00:00Do you remember when $100 at the grocery store could fill a whole cart? Now it barely covers
00:05what you can fit in a brown paper bag? Well, some relief may be in sight on that front.
00:10President Trump signed an executive order on Thursday that aims to roll back rules from the
00:14Biden administration that crack down on refrigerants in an effort to fight global climate
00:19change. How could rules on refrigerants save you money? Well, the key is the money it will
00:23save the stores, which hopefully they can then pass on to you and me. The Post's chief Washington
00:28correspondent Stephen Nelson explained it all shortly after the signing on Thursday.
00:32The new rules rescind a set of Biden-era regulations that are designed to discourage
00:41the use of hydrofluorocarbons in refrigerants. Now, these are used in industrial grocery store
00:49refrigerators. They're used in trucks that transport groceries to the market. President Trump and the
00:56administrator, Lee Zeldin, said that this will save Americans millions of dollars. There were
01:02grocery store representatives on hand, including the CEO of Kroger and regional operators. The
01:10savings, you know, if you hear their telling, it could be even greater. One said that every grocery
01:15store that had to redo its refrigerators could cost up to $1.5 million. So today, the administration
01:21is saying that there's a rollback of administrative regulations and that this will help consumers save
01:28money. But government action is not the only possible wallet savior this week, especially if
01:33you are on the New York Post's home turf. Major grocery chain Stop and Shop says it's slashing prices
01:39at New York and New Jersey stores. Now, this may not sound like a staple if you're outside of the
01:43tri-state
01:43area, but in my neck of the woods, this is a huge deal. The price of bagels and lox are
01:48coming down
01:49as much as 23% below the usual cost. And if you're shopping for your Memorial Day barbecue, Nathan's
01:54Franks have been slashed 28% and buns by 9%. The president of the chain, Roger Wheeler, told the
02:00Post, quote, people are having a hard time stretching their budgets and having to make tough choices.
02:04First and foremost, we're trying to be in tune to where our customers are right now. I will link to
02:09the Post's article about it, which has a much bigger list of the products getting a lot cheaper. So
02:13happy shopping.
