00:00Are young Europeans already losing faith in the pension system?
00:07Pensions might seem like a distant reality to young Europeans,
00:11but many are worried about whether they will actually get one.
00:15This is according to a report by Friends of Europe,
00:17which surveyed 2,000 Europeans aged between 18 and 35 across six countries.
00:24Despite 22% naming pensions as a primary concern,
00:2830% of those surveyed say they only have a limited knowledge of how the system works.
00:33Nearly half of the respondents said they are already paying into a pension scheme,
00:38while only 9% said they do not intend to contribute at all.
00:42More than one in four Danish respondents think their pension
00:46will be somewhat sufficient to support their retirement,
00:49while more than one in three Italians think the opposite.
00:52People rarely like the idea of working longer,
00:55but the expectation of exactly how long they will have to work before retirement
01:00differs across Europe.
01:01Young people in Denmark and Italy expect the longest working lives,
01:05while those in France and Poland are more likely to imagine living earlier.
01:10Most Spanish, Italian, German, Polish and French respondents
01:13claim that the current pension system is broken and needs reform,
01:18while 43% of Danish respondents believe that it's working well,
01:21with no need for a change.
01:23However, young EU citizens are split on what they are willing to sacrifice
01:27for any kind of pension reform.
