00:00The Selangor government has cancelled its plans to centralise the state's pig farming industry in Bukit Tagar, Hulu, Selangor,
00:08following advice from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
00:11Menteri Besar Amiruddin Shahri said the decision was made by the Selangor State Executive Council last week
00:17after State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee Chairman Izam Hashim reported strong opposition to the project.
00:23He was quoted by Berita Harian as saying that even before the Prime Minister advised the cancellation of the project,
00:31the State Executive Council had already instructed them to look for an alternative site due to strong opposition to Bukit Tagar.
00:39Earlier this month, Selangor ruler Sultan Sharifuddin Idris Shah said he disagreed with the state government's plans
00:45to centralise its pig farming industry in Bukit Tagar.
00:48While he acknowledged the need for the small-scale controlled farming of pigs to meet the needs of non-Muslims in Selangor,
00:56he said large-scale farming was unnecessary and insensitive,
01:00given the fact that Muslims make up the majority of the state's population.
