00:00Liverpool's played host to Gifgaf's first broadband boss academy, an event helping people turn digital side hustles into real income.
00:08Nearly one in five UK adults now earns money online, generating more than £78 billion a year and contributing £15
00:16billion to the wider UK economy.
00:19It's been absolutely amazing today. I've learnt so much from speakers.
00:23I'm a photographer and I would like to take my business more social.
00:28I'd like to put my photos online, but also to be a presence as well.
00:33So I just wanted some tips on how to get started.
00:37My favourite piece of advice was you're staying like consistent and trying to not to give up, you know, because
00:45that's really helpful.
00:46You think that you're done and you're, you know, starting to think negative.
00:51But they said like to just put yourself out there and don't give up.
00:56And even if you do bad videos, like post them and just like see.
01:00The live experience brought creators and business founders together to share practical advice on building online careers.
01:07So three things that you should think about is putting the hours in, making sure that you collaborate.
01:12So think about collaborating with different people because you can both use each other's communities to grow and make sure
01:18that you post on different social media platforms.
01:20Don't just stick to one.
01:21So if someone's starting an online business and they haven't yet, what I would say to them is that you
01:25just have to start because you never know what's going to happen with it.
01:28I didn't think that when I started making my first sweatshirts that I would be here today.
01:32So you just have to give things a go.
01:34I think the hardest point when it comes to starting as a contract creator is clicking that button to go
01:39live.
01:39People always ask me, oh, what's the best way to do it?
01:42Just start.
01:42So it all started when I rescued my sausage dog, Lola.
01:46So I got her and like a lot of dog parents just became totally obsessed by her.
01:50I got myself an iPad and I was just drawing her all the time.
01:53And I decided that I wanted to try and turn those drawings into things I could wear on my clothes
01:57and show everybody how cute she was.
02:00Speakers included DJ AG, streamer, pie face and entrepreneur Lucy Bowes, who built successful brands using digital platforms.
02:08Well, I think when I was at McDonald's, it was I was always trying to entertain people.
02:12So going from that to streaming was a bit of an interesting path, should we say, but I ended up
02:18doing Big Brother.
02:18So when I come out of that, it gives me a little bit of a sort of platform and encouragement
02:22to just say, you know what, just go for it, give it a go.
02:25And I think that's very important when you're stepping straight into something new.
02:29So when we first started, our setup was literally zero.
02:32We had absolutely nothing.
02:34We had just a kitchen table.
02:35We had to get an embroidery machine on finance.
02:37And we didn't even know where we were going to get the sweatshirts from.
02:40I started my online career thanks to my son and my daughter, who recommended that I go live.
02:47I literally was in my kitchen, just DJing, trying to build up an online community, stayed consistent.
02:53And, you know, the rest is history.
02:55I brought up a fantastic business and I'm here to share with everyone else.
02:58I brought up a lot of things.
