00:02Teachers, support workers and members of other unions have gathered here on the lawns of
00:07Parliament House to call for better pay and conditions.
00:11Now this is the third day in a row of rolling teacher strikes across the state.
00:17There was one in the North West on Tuesday, another in the North on Wednesday and today
00:22it's the turn of teachers in the South who are taking 24 hours of industrial action.
00:28And that means schools across this region which includes Hobart are shut today.
00:34Now the government has put forward an offer, it includes a 3% pay rise for each of the next
00:41two years plus 2.75% for the third year.
00:45There are also a number of other incentives and conditions as part of the proposal plus
00:51a boost to pay in the first year.
00:53But the education union says the deal falls well short of what's needed.
00:59What are they going to do when it comes to workload?
01:01And what are they going to do when it comes to violence?
01:04Really when you start using terminology like we're going to spend up to this amount of money,
01:08it's a red flag that they're not going to spend the money at all.
01:11Now the government is standing firm on its offer, it says it's both fair and affordable.
01:17It reflects the shared priorities of teacher workload, staff safety, professional staff support
01:24and a range of operational matters that are just essential to supporting our teachers
01:30and indeed to supporting the outcomes of our students.
01:34Now the education union says the government's proposal is not good enough
01:38and they're warning of further industrial action unless a better deal is put forward.
