00:00So we right now is the perfect time to check if you're in credit. We're talking about people on
00:04monthly direct debits. That's where the costs are spread across the year, because obviously we use
00:09more in winter, less in summer. So you can build up cash in summer to help you pay in winter.
00:13It's
00:13a great idea, good concept, but too often it is badly executed and that's what causes the problems.
00:20So step one, you want to make sure it's got your latest usage information. It's got a working smart
00:24meter, great. Otherwise give it a meter reading a week or two before you do this so it can get
00:28the
00:29latest calculation. It's also worth, if you're not sure, going online to using a it's my direct
00:34debit correct calculator to see that you're not over or underpaying because you don't want to be.
00:38Step two is you want to check how much credit you're in. They are sitting on three billion pounds
00:45of our money. Much of it should be in our pockets. So you want to check how much credit you're
00:52in right
00:53now because we're at one extreme end of the cycle. My rough rule of thumb, because prices are going up,
00:59if you have more than a month and a half's worth of direct debits in credit right now I would
01:03want
01:03it back. So you're paying 200 pounds a month, you've got 300 pounds of credit, that's fine.
01:08500 pounds, I'd want 200 quid back because I think that's a little bit too much. So if you are
01:12in too
01:13much credit, get in touch with your supplier, web chat, call them up, ask them why. They must give
01:18you a refund or clearly explain why not. If they refuse to give you a refund, you don't think it's
01:22justified. You can go to the Energy Ombudsman.
