Watch This Space begins a four part retrospective on the LEGO Batman games.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED: February 9th 2026

RUMINATIONS: My plan for 2026 was make two episodes a month. Keeps a good consistency going. This retrospective broke that promise with 4 episodes in one month, which is good and I'm proud I managed it, but maybe I should've parsed it out a bit more.

00:00This year will be a big year for games. We have high profile releases like GTA 5,
00:04Insomniac Wolverine game, 007 First Light and Resident Evil Requiem among others.
00:10One game I'm interested in or paying attention to because I don't have a modern console to play
00:14games on is Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight. A reboot of the Lego Batman series which tells
00:20Bruce Wayne's journey into becoming Batman and taking inspiration from a variety of other Batman
00:24media. This made me think of previous Lego Batman games and so the next couple videos are going to
00:29be a retrospective on previous Lego Batman games and also Lego DC supervillains for good measure.
00:35So from my personal experience I loved Traveller's Tales Lego games growing up. Never really finished
00:40the early games but I enjoyed them and Batman was no exception to my recollection and I remember
00:45it being a bit of a departure from the previous Lego games at that point. Traveller's Tales Lego games
00:50were usually based on IPs and at the time the previous games, Lego Styles and Indiana Jones games,
00:55were comedic recreations of the movies. Lego Batman wasn't. It was the first original story for a Lego
00:59game, albeit simple. It's mostly Batman and Robin having to get their rogues going back into Arkham
01:04Asylum but it also had the ability to play as villains and have them get their own perspective
01:08on the story. It managed to make the game feel longer and also add some variety by playing as
01:12different characters because if not you'd be playing as Batman and Robin for all of the game which
01:15would be a bit boring whereas the other games let you play as a variety of different characters
01:18depending on the level. You also get different suits for the dynamic URL to help solve puzzles and
01:22gain abilities for them as again mostly diversified game players for the majority of the game. You're
01:27playing the same character with similar skill sets so it would be repetitive if they weren't there.
01:31This would become a staple of the rest of Lego Batman games but not Lego DC Supervillains.
01:35Now full disclosure I never finished this game and it's been years since I've played it so my memory
01:39is a bit fuzzy so I can't go into more detail but I remember playing the sequel and finishing it
01:43in
01:43full so next episode we're going to talk about the impactful sequel Lego Batman 2 DC Superheroes.
