00:00A day after being instructed by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah,
00:04former DAP leader Ronnie Liu visited Dataran Selangor in Shah Alam
00:08to re-read and reflect on the Rukunegara.
00:12The former DAP leader said revisiting the national principles moved him
00:16and made him realise that the Rukunegara was more than just a set of lines
00:21Malaysians memorised in school.
00:24Instead, he said it represented the nation's collective wisdom
00:28born out of the painful lessons of the May 13 tragedy
00:32to prevent the recurrence of racial conflict, social division and extremist politics.
00:38In a Facebook post today, he said that
00:40in an era where politics is becoming increasingly emotional
00:44and society more vulnerable to extreme polarisation,
00:47people are beginning to truly appreciate the death, wisdom
00:51and enduring value of the Rukunegara.
00:54Yesterday, Sultan Sharafuddin advised Liu,
00:57a former Selangor executive counsellor
00:59and Seri Kembangan Assemblyman Wong Siu Kyi
01:02to visit Dataran Selangor at least once a week
01:05to better understand and appreciate the principles of the Rukunegara.
01:09The statement came amid controversy surrounding Wong and Liu's response
01:14to the Sultan's call for a complete end to pick farming in the state.
01:19I'm Injaria, FMT.
