00:02Treasury Secretary Scott Besson told the Senate Finance Committee hearing Wednesday that he is
00:05performing the duties of IRS commissioner while insisting he does not hold the title of acting
00:09commissioner, according to CNBC. The IRS posted on its website on March 13th that Besson's acting
00:14term had expired, but that he retains authority over vacant treasury offices. Besson told Senator
00:18Catherine Cortez-Mass that his acting term had expired, but that IRS commissioner duties flow
00:22up to him as treasury secretary when the position is vacant. When pressed further, Besson rejected
00:25the acting commissioner label, but acknowledged he is performing the duties of the commissioner.
00:28She also asked whether roughly 400,000 taxpayers, whose information was leaked by former IRS
00:32contractor Charles Littlejohn, would receive the same immunity Trump and his family received under
00:35a $1.8 billion settlement. Besson declined to answer directly, saying treasury is represented
00:39by the Justice Department and that ongoing litigation limits what he can disclose.
