JP and BMitch react to another Nationals victory that climbed Washington back to the .500 mark.
Transcript
00:00The Nats, dude, you've got to tip your cap.
00:02They haven't been 500 this late into the season.
00:06They've now played 50 games, and they're even.
00:09Hey, man.
00:10They have bats.
00:1125 and 25.
00:12They have exciting bats that make you want to watch.
00:15The pitching has been subpar, I'm going to be honest.
00:19The bats keep them into it.
00:21And also, the Mets, I just have to say,
00:24White Brown, your team sucks, bro.
00:25But the ultimate thing is,
00:28CJ and Wood, they consistently give you stuff.
00:31But they have a lot of supporting cast
00:33that goes out there and do the same thing.
00:34Totally, dude.
00:35And you've got to give credit to the new organizational
00:38kind of brain trust for changing things up.
00:42And you and I are friends with Mike Rizzo.
00:45I don't know that he was given the tools
00:46he needed to succeed his way,
00:49but these new dudes have a different vision,
00:52and they view things differently.
00:54And right now, it's working, dude.
00:56Changing the lineup all the time.
00:58It's basically Wood and Abrams
01:00and everything else is fungible.
01:02Everything else can get moved around.
01:04They've been doing some stuff.
01:05Really excited.
01:06We're going to have Jacob Young join the program
01:08who hit a jack last night.
01:10Dude, so, Sam, you can help me with the math,
01:13but JY hit one Saturday, Sunday,
01:15got drilled in the ribs Monday,
01:17and then went yard last night.
01:19And the guy that hit him was like his teammate?
01:22Like his college buddy.
01:24See, that happens.
01:25His mic is not on.
01:26That's on TikTok.
01:27I forgot he worked for it on radio.
01:30But college buddies would normally do stuff to you like that.
01:33Because he kind of feels you're not going to rush the mound on him.
01:36Is that three jacks in his last four games?
01:38Yeah, I believe so.
01:39He is on a heater.
01:40So, really excited to have Jacob Young join the show at 1130.
01:43I'm going to ask him,
01:44did you talk to your boy after he hit you?
01:46I'm sure they did.
01:47What was that conversation like?
01:48We'll ask him.
01:49Yo, man, what the hell were you thinking?
01:51We will find out.
01:51I didn't know I was going to hit you.
01:53So, I mean, but seriously,
01:56to take a moment and just credit to the Nationals for being 500
02:01at this stage of the game.
02:02They've played 50 games.
02:03That's a third of the season, roughly.
02:06I mean, they played 162.
02:07You played 50.
02:09I mean, what is actually a third?
02:1158, I guess?
02:1456?
02:15162 they had?
02:16Somewhere around that.
02:17Probably 56.
02:17Yeah, 54.
02:18I don't know.
02:19We're about there, dude.
02:2054.5.
02:21It's Memorial Day weekend, and they're 500.
02:23What was that, Dubby?
02:2554.
02:2654.
02:26See, I just guessed that.
02:28Four games out,
02:31and I don't know what this means for the organization,
02:34and frankly, I don't think they will be adding.
02:38I don't think they're going to be in the,
02:39okay, this is cool.
02:41Let's see if we can build more to this.
02:44But, damn, you kind of wonder if they could or did.
02:49I'm only bringing it up because you kind of have to.
02:51They're four games out of the wild card.
02:54Yeah.
02:54Like, one of these, there's going to be slumps.
02:57There's going to be runs.
02:58But the Nats are playing good baseball above all else.
03:01They have the same record as the Phillies,
03:02who probably have 3-4x to payroll.
03:05They have a way better record than the Mets,
03:08who have 3-4x to payroll.
03:09I imagine that San Francisco Giants have a big payroll.
03:12They're five games better than them.
03:15Like, it's fun, and it's exciting to see,
03:19and it is a reason,
03:20even though I have to text Stallion to find out what channel it is,
03:23there's a reason I'm putting the Nats on every night.
03:27But, you know, it's like the new group that's in there,
03:31they look young as hell, too.
03:32I met the guy over there at the gym.
03:35I basically walked past him.
03:36I didn't think he was the guy.
03:39But they come in now,
03:42and they have a chance to see what they have to work with.
03:47They talked about the same stuff that the Wizards talked about,
03:50like coming in, reassessing, trying to rebuild this thing.
03:54Well, you look and see what you need to hold on to
03:56and what you don't need to hold on to.
03:58Right.
03:59Right now, I see a lot of guys saying,
04:01hey, I want to be a part of this,
04:02because those bats are sure waking the hell up.
04:05Totally, man.
04:05I mean, they're hitting the ball really well,
04:08and it's just, it is fun to watch the Nats,
04:11and that is not a sentence we've been able to say for some time.
04:15I also love, like, does Nunez lead the NL in steals?
04:19I mean, I feel like he is just a machine on the base path.
04:22I mean, yeah, he's an insanely good base runner.
04:25I'm not entirely sure if he leads Major League Baseball or the league in it,
04:29but, like, I mean, he is a clear difference maker when he's out there.
04:33All right, so he is tied, according to Google,
04:37he's tied for the MLB lead in stolen bases.
04:40TJ, good guess.
04:41Yeah, I knew he was up there, dude.
04:43I mean, and he's a really nice young man.
04:45I got to talk to him at the red carpet event.
04:48You and I need to go to one of those games.
04:50Yeah, B's.
04:50B's hook us up.
04:51We like nice seats.
04:52You're basically in the dugout when you sit in those games.
04:54We like nice seats, yeah, yeah.
04:56A couple other games last night.
04:57I did watch some of the hockey.
04:59I was at Papa's house, so it's only one TV, so we couldn't multi-TV it.
05:04Boy, look at that.
05:05You flexing and talking down to Papa.
05:06That's messed up.
05:08Papa, this is what your boy does to you, man.
05:10He just one-up you.
05:12Yeah, I was at his house, just one TV.
05:14Don't have three, four at my house.
05:18But the Knights just were in charge of that game last night.
05:22Yeah.
05:22And I think that was kind of a surprise because the Avalanche had been such a wagon,
05:25but they got out to a big lead early.
05:27Obviously, Colorado couldn't keep up, but the basketball was far more compelling than us.
05:31Hell yeah.
05:32That basketball game was good, bro.
05:34And dude, I hit another bet.
05:36No big deal.
05:36But honestly, White Brian, can you run the numbers?
05:39I think I'm like 11 straight right now.
05:42I'll let you dig through it.
05:43I watched that one start to finish.
05:47I did have a little hiatus, about five to ten minutes around the third.
05:52Eyes closed?
05:53Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:54But then I woke up, and the game was getting so damn good that you know you get a little
05:59energized.
06:00And then I was like wondering.
06:02I was thinking I would not be able to fall back to sleep.
06:04Right.
06:04But once that game ended, I was able to go upstairs, and as the little oral ring told me,
06:09my latency was five minutes.
06:11There you go.
06:12Once I laid down, boom, I was done.
06:13Listen, the star of the show last night was SGA, the NBA League MVP.
06:19He went for 30, was a plus 14 and plus minus.
06:22He went for 30 and nine assists.
06:25What I find remarkable about his 30, in a league that has just become entirely dependent on three-point shooting,
06:31probably to the league's detriment, he didn't hit a three.
06:34He went 0 for three from three and was 50% from the field.
06:38Yeah, but what he does, that little fadeaway he has is deadly.
06:44And the thing about it, he knows how to set people up.
06:46Like when he slowed up and the guy just ran in his back.
06:49But I'm going to tell you, an unsung hero for that team is Caruso.
06:53Oh, 100%.
06:53Caruso comes in the game.
06:55He may not be the tallest.
06:57Maybe that'd be the absolute best.
06:59But there's nobody that hustles more than he does.
07:02Rebounds, steals, batted balls, knocking down threes.
07:06He doesn't give a damn if you're six feet or seven forward.
07:09He will check you.
07:11That kid's the unsung hero.
07:1217 points.
07:13Caruso was three or four from threes.
07:15He was a plus 18 and plus minus, which is, to your point, about the defensive effort and hustle.
07:20He came into the game, and I think he was in the game five seconds.
07:26And Reggie Miller was like, oh, he really came in and announced himself real quick.
07:30Five seconds, knocked down a three.
07:32Dude, I thought they were letting him play last night.
07:35I thought it was pretty physical hoops.
07:37And I think, I honestly think the Thunder kind of got punked in game one a little bit.
07:42And I think they responded and showed, like, hey, man, we're the defending champs.
07:46We'll push back.
07:49Castle, Cassell, whatever.
07:50Vassell.
07:52It's Castle and Vassell, right?
07:53Yeah.
07:54Vassell and Castle.
07:55Both of those dudes.
07:56I mean, Harper might have been knocked out.
07:59Castle, that dunk he had.
08:01Yeah, yeah.
08:02He tried one earlier, too.
08:04He tried one earlier, and he didn't get that one.
08:06But he tried a two-hander early on somebody.
08:11Wasn't it on Chet?
08:12Chet.
08:13Yeah.
08:13He tried it on Chet.
08:14He didn't get that one.
08:15He got the second one on Big Boy.
08:17Hartenstein.
08:18Hartenstein didn't jump, though.
08:19I thought Hartenstein gave them what they needed.
08:22He had a presence.
08:24He leaned on what's called him all day.
08:25Totally, dude.
08:25Yeah.
08:25He went for 10 points and 13 boards, but they needed something in the middle, and I thought
08:32Hartenstein did a much better job of giving them that.
08:34But what impressed me most with SGA last night is there's this – some of it's true,
08:41but I think the narrative has probably outpaced the reality.
08:44But the discussion around SGA and then Brunson to a degree, and certainly I think Harden is
08:51the godfather of this, these good, quick guards that can get into the paint, and they play
08:56this herky-jerky hoops to draw fouls.
08:59SGA last night went for 30 points, controlled the game, didn't hit a three, still was 50%
09:05from the field, which shows you he's getting to the rim, and he only had six free throws.
09:10Yeah.
09:11So it wasn't like he made a living at the line.
09:13He was hitting those turnarounds, like you said, and I just thought the guts and the
09:17toughness he showed in the second half, we hadn't really seen that, and I thought it
09:22was impressive.
