Washington won another game to get to two games above the .500 mark. This team might actually be for real.
Transcript
00:00We got to start with the Nats. The Bats continue to be red hot. James Wood goes yard last night.
00:05The parade worked.
00:06Now has 15 on the year. The Nats are undefeated on days where there's a parade down half street.
00:12Hey, listen man, one thing about it, you can get that little groove going one aspect of the game and
00:19then the rest of it will come along.
00:20And right now, it seems like the Bats are carrying it, man.
00:23Two games over .500. Honestly, though, the pitching's been good.
00:26I know that game got a little dicey late, but the pitching's been really good.
00:32If anybody remembers, Toby might be the only person who remembers, but we are the foremost Mitchell Parker radio show
00:39in town.
00:40He was nails late. Cavalli was good early. Cavalli had seven strikeouts, I think.
00:46Parker had another five. It's an interesting time to be a Nats fan, man.
00:51And I don't know who, what, when is going to happen with trading.
00:54It's funny, I was at NBC yesterday and camera during a commercial break is like, tell me why they would
00:59possibly trade CJ.
01:01And I'm like, it's a fair point, dude. I'm not sure I know that answer.
01:05And the further they get into this thing, the further along it goes, you wonder, maybe they don't.
01:12And I find it hard to believe they'd be buyers considering how they're trying to run everything.
01:17But maybe you have to.
01:20Like, they play this afternoon, another one in Cleveland.
01:23If they get that series sweep, this weekend's series against the Padres, one, I hope it's packed.
01:30I hope it's absolutely juiced at the ballpark.
01:33The weather's supposed to be incredible.
01:35Plus, you got day games.
01:36Saturday is a 4 o'clock.
01:38Sunday's a 1.30.
01:39Like, take the kids.
01:40Take the family.
01:41I hope those games are packed.
01:43If they get the sweep here, they'll be coming off two straight series wins.
01:46I guess three straight series wins, right?
01:48Yeah.
01:48I guess they split with the Mets.
01:52It's fun and it's exciting.
01:54And I think everybody's kind of turning around and paying attention.
01:58You know what I mean?
01:58Yeah.
01:59Right now, we're not booking hotels in October or anything.
02:03But you're like, wait, wait, wait.
02:04What's going on in Nattstown?
02:06This is kind of exciting.
02:07Well, that's what I was asking about yesterday, Dave, about when you have bats like they're playing.
02:16It makes a pitcher basically settle down.
02:19He doesn't have to force.
02:20He doesn't have to be perfect.
02:21And when you don't have to be perfect, great things happen for you.
02:23So, you know, you can calm down and do the things you've been taught and what you've been working on
02:28instead of having to use your best stuff on every pitch.
02:31If that happens, you're going to be in trouble.
02:33Point blank.
02:34Yeah, when you know the bats are there, that's got to provide the pitchers some level of confidence.
02:40You know what I mean?
02:42And, like, I also, I watched last night and I thought Franson did a really good job of explaining
02:49what a good job K-Bear Ruiz was doing framing pitches.
02:54Especially, like, you could tell the Cleveland hitters were getting really pissed
02:58because they thought a number of strikes that got called were low.
03:04And Frenchie pointed out, he's like, no, man, it's because Ruiz is framing that pitch so well.
03:09And then what I liked and what baseball has now is the ability to go to the computer.
03:14And then you could tell for sure if it's a ball or strike.
03:17Ruiz was right.
03:18The ump was right.
03:19Like, those balls hit the bottom of the zone.
03:20They were strikes.
03:21That's all that matters.
03:22It was, like, I don't know that the red-hot hitting will be able to continue.
03:29But at the same time, I don't know, like, the pitching was awful.
03:33And now the pitching's pretty good.
03:35So, if they can, maybe they don't get too medium with both of those things.
03:40But it's an exciting time to watch that baseball.
03:44It is.
03:44It is.
03:45You know, we start off this season not knowing what was going to happen.
03:47But they brought in all the new analytical mindsets.
03:51But things seem to be working.
03:53You know, and we understand they're through a third of the season.
03:57This thing is a long, long haul.
03:59It's a marathon.
04:00And this has to continue.
04:02And if they can keep it up like this, hell, something special.
04:08And this year.
04:09Or they could just be ahead of playing.
04:11Say it like that.
04:13Totally.
04:14Nobody's expecting the crazy stuff.
04:16Right.
04:17Like, this year's just about being fun.
04:19And it's funny, while we're talking about, you know, things working and not working,
04:23clearly we're having a bit of technical trouble.
04:25So, if anybody's trying to watch us on Monumental, like, we're working on it.
04:30Yeah.
04:31We're certainly working on it.
04:33I think maybe I'm going to connect here in a moment.
04:37We'll see.
04:37I'm texting with Huey.
04:39My man Stallion, as always, is just a ton of help.
04:42But we're going to figure it out.
04:43We are in Ashburn, BigBear.ai Performance Center.
04:48And OTAs are coming.
04:50It's going to be a lot of fun.
04:53What, if anything, are you most interested to see during this phase?
04:58I just want to see how the guys move.
05:01You know, they've already given guys playbooks and things like that.
05:04And when guys get out on the field, I just want to see how fast you're doing things.
05:08Because that tells me guys have been studying.
05:10They've learned what they need to do.
05:12And they're not thinking out there.
05:13They're just reacting.
05:14But if you get to that point, that's all I care about.
05:16But do you even expect that at this point?
05:18I don't.
05:18I do.
05:19They've got two new systems coming in.
05:20Don't make a difference to me.
05:22Because it's not about the new systems.
05:24It's about how quick are people picking up and holding on to what they're seeing.
05:29You know, football is football.
05:31The terminology is different.
05:32But once you realize the terminology, you can just go out there and play ball.
05:36But if you're out there in the middle of stuff and you're looking in the sky like,
05:40what the hell, like Heath Shuler used to do in a huddle,
05:43then you know the person doesn't know what they're doing.
05:46That's all I'm looking for.
05:48Well, certainly.
05:48I'll scoot in here for the folks on the YouTube stream.
05:51Me and Beal act like we're friends to try to get things working here.
05:55We're having a –
05:55Well, you're not stinking.
05:56You all right?
05:57No, man.
05:57I'm fresh out of the shower.
05:58I got a Collars & Co. dress polo on today, man.
06:00There you go.
06:00There you go.
06:01Looking fresh.
06:02Fresh as a daisy.
06:03You can also tell the difference that when I roll in here,
06:05I make sure to wear my credential.
06:07B, Mitch, not so worried about it.
06:09My credential is my face.
06:10Yeah.
06:12I mean, at this point, I can – like, I just try to do what is appropriate
06:18and ask of the media.
06:20Security guard says – like, we see the same guys a lot of times,
06:24and Brian was like 10 feet ahead of me because I was carrying everything
06:28and B didn't offer to carry anything.
06:30I didn't know you had a lot.
06:31You didn't know I had all of this?
06:33No.
06:34I mean, you had one or two bags.
06:36I had two bags.
06:37I had the Comrex.
06:39And a computer bag.
06:40You were carrying your lunch.
06:41I was carrying my big bag and my lunch bag.
06:45So B's in front of me walking through the gate,
06:47and the security guard's like, oh, what do you know?
06:49Brian Mitchell leading the way and JP in the rear.
06:52And I'm just like, thanks, dog.
06:53We're going to get this all up and working.
06:56Yeah, we're going to work it out.
06:58Now, attendance is always an issue at these OTAs.
07:00I can't stress enough.
07:02This is voluntary.
07:04Should Laramie Tunsil not be here,
07:05it's worth pointing out that he works out year-round with his own trainer.
07:09I believe it's in Tuscaloosa.
07:11And if he's not here, let's not make a big deal of it
07:13because he signed a deal already.
07:15Right.
07:16So it's all good.
07:19By far, the most important attendance for this fan base,
07:25the most important OTA attendee.
07:28Who that?
07:29You want to guess?
07:31Sonny Stiles?
07:31No, he'll be here.
07:32He's a rookie.
07:34Jaden?
07:35No.
07:35Who else?
07:36Because all those guys are going to be here.
07:39It's not here.
07:41It's not here?
07:42No.
07:43Why not?
07:44It's in San Francisco.
07:45To my Brandon?
07:46I'm so tired of Ayuk.
07:48Oh, man.
07:48If he doesn't show up and cause trouble in San Fran,
07:52they're not going to release him because they can just hold him contract hostage.
07:55When you ask me questions about stuff, I talk about people that's on the team.
07:59I don't talk about people that people are wishing for,
08:02and half of them don't know why they're wishing for them.
08:04If he doesn't show up to Niners OTAs,
08:06then none of us are allowed to talk about it until the next time,
08:09which would be veteran minicamp.
08:11Well, I will go with that.
08:12I'm cool with it.
08:12No.
08:12No.
08:13No.
