00:02A newly released document shows that tax returns filed by Trump, his family, the Trump Organization,
00:09and related affiliates are shielded from IRS enforcement actions under a $1.8 billion
00:15Justice Department settlement, according to CNBC. The Justice Department settlement,
00:21signed by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, bars the federal government from pursuing
00:26any and all claims the IRS could have raised on returns, filed before the settlement's
00:31effective date. The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
00:36The settlement resolved a $10 billion lawsuit over leaked Trump-related tax filings.
00:42Democratic members of Congress have called the settlement a slush fund for Trump allies,
00:47including defendants convicted for their roles in the January 6th, 2021, Capitol riot.
