00:02At school pick up today, thoughts had already turned to drop off tomorrow.
00:07I'll probably put off what I'm going to do early in the morning and take the kids to school instead
00:13of their parents.
00:14It doesn't change a whole lot for me. I'm staying at home with my youngest child already.
00:18I might even offer them the whole day off if they'd like to do that because it is a bit
00:22of a change of routine,
00:23but pretty much in support of them striking.
00:25The first strike by ACT public school teachers in 15 years.
00:30The two-hour work stoppage will see all public schools keep their doors closed until 10.30 on Friday morning.
00:37Our members' patience has expired. We are putting up with the unacceptable.
00:43There's been mounting frustration between the union and the education directorate
00:47as negotiations on a new enterprise agreement drag on.
00:50The union says the territory government hasn't addressed core concerns around staffing, increasing workloads and class sizes.
00:58It's like negotiating with cardboard cutouts and we have just been stonewalled by this ACT government that is showing that
01:05it doesn't care.
01:06We are continuing to progress on some claims and there's some others that we still need to work through.
01:12So it is moving in the right direction.
01:14Friday's strike is part of the union's first phase of action.
01:18And they say it's highly likely they'll move to a more extensive and disruptive second phase,
01:24which could include full day strikes.
01:27As a daughter of two teachers, I'm very happy for them to strike.
01:31Hopefully something happens as a result of this strike.
01:34Go the teachers!
01:35Short, sharp action for now, which may well expand in the coming weeks.
01:40In the coming weeks.
01:41From the left side.
01:41I'm just going to cover them.
01:41Well, I'm very happy for everyone.
01:41As a daughter of two teachers.
01:41To be honest.
01:41Where that is.
01:42You can hear from the left.
01:43You can hear that.
01:43You can hear from the right side.
