate Highway Patrol.
12:25Yep. Where are we off to?
12:27Keringo. Where have we come from?
12:29I'm within one point. I'm within the two kilometres.
12:31Yep. Yep. All right. Fair enough.
12:33You got your driver's licence with you? No.
12:34Don't have a licence with you? No.
12:35Have you got a licence? Yep. Excellent.
12:38But I don't need to give it to you. I don't, you don't need a licence driver.
12:40OK. Out on the road. Trust me, I know the law.
12:45All right. I'm within two kilometres.
12:48Yeah. That's fine. We'll double check it all anyway.
12:52But our job is to check everything, yeah?
12:54The only thing you can do is breath test there.
12:56Can't be able to live. Easy. No worries.
12:58The gentleman seems off.
13:01That's because this isn't the first time he's been pulled over.
13:05We're obviously in the golf buggy driving down the Keringo and we get pulled over,
13:10which is the second time, but you're allowed to drive to the golf course if you're within
13:16two kilometres of your home. And the good thing about it is you don't need a licence,
13:22you don't need to be registered, you don't need anything.
13:24All good, mate. All I want to do.
13:26I'm done. No, no. Look, you're right. I just had to double check it.
13:28This is bordering on harassment now. Oh, you've told her a few times.
13:31This is the third time. So, this is bordering on harassment. This is not you guys. This is
13:36bordering on harassment. Either you guys get educated or I start writing in complaints.
13:40Oh, mate. Look, if you ride in one of these outside that distance, then it isn't a fence.
13:44Oh, of course I know that. And the only way for us to work that out is to stop you
13:47and check.
13:47Well, of course I know that. But the problem with me is, is that you guys highway patrol?
13:51Yeah. Okay. So, last time was highway patrol as well.
13:54Okay. Let me ask you a question. Yeah.
13:56You're, you're driving behind me in the golf cart, right?
13:59Yeah. There's no identifying points and stuff like that. I can't identify you.
14:02I don't know where you come from. I don't know who you are.
14:04So, the only way for me to work out that you are doing the right thing is to stop you.
14:08It is what it is. Yeah.
14:09You, you, you did what you had to do. Yeah.
14:10And I, and I'm, I'm happy with that. Yeah. Thanks, mate.
14:13Everything's worked out the way it needs to today and you're all good to go.
14:15Thanks, guys.
14:16All right, mate. Take care.
14:20Drive was quite right when he said that he doesn't need a license,
14:23uh, doesn't need to be registered because the golf carts are exempt.
14:26So, in this case, he hasn't done anything wrong, but we still need to, to check.
14:31And there's no identifying marks on these cars.
14:33So, the only way for us to do that is to pull him up and have a chat.
14:44Get ready.
14:56Get on the ground.
15:00Cuffs off.
15:03Bendigo, six, five, two, one in custody, no injuries to members, no damage.
15:09Kill the sirens.
15:13Everything's contained. Gloves on, body worn on, so it's cut.
15:16So, the vehicle stopped as a result of the stop sticks.
15:19And this is intentional, high-risk driving, putting our community at risk.
15:24But the driver isn't going quietly.
15:27His tyres are in tatters, but he's threatening more mayhem if he gets the chance.
15:32Put me on the ground.
15:33I'm, I'm, I'm checking your pockets.
15:35You can't check them.
15:37Yeah, stop sticks deployed.
15:38Uh, absolutely effective.
15:40Got it.
15:41Good job.
15:43Deflated all four tyres, which caused him to pull over the side of the road here.
15:47Um, he couldn't travel any further, so.
15:48I guess he's going through.
15:50Uh, it works well.
15:51Take a deep breath.
15:53You're not going anywhere.
15:54You can swear all you want.
15:56I understand you're angry.
15:57No one wants to hurt you or fight you.
15:59F**k.
16:03Let's see if we can pull up next to her here.
16:06Uh, there's P-plates up now.
16:09If the driver in the car ahead of officers Brian and Dupre is who they think,
16:14then she is in big trouble.
16:16All right, so my off-sider here has just checked a registration in, uh,
16:20Pete's Road here in Hoppers Crossing.
16:21And it looks like it's possibly coming up to a learner.
16:24So we're going to pull over and have a look and see who it is.
16:27There's red P-plates up at the moment.
16:28We're not totally sure who it is that's driving, so.
16:32We'll make the intercept and see how we go.
16:35Hello, how are you?
16:36It's good.
16:37My name's Aaron.
16:38I'm from the Westgate Highway Patrol.
16:39Have you got your licence with you, please?
16:40Yeah.
16:42What licence have you got?
16:43I'm an international learner.
16:46International?
16:47Yeah.
16:47Do you have a Victorian licence at all?
16:48Uh, learners, yes.
16:50You can't be using that one though?
16:52Oh.
16:52When you've got a learner's, you can't use your international.
16:56All right.
16:57Have you got a licence?
16:58No.
17:00You don't have a licence?
17:02Okay, so which means that you're driving unaccompanied as a learner.
17:06So when you did your test, your learners,
17:09they would have told you that you can't use your international anymore?
17:14They would have told you that because that's the condition of getting your
17:17learners is that any international driver licence that you hold is no longer valid.
17:22Just grab your key.
17:23Give me a few minutes and I'll come back with you soon.
17:26We've intercepted this vehicle.
17:27It's got a P-plate up.
17:28I'm not quite sure why that's up.
17:29But she's given us an international licence.
17:32Trying to tell us that she can drive in a Fiji licence here.
17:35But unfortunately, when you apply for a learner licence,
17:39that supersedes any international licence that you hold.
17:42So this licence that she holds here now is now invalid in Victoria.
17:48So being a learner, is there any reason why you don't have any L plates up on the car?
17:53064.
17:53Oh, no, it's been, um, we have it inside.
17:57So you need to display that every time that you drive.
18:01Yeah.
18:01But you also need that authorised driver there, which is a fully licensed driver.
18:05OK?
18:06Hi, it's Natasha on the Altona 681.
18:08How are you?
18:09We're finding more and more people who are driving on learners,
18:13if they receive tickets, they really don't care about those tickets.
18:16So what they do care about is having their car impounded.
18:19So I've called our senior and spoke to them in regards to the circumstances
18:24of this young lady driving today.
18:26And the impound has been authorised to take this person's vehicle
18:31to get them off the road.
18:32It is a serious consequence and we really hope that people will learn from it.
18:37It is an escalation from tickets.
18:39By taking the car, people are noticing more and more
18:41that it's more of an imposter on their life.
18:44So by taking their car, hopefully it'll teach them the right way.
19:03Just before 3pm, multiple police have stopped the dangerously speeding driver
19:08of a stolen vehicle only 500 metres from a school in Bendigo.
19:15Thanks to swift use of stop sticks, he's in custody.
19:20Successful hit.
19:21Take a deep breath.
19:23You're not going anywhere.
19:25You can swear all you want.
19:26I understand you're angry.
19:28No one wants to hurt you or fight you.
19:30Well, just stop, bro.
19:31You don't have to drag it like if I pulled over.
19:33But you're not doing what you're told and I'm not going to get spat on or kicked.
19:37I'm not going to spit on you or spit on you like that.
19:39So don't.
19:40I don't know you want enough.
19:41Bro, can you loosen this cuff, bro?
19:43I'll work on that in a minute.
19:44Let me give you a pat down.
19:45Where?
19:45How's the car stolen?
19:47I don't know.
19:48I borrowed it off my mate.
19:49So we've got multiple calls from members of the public in regards to a dangerously driven vehicle.
19:54This vehicle's travelling at 190 kilometres an hour, as estimated by off-duty police members
19:58and members of the public.
20:00It's travelling into the CBD at Bendigo, which is currently a 40k zone at 3 o'clock in the afternoon
20:04on a school day.
20:07It's finally important that we stop the vehicle.
20:09We've used stop sticks to do that.
20:10And as our community expects us to do, we stop people like this from getting into the CBD.
20:15This driver has been arrested, dangerous driving, failing to stop.
20:19He's high speed, and he'll also be drug and alcohol tested.
20:23This vehicle is stolen.
20:25You don't have to say to anything, but anything you say to may report and give an evidence.
20:28Do you understand?
20:29Yep.
20:30Lockie!
20:32We're going to seize it forensically, mate, so it gets tested.
20:35So we don't touch it.
20:36Thanks, man.
20:37So the vehicle gets forensically examined.
20:39Once it's examined, goes back to its owner.
20:41We've established his ID.
20:42He's been given a caution rights.
20:44Has he got any injuries?
20:45Nah, asked him.
20:46Said no.
20:46Righto.
20:48So I can understand that motorists heading into Bendigo this afternoon during peak hour
20:52are going to be a bit disappointed with the traffic conditions.
20:54Stay into only one lane, unfortunately.
20:56If these people only knew what was happening here not half an hour ago,
20:59with a car doing almost 200 kilometres an hour.
21:01I appreciate their patience.
21:03You never know when you come up to these scenes what police have been dealing with.
21:06And I'll say to them, thank you for slowing down when you go past those police cars to 40 k's
21:10and appreciate that sometimes police have got to take some action and close those roads,
21:14but it really is for everybody's safety.
21:24Next time on Highway Patrol.
21:28Hot Under The Collar with Hot Takeaways.
21:31You are not my god.
21:32You're not my father.
21:34How many lies can one man tell?
21:36So you lied to me about your address?
21:38How long you've been here?
21:39About your Victorian driver licence status?
21:42And Australia's finest is going bye-bye.
21:45I've got a situation here, mate.
21:46Can I borrow your trailer?
21:47Come, one two.
