00:00I'm not part of the world that I design, so I think I can do it in a pretty
00:03objective way. That's the key to the success I've had. So I think, how would
00:08America or the world want to see this? How would they actually see themselves in
00:12this world in a realistic way that's slightly romanticized?
00:21I tell people, if you notice the work I do, I did it wrong. The producers and
00:26the designer really want this to look like these are real guys working in the
00:30field. The Montana sun fades their clothes and their outside of the elements.
00:35It can't look fresh. It can't look like a soap opera.
00:39It's kind of a collaboration with all of us about like how this character is
00:44gonna start and then we need a base level and then we need to be able to
00:47evolve them through this series. I talked to the Cowboys and I talked to the people
00:53that live that life. I really studied them and then I take the pieces which I
00:58think would resonate with a bigger population and I kind of incorporate
01:03that. What I do is I put life into clothing. There's so much more work
01:09involved in it before you can see it on camera. You want it to look genuine because
01:13it helps the actor understand who the character is by the costume and how it fits.
01:17Well this is Casey Dutton. He's iconic. He wears a certain look. The hat we had
01:23accumulated dirt and dust and things from the years so I had to match the color of
01:27the dirt and the dust and make it permanent so you don't just brush this off.
01:32I just want to make it look cool and I want to make people that watch it want to be
01:36the
01:36people that they're watching. I tend to veer towards the earthy and the dark and the
01:41dusty and that's why I'm just drawn to this Yellowstone martial world.
