00:02We're here at Devonport where we have just seen another strike action by multiple public
00:08sector unions here in Tasmania. The schools are closed all day here in the northwest of
00:13the state. Tomorrow they'll be closed in Launceston and the surrounding suburbs and on Thursday
00:18in Hobart in the south of the state and at the other public schools around there. As
00:24well as schools we've got health and community services union members taking the day off
00:29as well as CPSU members. They are striking over pay and conditions that they have been
00:35seeking to negotiate for better pay and conditions for months with the government. We have heard
00:41that another offer was put on the table just last night by the government for some public
00:46sector workers but these strike actions are continuing. We're here in Devonport right now.
00:53The strike actions are moving to Burnie later today. It is unclear at this stage what the
00:58response from the government will be but they have previously said that they are quite disappointed
01:03that schools are being closed around the state today because the offer were not put to union
01:08members before the strike action was called. The unions have dismissed that saying the offer
01:13was not good enough and that whatever the government has put on the table these strike actions are
01:19going to go ahead regardless. It is going to impact families all throughout Tasmania for this week
01:25but the unions are confident that families and people who support the schools are supporting
01:32the union members, supporting the hospital workers, supporting everyone who is taking this action
01:38around Tasmania this week.
