00:01There was a lot of untapped things about Casey's world
00:05that we never really got to explore in Yellowstone.
00:08There was a lot to look back into and a lot that he can use now moving forward.
00:14This show has really big ambitions.
00:17You know, coming from the Yellowstone universe, you know, there's a lot to live up to.
00:20Inheriting a character in a universe, it was really important to me to find people
00:23who really had institutional knowledge of Yellowstone and how that show worked.
00:27Those were the first people that we were looking for just who had that insider view of how to make
00:31a show like this.
00:32Just a wellness check. It's more like a no man left behind kind of thing.
00:36I really get particular with each character specifically by themselves
00:41and then I put boards together and I then work with the actor.
00:45So it's kind of a collaboration with all of us about like how this character is going to start
00:50and then we need to be able to evolve them through the series.
00:55Welcome to the U.S. Martians.
00:57My job and what we do in costumes is standard line is I mess clothes up but just enough.
01:04You want it to look genuine because the actor, it helps them understand who the character is.
01:08The costume, how it works, how it drapes. There's a life in the clothes.
01:12We started in 2017 so I've been playing Casey for eight years.
01:17I remember before every season I would get sort of nervous about whether I'd be able to find it again.
01:21He sort of speaks a little differently than I do but at this point it's pretty easy to lock back
01:26in.
01:26Try to keep up.
01:28Casey is wearing the same hat, boots, jeans. I made him some shirts.
01:32Well this is Casey Dutton. He's like iconic. He wears a certain look.
01:38The hat we had was the original from Yellowstone and I had to match all the aging that he did
01:43on it inside and out.
01:45You picked town of the day to leave the ranch.
01:48Once he gets more into the military world, yes we got tack boots, we got some different shirts, we got
01:53some jackets, military jackets.
01:55The thing that appealed to me most about Casey was that this is a character where there's so much more
01:59to explore.
02:00Particularly now that he's put the Yellowstone behind him.
02:02He left one battlefield as a seal for another which you know the Dutton life was pretty chaotic.
02:07So this sort of post Yellowstone life for him where he really has to figure out what he wants to
02:12be, who he wants to be and what he wants to do.
02:15The thing I was most excited about exploring this sort of new world for him was bringing up that old
02:20skill set.
02:21Clearly he was very good at something that we didn't get to see him do a lot.
02:25He says in this show I'm good at two things. One of those things is cowboying and the other one
02:29is being a warrior.
02:30You're not a killer Casey, you're a protector.
02:33The only question that was asked in the pitch was can you make this show?
02:36And I of course said yes but in the back of my head I knew it would take only a
02:41very specific group of people who knew how to make a show like this.
02:43Because it's easy for me and the writers to come up with big ideas.
02:46You need a team around you to execute them and that's what we have here.
02:49I'm just here to do my job.
02:51I remember I would meet fans of the original show all the time and they would say like we just
02:55want to see Casey go off and sort of be Navy Seal Casey for a while and they'll get to
03:00see that here.
03:00What is the jersey level?
03:03What the cheering and what is the training using is the focus of theGet galaxy?
03:05At least some sort of전 señora persevered, was recognized or워서 Knight?
